Genei Ibun Roku #FE - what was formally loosely called Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem - is getting increasingly close to its release in Japan. The Wii U title has had a long and rather peculiar development cycle, and though Nintendo is still promoting the game its title and prominence of Atlus as the named developer points to a drift away from the original crossover that fans may have had in mind.
Its bright and peculiar aesthetic is also quite far from the moody teaser logo of 2013, but nevertheless it is at least coming to the market. Ahead of that Japanese release there'll be marketing to promote it, which gives us more opportunities to see what its all about.
The latest videos, with that in mind, show off some cast members. First off we have Mamori Minamoto.
Next up is the bizarre Barry Goodman.
We're still not sure what to make of this, but it'll be intriguing to see how it performs in Japan.

Well, Barry has jumped up to being my favourite revealed character so far. Can't wait for this to come out and be butchered by Nintendo of America.
@EllenJMiller I'd be honest, I didn't expect them to go all-out and put an actual weeaboo in there.
11/11, would use over generic male lead, generic female lead, and generic sidekick.
Mamori is adorable, as to be expected, and I really do like the choice of class for her. Meanwhile, Barry Goodman is just pure awesomeness. I really hope he is playable, he doesn't appear to be, and yet at the time I believe some of those images showed him within the battle arena. I hope to see this answered soon.
I know what to make of this game; it looks fun! The 'bright and peculiar aesthetic' is pleasing to my eyes, and I love what I've seen of the battle system. Here's hoping for a UK release date soon, I want to know when I can finally play this game.
Aw man. Barry looks awesome. I just have to wonder if he'll be just Good or ar Great man?
@Tsurii That is wonderful to hear. I wonder what other information the famitsu scans have revealed; hopefully some of the sites will cover that soon.
I do wonder who his mirage is then. Not that it would make much difference to me, my Fire Emblem knowledge is hardly the greatest.
I was really looking to this game but the more I hear the music in it the less I like it.
I love Japanese games, Japan, the people and the culture, but not Japanese pop music. The music in this sounds utterly dreadful and I don't think I could stomach it, even if the game is fab.
When you ignore people whining because this game doesn't look like what they think a cross over should, or what game the original logo seemed to indicate, this begins to look like a pretty nice game.
And Barry is possibly the coolest character so far, also he behaves like a Sim, apparently...
SMT x Fire Emblem
Persona 5
Zelda U
Star Ocean V
Final Fantast XV
Most hyped games of 2016... Bring it!
can't they have a meeting to decide upon the English name for this game? GOD!
I've loved the wacky characters in SMT and Fire Emblem. I'm hoping they have a lot of quirky characters like this guy!
Hey, I wonder if they'll involve any characters from FE Fates, that would pretty sweet.
Weird. Other than maybe characterization, I see no resemblance to either series they're crossing over. Guess I havent played enough SMT titles
@EllenJMiller Please have dual audio when it gets localized...
I just need this game to come out. Don't need to import...must resist!!!
When they first showed off Minamoto I groaned thinking that they were just going to have her be a boring healer character, based off of her cute design. I was pretty happily proven wrong when she pulled out that axe though.
I'm not really sure what to think of Barry to be quite honest. He looks like a pretty fun character, but at the same time a little annoying...
Really can't wait for this game. Wii U is absolutely starving for JRPGs since third parties want nothing to do with the Wii U, and this is looking like a good one. Doesn't matter that it isn't a straight up crossover game since s taking influence from them both and implementing gameplay features in a smart way.
At the very least, I'm just glad it's not another casual, wannabe, hipster, etc. Fire Emblem game like Awakening and Fates.
@BertoFlyingFox
Gameplay takes influence from both, mostly from SMT but has FE elements like weapon triangle and weapon type.
God this looks soooooo good! Can't wait to get it!
Love all things Japanese
What is this game about anyway and what does it have to do with Fire Emblem. I get that its a crossover but since the FE font is the noticed one here, nothing seems to look like FE at all.
2016 is a good year for jRPGs.
Barry is my new lover! More games need cute bara guys <3 <3 <3
Can't we all just call it 'Persona Emblem' by now?
Looks crazy insane. I will probably enjoy it. I do hope we get a proper home console FE game though.....even if they just remaster the radiant games
Really excited for this. Just looks very out there; in a good way!
This character design, world design, music choice... Everything about this title has every indication of being a Persona spinoff title. I wonder why they didn't just call it a Persona title, instead of putting FE in the title... This isn't even close to having FE influences!
Can't wait for this game.
Just finished Persona 4, and playing Persona 3. This game will be must buy. Looks fantastic!
@Artwark It's not really a crossover in the common sense. They're combining different aspects from both series and making a lot of new gameplay stuffs so it can stand as it's own thing instead of sitting in both series' shadows.
@3DSWiiUFanatic Cool! Persona Q (the crossover game) is going to be on sale on the eShop starting on the 26th! You'll probably like it if you like both games. (Although it plays more like an Etrian Oddessy game)
I really really want to play this, but (and I never thought I would say this) I'm also nervous that Nintendo of America will pass on this or make it a digital only title. NoA, rather than make me excited for all things Nintendo, has done a good job of making me second guess my wishlist of games, especially since the Wii U isn't region-free.
Way to go NoA.
Totally pumped for this crazy game. Will be a day one purchase and will start when I'm finished with XCX.
