Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Donkey Kong Country Returns HD?

JaketheArbok

@Max_the_German
The game isn’t a bad game because Nintendo is charging $60 for a 2D game.
This current release of DKC Returns is bad because charging $60 for a poorly-remastered Wii game is not a good business practice.
To follow your example, if Nintendo put a slightly upscaled version of DKC3 on the N64 for full price, it would also be a bad release and be lampooned at the time and today because it would not be a good business decision.
I haven’t played DKC Returns, but I’m sure that I would enjoy it, albeit probably slightly less than Tropical Freeze, which is one of my favorite games of all time. 2D platformers are some of my favorite games in general. But this release fundamentally is not worth the asking price.

Re: Feature: 8 Games That Defined The Switch Generation

JaketheArbok

Yeah I think Smash is a better rep over Hollow Knight to represent the Switch’s lifespan because so much of being a Nintendo fan from 2018-2021 was speculating about Smash. While there are a lot of great Metroidvanias that came to Switch, there are a lot of great Metroidvanias on a bunch of consoles. I think Hades edges in a spot just because of how prolific the roguelike has become as a genre in recent years, in large part due to how well this game meshes with the Switch’s portability.

Re: Nintendo's Punch-Out!! Series May Be Dead And Buried For Good

JaketheArbok

I don’t really buy this, as it’s not like Nintendo has distanced themselves from the Punch-Out series. Both the NES and SNES titles are on NSO, and plenty of the characters in their Wii format are spirits in Smash.
If some of the more iffy caricatures were removed or smoothed out, I don’t think anyone would complain.
It would also require the general public to notice an element of Punch-Out besides Tyson, so I think we’re okay.

Re: Palworld Developer Details Patent Infringement Claims From Nintendo's Lawsuit

JaketheArbok

The minimal amount that Nintendo is suing Pocketpair for seems to help prove the theory that this is more about sending a message to Sony that they could win a legal battle if they tried to make Palworld into a Pokemon-challenging franchise than just a simple copyright suit.
If Nintendo really does have these patents, they could tackle just about any Pokemon-like on the market, but they just seem to want Sony to back down.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Super Mario Party Jamboree

@Max_the_German
It’s okay to think that a review that makes no sense is stupid, nobody is saying that they’re paid off or whatnot. Just don’t review a game you know you’re not gonna like. If I was a reviewer, I wouldn’t review an open world game because I don’t like the feeling of being lost in a game, although I know many who do. Likewise, there’s been around 20 MP games if you include handhelds, you kinda know what to expect when you play it, and maybe handing the review off to someone who actually enjoys a slightly luck-based party game (I know there are people like that bc these games sell crazy every time) is the best strategy. Maybe don’t review a pizza place if you hate cheese.

Re: Poll: Do You Prefer Fire Emblem: Three Houses Or Engage?

JaketheArbok

Only played Engage, but, as I can barely tolerate the life sim-stuff in that game, I don’t think I’d like Three Houses.
Focusing more on the story stuff is probably a good business direction for the series (3H sold unreasonably well) but I hope they can trim the fat a little bit and make stories that please everyone, because to a lot of people, Fire Emblem was a simple, no-nonsense fantasy RPG that focused on excellent strategic combat before it all went away suddenly. I think Engage’s gameplay with a better, more grounded story and non-intrusive life/dating sim elements would be the best Fire Emblem game for everyone. Fire Emblem means different things to many different people, and to make another one that everyone enjoys would be walking a razor-thin tightrope.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Luigi's Mansion 2 HD

JaketheArbok

Can somebody give me the argument for Dark Moon as the best game in the series? Haven’t played 1, but that is the peak for most people in terms of replayability and atmosphere, and I’d say 3 definitely has the best puzzle design and bosses, what does Dark Moon bring to the table?

Re: Review: Luigi's Mansion 2 HD (Switch) - The Best Version, But Lacks Extras To Make It Essential

JaketheArbok

If you haven’t played Dark Moon and loved 3, this is a good game to get, just temper your expectations that it won’t do anything as good as 3 imo.
But if you have, like me, then why would you get this? I’m genuinely at a loss on this one. It looks marginally better, I guess, but otherwise it’s not setting the world on fire.
This really should have been $50 at most

Re: Palworld Boss Says A Switch Release Could Be "Hard" Due To Technical Reasons

JaketheArbok

Yeah, if Nintendo was really concerned about copyright from Palworld they would have tried a long time ago, so otherwise, does anyone really think there is any quality control going on in what games are allowed onto Nintendo platforms?
This is the eshop that has shovelware within the first few rows of the deals section pretty much every time.
The game would genuinely run awful if it came to Switch, from the footage I saw it’s being held together by duct tape and rubber bands at this point anyway.

Re: Poll: So, Have You Finished Pokémon Legends: Arceus Yet?

JaketheArbok

@Not_Soos
I really think that if the draw of just roaming around and catching Pokemon in random encounters and battiling random trainers doesn’t grab you, then you might just not enjoy the older games. The story kind of supplements the experience, but it’s not going to wow you, in fact, I’d say Scarlet/Violet is probably the best you’re going to get in that department. The appeal for me always came from the ownership of the Pokémon, and building them up to become a strong team, and that doesn’t necessarily fly if you don’t already have nostalgia for the series. I would recommend giving the Mystery Dungeon games a try (I’m partial to Super on 3DS myself, but I’ve heard good things about Rescue Team) because those games, while having a slightly different gameplay loop and also being a bit grindy, do supplement that loop with dynamic, fun stories.
