@Nintendo4Sonic I enjoyed the Wii U and Switch 1 titles as well, but couldn't get into them. Ended up never actually putting much time in even though I knew the games were solid. But Fusion has grabbed me and I keep going back to it, I think the jump mechanic really added a layer of depth that the previous titles needed.
It's interesting that Activision Blizzard is against SKG considering Blizzard (don't know about Activision) has never shut down any online server, not even the original Diablo's.
@MontyCircus They fired 50% of the staff and the remaining were moved to the Forza Horizon team. Horizon seems to be much more casual from what I hear, meaning the wider audience would yield better sales, so having a larger team on that series means a better series overall there.
And FWIW, you don't have Horizons without Motorsport first existing, so it was popular, then seemingly fell out of favor for whatever reason.
Generally happy with it. Handheld mode is not as good as it should be because of ghosting on the screen and primarily wanting to play shmups or just fast-moving games in general in handheld mode, this is pretty disappointing. I usually play on the TV anyway, but now I do even more.
Also wish there was an update to Metroid Prime Remastered so mouse controls could work.
@Aerona So, how do you play videogames then? It has always been that you buy the license to the game and it can be revoked at any time, physical games included. It's rare now (and has been rare for many years) that a game is packaged on a cart 100% complete with no dependence on patches.
10+ hours, probably close to 15 now. Really enjoying the intermission courses and greatly appreciate how each lap is different, I'm tired of the same 3 lap courses that don't change at all after decades of playing. Knockout is fun and after unlocking Rainbow Road, I've been playing exclusively online since the Adaptive AI feels so awful. Free roam is okay, it's too half-baked right now. Looking forward to how the game improves over the years. 8/10
No surprise, they've been scamming consumers and license holders into thinking they're a decent company for years. Really makes me wonder when the industry will realize they are god awful.
@DangoTown Welcome to the internet since forever, ha ha. I'm not trying to downplay anything you're saying, I completely agree with you. Although, I never saw a grand total until your comment. 202 is massive! I think Nintendo really undersold just how much is in the game by not giving intermission courses official names and could easily expand content by adding them to time trial courses.
@KayFiOS "You will drive on long straightaways and LIKE IT!"
This is why I think people are overreacting and afraid to even attempt to like something new before dismissing it. These "long straightaways" aren't barren, there's plenty to do. Boost pads, items, a roadway long enough to be able to snake, cars and such to avoid, rails to grind, hills/ramps to jump off of. Did I miss anything? Seriously, the ONLY thing these areas are missing are actual turns and what do you do when you're turning? You're drifting. You literally can't do anything but drift and steer a little bit while drifting. That's the boring part to me!
It's exactly why I think this version of Rainbow Road is the worst. That and falling off is almost impossible because it's so easy to stay on.
@jsty3105 Karts, yes, but not costumes. Actual characters were unlocked from the start. Kamek never existed in previous MK games, nor did having a rare, random item randomly transform you into a random character in order to unlock them with almost zero control over it (characters are location based).
@Bigmanfan With all of the massively imbalanced RNG items, can anyone seriously look at VR and think "these guys are competitive"? Mario Kart is a party game first and always has been. It's not like Smash where you can turn items off.
Didn't read all 200 comments here, but between this page and Reddit, seems like I'm in the super minority of those who actually like intermission courses. I've been racing 3 lap course for 30 years, I'd like a fresh approach now.
Also, to the people complaining their practice on 3 lap courses is now wasted; do you realize Mario Kart was always a party game with heavy RNG first and actual competition tenth? Mario Kart online, any of the games, is not where you should be going if you want to be competitive, lol.
@TheDragonDAFan Good. I know a lot of people seem to hate them, but not me. The game officially has 32 courses, but between intermissions, mirror mode and reverse directions, it's a lot more. I'd get pretty tired pretty quickly of playing just the same 32 official tracks.
Loving Fast Fusion, easily the best game in the series. Considering the price, I don't know how anyone could complain it's short on content, especially when the difficulty ramps up quickly. The real content after seeing all the tracks is skill.
Where's the poll option for people who have only played docked so far and plan to have very little use in handheld mode? It's not "I don't really care either way" because I would if handheld was a big part of my playing time or it somehow affects gameplay.
Okay? Developers very likely get paid a more than solid living wage already. Why should I care about the perks of the job that don't affect me in the slightest other than reminding me that I don't get these perks for doing well at what I do?
Thanks for the review, been passively looking for one since Nintendo's official is too much at $40. Ordered the big one, hoping to fit either the Pro controller or dock in there, measurements may work out. They claim 7-14 days.
@johnedwin What? I mean, you're right, but that doesn't apply here. SE gave the excuse that they wanted to preserve the original's feel, yet they are advertising two ways to play; classic (which preserves the original's feel) and revamped (or whatever word they're using). There is zero reason for them to not include the added content in the revamped mode.
