Re: Talking Point: The Argument For And Against amiibo-Cloning Tool Amiiqo

JaxxDuffer

Both guys made very good point for their camp. I do agree with Thomas 100% about piracy, and that far too many people out there have warped ideas on what they think they are entitled to.

Here's the thing though, Thomas is trying to compare apples and pears and so I think his argument is weak. The Amiiqo hasn't been born as a result of people getting something for nothing like downloading music or films, it's been born out of Nintendo's poor handling of Amiibo and scalpers taking advantage of the situation. Of course the whole scalper thing is another topic to debate. The Amiiqo is there because legitimate gamers can't get their hands on the original article, which is largely Nintendo's fault.

Does that make it right? Probably not, but it is understandable and I think acceptable, but only just.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Super Mario Maker Console Bundle and Key Release Dates for North America and Europe

JaxxDuffer

@VR32F1END - I'm in complete agreement. There is far too much whinging on the prices of games. The cost of PS4/XBOT games are a lot higher than Wii U, and when one considers inflation, Wii U games are darn cheap. I remember paying £39.99 for the very first Zelda game, Nintendo's flagship games are still that price. But I also appreciate different people have different budgets and may not be able to afford a lot of console games, but at least Nintendo provide the cheapest.

That being said, we UK gamers are fortunate that we don't have the ridiculous exclusive nonsense that the States have, where games & Amiibo are restricted to two stores, from what is reported on this site. The RRP for Nintendo games is £39.99 here in the UK, on Nintendo's official site, but they can be purchased a lot cheaper from other independent stores. However, I would gladly pay £39.99 for Nintendo's games if that was my only option - but just for retail.

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th August (Europe)

JaxxDuffer

I'm noticing the N64 VC is starting to look a little neglected. Plus where is FE: Radiant Dawn for the Wii VC? I'm also hoping for GC VC, which could mean all FE games can be played on the current gen of consoles, much like Zelda with the exception of Four Swords.

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th August (Europe)

JaxxDuffer

I was a little interested in Devil's Third, but Splatoon is still getting a lot of love and there's Yoshi still to play. Coming up we have SMM, Project Zero, Starfox and then Xenoblade all one month apart and all going to consume a fair amount of time. Sorry DV, but I can't see you getting much joy from me.

Re: Mario History: Super Mario Kart - 1992

JaxxDuffer

Until MK8 came along this was my favourite Mario Kart title. The fact that they slowed it down compared to F-Zero (which I love) added to the charm. Imagine my dismay when MK64 came along with its speed jacked up on steroids. It lost all that charm and ended up being quite rubbish. Times have changed and now that speed is necessary.

I'm surprised people found SMK difficult though, I found it easy. Perhaps being an F-Zero veteran, at the time, helped.

Re: Mario History: Super Mario World - 1991

JaxxDuffer

When SMMaker was first announced I was mildly interested. When they announced it would feature SMW my interest shot up ten fold.

Until recently I was undecided on the best Mario game, this or SM64. I've now come to the conclusion that SMW is the greatest Mario game, it's pure platforming perfection. It may not have been as ground-breaking as SMB3 but it betters it in every other imaginable way.

Re: Mario Memories: Super Mario Galaxy 2: A Tale of Hype and Expectation

JaxxDuffer

I thought Galaxy 1 was ok, for a Mario game, but Galaxy 2 beats it in every conceivable way. As has been mentioned, it's what a sequel should be like.

Still, SM64 rains supreme as the ultimate 3D Mario game. Even though it's a bit rough in places when playing it now, though I forgive that since it was one of the first Nintendo 3D games, the openness and freedom you felt just hasn't been matched, even with the Galaxy games superior graphics, sound and tighter controls.

Re: Nintendo's Awesome Super Mario Maker Overview Announces New Features

JaxxDuffer

@brandonbwii - you've basically said everything that I was thinking and was about to write.

Nine days to unlock everything is pathetic and does feel like a SS moment. Unlocking elements as one progresses through a game is common place in gaming and I see no reason why it shouldn't be applied here. Personally I would say that after the user builds five levels with toolset 1, toolset 2 opens and then build five more levels etc.

I totally agree with Splatoon as well. There are a number of reasons Nintendo did what they did and it hasn't been detrimental at all. In fact, the games success has far exceeded anybody's expectations, so it's hypocritical to criticise how they did it.

