If there's one developer I'd prefer never to support a Nintendo console again it's EA. All the others I'd welcome back, so long as the NX gets treated equally with the others, even if I had no interest in their games.
I was really looking to this game but the more I hear the music in it the less I like it.
I love Japanese games, Japan, the people and the culture, but not Japanese pop music. The music in this sounds utterly dreadful and I don't think I could stomach it, even if the game is fab.
There are pros and cons to physical Vs. digital. Personally I'm physical, always have, always will be; I find there's more pros with physical. It's a personal choice, but there are some gamers out there who are highly vocal on which is better as fact. These people really tick me off.
One thing that I don't think has been mentioned is what happens with an older generation console that is digital only? If, for example the Gamecube was digital only, would we still be able to download games for it now or would it's own eShop be switched off like older on-line MP games? If it stayed on indefinitely then that would be great and would stop high value sales for rare games, EG - FE: Path of Radiance, but if they were switched off then older consoles would be utterly redundant and useless, plus the retro scene would suddenly stop growing beyond 2016ish.
This game was completely off my radar; the mega mushroom thing just looks tacky and awful and quite disruptive to the gameplay, but being able to play classic mode and on-line has peeked my interest.
"Nair believes that the Wii U's library - both past and new - is so broad and so packed with appealing titles that there's something for everyone"
That's fine if Wii U owners have a broad range in taste, or play games in-frequently. If they don't then they are screwed and suffer these long gaming droughts.
I for one am glad SF was delayed, but for others who didn't have anything else to look forward to this winter it must be hugely disappointing.
Seems a bit of a coincidence that the Zelda U delay could eventually tie in with the 30th anniversary - of course we will never know for sure. As long as it gets released on the Wii U and not cancelled so it can be released on the NX then that would be great.
@Xenocity - So I'm wrong about the dedicated Smash tournaments around the world. How ignorant.
A game's aesthetics have nothing to do with who they are aimed for. COD is largely easy pick up and play, but yet has the tag of being hardcode for dedicated gamers. Perhaps it's just the mature content.
And tell the crew here at Nintendolife on your thoughts on Splatoon. I'm sure Alex Olney would have a few words on your thoughts on it.
"Splatoon was given the nickname in the U.S. and on other gaming forums as "baby's first shooter" - well you've already shown your ignorance with not realising that the world isn't contained within the US borders.
@Xenocity - "Umm Nintendo's market has never been dedicated gamers EVER!"
I'm sorry, but that's just plain wrong - Smash & MK8 are massive with dedicated gamers and two of biggest sellers on all of Nintendo platforms. Yes they cater for casual market as well; hence the brilliance of Nintendo games. Smash is getting bigger & bigger with proper dedicated tournaments. I would even say Splatoon is going that way as well, and look at Mario Maker! How huge is that becoming!! Agreed there is a part of Nintendo that targets the casuals, sometimes with garbage. And that they market themselves as fun for the family, but Smash is for hardcode and casuals alike.
COD & Fifa may have dedicated gamers as you say, I don't know as I don't play them, but it is true that they cater for the casual market.
@HalloHerrNoob - those titles may be high selling games, overall, but they tank on Nintendo systems. Even on the Wii with 100+ million customers the highest placed Fifa game is 139. Yes there will be some who will want them, but it would be no great shame if they weren't there.
The third party section is interesting. Having the yearly rehash dross & awfulness that is COD, AC & fifa will be wanted by some, but the games that are sorely missing are titles like Metal Gear, FF, Fallout 4, GTA etc.
The casual market is long gone. IMO Nintendo needs to target dedicated gamers, the ones who want quality gaming.
What baffles me, on top of the obvious 18/M rating is the censorship is applied to the western copies. Yet Europe has completely different tolerances for this sort of thing compared with America . Why should Europe have to suffer because of NOA?
Personally I'm not bothered whether this sort of thing is included or not. It doesn't offend me nor is it something I seek. What I detest is the censorship when it isn't needed.
It's ironic that Scotland is such a believer and supporter of the EU, with whom it wants to maintain membership with, but yet it was the EU which held back gaming industry in the UK for years with it's slow, bureaucratic, red-tape nonsense.
If it wasn't for the EU, UK gaming industry would be far more ahead than it is now and succeeded the oil industry.
Currently on Metacritic with 18 reviews, with the majority at 7 and upwards. It's a few scores around the 5 mark from the likes of Gamespot & Destructoid that's pulling the score down. And Gamespot's opinion is worth about as much as ten quadrillion Zimbabwean dollars.
The negatives seem fairly minor to me, and since I rarely play this sort of game these negatives shouldn't be an issue. I'm glad a pre-ordered the special edition.
I'm intrigued to find out if this will scare me as no game has ever scared me before.
I really don't see the point of making Wii titles available as downloads, as all of these can be purchased relatively cheaply. Fire Emblem, that's a different matter as it's quite rare and pricey so I'd welcome that one.