Reading between the lines, SE probably has a budget that they refused to adjust and not adding this is their way of not going over. Still idiotic and ironically ignorant of potential lost sales. It also gives them a reason to say, yet again, a game "did not meet their sales expectations"
@Burning_Spear The dialogue is like nails on a chalkboard. Not including a sound option to turn off voices only was a baffling choice (PPT1, no idea about the other titles).
Bought PPT1 on Switch ages ago, have zero desire to buy 2 or 2S. Maybe if they stop drip-feeding new content and make a legitimate sequel like how most Tetris-only titles do it, I'd feel compelled to consider buying.
DK was plenty expressive before! Loved the DKC design and wish it was still around. This new design looks like it's from a Saturday morning cartoon and marketed towards 8 year olds, whereas old DK appealed to everyone.
This is like saying Samus needs to be more expressive. Dread is proof that subtlety is just as expressive as clear, outgoing emotions.
"To break it down simply, Sushi makes a sound every 16 seconds or so, according to Emanuar. This sound is repeated so frequently by the character that you never hear it in full."
@PJOReilly it's every 16 frames, not seconds. The guy even says so in the video at 10:18.
@TimelessJubilee This. Although, I think NL has slowly improved over the last two or so years. I do still go back and forth with my ad blocker here, though. It used to be when the articles were absolute trash (clickbait) or flat out wrong (and were seemingly never corrected), but the last time I turned it on was when ads became pretty intrusive.
I just turned it off after reading this. Like I said, I go back and forth.
99% sure you could destroy the computer terminals in stage 1 for some points in the original. I don't see that fixed here.
@Spider-Kev lol, the original had PLENTY of bugs that were never fixed. Difference is those bugs created the charm of the game. EDIT: Also, just because a game seems polished on one system doesn't mean a port/remaster on a new system wouldn't have new bugs. It's new code, so thus, new bugs got created.
@F-ZeroX I went out of my way to not use free aim and to try to play like it really was just a normal Star Fox. Maybe that's why I don't remember having issues.
@FartMuncher27 Obscene humor has to make sense, that's the difference here. I love Borderlands as much as the next guy, but there's a time and place for that humor and the presentation has to be good, it had to make sense. No one knows who these people are, but they introduce themselves as if we all know what to expect from them.
@FoxyDude Teaser trailer, it's a thing devs release early in development simply to announce that the project exists and to gauge early public perception of the idea behind the project.
@Spider-Kev Yeah, we're complete opposites here, lol. Zero had its flaws, but everything was manageable. Motion controls, keep the gamepad still, you don't have to use them to play. Button mapping was questionable, but not unplayable. Dual screen gameplay, I'm 99% certain you could just press Select to switch screens instead of moving your head. I went well out of my way to play the game as close to old school Star Fox as possible and ended up having Zero be my #1 Wii U game next to Smash.
That trailer was... not good. I don't even care they didn't show gameplay because I understand teaser announcement trailers exist, but talk about being classless. Seems like they're trying to copy Borderlands dialogue, but that is not a good first impression at all.
@Spider-Kev Eh, Starlink is an original IP with Star Fox tacked on for appeal, much like Dinosaur Planet before it was known as Star Fox Adventures. Neither is considered a good Star Fox game, even if they might be decent games in their respective genres.
I also couldn't jive with Starlink because of the unintuitive controls that can't be changed to something normal. Might have been a fun game otherwise.
@Bunkerneath Teaser trailers are designed to create talk and spread very early hype. Gameplay trailers generally release much, much closer to product release.
@Ryu_Niiyama It's effectively a demo in terms of content with all the limitations and the aesthetics that make Balatro so great are not here. Advertising this is also directly advertising the actual full game. I would not be surprised if LocalThunk appreciates the passion put into this as well.
I have the original mClassic from several years ago. The larger the screen, the more easily you can notice the improvements. They ARE subtle, there's no doubt about that and I'm sure some people wouldn't even see any difference (I know some folks who's eyesight is bad enough to not see the difference between natural 720p and higher resolutions). So $100 is still steep, but depending on the size of your TV and what kind of TV, you may or may not be throwing money away.
Came here for the Atari Lynx comments. I had one and it was fun when I could hook up the AC adaptor and didn't need to use the batteries that lasted five minutes, lol
This doesn't make sense to me because I could never get my US Paypal or card to work with either the JPN or EU eShops. Have always had to buy gift cards (from Play Asia), then add directly to my Nintendo account.
@Gryffin Yep. Comes in both English and Russian too. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will say there is something wrong with the recreation, but to my knowledge, it's as close to the original as you can get.
@Gryffin Electronika 60 was an unexpected gem. No music, no sound except for faint beeps, black and green terminal used for graphics, no line scoring. On paper, it sounds awful, but it's so relaxing and easy to focus on. The change in scoring also changes the meta of the game which I love.
