This is a great list, and with the glaring omissions it’s even better. I think it’s also clear that the recent direct only focused on the first six months of the year. If true, then the second half could be amazing.
There are plenty of titles and variety. Most gamers should be satisfied with something.
I love the concept, this is Nintendo at their playful best, and I look forward to trying this with my daughter towards the end of the year. I feel that the price is a touch high for the masses though. Perhaps there is a premium for being early adopters and hopefully the cost will come down later on.
@Anti-Matter - You’ve got it so wrong. No one should be LECTURED on or told to embrace a brand if it doesn’t suit them, that’s very ignorant. Your own personal tastes do not represent the general consensus.
Teenagers and young adults, the main target for the Switch, do not want a product that looks like a cheap plastic toy. With iPhones etc. and their sleek designs it’s important for the Switch to look equally as cool. A teenager will always want to look older and do older things and Nintendo has nailed it in that regard. That doesn’t stop games for all ages and tastes from appearing on the console. At least with a great design everyone can enjoy the Switch and it’s accessories and games.
The most important thing is that Nintendo has successful products for all ages, because the more successful they are the more we ALL benefit, regardless of one's tastes.
I think there's a very good reason for using cardboard. Here in the UK at least, there's a big push to start removing plastic from supermarkets due to the amount of waste it produces. Our seas and oceans are awash with plastic waste; it's being heavily promoted in recent nature programs and news.
Nintendo is all about sustainability, and using cardboard fits into that mindset. The younger generations have really embraced environmental issues and I think this is going to be really popular with them.
At least from the UK, the data isn't hard to find it just has to purchased and it's expensive. I imagine no one is prepared to pay for it or interested enough to pay for it, analyse it, and share across sites like this.
Very well done though, great game. I haven't played it as much as Splatoon but only because it's a time sink and my backlog took a beaten.
It's stories like this that rekindles the gaming candle. With the likes of EA and Activision with their so called "triple AAA" productions, sucking the soul out of gaming, it's developers like Davide who puts the soul back in and restores the balances.
Very happy to see Dark Souls, and a day after my birthday no less. Ys VIII I'm also thrilled about as well. Fingers crossed they don't screw up Mario Tennis like they did on the Wii U.
Two games I planned to get on the PS4 I'll now get on my Switch. What's that about them not being in competition with each other...!!!
I can only imagine they've got something really big lined up to equal the hype that's building up. Anything less than "Amazing" and it will fall flatter than a French pancake.
I really wanted to get into Arms, but being released so close to Splatoon 2 I could really only give one of them the attention they deserve. Nothing is getting ahead of S2.
Looks like they real nailed the DLC. But I won’t be getting it. The backlog is increasingly and time is short. Mario, Horizon and Persona 5, all game of the year nominees, need my attention.
Edit: I forgot Nier Autamata, Mario & Rabbids, Skyrim, Metroid, Nier, Xenoblade (possibly) and RE7 Gold Edition. 2017 is surely the best year of gaming in recent times. If not ever. But also the most challenging with all the EA and destiny crap.
I think the Big N ideliberately delaying VC is a good move because it allows the EShop and Indie titles to shine and gain popularity.
They want to bring on and support as many developers as possible because their own titles out sell everything else, which only frustrates the developers.
And it's working. There are tonnes of quality titles and some are selling very well.
@Anti-Matter - If you dislike the UK and the UK gamer so much, why do you bother commenting on a UK article on a UK site.
More trolling from you I see with your kiddie game nonsense. Video games are for all ages and all tastes. If you don't like certain genres, fine, that's up to you, but don't bash people who do like them. And liking adult games doesn't mean not liking softer games either.
@faint - The difference here though is Switch owners are being forced to purchase an additional card to play certain games to their full potential. On a PS4, you can get roughly ten full sized games incl. updates on a standard 500GB disk before you need delete the games when you want to play more, which is exactly what I do. So if I want, I never have to upgrade the HDD. So it's not the same thing and it's entirely justifiable for Switch owners to be upset by this.
Much like others, Awakening was my first FE game and I loved it, even though I struggled early on using the harder classic setting. But Fates...I just couldn't get into. For me I didn't like the home base and I missed the over-world map of Awakening. So I sold both copies of Fates.
Will get Echoes after clearing some of my 3DS backlog, and of course Metroid.
Very rarely do I pre-order, but I had to for Splatoon 2 - even avoided the Splatfest at the weekend to save myself for Friday. I'm actually more excited for this than Mario Odyssey, which is saying something.
As much as I despise the man and his business practises, he is a successful business man. So why he thinks GAME is worth investing in is a mystery to me.
Agreed with @Grumblevolcano, Smyths are very good.
For online there's thegamecollection.net, simplygames.co.uk and shopto.net that are always worth considering. Failing that Argos, Tesco Direct and 365games.co.uk and worth checking out.
Fascinating numbers. It's interesting to see how much of a percentage each system sold in Japan compares to the rest of the world. Japan has a third of all 3DS owners, just less than half of Vita owners, perhaps a quarter of Switch owners and less than ten percent of PS4 owners.
Considering MHXX is the best selling software, it makes Capcom's decision not to port MH World to the Switch even more baffling. Here's hoping there will be dedicated Switch MH exclusive.
Hogwash - So how bad would their profit margins be if Switch hadn't released in March, which is a lot earlier than Nintendo would've planned! They would be a lot worse. Blaming this on Nintendo shows pure desperation.
Did a search on Xenoblade on the game website and found the 3DS console with Xenoblade for £499. That's the reason why they are in trouble...by ripping people off.
