It's always risky pointing out typos in other people's work — goodness knows enough tiny errors slip through this writer's net. Still, typos tend to stick out like a sore thumb when you find one some place unexpected. The internet is full of them, but they really catch your eye when you're away from your PC or phone; at an ATM, for example, or painted on a road sign. Or popping up on your Switch's menu screen.
We spotted one such minor mistake buried in Switch's menus recently, and it jumped out at us because... well, Nintendo are usually super hot on this sort of thing. We don't remember seeing a typo on one of their console's menus ever before. It's a tiny thing and we assumed it would disappear with the following update, anyway. No biggy.
Well, Switch firmware update 11.0.1 dropped today and corrected a host of small problems... but that pesky typo is still there! (Note. It's been pointed out by readers ninten90 and HADAA that the American English versions of the menu below feature entirely different text to our European version, so it appears that Nintendo of Europe — not NoA — may have slipped up here!)
But where!? we hear you cry. Well, we only caught it while putting together our guide explaining how to transfer screenshots and videos from Switch to a smartphone, PC or Mac (a new feature that debuted at the beginning of December with update 11.0.0). Selecting any image and choosing 'Send to Smart Device' brings up the option to 'Send Individually' or 'Send Multiple'...
At least that's what it should say. Instead the 'L' and the 'T' have switched places to read 'Send Mutliple':
In fact, Nintendo might have just been having an 'off' week because our friends over at Switch Weekly spotted another spelling mistake on a Switch promo recently. How many times have we all typed 'Nintnedo' by mistake?
Pot, kettle, black? No arguments there. Maybe we've just been sending too many gorgeous Breath of the Wild images to our PC's Wallpaper folder and we've seen 'Mutliple' so much it's burned into our minds. It's far better Nintendo concentrates on fixing the important stuff with firmware updates, yet for some reason we're fixated on this most insignificant of errors!
We totally understand, Nintendo. It's been a very long year.
Do you get unreasonably wound up over typos? Can you remember seeing anything like this on any other console? Let us know below, and be gentle — it happens to the best of us!

Nintendo is a big company so there is bound to have mistakes
Is anyone else sick of things like this? I turn on my Switch because I want to relax with a game, not to have other games marketed at me. If I wanted to know what games are cooming out, I'll look it up on the internet.
This is the worst thing Nintendo has done in recent memory.
@Agriculture that doesn't make any sense in the context of this article
I really think the overall quality of Nintendo’s translations on the Switch have been not very good. In Super Mario Maker 2 you have the option to “Start Over” or “Let’s Start Over”. There’s also only one game mode under “Extra Game Modes” (plural).
@EngineerMario,
Mutliple mistakes.
Typos don't matter to me also I haven't really even used the feature so oh well, if it was in a game though... well that'd be different, Nintnedo has probably made mutliple mistakes like this that we've just never noticed so I think it's fine
Nintnedo sounds like a bootleg
Speaking of typos, NL, review Selfy Collection you cowards.
I really hope this update fixes my lost audio issue I had with the last update
Everyone makes mistakes. For instance, nintendo shut down big house
@SorridoSnake don't you know the Nintnedo Smitch? xD
Now that's funny
I didn't view any of that but l wish l did
@peachflavored You mean the Nanica Smitch?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usC4W1tu28M
@FroZtedFlakerZz The article has a screenshot of Nintendo advertising to you through its console. Seems 100% relevant, actually.
@peachflavored ahh yes, how could I forget the Smitch with launch titles such as “Bread of the Wild” and “1, 2, 3, Smitch”
They’re editting has never been worser.
Well now I won't be able to unsee that, guess I'm not sending any screenshots until the next update.
Quality journalism right here. It's edgy, reporting the top issues, and especially things that people care about.
We need more of this kind of journalism.
That seals the deal. I am no longer an Nintendo fan. I officially will not be purchasing my next Nintendo console nor will I watch any directs ever again. Nintendo is officially the worst company in history.
this is a joke
@TG16_IS_BAE That's not the startup screen though.
