Re: Dead Or Alive Producer Feels That A Cultural Divide Exists Between Japan And The West

JaxxDuffer

What annoys me about people like this "Cara Ellison" is that seem to on some sort of 'crusade' to change video games that the video games industry, and the majority of us normal people doesn't want. But they say nothing about the film, TV or music industry which is far worse.

There are so many things far worse than seeing a woman a woman dressed provocatively. Even a Shantae review questioned the heroin's outfit.

Re: Not Everyone is Thrilled That Metroid Prime Trilogy Lands on the Wii U eShop Tomorrow

JaxxDuffer

I bought my copy a year ago, new but not sealed for £65. Am I upset? No not at all, as it gives everyone a chance to play this amazing game at a dirt cheap price.

It's still a rare collectors item regardless if it's available as a digital download. Look at what's available on VC from the SNES era and then see what some of games go for on EBay. Zelda LTTP goes upward from £100 for a decent copy.

I'm now hoping that the retail Kirby's adventure now drops in price when it becomes available for download.

Re: Gallery: A Closer Look at the Latest Splatoon Updates

JaxxDuffer

"are you excited about Splatoon?"

Very much so. The visuals look stunning, it's a new IP, not that I have a problem with old IPs, and it's a fresh exciting take on a tired worn-out genre.

I just hope that one can jump on-line and play much like Mario Kart, IE - you don't need to have three friends to make a team.

Re: Nintendo Download: 15th January (Europe)

JaxxDuffer

Axelay and Demon's Crest are very welcome titles. Demon's for being rare and ridiculously expensive and Axelay for some of the best graphics on the SNES, but is also a great game too if a little short and easy.

Re: Digital Foundry Ponders Next-Gen Hardware Options for Nintendo

JaxxDuffer

Agreed with those that late 2017 will be when they release the Wii U successor as it fits their usual timeline. Perhaps earlier.

The big issue I see is that after the current forthcoming games in 2015 what else can Nintendo release? Sure there's F-Zero, FE, Pilotwings, Battalion Wars and a few others but these are more niche titles. Without third party support and no big hitters left this gen, I can't see Nintendo releasing enough games to keep the Wii U fan base happy, unless they've got a few tricks up their sleeves.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Confirms Playable Star Fox for E3, a Future for F-Zero and More

JaxxDuffer

@Jazzer94 - Agreed. The fact that F-Zero could be coming is something to celebrate. There are far too many whingers out there.

@KryptoKrunch - "each F-Zero game sold less and less" - hardly surprising since each subsequent system that came out which featured an F-Zero title also sold less than the predecessor.

@NaturalGus - Completely true. A game doesn't have to sell in the same numbers as Mario & Zelda to be good or successful. PaperMario, FE etc. sell far less but are still regularly created.

Different gamers like different genres and not all genres will be as successful as others. But that doesn't mean they can't be created. The more variety on offer the better a console is. And with more variety the more potential buyers.

Re: Feature: Dreaming of a Nintendo Christmas - Damien McFerran

JaxxDuffer

Although we had an NES in the family it wasn't until I got an imported Super Famicom for Christmas in 1990 or 91 until I owned my first console. It was by far the best Christmas I ever had. Playing SMW and F-Zero was such a joy, and I was completely blown away with the superiority of these games.

What made it sweeter was it wouldn't be another 18 months before the PAL version was released.

Re: UK Retail Survey Highlights the Challenges Facing Nintendo

JaxxDuffer

It's hard to pin point where the issue with the UK is. FIFA will always do well here, for obvious reasons. And not having it on the Wii U, as much as I despise the game, will hurt Wii U sales.

I think it's largely down to marketing and branding. It appears to me that the UK market is a lot younger than most and Nintendo is not seen as "cool". The majority of teenagers want to appear to be "grown-up" and so the xbone appeals to them. Nintendo is no longer seen as cool. It done well with the Wii because it tapped in to the family market, but that's no longer there.

Re: Nintendo Titles Struggle to Make an Impact in Official UK Charts

JaxxDuffer

This downward trend in the UK is very concerning, but it doesn't appear to be a Europe thing. The Wii U does ok in Germany & France, behind the PS4 but still ahead of the XBone. The XBone only does well in the UK & US.

I don't blame the shops, they are only going to display what will sell. And with little to no advertising Nintendo products just don't sell enough. Both Sony & Microsoft advertise their products on TV, radio, buses, billboards, big posters and wall displays in shops. Nintendo do nothing.

Of course Nintendo through no advertising may turn around a better profit margin than the other two which may put them into a stronger position in the future. The risk, is that if this trend continues then eventually they become irrelevant.

Come on Nintendo...SORT IT OUT...there are a number of us here in the UK that do not want the COD and FIFA bore fests to dominate the UK.

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo 64

JaxxDuffer

Back on topic - I re-purchased an N64 18 months ago as I've gone all nostalgic and it's been a fantastic purchase. And I get to play all the titles I missed first time around - Paper Mario, Conker, MM. A truly ground-breaking system and a pivotal moment in gaming history.

