Re: Feature: Zelda: Majora's Mask At 20 - The Enduring Appeal Of Nintendo's Strangest Game

KingBowser86

@nessisonett Definitely, but play the N64 original. Unlike OoT, the 3DS remake changes the boss battles and some other minor elements far too much.
Edit: looks up Restoration Patch, eh? Hmm, interesting. That would be worth checking out.

As for MM in general, it remains an intriguing game and a reminder of the careful balance needed to be struck with each Zelda game. I'll grant that Termina/Field should have been larger and more organic ala BotW, but for being dated, it blends sidequests, emotions, story, action, lore, everything very well.

Re: Fans And Analysts Ponder The Eternal Question: Can Nintendo Survive Without Shigeru Miyamoto?

KingBowser86

Miyamoto has indeed shaped much of Nintendo. Despite the mixed reports, I'd say that he kept the games "simple" and enjoyable. I kinda wish he had reined in the breaking items and the (few) other needless complications of BotW.
That said, age comes for us all. No one's immune. Nintendo will need to be ready to work without Miyamoto. As much as that might mean a Star Fox game without gimmicks, it could also mean that unfittingly complex or overly-pretentious stories could destroy the franchises' image. That also doesn't mean that it has to be without leadership, necessarily - Koizumi's track record is pretty stellar and would make for a solid creative leader.
It's not just the leaders doing the creative lifting, though. There are tons of people that make our favorite games. I'm sure that with that backbone that the Nintendo we know and love will be just fine.

Re: Super Mario Maker 2's Final Major Update Arrives April 22nd, Adds World Maker Mode, Frog Suit, And Koopalings

KingBowser86

@Ludovsky It's certainly possible if the gigantic Mario celebration we keep seeing rumored is coming, but I (and other commenters) can't help but feel if this is the end because the game's not garnering the attention it was planned to get. Multiplayer was already half-stepped on release as was the level of content, and they thought that was going to be enough to make it go full steam? Especially when Friendly Fire, constantly-bump-into-each-other multiplayer (as opposed to the "Can Overlap" approach) is already a pretty mixed bag? Big N baffles me, sometimes.

Re: HAL President Shares His Thoughts On The Company's History And Future

KingBowser86

From HAL? Tons. Kirby's Adventure being a pinnacle of NES platforming and visual design (and later portable other-genre spinoffs being charming and simple to casually play),
Kirby Superstar elevating the Nintendo-platformer formula with added tightly-knit abilities on top of an adorable multi-plotline format,
Slapping my copy of Pokémon Blue into my N64 controller and watching these creatures pop to life through Stadium,
The sheer aesthetics of Kirby's Dream Course (even if it was hard to do well on!),
The absolute joy to play that is Pokémon Snap,
The thrillride that has been Super Smash Bros.,
The quirky experience that is Earthbound (Mother 2),
Kirby Air Ride's fantastic core idea with City Trial even leading to the Smash Run mode,
To Kirby's Epic Yarn oozing cute and with a wild change to the artstyle and freshening the tired "Lives" system by tying it to the in-game currency instead, which would be later used by other games including Super Mario Odyssey.

I realize that I left a great deal of other Kirby games out of that list, but I already mentioned a bit and that's a large chunk of what they're known for.

Re: Nintendo Switch 10.0.0 Firmware Update Supposedly "Adds Preliminary Support For A New Hardware Model"

KingBowser86

@tzahn I do recall a number of early Nintendo surveys asking something along the lines of, "How do you play the Switch most often? Docked/Undocked," so, I'm wondering if a lot of those came back Docked such that they figure there's room for a 'console' model. This model could perhaps stream the same video to up to 4 other Switch/Lites, take care of the internal storage issue, make the appropriate room for hotly-requested streaming apps and such, and add Wii U-like capability. This eliminates the need to trade-in or get rid of one's current Switch hardware (a decision with which I'm sure the retailers would be happy).

Re: Guide: Where To Buy Ring Fit Adventure For Nintendo Switch

KingBowser86

I can certainly make that wasteful argument when looking at the endless Wii peripherals. Most of that surely must be in landfills by now. At least Labo is cardboard.
However, Ring Fit Adventure is a very worthy game and a customizable workout routine. Additionally, you could use the Ring-Con without any Joy-Cons attached as a simple pilates ring. Dunno why you would, but you could — despite being already manufacured for use with technology, it doesn't have to go to waste should the game get lost, outdated, or boring to you.

I see where we would want to keep an eye on proliferating plastic peripherals, but I can safely say that RFA is no joke.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #38 - Mario Party 2

KingBowser86

I've never cared for the tacky look of the pastel background / super-busy smattering of objects combo in other promo pieces. Makes more sense with something like Hello Kitty or some such. Less can definitely be more, and it doesn't have to be as extreme as the SMB3/SMW NA boxarts. NA gets this one (although that color saturation is super-noticeable).

Re: Cooking Mama: Cookstar Pulled From Switch eShop Amid Accusations Of Mining Cryptocurrency

KingBowser86

From the quote in NL's previous article:
"We are using blockchain to add new innovative gameplay that investors can now have equity in. Putting aspects of Cooking Mama on-chain will take the user experience to a whole new level, reinvigorate a popular game franchise that many grew up with and give investors an opportunity to make handsome returns, through a digital preferred share offering."

...okay, so if the players don't notice any obvious Blockchain feature like shared results, profiles, or recipes, or, seemingly, invest in the company from their Switch and recorded through Blockchain... then...?

"The Blockchain features were removed."
Cool. Sure. But why not explain what it was going to be in plain language? "Gameplay that investors can now have equity in" and "putting aspects of Cooking Mama on-chain" and "handsome returns, through a digital preferred share offering" doesn't explain a thing. I'm assuming it was being rewarded with stock for giving the series word-of-mouth advertisement?

I'm all for increasing my retirement fund by chopping digital onions but this is making me cry regardless.