After forgetting I had one in the basket and then losing out, and searching for over an hour last night including all the smythstoys stores I've managed to snag one from Nintendo UK, 23 minutes after receiving their email...phew
I've known about this for a while, since I'm on the the Analogue mailing list. And I love the idea behind it. But with the queen's £ so low against the $ it's become a bit too pricey. Perhaps in the future when things change and I have more disposable income.
The first thing though is just to make sure there are no more Japan only releases. Games like Nioh & Nier show that there is an appitite for Japanese style of games in the West.
Horizon Dawn also had a few days head start and many stores sold out of their Zelda: BOTW shipment. SmythsToys being another example. Though it seems more of the Wii U version rather than the Switch.
I think next weeks figures will be just as fascinating.
I was super glad to hear physical copies being released, but not having one confirmed for the Switch and £20 extra for a PS4 version is very disappointing, so I'll be requesting my £100 refund.
Such a shame, I'll get the standard PS4 version from thegamecollection.net for £28 and put the savings to a Switch purchase.
@rjejr - Being from the UK I can't be 100% certain but each European country in the Eurozone still sets their own tax rates, so there could be natural differences before even looking into different marketing strategies. EG - Price reductions in the UK are seen as good by the consumer but bad in Germany. So the price in Germany may stay the same regardless of sales, but in the UK game prices are dropping like stones when sales are bad.
As was mentioned before, the Euro currency is half baked until there is more political union. But that's a whole different kettle of fish.
Unless the reviews notice a performance dip of the Wii U version compared to the Switch then it's the Wii U version. It was originally designed for it and will be the crown in my Wii U library. Plus my Switch purchase won't be until Splat2 is released and even though there are a lot of great games on the way, Zelda is at the top of the pile.
Plus Wii U versions could retain a lot more value in years to come.
Personally I'm very glad they made this approach. There is nothing worse than being forced to pay for a game you have no intention of playing. Nintendoland may have been good but I played it for ten minutes.
There should always, always be a standard SKU but perhaps there should also be bundles to go alongside. Perhaps a 1-2 Switch bundle and a Zelda bundle at a slightly reduced price than buying console & game separately. Seems logical to me.
Unless Breath Of The Wild runs poorly on the Wii U I'll hold off my Switch purchase until Mario and Splatoon are near release. Plus those very high game prices will have dropped a bit by the summer. And I can only assume the price of the Pro Controller is mistake - £64.99? Really??
Presentation was a bit dry but what matters is the console and games, and they delivered. Really excited for Mario & S2. Splatoon is by far my favourite game in the last ten years, and that includes Nintendo and PS games.
All Switch games are £49.99 on thegamecollection.net, and prices are reasonable at Smythstoys.co.uk. No need to go to these rip-off corporate sites like amazon or game.
Personally I'm a little disappointed. This and Zelda were going to be the crowning jewels in my Wii U library and perfect swansongs. Still, I can transfer to the NS so it's not all bad.
@WKE - I think that makes a lot of sense. Playtonic also said that this game was created mainly for Nintendo users due to their roots and working with Nintendo in the past, or something or that nature. So why build a game for a Nintendo system for Nintendo users that it can't run on!!
@the8thark - Since Terranigma didn't release in US and A, having it in a list where we are voting on the US list of games would be a little pointless and doesn't make the poll flawed at all. Though I agree it is an amazing game.
Three votes!! Really???? SMW and Zelda will always be in any top x list, so with one vote left spare I decided to go with my next three - F-Zero, Actraiser and Super Metroid. But it's extremely difficult, most of the these games are equal favourites after SMW & Zelda.
I've read all the comments on this thread with great interest. There's at least twenty things I could say against the Bishop's comments, but instead of getting drawn into some debate or venting my annoyance with this sort of thing, the Bishop cements my opinion of religion, in all its forms. In that it is utter, utter, utter...bollocks.
A new Nintendo console without a fully fledged, preferably 3D, new Mario game would be very bad. You need software to sell a console and no game does that better than a unique Mario platformer.
They should also continue with Mario Maker and continue to build the community & service for both Wii U & NX to share but it shouldn't be the main Mario game.
Metroid, Pikmin 4, Mario 3D to start, then Spla2oon, F-Zero, Fire Emblem plus a properly good RPG a year later would be perfect.
The Wii was a slightly upgraded version of the Gamecube with a novalty novalty feature to appeal to casuals when the Gamecube was aimed at a traditional gamer. Now the NX appears to be pulling the same trick as the Wii. I disliked the Wii quite a lot and only kept it for six months.

@Rutana - it's ironic that out of Germany, France and the UK, Nintendo is least successful in the UK but the UK get the best deals. Perhaps though that's how it works.
Personally, perhaps I'm biased, but I think some of the best Nintendo fans are UK based, although from a global perspective we are a minority.
@Peach64 - agreed. 2016 E3 was not a vintage year, regardless of publisher, even sony's best game was one of last years biggies, and wasn't shown off to any great extent, though that GOW reveal was epic. At least there was some effort with Zelda.
From a Nintendo perspective, with NX just nine months away, it's logical that Nintendo wouldn't have much to show off, as much as I dislike that. They know they've got something special with BOTW, which they'll use for Wii u's swan song and give the the NX a massive kick start.
Personally, I'll get Zelda for the Wii U. It was originally designed for it and will be the crowning jewel in my Wii U library.

Re: Unreal Engine Powered F-Zero X Concept Astonishes, Goes Fast
"Would you like to have a new F-Zero on the Nintendo Switch?" - yes, yes I would. And throw in Pilot Wings as well while you're at it.
Although I've been loving Nintendo's output recently, some old franchises are in desperate need of a reboot.
Re: SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy Will Not Censor Risqué Costumes For Western Switch Release