It does feel a little dated in places, but not as much as other systems from that period. But includes some of the best games ever made.

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo 64

JaxxDuffer

@BaffleBlend - I was one of those that bought a Wii, didn't like it, (Zelda TP being a particular disappointment), sold it and moved over to the PS3.

I wasn't alienated though as I now have a Wii U. I think taking a break from Nintendo was a good thing as I got to see what it was like batting for the other team. I'm absolutely loving my Wii U plus I get to play all the great Wii titles I missed. I think I may be in the minority though.

Re: Talking Point: The Time Is Right For A Nintendo Phone

JaxxDuffer

If Nintendo can't keep up with Microsoft and Sony what chance have they got going up against Apple or Samsung?

The first thing they need to do is repair their brand value concerning home consoles. They are smashing it with the quality of their games right now but they're still not selling enough Wii Us. If kids aren't buying their consoles how could they sell phones?

Re: Code Name: S.T.E.A.M Local and Online Multiplayer Confirmed, Hits North America on 13th March

JaxxDuffer

@Samuel-Flutter - Do it. Fire Emblem Awakening was my first dip into Intelligent System RPG/strategy games and it's fantastic. Even though it's meant to be one of the easiest FE games I still found it tough to get in to with a steep learning curve, but once it bites it doesn't let go and is a blast.

Now I've got all the Paper Mario, Advance Wars and FE back catalog to get into, plus Project STEAM.

Re: Research Firm's Black Friday Data Shows Wii U Lagging Behind in Sales

JaxxDuffer

@Quorthon

Saying that Nintendo is the worst at rehashing is complete and utter rubbish. One Smash per generation, one MK per generation, one or two Zeldas per generation. I would agree that Mario Party is a bit of a rehash though.

And yet Activision released thirteen CODs on the XBox 360, or is it fourteen now. There's been so many I can't keep up.

Re: Research Firm's Black Friday Data Shows Wii U Lagging Behind in Sales

JaxxDuffer

@Kifa
@Quorthon

Kifa is right on this. Nintendo games are of a much higher standard than third party games. So if a Wii U owner is looking to buy some games would they rather spend their money on Nintendo's high quality exclusive titles or buggy third party poorly ported mediocre ones? It's a no-brainer.

The fact is third party games don't sell on Nintendo systems because they are rubbish. And on top of that, the ones that have arrived have been the yearly rehashes or are just mediocre, even for third party standards.

I and many Wii U owners would happily buy third party games if they were any good or would come to the system. GTA5 would be snapped up if a good port was available.

Re: Research Firm's Black Friday Data Shows Wii U Lagging Behind in Sales

JaxxDuffer

@TrueWiiMaster - Stupid people I'm afraid. When they see huge discounts they see saving money.

@Kaze_Memaryu - I think Nintendo have missed a chance because now all these potential Wii U owners have now bought an Xbox. The people rushing out on black Friday will be the casual crowd and will probably not get a second console.

Once again Nintendo's marketing department have failed again...sigh.

Re: Feature: The Wii U is Two Years Old, But How's it Doing?

JaxxDuffer

For me it's a C+ or even a B-.

The positives are...it's a capable gaming system. Fantastic amazing games. Games you can't get anywhere else. Nintendo high quality.

The negatives are...the game droughts. Poor branding and marketing. Lacklustre VC support. Lack of 3rd party support. Although at times I feel this is a blessing as we don't get all the EA cr*p.

Personally I don't care for multi platforms, but understand those who want to supplement their Nintendo collections with them. However, there are one of two I would like, Shadow of Mordor, GTA5 for example. But all those that moan about 3rd..."get over it" and "stop moaning". It is what it is.

At the end of the day you buy a Nintendo platform for Nintendo games. And right now, Nintendo is smashing it with their quality and 2015 looks tremendous. They haven't been this good since the N64, IMO of course.

Re: Sony: PS Vita Is Better Than 3DS And The Wii Brand Is A "Shadow Of Its Former Self"

JaxxDuffer

Hahahaha.......talk about sour grapes.

Some people do & say things in style, with grace and as Damien stated in the article, "with decorum". This Shawn Layden muppet has none of these things and has only made himself look like a complete and utter pathetic sour moron.

Technically the Vita is more powerful than the competition. But is it better? Well that's down to personal preference and the voice of the consumer. And since the voice of consumer clearly thinks the Vita is a steaming pile of garbage, as shown in the sales figures, then the Vita is clearer not the best portable gaming experience.

I wonder if this joker would say the same thing about the PS.

Re: Mario Kart 8 Software Update and DLC Available Now

JaxxDuffer

MK8 is the best fun I've had in gaming since Zelda OOT and Mario64, (I know, its been a while) but I've got to wait until I get home early tomorrow afternoon to download and play Mute City because of some job interview............

Aaaaaaarhhhhhhh...curse that annoying scheduling of importance.