Re: Mario Memories: Being Taken To A New World In Super Mario Galaxy

JaxxDuffer

I didn't take to Super Mario Galaxy like I did with other Mario games, and I've been playing Mario games since the late 80s. Sunshine, although a great game in it's own right, didn't live up to SM64. Galaxy wasn't far from 64 but it still felt to me that Nintendo lost a little bit of magic. After the toned down casual boredom of Zelda TP I promptly sold my Wii and got a PS3.

Fast forward to 2012 and I got my Wii U a couple of months after launch and during the dry spell I purchased the Wii games I didn't get to play. SMG2 was/is amazing and is far superior to it's predecessor in every possible way.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Game Updates and DLC Are Fantastic, Albeit Starved of Attention

JaxxDuffer

The way Splatoon has been rolled out is nothing short of being fantastic. Agree that the content isn't DLC but rather unlocking the 'now' completed elements. Those who knock this approach are just ignorant.

Splatoon was released at a time, especially for the Americans as us Europeans and the Japanese got Yoshi a short time ago, when if it wasn't released it would've been yet another dry release spell of three or four months. This would've meant even more complaining of "Nintendo failing their customers" doom and gloom. Also Nintendo is well aware of SMM coming out in September and wants to give it as much attention as possible. Plus they are also "dipping" their toe in the on-line shooter scene and it's understandable while they've been a little cautious. So releasing it when they did, although missing content was a genius strategy.

MK8 has also been done brilliantly. DLC1 got a lot of attention from me but DLC2 less so as Splatoon came around only a month later.

I'm not the biggest Smash fan in the world and have no interest in the DLC. But paying £x for little costumes and extra fighters stinks of the usual corporate DLC crap that EA etc. put out.

On the whole Nintendo is on the right track with DLC, as long as they stick with the MK8 & Splatoon formula.

Re: Nintendo Download: 30th July (Europe)

JaxxDuffer

Possibly Legend of Kay, but only on retail. The discount on Elliot Quest is intriguing.

@brandonbwii - Nothing that troll ever says is true. He's full of Nintendo hatred who uses ridiculously pointless weak arguments to back up his claims, wrapped around exceedingly long posts to make out his knowledge of gaming his superior to everyone else's.

Re: Five Wii U Sequels We Need on the Nintendo NX

JaxxDuffer

With one exception I wholeheartedly agree with this list. A Mario Kart is dead cert to appear on the NX, as well as Smash, so I wouldn't include these. Personally, I would swap MK for something that should've arrived on the Wii U and hasn't. One of these would be ideal...

F-Zero
Pilotwings
Kid Icarus
Paper Mario
A true successor to Mario64 - or another open world Mario game.

Re: Latest Splatoon Splatfest Results Are In, Eating And Roller Coasters Emerge Victorious

JaxxDuffer

Got back home late Sunday afternoon from a weeks holiday but managed to squeeze in a couple of Splatfest hours before it finished. Got with a team where we pretty much stayed together until the end and we won all but two games out of twenty five, and all against the Sleep enemy. Go team eat.

It was by far the best session of Splatoon I've had. The Splatfests have a great balance of being very competitive but not disastrous if you lose. Although the scoring could do with some fine tuning. Can't wait for the next one.

Re: Prototype SNES PlayStation Found In The Wild, Unicorn And Big Foot Expected Next

JaxxDuffer

@MightyKrypto - Well 'm a gamer and Nintendo is always my first choice. Even if I was the only person in the world doing this you would be wrong to make that assumption. But I think it's safe to say I'm not the only person who has a Nintendo as their first choice of consoles and that a Nintendo is their only choice of consoles. We don't all buy every console out there.

And what about the 55million ish 3DS owners? Do they all own a Sony/Xbox/PC combo as well, and make the 3DS their third choice?

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes Director Defends Absence of Female Playable Characters

JaxxDuffer

When I play Metroid I expect to play as Samus, when I play Bayonetta I expect to play as Bayonetta, when I play Splatoon I can choose (and I chose the girl) and when I play Zelda I expect to play as Link. The game is what it is designed to be. Why these stupid and pointless debates keep appearing is a mystery to me.