You can ignore the news section if you want.
@Friendly The screenshot is modified, but there is no way to ignore the side-tab that always pops up when you pick up the console. You should be able to hide it in its entirety.
I see Wario's big pearly grin and thought that maybe a new Wario game had been announced. Then I read the headline and was disappointed...
New Wario Land please.
Also yes, Nintnedo's spelling as of late has been atrocious. On mutliple occasions too.
I'm always just waiting for NL to slip with spelling 😠😠 haha, I'm kidding 😉😉🤪. It happens to the best of us.
I think Nintendo workplace needs more Google Analytics to
spysupervise their spelling.https://youtu.be/no_elVGGgW8
@FroZtedFlakerZz It says "Nintendo Switch News on your device"
Next update will resolve this issue
"We hope you understand" _ Nintendo
@dartmonkey Are you sure that this is NOA's doing? We typically get the same stuff in Canada, and I distinctly remembered seeing "Send a Batch" in version 11.0.
Checking version 11.0.1 right now shows the same thing. Specifically, I see:
-Send to Smartphone (instead of "Smart Device")
-Only This One (instead of "Send Individually")
-Send a Batch (instead of "Send Mutliple")
It hardly matters, but I am curious to know which regions are actually affected by this, and would be surprised to find that Canada is getting a different "English" than America. Indeed, a quick check of "System" under "System Settings" shows "Colors" without a 'u' (in the option: "Change Display Colors"), so I am pretty sure that they are not tailoring a specific version of English for us.
@dartmonkey @ninten90
The "mutliple" typo is actually NOE's doing, not NOA. If your console region is set to Europe, you see that typo. If set to The Americas, we see what ninten90 posted (different wordings and no typos).
@HADAA Thanks for checking!
@ninten90 @HADAA Interesting! Thanks, I'll add that to the article.
@Bolt90 It's marked as a "random" which means it's a piece of fun, not hard-hitting journalism.
This is...! I can't believe that...! I mean...!
Yeah, I don't care.
@Damo For a second I thought you grew horns. The trees/mountains in the background and your hair are in matching shades in your b&w icon
@TG16_IS_BAE "...there is no way to ignore the side-tab that always pops up when you pick up the console."
Really? I've become so accustomed to ignoring it that I had almost forgotten that it even exists until reading complaints about it in this thread.
Some secret message from Ninny...
@FroZtedFlakerZz 😂😂 I was re-reading the article because I thought I missed something after reading that comment
Mistakes happen! Plenty of novels out that have misspelled words too!
@Solomon_Rambling they’re?
@Mountain_Man Cool blog post
Is grammer and spelling important?
No weigh!
Absilootly, Yes.
I'm a looser with no onion.
That was from a poll on one of the allegro sites I use to program C++.
Too err is humin
Honestly, I'm surprised they haven't had more. Nintendo's very sharp about English spelling.
All your base are belong to us
Increase stubility
I would've noticed something like that almost immediately; it would have triggered my OCD. XD Thankfully this seems exclusive to NoE for now, not NoA.
Biggest mistake was not adding folder
'Tis better to give mutliples than to receive.
See what happens when you don't release a Stable update?
Seplilng deons't mtater. As lnog as all the lttres are inlcdued, and the fsirt and lsat lteters are cocrert, you can raed waht is wirtetn. Aslo, it's ralely hrad to wirte tihs way.
@Friendly
Yes. They’re grammar are awful. Their is only one way to right correct.
I did notice these errors. It did get a little chuckle out of me. I don't know if it's up there with a winner is you, the truck have started to move, and I am error, but it's noteworthy all the same.
Nintendo being too busy spending money issuing petty C&Ds and copyright strikes on not-for-profit fan projects and events, and doing terrible PR around it, they lost their focus on what's important: grammar.
Satoru Iwata wouldn't be pleased with how Corporate Nintendo is acting right now.
@rjejr Hey, man. I honestly had no idea that you had started a second job as text editor at Nintendo...