And as for TP HD - really?? It's only last gen and can be played on the Wii U. Wind Waker made sense but I cannot understand the excitement for TP HD. The only good thing would be to play it using the Pro Controller.
What I would love to see more than anything else is GC titles and more N64. The N64 VC has been seriously neglected and I'd love a chance to play F-Zero GX and Sunshine again.
I loved ALBW, even if some elements were a bit of rehash. But this game looks utterly boring. For Nintendo, who usually pride themselves of implementing excellent single player experiences in multi-player games, is very disappointing.
They got it so right with MK, Smash, Splatoon and Mario Maker, but they've got it so wrong with this. Let's hope it's a one-off.
There are gamers and there are SERIOUS gamers. These products are aimed at the higher end of the market, exactly as @Damo has said. It's like comparing a music fan who'll spend upwards of £1000 on a decent record player to someone who streams music. Different strokes for different folks.
@retro_player_22 - oh yes they can. The fact they sold out the first batch is proof of that.
@Judgedean - agreed with that, especially in ranked battles. Some stage/mode combinations I'm better at than others and waiting for up to four hours is a drag.
Still splatting but trying to cut down to give me time to get into Smash and finish Zelda SS.
There's no mention of SMT DS2, which us European's are looking forward to and releases at the end of this month. Other than that it's a poor list IMO; it's all about Q1 2016 for me.
Zelda would've excited me but the multi-player aspect is a massive turn-off.
Played around 12 hours worth over the last few nights and didn't see one Octoling. Finally managed to re-claim my B rank after some very stressful games. With this announcement I'll be hanging up my Splatoon boots for a couple of weeks; gives me a chance to finally get into Smash and create some SMW levels. Plus Project Zero is only a month away.
The darker tone, mature graphical style and the theatrical nature is I believe, why some people love this Zelda title. But for me, what makes a great Zelda game is the sense of exploration, working out puzzles and how to beat the bosses. None of which is that great in TP; it lost that Zelda magic.
@LilC - "more of Nintendo's fans need to embrace multiplayer instead of immediately denying it before the game is even out yet."
Really? You do realise that the best selling Wii U game is Mario Kart 8, where the main focus is MP but with a solid SP. A few places behind is SMB, again solid in MP & SP. A few more places behind is Splatoon with the same deal. On the 3DS you Mario Kart 7, SMB and Monster Hunter all with high sales. Nintendo fans can hardly be accused of not embracing MP games.
Nintendo has always built solid SP experiences in their MP games. And each of these games is easily accessible for their MP experiences. Tri-Force Heroes, however, seems to put obstacles in place for all of experiences on offer. I personally like that Splatoon has no voice-chat, but even I can see that this game is dying out for it.
I had a feeling this was going to be a 'let down' for solo players. With Zelda being such a hot property it baffles me why Nintendo would limit the appeal of this game.
I've been a Nintendo fan since the late 80's, but even I would never think that the Wii U will make 20 million, 15 tops. As for the XBone, the best Microsoft can hope for is matching the 360 numbers.
If you look at what he says, he's basically having another dig at Nintendo for not reaching the numbers they did last gen.
Does someone pay this Pachter creature for his utter gibberish and nonsense, because they must be equally as mad if they do.
There are many things wrong with this latest rendition into the crazy world of Pachter, but the biggest one is to suggest that there are people out there who would want to play FIFA or COD and no other game...REALLY. How completely ignorant is that. And then to patronise Europeans be using FIFA as an example..."yeah sure Pachter I didn't get what you was saying when you highlighted COD, but now you mention FIFA I now get it - duh silly me".
Mario Tennis on the N64 was/is a superb game. It's perfect for local multi-player shenanigans and it's so much fun, more so than Mario Kart 64 IMO. However, this new iteration looks far to gimmicky with that mega mushroom thing; it breaks up the main game which would be so annoying. So this will be joining the likes of Mario Party 64 and Kirby as Nintendo Wii U games not joining my collection. Project Zero 5 and Xenoblade will be my winter treats, if I can stop playing Splatoon and SMM.
@Yorumi - true, but that's not saying very much compared to the PS4. Considering Microsoft's costs etc. I'm sure they're in the worst position out of the three, commercial at least.
@gatorboi352 - quite agree. Stupid Nintendo owners for buying a Nintendo console and wanting/prioritising Nintendo games. How dare they. Cough "sarcasm" cough.
@DarthNocturnal - I think it has 13 million but yeah, you're right, the xbone doesn't get any doom and gloom even though the PS4 is destroying it sales wise.
@HueyLewisFan - I agree, seems like a massive overreaction. The NX isn't due for at least twelve months and they'll want to keep Wii U owners happy between now and then with some quality games to get excited about.
I wonder if with the delay of Starfox they'll bring the SMT crossover game forward.
