It's with great pride that we can reveal that Nintendo Life's Alex Olney has been announced as a finalist in the YouTuber category for the 2015 Games Media Awards. Taking place at the Bloomsbury Ballroom in London, the awards celebrate the best of games writing and the games media in the UK.
Under Alex's watch we've seen our YouTube channel grow rapidly to 55,000 subscribers in a short space of time. Subscribers have warmed to Alex's charming personality and his "Hello there lovely people" catchphrase. Producing a daily video is quite the undertaking, but Alex manages this with great aplomb.
It's quite the honour for Alex to make it as a finalist and it is a tribute to the hard work he's been putting in on our YouTube channel for the past year. While he's up against some still competition from YouTube heavyweights such as Matt Lees in his category, we're sure Alex will just be pleased to rub shoulders with the crème de la crème of UK games media.
We hope you will join with us in congratulating Alex on this fantastic achievement and wish him the best of British luck at the awards on Wednesday, October 14th at the Bloomsbury Ballroom in London.
We'll leave you with an example of what all the critics are raving about.

Well done Alex!! I don't get to see many of his vids since my internet is terrible, but I've always enjoyed what I have seen. Congratulations =)
Lol - Well done Alex!
Well done, Alex! The videos are always worth watching.
Congrats Alex!
Go Alex. Go Alex. Go Alex.
That pikimin poster is so cute. Also Alex have you thought of putting captions on your videos?
Eh? NL is doing stuff on YT?
Congrats Alex......I'm sure it is the ritualistic good bye wave that has won over the hearts and minds of the committee
Congratulations, Alex!
Well done, Alex.
I've enjoyed many of your videos.
"Yay"
Nice work, Alex!
Always look forward to his weekly updates that hit on Saturday's. They wouldn't be the same without them!
Well done, Alex!
Congrats and good luck!
GameXplain is better for Nintendo news and analysis, so I have always found NL's content to be redundant in comparison. I do still watch the content, though, and have seen Alex been factually wrong, in particular in his Ask Alex and Top 5 videos.
Given Alex's skills on the BMX, I can't wait for video of him in a tux on the dancefloor at the Bloomsbury Ballroom!
Congrats, Alex!
I've always found Alex's charm and wit fabulous to read and watch; a natural in front of the camera. Congrats.
Congratulations!
Now how about a top five video for Super Mario Maker levels by Nintendo Life readers?
Good luck Alex!
Good for him! I don't often get to watch Nintendo Life videos because I'm too busy with my own Nintendo website and YouTube channel, but I've really liked the ones I've watched. I was even in one a few weeks ago where Alex commented on my lack of video-worthy smash skill until I punched him in the face.
Quick question, where does he get all of those awesome posters?
Congrats, Alex. You videos are cool.
Nice one, always enjoy your videos, some deserved recognition. Good luck!
Well deserved,Congrats Alex,Fingers crossed that you win it.
WOW, they'll give awards to ANYBODY these days, it seems!!!!!!!
Lovely people deserve lovely things!
Well deserved. I love Alex's videos. Alway a pleasure to spend a few minutes with Mr. Olney every week
I've watch a few of his videos, and he definitely deserves it; congratulations!
Awesome! Well deserved, Alex!
Alex has done a great job for Nintendolife's youtube, and hope he continue's to do so. Good luck dude.
Congratulations Alex!
Ah, well done! :]
Yeah, Alex is great. It's all the more impressive when you consider there's not a great deal to talk about regarding Nintendo on a day to day basis. My only concern is that he usually seems a little drunk. Nintendo Lifes very own Des O'Connor at Eurovision, if you will. My wife thinks he looks like me to point that she refers to him as my cousin. So, congratulations to my lovely cousin Alex, I guess! (I have also been drinking).
Congrats Alex! I would vote for you, but even if you don't win the nomination is still high praise.
Congratulations you lovely person!
Alex, what are you pointing at? Enquiring minds need to know!
Congratulations!
Well deserved! I love watching the videos he makes, even more so than some of the more popular YouTube stars.
I always try to watch every video Alex puts up. The guy puts up quality content and I enjoy watching them, so keep it up bud!
Congrats Alex and good luck!!! I can't help but smile everytime I hear, "Hello there lovely people!" Keep up the great work!
Congratulations! It's an honor very much well deserved! We're all rooting for you to win.
I have great respect for the Games Media Awards, actually, and I can think of no one more deserving of the award than Alex this year.
Absolutely love this guy and look forward to his weekly video. Well done Alex you deserve it mate! All the best! I wish you the best of luck!
Cheers, Alex! I really do enjoy the NLife videos nowadays. Keep up the good work!
thats awesome!! =D
@manu0 Nintendo Life make articles just to showcase their latest videos. There's one of their YouTube videos in this very article.
@yuwarite such as?
Congratulations Mate. I hope you win it. You have been work on a lot of videos. And I believe you deserve it.
The "lovely people" catchphrase is kind of annoying, but I really enjoy most of the videos on the channel.
@OddworldCrash I kinda like the catchphrase, IMO. I think it suits Alex.
Congrats, Alex! I like his personality in the NLife vids. Hope Alex wins!
Great stuff. You are without a doubt one of the least nerdy people working at a Nintendo site.
Good Job Alex.......but you still didn't answer my question that I posted.
It's limited to people in the industry with YouTube channels, so it's a bit of a joke award.