@Mountain_Man Same here. I've never even tried to access the pop-up things, I press A and away the whole screen goes. Kind of like every load screen on every media device since the VCR.
@ThanosReXXX Man, I knew I should have applied for a copyright for that, or a trademark. It's really the only way I type Nintnedo. 😂
True story - I saw the article before but didn't bother reading it b/c I assumed it was a "there or they're" sort of thing, didn't think they'd misspell their own name. 🤣 Thanks for the heads up. 👍
PS - To start a 2nd job I'd need a 1st job. 18 years and counting.😎
It drives me nuts that Double Dragon 4 is “Double Dragon4” on my Switch.
Prease understind.
@rjejr Haha, yeah, that's true. Then again: being a parent is also kind of a full-time job, so you actually DO have one already.
@Agriculture Wait, what? This has nothing to do with the article...
@ThanosReXXX Thanks, appreciate it, even w/ the smirky face. 😁
The best thing about this pandemic is people not constantly asking me when I'm going to get a job. I mean if I haven't gotten 1 by now, am I really going to be looking during a pandemic?
You hanging in ok over there? Seems better than over here, at least you aren't on the verge of living in an autocratic fascist dictatorship banana republic, but I know the EU as a whole isn't healthy. Mostly we just get Angela Merkel news over here, I think the US media likes promoting the woman in charge. Not the Queen, she ain't in charge of jack.
Do you do Boxing Day over there? No matter where I may live I could never imagine making that a thing in my household. I mean yeah we have BF, but we don't pretend it's a holiday, it's just a shark infested psychotic break feeding frenzy.
@Solomon_Rambling I think editing in general is becoming a lost art. I see more typos in the average news article than I did throughout school.
@Omars_Comin_Yo the article is about a typo, and the typo was in a sentence about getting marketed new games on your console.
@rjejr Haha, thanks. I've reserved the same comment without smirkey face for moms. Bit more partial to women, you see...
Although the smirkey face was actually meant as the all-knowing blinking eye, as in a "guys among guy's" thing. In real life, I'd have replaced it with a conspiratorial elbow nudge...
We men gotta stick together and all that. (only semi-serious)
As for how I'm doing: I'm fine, all things considered. Working in a semi-empty office, with about one-third of my co-workers left. The rest is all working from home, as per the government's (or rather: the Outbreak Management Team's) request/strong advice.
Walking around with face masks, being annoyed at people who don't (especially in public transport) and already not particularly looking forward to the holidays, seeing as we're only allowed to invite 3 people into our homes and on New Year's Eve, no fireworks are allowed, other than sparklers and Bengal fire, if you know what those are (basically little kid's "fireworks"), because the government doesn't want to risk over-stressing the already all but over-stressed ICU's...
And officially, we don't have Boxing Day, but we do have two Christmas Day's, aptly named First and Second. And on the 24th, we have Christmas Eve, so I suppose it's included somewhere in there, albeit off the record.
Either way, I'm pretty sure that we'll still be able to get our feeding frenzy in, even in such small groups. That's something that'll never change, regardless of the number of people, since the Christmas holidays has always been about family AND good food. And plenty of it as well, so we can feel guilty about it again, and then promise to start losing weight or going to the gym again in the new year...
@ThanosReXXX
"I've reserved the same comment without smirkey face for moms. Bit more partial to women, you see..."
Totally get it, chivalry isn't dead, I always say.
"Outbreak Management Team'"
Do they walk around w/ t-shirts w/ OMT on them? I'm sorry, there's just something so 1980's horror movie about that. 😂
2 Christmas? Never heard of that, but Christmas Eve is such a big deal over here, at least in my family, that it's always kinda been it's own big family holiday. Do you know about the Feast of the 7 fishes? It's an Italian thing.
