What the 3DS successor should be is not just a beefed up 3DS. Yes it should have HD and other nice little things, but it should be revolutionary, something to capture the imagination and excite gamers.
People wanting a 3DS but a bit better and a few tweaks here and there are setting their expectations way to low, in my opinion.
Any improvements to the battle system are most welcome. I'm currently playing Xenoblade Chronicles and the battle system is holding me back some what. Fantastic game though.
I completely agree. A product is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. That's why when these greedy sellers put a ridiculous BINP it almost never sells.
I bought my copy a year ago, new but not sealed for £65. Am I upset? No not at all, as it gives everyone a chance to play this amazing game at a dirt cheap price.
It's still a rare collectors item regardless if it's available as a digital download. Look at what's available on VC from the SNES era and then see what some of games go for on EBay. Zelda LTTP goes upward from £100 for a decent copy.
I'm now hoping that the retail Kirby's adventure now drops in price when it becomes available for download.
The Luigi's Mansion games are fantastic, but the Wii U doesn't need this type of game right now and Retros skills would be better suited to something else like Pilotwings, F-Zero, External Darkness or even Kid Icarus.
Very much so. The visuals look stunning, it's a new IP, not that I have a problem with old IPs, and it's a fresh exciting take on a tired worn-out genre.
I just hope that one can jump on-line and play much like Mario Kart, IE - you don't need to have three friends to make a team.
Axelay and Demon's Crest are very welcome titles. Demon's for being rare and ridiculously expensive and Axelay for some of the best graphics on the SNES, but is also a great game too if a little short and easy.
Agreed with those that late 2017 will be when they release the Wii U successor as it fits their usual timeline. Perhaps earlier.
The big issue I see is that after the current forthcoming games in 2015 what else can Nintendo release? Sure there's F-Zero, FE, Pilotwings, Battalion Wars and a few others but these are more niche titles. Without third party support and no big hitters left this gen, I can't see Nintendo releasing enough games to keep the Wii U fan base happy, unless they've got a few tricks up their sleeves.
@Jazzer94 - Agreed. The fact that F-Zero could be coming is something to celebrate. There are far too many whingers out there.
@KryptoKrunch - "each F-Zero game sold less and less" - hardly surprising since each subsequent system that came out which featured an F-Zero title also sold less than the predecessor.
@NaturalGus - Completely true. A game doesn't have to sell in the same numbers as Mario & Zelda to be good or successful. PaperMario, FE etc. sell far less but are still regularly created.
Different gamers like different genres and not all genres will be as successful as others. But that doesn't mean they can't be created. The more variety on offer the better a console is. And with more variety the more potential buyers.
Although we had an NES in the family it wasn't until I got an imported Super Famicom for Christmas in 1990 or 91 until I owned my first console. It was by far the best Christmas I ever had. Playing SMW and F-Zero was such a joy, and I was completely blown away with the superiority of these games.
What made it sweeter was it wouldn't be another 18 months before the PAL version was released.
@Peach64 - absolutely true. There's so much UK bashing and no US bashing but these idiots are so dumb they don't realise that the US market is almost the same.
@sub12 - funny that, because I was thinking the same thing about you.
It's hard to pin point where the issue with the UK is. FIFA will always do well here, for obvious reasons. And not having it on the Wii U, as much as I despise the game, will hurt Wii U sales.
I think it's largely down to marketing and branding. It appears to me that the UK market is a lot younger than most and Nintendo is not seen as "cool". The majority of teenagers want to appear to be "grown-up" and so the xbone appeals to them. Nintendo is no longer seen as cool. It done well with the Wii because it tapped in to the family market, but that's no longer there.
This downward trend in the UK is very concerning, but it doesn't appear to be a Europe thing. The Wii U does ok in Germany & France, behind the PS4 but still ahead of the XBone. The XBone only does well in the UK & US.
I don't blame the shops, they are only going to display what will sell. And with little to no advertising Nintendo products just don't sell enough. Both Sony & Microsoft advertise their products on TV, radio, buses, billboards, big posters and wall displays in shops. Nintendo do nothing.
Of course Nintendo through no advertising may turn around a better profit margin than the other two which may put them into a stronger position in the future. The risk, is that if this trend continues then eventually they become irrelevant.
Come on Nintendo...SORT IT OUT...there are a number of us here in the UK that do not want the COD and FIFA bore fests to dominate the UK.
Back on topic - I re-purchased an N64 18 months ago as I've gone all nostalgic and it's been a fantastic purchase. And I get to play all the titles I missed first time around - Paper Mario, Conker, MM. A truly ground-breaking system and a pivotal moment in gaming history.
It does feel a little dated in places, but not as much as other systems from that period. But includes some of the best games ever made.
@BaffleBlend - I was one of those that bought a Wii, didn't like it, (Zelda TP being a particular disappointment), sold it and moved over to the PS3.
I wasn't alienated though as I now have a Wii U. I think taking a break from Nintendo was a good thing as I got to see what it was like batting for the other team. I'm absolutely loving my Wii U plus I get to play all the great Wii titles I missed. I think I may be in the minority though.
If Nintendo can't keep up with Microsoft and Sony what chance have they got going up against Apple or Samsung?
The first thing they need to do is repair their brand value concerning home consoles. They are smashing it with the quality of their games right now but they're still not selling enough Wii Us. If kids aren't buying their consoles how could they sell phones?
Zelda is looking epic. Personally I haven't been this excited for a game for at least a decade.
Four game awards plus the indie title and a stunning looking 2015 lineup. It's been a long time since it's been this good for Nintendo fans and never a better time to buy a Wii U. Yet, ironically, the Wii U is just not hitting the highs it deserves.
@Daruncic - I can't imagine not being able to share online. I can see an an online repository where we can all share and play everyone's levels, all grouped up with some sort of ratings system. The potential for this game is huge.
@Samuel-Flutter - Do it. Fire Emblem Awakening was my first dip into Intelligent System RPG/strategy games and it's fantastic. Even though it's meant to be one of the easiest FE games I still found it tough to get in to with a steep learning curve, but once it bites it doesn't let go and is a blast.
Now I've got all the Paper Mario, Advance Wars and FE back catalog to get into, plus Project STEAM.
Saying that Nintendo is the worst at rehashing is complete and utter rubbish. One Smash per generation, one MK per generation, one or two Zeldas per generation. I would agree that Mario Party is a bit of a rehash though.
And yet Activision released thirteen CODs on the XBox 360, or is it fourteen now. There's been so many I can't keep up.