For me this is good news. The time between E3 and the original Nov release date was extremely ambitious. The sub-par graphics was not an issue for me but any improvement in this area is always welcome. I just hope this extra time is spent making it more original and unique.
Although a niche title, there is Project Zero to look forward to which was not mentioned in the article.
Like most people here I completed all but the last levels. I always try to 100% Mario platformers but this one I had to admit defeat, which affects my milk OCD which I try to ignore.
3D World is an outstanding game in all aspects. The only thing that stands against it is the lack of innovation. I never played the multiplayer though.
SMB3 and especially SMW were made with love, care and devotion. They are finely crafted games at the top of their genre that have stood the test of time. The NEW 2D games, although enjoyable, don't have that same love and devotion.
Personally I believe there is room for both 2D & 3D, which should alternate with releases. The 3D games still have impressive sales numbers and a proper SM64 sequel or Galaxy 3 would be great. However, the 2D versions need a complete overhaul to maintain interest and relevance for years to come. Unfortunately you can't argue with sales though; they are like COD and FIFA in some respects - they don't change the formula too much and so they appeal to masses.
@FragRed - Project Zero is limited release. So Nintendo UK would've taken a percentage of that and so would GAME. Nintendo UK just happened to put theirs up first and sold out their allocation within hours. I don't think it's a case of Nintendo UK not restocking nor is it a GAME exclusive. Perhaps it's just a case of it being a limited release and only two distributors getting it, and so GAME display "Only at GAME" knowing full well that Nintendo UK sold their allocation. It's just a theory, but one that suits dodgy marketing tactics of GAME.
@ThomasBW84 - I'm with you on that, supporting local stores rather than awful corporate companies like Amazon that seem to suck the life out of everything else. That being said, there are much better independant gaming stores out there than Game. Game is pretty poor and well over priced, especially in-store.
I'm of an age that my first console was an NES and my first game was SMB. Each iteration got better and better but it wasn't until SMW came along that finally gaming perfection was born. To me the 16bit era was when gaming come of age, and SMW is a symbol of that.
@ShikabaneHime13 - brilliantly said. Your rational comment makes a lot of other people here on this thread look rather foolish and childish.
Personally I have no issues with this game or others like it, but respect others who may not if it isn't their taste. I may get it as it could be something I enjoy, but it's also two fingers to the moral brigade who want to ban games like this.
It's different strokes for different folks and if you like this game, great, and if you don't like it, that's also great. But complaining about its content or moaning that the review doesn't sit with your own is very ignorant indeed.
Two things that prevent me buying a game, no solo mode and micro transactions. A broken solo mode is a no solo mode in my book. So it looks like this is no longer on my radar.
Point of frustration - I haven't read every single comment but there's no mention of the "no voice chat", but yet every other comment on Splatoon was on the lack of voice chat. Hmm...

Mistakes do happen. But to happen twice and not to inform your customers is customer relations at the poorest level. It's really quite shocking.
Re: GAME Promises Quick Refunds After Charging Customers for Too Many Super Mario Maker Pre-Orders
@ThomasBW84 - I'm with you on that, supporting local stores rather than awful corporate companies like Amazon that seem to suck the life out of everything else. That being said, there are much better independant gaming stores out there than Game. Game is pretty poor and well over priced, especially in-store.
Re: Poll: Which Is The Best Super Mario Platformer? - 30th Anniversary Edition
@NightmareEater - by that logic SMB is clearly superior as NO Mario game would exist without it.
Re: Poll: Which Is The Best Super Mario Platformer? - 30th Anniversary Edition
I'm of an age that my first console was an NES and my first game was SMB. Each iteration got better and better but it wasn't until SMW came along that finally gaming perfection was born. To me the 16bit era was when gaming come of age, and SMW is a symbol of that.
Re: Video: Nintendo's European Super Mario Maker Commercial Heads to the City
Damn fine add. It is fascinating how the three regions have taken three completely approaches for their adds.
I don't know about the rest of Europe, but here in the UK Nintendo isn't seen as cool, but this add does a pretty good job to show it can be.
Re: Review: SENRAN KAGURA 2: Deep Crimson (3DS)
@ShikabaneHime13 - brilliantly said. Your rational comment makes a lot of other people here on this thread look rather foolish and childish.
Personally I have no issues with this game or others like it, but respect others who may not if it isn't their taste. I may get it as it could be something I enjoy, but it's also two fingers to the moral brigade who want to ban games like this.
It's different strokes for different folks and if you like this game, great, and if you don't like it, that's also great. But complaining about its content or moaning that the review doesn't sit with your own is very ignorant indeed.
Re: Review: Devil's Third (Wii U)
Two things that prevent me buying a game, no solo mode and micro transactions. A broken solo mode is a no solo mode in my book. So it looks like this is no longer on my radar.
Point of frustration - I haven't read every single comment but there's no mention of the "no voice chat", but yet every other comment on Splatoon was on the lack of voice chat. Hmm...