I know a little about the food over there, and the appreciation of the holidays, from a tv show 15 years ago called New Scandinavian Cooking with Andreas Viestad. He left after 2 seasons so I stopped watching, he was a very happy fellow, and burned them to DVD and gave them to my dad for Christmas 1 year. He cooked this HUGE pork rib w/ cloves like my dad used to make for Christmas when we were kids. yummy
We're still trying to figure out our holiday plans w/ my sister's family and parents. My other sisters family is going to Universal Studios in Florida for Christmas break.
Glad you are out and seeing people, I kinda pictured you trapped in your apartment plotting world destruction during the pandemic. No wait, that's our President. 😎
Don't worry about the holiday weight, no way to distinguish it from the pandemic weight. I'm making my family fat w/ all the snacks and sweets and "comfort foods". Are comfort foods a thing over there? Think mac & cheese, fried chicken, biscuits and gravy. You know, unhealthy.
Some day this pandemics gonna end.
@rjejr No, they don't walk around in T-shirts, the OMT consists of doctors, university professors and virus specialists, so they either wear white coats, or when they're asked to speak on some kind of news item or talk show, they wear business suits, so they actually look the part of secretive government organization. And the government blindly listens to them, economy be damned, which is the far more scary part of it all.
That, and the fact that even over here, it's actually called Outbreak Management Team. That was not my translation of it. The Dutch definitely do like their popular English labeling...
What's up with the comparing Scandinavians to Dutch when talking about food? The kinds of Christmas dishes they serve are VERY different. And I should know, having both Dutch and Danish relatives, both of whom I've celebrated Christmas with, on several occasions...
The two Christmas days are so that we can actually celebrate with and see all of our family in parts, instead of having a crazy household filled with dozens of people all at once. Also a good preemptive measure to prevent you from getting into an argument with your better half about who you should or shouldn't invite: first Christmas day is for the in-laws, second is for your own family. Everybody happy.
Oh, and in general, you go out the first day, and you stay in the second, so first you'll be the guests, and the next day, you'll be the hosts. That way even those tasks get divided evenly, which is as Dutch as it comes.
Let's not get into talking about the Donald. What an idiot. I was kinda hoping someone would have the guts to Kennedy him, so we'd be rid of him forever. Just imagine him coming back in four years. Perish the thought...
But enough of that, back onto more important things: yes, we do know comfort food, but over here, most of it is sweet, so chocolate, milkshakes, ice cream, candy, especially all kinds of licorice, and of course alcohol.
Snacks are used more as convenience, in case you don't feel like making dinner, or when you want to try and sober up a little while or after drinking. Or simply to be able to drink more after you've eaten something.
I know I certainly do like my snack plate while I have my Bacardi & Coke, in fact, I'm going to have that tonight. Probably add some spicy chicken skewers or grilled cheese sandwiches later that same evening. But we'll start lightly, with coffee and butter cake..
@ThanosReXXX I suppose in my head you aren't part of Scandinavian, but since Scandinavian is a weird thing to us over here anyway - Norway, Sweden and Finland do not add up to Scandinavia - might as well throw in Holland. Or Amsterdam. Or the Netherlands.
Not a 1980's movie, 1995, my mistake.
Enjoy your food and alcohol, and alcohol and food. I have not been drinking nearly enough lately, food fills me up and I'm done. Plus, I'm a horrible drunk.
@rjejr Yeah... I suppose that, for the average American, all European countries are part of a bigger whole, or at least closer to each other than in real life. Americans and European geography. No, scratch that: Americans and everything that isn't American, more like...
Scandinavia actually is a real and very official thing, regardless of whether anyone thinks it isn't. It has been a thing from WAY before any white man had ever set foot on American soil, and before that time, the region was simply known as the Nordic Isles, hence Norse men, aka vikings.
And in between that region and the Netherlands is a rather not so small country called Germany...
I guess in your mind, these are Scandinavians as well, then. Better not tell the Swedes or the Finnish people, or they'd probably have a rather large bone to pick with you, considering the history between these countries in the war...
As for drinking: I usually never go that far with it, especially when I'm drinking at home, even though I can definitely hold my liquor. I only ever get slightly inebriated, tipsy if you will, because I don't drink to get drunk, I drink because I enjoy the taste of it, and I like a bit of alcohol along with my snack plate.