I completely disagree with the author, this isn't a valid topic. What is a valid topic is when the lead role is male dominated or when women are poorly represented. To say that Link should have the option to be changed to a female is PC nonsense gone mad. Perhaps I should write to Disney and ask then to have Snow White re-written as a man and the seven dwarfs as lady dwarfs.

Re: Hands On: Logging More Flight Time With Star Fox Zero

JaxxDuffer

@Kirk - I completely agree with wanting a new Starfox game and not a "re-imagined" version of a game that's been released three times in different forms before, I had a debate on this yesterday. However, I don't agree on the Uncharted 4 example as a means of progression. Yes U4 looks stunning and all those graphical features will enhance the experience, but at the core it's just a prettier version of Uncharted 1,2 & 3. This just shows a lack of creativity and imagination, and that all they can do to improve the game is through the use of horsepower and someone with a paintbrush. This approach will eventually backfire as games become boring, dull and predictable.

Look at Mario 3D platformers. They've constantly changed and evolved over the years and always stay fresh. Of course elements are re-used throughout the series but each game is unique and special.

If Nintendo could apply that Mario 3D magic to Starfox then they would be onto a winner.

Re: Nintendo Says That Star Fox Zero's Gyro Controls Can Be Turned Off

JaxxDuffer

@JaxonH - there is far too much negativity around, agreed on that. I think you're also right on Nintendo slowly winding down the Wii U. The fact that E3 only concentrated on 2015 games whereas the 3DS included 2016 titles, plus the "re-imagining" of Starfox; a brand new title would take six to twelve months extra development, are all signs pointing to this.

Though right now, nothing is getting a look in while I'm playing Splatoon and unless I get bored with it over the next five months SFZero won't get a look in either.

Re: Nintendo Says That Star Fox Zero's Gyro Controls Can Be Turned Off

JaxxDuffer

@JaxonH - clearly you don't get it so let me explain.

SF64 is a remake of the SNES classic. SF64 is then ported and freshened up on 3DS. Now Starfox Zero is a "re-imagined" version of SF64. I'm all for having a Starfox game using the gamepad and gyro controls in the same mould as SF64. But reusing the same levels, voice acting, enemies etc. just seems like they're concentrating so much on the gamepad features that they've forgotten about everything else. So "shoe horning" is an accurate description. Personally, the graphics issue doesn't bother me.

I love Stafox and super excited for it, but I don't want to play the same game for the forth time with different controls and a few extra features.

Re: Review: Yoshi's Woolly World (Wii U)

JaxxDuffer

@AshFoxX - Don't forget Shin Megami Tensei IV, and was only released on the eShop.

@PinkSpider - And currently 6 is the lowest score on Metacritic. After the ridiculous review gamespot did of DKCTF there credibility is at an all time low.

Re: Nintendo Is A Slave To Its Past Success, Says Gearbox President Randy Pitchford

JaxxDuffer

Nintendo are in a bit of sticky patch as they are trying catering to their core base, but only just, and are at least attempting new things, IE Splatoon, but they don't go far enough. They are lacking in some areas and could do with some fresh ideas, but to say they don't innovate or lacking new ideas when the rest of the industry is even worse is just plain ignorant. A lot of the games revealed at E3 from all publishers were just updates and glorified versions of past games. Doom looked fantastic but it just another FPS. They're remaking FFVII. Microsoft are copying backwards compatibility. Uncharted 4 is Uncharted 1,2 & 3 but slicker with nicer graphics...I could go on. Only the Skyman game really looked to be something new.

Nintendo's biggest problem is that the appeal of their games doesn't reach the casual crowd, who are hell bent on FPS games, destruction & violence. Their marketing is awful and excuses with working with HD is now wearing thin. Their attempt with Starfox is poor. The inferior graphics is acceptable and using gyro controls with the Gamepad screen is exciting and worth exploring but the biggest issue for me is the "reimagining" of Starfox 64. That's just pure laziness, it's like their trying to justify the Gamepad but shoehorning it into an old game. Using the 64's audio is also poor, although this could've done just for demo. Although I do think the Gamepad is great.

Nintendo shouldn't ditch their core franchises, but they should be careful on how often they release them. Mario does appear far too much and not enough is seen of their other ones, Metroid, Pilotwings, F-Zero etc. They should bring on more developer studios to branch out their portfolio in areas where Nintendo is simple not great at. There needs to be more games with more variety so that different gamers with different tastes will buy their consoles.
