Re: Paper Mario Producer Says It's No Longer Possible To Modify Mario Characters

KingBowser86

Yeah, this was making the rounds for Sticker Star, too. In a way? I get it. TTYD and SPM introduced a mafia, heaven and hell, all kinds of things, good and bad. Sonic levels of edge, frankly, and I'm sort of thankful for the rule.
But it's equally poor show to restrict the game's design so hard that you suck all of the intrigue out of it. And hypocritical given the Mario and Luigi series, which is the reason I wanna know what company politics are really behind that rule.
Right or wrong, I don't believe Miyamoto for one second when he tries to say that he's not a table-flipper or never detested DKC/hated Rosalina. He's just trying to keep Mario/LoZ's parent company and production in a Disney-esque positive light.

@zocker-hias What I'm hearing is "Waaah, I think it's bad because it's old." I don't mind new mechanics and was initially interested in something new, but the puzzle concept was already monotonous by the end of the Treehouse stream.

This, despite other genres and concepts being recycled (NSMB, FF, Sonic, Megaman, Bloodstained/Castlevania, take your pick) and/or gameplay mechanics not being created in a void (see: Ubisoft open world/BotW).

As for those wondering why Nintendo's averse to using traditional mechanics, we already got that answer in an interview (previous NL article, too) where they're (stupidly) leaving that to the M&L series. Which, may as well be dead, now.

I mean, at least it's not stickers? And the weapons/AoE planning is a marginally-better version of what's essentially Badges. Which, to be fair, if you didn't happen to equip the right Badge, was almost as bad for you as not having the right sticker (particularly if you weren't into battling all the time). PM1 was better about this than TTYD because it was clear that you used the Badge that you got for solving the area's hardest puzzle. And, that's perfectly acceptable!

But again, this "halfway" nonsense is just not enough. If I wanted to play a puzzle game, I'd play a puzzle game. Not to mention all of the other forced things (Toads) that COULD be good but just draw immediate apprehension after the past missteps.

Re: Curse Of The Sea Rats Smashes Its Kickstarter Campaign, Will Sail Onto Switch In 2021

KingBowser86

I appreciate that the concept is sound — very much influenced by Disney Afternoons with maybe a hint of the character interactions of Bluth works, hopefully.
Does seem like the backgrounds could use some touch-up. And the walk/run cycles seem off. Or was it collision detection? Or both? It was hard to give the trailer my full mental focus seeing as it's a Kickstarter and those have way past run their course. Will be looking for reviews.

Re: Review: Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 - Another Faithful Tribute To The Classic 2D Castlevanias

KingBowser86

So I watched portions of a Let's Play, and watched as the character jumped and didn't land on stairs below, but fell through and to their death. That's gonna be a big "Nope" if the game pulls tedious and arbitrary garbage like that.

That said, the enemies and attacks and such looked reasonable, so long as you play smart. Oh and for those wondering, Hachi jumps out of the armor and to safety on the death animation, so the corgi's all good!

Re: Feature: 8 Games That Could Really Benefit From A Modern Remake On Switch

KingBowser86

Really, really wanted a Luigi/Daisy and Sarasaland segment in Odyssey. I feel like BotW is a 3D execution of how LoZ2 tried to expand the gameplay's scope, anyway.

I'd like to see Tails' Adventure and Megaman Battle Network get some sequels on the Switch. The latter would be an excellent fit for the console — shoring up where Sword/Shield fell short.

I'm still a bit giddy that I no longer have to say "Sure would be nice if we could get more Pokémon Snap!", because it's happening!

Re: Talking Point: What Do Abuse Scandals Say About The Smash Bros. Community, And Its Future?

KingBowser86

Let's rewind.
I was one of what would turn out to be a minority of 4chan /v/ posters (and commenters on other sites and forums) that were vehemently against topics and threads that gave public celebrity to eSports players or competitive YouTubers and streamers. What was the reason for the reluctance?

THIS. Tragedies like this, right here. Tragedies that we had already seen in spheres like politics, sports, and even music — and history was ripe to repeat itself.

It is fine to give earned praise people's achievements that resulted from their dedication for a while.
It is NOT good to place flawed humans on pedestals on an ongoing basis, thereby allowing them the privilege of a turned blind eye.

I'll be praying for all of the victims and their loved ones.

Re: Nintendo's Mobile Business Is Here To Stay

KingBowser86

Hypothetical:
Why wouldn't Nintendo put an ad-supported free/subscription for no-ads Virtual Console on mobile?

I say Virtual Console, because I'm almost certain that they can't get Switch games running on a phone (barring making their own phone). This way, the software being provided is made up of meaty games, and that (should) give them the internal confidence to channel that revenue stream.

"Well, ad revenue on games is dying."
This is Nintendo we're talking about, but okay, go on.
"And since it's dying, only gambling provides any revenue."
Then they'd just continue making a scant few mobile games as is.

Re: Splatoon 2 Version 5.2.2 Update Patch Notes

KingBowser86

@Snatcher Likewise, I couldn't stay in the game. Salmon Run, now that was a different story. Maybe Splatoon 3 should take up factions (via ink colors?) and/or an objectives-based approach (think online teams but with "Achievements") to multiplayer (e.g. World of Warships).