A simple soda pop just won't do...
@ThanosReXXX Yeah I think we're a little old for pop.
W/ my wife working from home the past 9 months I'm just drinking coffee now like all the time. And she doesn't drink alcohol really, so drinking alone in a house w/ 2 or 3 other people is kinda weird. I still do it, a beer every here and there, but I'm much more of a social drinker, always have been. Maybe if I found something I enjoyed, whatever men my age are supposed to drinking, I'd be better for it. I've never really developed those taste buds though. Rye, scotch, bourbon, whiskey, whatever got me drunk. C'est la vie. Neither my wife nor I like wine, gives us both headaches, so that's out as well.
Maybe just me, but I think for Americans in general Scandinavia leads into Denmark/Copenhagen leads into the Netherlands/Amsterdam. Germany isn't a factor, it's how the coast flows. Fish, water, flowers, the sea. Germany is south of there. Italy more south still. France to the west. Neutral Switzerland in the middle. UK is out to sea. More or less.
Though probably most of the US could only name about half of those, way less find any of them on a map. 🤣
First they cancel Melee, now basic grammar rules?! #FreeEnglish
@rjejr Funny you should mention Denmark, as it literally sits smack dab on top of what used to be West Germany. Traveling from the Netherlands to Denmark takes about 10 to 11 hours by car, and most of that time is spent driving around in Germania (not a typo, I just like to call it that), seeing as you'll already hit the Dutch border after around 1,5 hours.
As for alcoholic beverages: I actually do drink wine, but mostly when out and about and accompanied by a good meal, and I only drink the good stuff, mostly red. And the good stuff doesn't give you headaches. Those are the cheap 7-11 kinds...
Nowadays, I stick to beers and Bacardi & Coke, but I do also like other things, such as Apfelkorn, which is great on the rocks, and for this time of year, Stroh rum is a perfect match. Which, by the way, is also used by the Austrians (its country of origin, obviously) in various recipes, such as deserts, cakes and pies.
Coffee is only for office hours (or, if you're retired: daytime), or as an after dinner moment, around 8pm. Those moments are appropriately called coffee time.
Of course, personal taste is a thing, and there actually isn't really any such thing as a fixed time for anything: it's just stupid humans and their incessant need to categorize and put stuff in boxes, otherwise they can't make sense of all the chaos in the universe around them.
But having said that, I personally wouldn't be able (or willing) to drink coffee all the time, especially in the weekends: that's my leisure time, and when I'm off the clock and can sleep without having the need for an alarm clock to raise me out of my slumbers, then I want to be able to indulge in my poison of choice...
@ThanosReXXX Not sure I've ever had a good red wine. Not that I've ever drank wine out of a box, but my life's wine consumption has mostly been about whatever is on sale, or the cheapest. So I suppose I did deserve those headaches.
I drink a lot of decaf coffee, helps cut down on coffees nasty side effects.
I do like the idea of desert alcohol. I think I'll look into that. I had a friend in high school who would pretty much only drink schnapps and blackberry brandy. Always considered that stuff too sweet - maybe in a coffee - but maybe it's time for a "nightcap". Though not a fan of apple, maybe peach.
Not sure how alcohol is sold over there but in the US we have grocery stores that sell all kinds of beer, and occasionally you'll come across those that also sell some cheap wine, but alcohol is only in liquor stores. And while liquor stores are all over, I never have a need to go in 1 since Target has the best beer selection around short of a "beer distributor" which only sell beer and maybe some novelty ice cube tray makers. That's in NY, beer/alcohol sales vary state by state.
Anyway, if Target sold schnapps or other alcohol I'd probably buy it. Or, if beer was only sold in liquor stores I'd probably pick some schanpps up while I was in there picking up beer. I don't think I can buy alcohol, wine or beer via Amazon or Target shipping, which is where I get most of my items these days not perishable edibles.
So, if I want a warm after dinner dessert buzz I'll need to make the extra effort to locate and step foot in a liquor store. I think I can make that work.
