Re: The US Suffered Its Worst November Since 1995 In Terms Of Hardware Sales

@Gamer83 I didn’t mean to say that was the only problem it’s just the example I used. A lot of Nintendo’s other decisions were either stuff around the games, like going after emulation and copyright, or game pricing which ties into the economic problems. It all just comes down to people being much worse off and needing to be pickier with their purchases.

@Gamer83 I’d argue one is indirectly causing the other. When economic times are hard people are a lot tougher with their spending decisions, which causes a lot of consumers to come up with reasons to justify not spending. Now the normal reaction is to simply say you can’t afford this and move on with your day, but because the online gaming scene is as far from normal as you can get and are some of the most slavish dedicated consumers out there, this whole thing devolves into a toxic quagmire where reasonable discussion goes to die.

That’s not to defend Nintendo’s decisions. They’ve made some pretty dumb choices as of late, but I think a lot of people are overblowing how severe those decisions are. Game Key Cards are dumb but I think most people are more indifferent to them than outright hate them. At the end of the day everyone is being affected by this economic downturn, to put it gently, and whatever happens to Nintendo next is unknown. I don’t think they’ll top the Switch 1, but at this point what will? Even Sony couldn’t top the PS2.

Re: "Consumers Generally Do Not Care" About AI In Games, Says Former Square Enix Exec

Jireland92

Arc Raiders is a bad example because it only used AI in a small part of it that wasn’t even that important to the overall experience. If the whole game was made with AI that would be indicative of a positive or nonchalant with AI in games, but as is it just looks like a minor aspect that people don’t care about.

I’m no fan of AI, but there’s a right time to target it. Using it for a minor aspect of the game, which to be clear is dependent on what kind of game it is, and is done ethically then it’s fine. But if the awhile game is made with it then people generally get put off by it. There’s tons of AI generated games on Switch that never go anywhere because no one cares. There’s no artistry in it so there’s nothing enticing for consumers.

Re: Talking Point: Is Hollow Knight: Silksong Too Difficult?

Saying something is “too hard” is too simple a critique and far too easy to rebut with the tired old “jus git gud bruh” by the hardcore sweat lords. The real question people should be asking is why is it so hard? Is it the kind of challenge you enjoy overcoming or is it simply a tedious grind that you get no enjoyment out of. For example, Cuphead for me is the former while Celeste was the latter. Not that Celeste is bad just that it isn’t a kind of difficulty I personally enjoy. If Silksong is too hard for you, then you probably weren’t enjoying it to begin with.

Re: LEGO Batman: Legacy Of The Dark Knight Swoops Onto Switch 2 Next Year

@rjejr I meant the show not the character. The HQ show is very explicit which is the whole point. While Harley the character has her risqué moments she’s also tame enough to work in kids stuff. Her debut was even in a kids show. If you wanted to make a Lego HQ game it would have to be based more on the character and not the show. If James Bond was too much for Lego then the HQ show is going off the rails.

@rjejr the Batman movies have their dark moments but that’s part of the brand. Even the Batman cartoons could get pretty dark. But there’s a big difference between movies and shows with dark moments and themes, and a show that is very adult with lots of bad taste jokes and sexual references. And those aren’t things you can just remove either, the adult stuffs is baked into HQ!s DNA. Removing it misses the entire point.