I did used to drink a lot more beer, not Kavanuagh levels but more, my family was a bunch of drinkers, but about 25 years ago when my dad entered AA - he was a more violent drunk than even I was - the family stopped having alcohol at most family gatherings. I didn't miss it, I didn't need it, but probably had my dad not done AA I'd likely be drinking a lot more today.
I'll send ya pics of our liquor collection. We use it for decoration. About a dozen bottles. All opened and about 50 years old, they may all be dry by now. If they aren't, might be time to start drinking them. Kinda forgot I had them. 🤣
@rjejr Nah, nobody deserves a headache, but, with cheap wine, you kinda can expect them...
As for the aforementioned liquor, I got you all sorted with some of your local sources. No need to leave the safety of your non-COVID infested home:
https://www.theliquorbarn.com/berentzen-apfelkorn-liqueur-750ml/
As seen on that page, there's other flavors too. Haven't tried those myself though, so those are at your own risk...
Either way, that's just an example, there's probably other stores that sell this brand in the US as well. But Berentzen is the brand you need. I've tried several others, and this one is simply the best.
And remember: on the rocks. I usually put it in a whiskey glass, with two or three cubes.
Then for the Austrian rum:
https://www.drinksandco.com/rum/stroh-80-50cl
Great appetizer for getting into the holiday spirit(s)...
It definitely does have a Christmas-y flavor, and I actually got acquainted with it on a winter sports vacation, so snow and Stroh is an excellent combination, far as I'm concerned.
@ThanosReXXX Thanks for the links. I took a few photos of the 50 year alcohol on my shelf that hasn't been moved in 20 years, I'll get them to you later. (hours, days, weeks, you know me) A couple of bottles I could not open at all, flavored liqueur is very sticky. 1 I broke the top off, thought it was a twist but it was a cork, and 1 bottle I can not move for the life of me. It's a big glass bottle on a little glass shelve so I'm afraid to the break the shelf. The bottle is hard core, probably damn near indestructible, 4 alcohols in 1.
Anyway I do have these for ya now, happy holidays. 🎄
@ThanosReXXX I had already been reading up on Berentz, that does seem the way to go. As I mentioned earlier not a fan of apple, but it may be the way to go. Wild cherry caught my attention but it's probably too sweet on it's own. Though about pear but if I'm going to try pear why not try apple which everyone seems to like?
I never did like rum, sorry, probably won't go that route.
@rjejr Haha, thanks for the card, Christmas and graduation day all in one, then?
As for the drinks: apple is definitely the way to go. It's called liqueur over on your side of the pond, but what it actually is, is a kind of schnapps, if you know about that. In case you don't, it's shots, but I usually drink it like whiskey, as previously mentioned. And you have to taste it to understand. It's more akin to rye/gin (the German name literally translates to "apple jenever", jenever basically being Dutch gin) with apple flavor, which makes it a bit thicker when going down, so you feel the warmth of its glow all the way down when you drink it...
And it just tastes really fresh. Kinda summer-y, if you will, but it goes down just as easily in the winter. If we ever get around to meeting up on these here shores though, I've got to let you taste Stroh. I can understand you not wanting to buy an entire bottle of something that you may not even like, but as my parents always taught me: never say you don't like something unless you've actually tasted it.
Stroh isn't like any other rum I know. It's called rum, but it's more like in a class all of its own, and it's flavored, so it has that almost candy-like, festive flavor to it. The Austrians also use it to make pastries and ice cream dishes with. And cakes. Much like American fruit cake, except replace the sugared fruit bits with raisins which have been soaked in Stroh for a couple of hours, and you have a wonderfully spiked piece of confectionery...
Anyway, be sure to let me know your verdict, once you've managed to get your hands on a bottle of Berentzen. I'd try it both as a shot and on the rocks, to see which way to consume it fits you the best. Both are good though, but obviously, on the rocks will last you longer, so you'll really be able to experience and enjoy the rich taste of it.
