Re: Nintendo Sets Its Sights On Switch Emulator Yuzu In New Lawsuit

JaketheArbok

@JNolan93
I can understand it if that’s the goal, but if you are making a means for people to commit piracy on a current console, unintentionally or not, you’re going to get some pushback. I don’t know what the lawsuit entails, but if it’s just shutting the emulator down, I don’t think it kills the general public to wait 5 or so years before we get 60FPS TOTK.

Re: Square Enix To Slim Down Its Gaming Lineup To Ensure Higher Quality

JaketheArbok

@KingMike
I’m not in any way suggesting that pixel art is worse; I just got done with the Live a Live remaster and I loved it, just as I’m sure I will with Triangle Strategy and the Octopath games. The point is, that when so many of these very similar games come out, it really dilutes the waters in terms of what I might buy, and I think that might be the reason Square’s going in this direction.

Re: Soapbox: "Go Outside, Get Some Fresh Air" - Why Won't Outmoded Gamer Stereotypes Die?

JaketheArbok

I think it’s as easy as pointing out how long a critic spends on TV or cell phones to notice a disparity. There is nothing about video games that makes them any different than any form of electronic media, and it’s just tiring at this point to see it repeated over and over again.

That being said, if someone has a problem, it needs to be addressed in the same way that addiction to any other form of media needs to be addressed. This was not one of those times, however.

I think I‘ll always love Dudunsparce just for the fact that Game Freak saw everyone wanting something else with the Dunsparce line and gave them the ultimate monkey’s paw.

As for actual answers, I do really like Quaxly and Greavard, the designs of the new mons are generally really good with the exception of the easy punching bag of Flamigo.

Re: Sea Of Stars Developer Sabotage Replacing 'The Completionist' NPC

JaketheArbok

@PinderSchloss
Everyone here defending Jirard seems to be ignoring the fact that most of this criticism could all go away if he took responsibility for his actions, and so far, he has not. It’s that simple. I was a fan of his up until then, and I felt for him right up to the point where he threatened to sue anyone that noticed his inability to donate money to charity.
Most of Jirard’s remaining fans see his personality on the Internet as a nice, wholesome guy who talks about video games and assume that saves him from criticism, but it does not.

Re: Sea Of Stars Developer Sabotage Replacing 'The Completionist' NPC

JaketheArbok

I knew I’d be disappointed with at least some of the comments here, and I was correct.

“Oh, no, the poor, wholesome man might get mean comments after his little mistake.”

The guy lied to people about where their money was going, and by his own admission didn’t let go of it until people cracked down on him to sell it, no matter how he spins it in his video. Not only that, but he still hasn’t paid all of it off, with inflation and all of the stream money that he earned not going anywhere. He had so many chances to apologize and salvage his career, but instead doubled down on his claims and even threatened legal action on people he was just previously begging not to tell on him.

Excellent call by the devs, and this honestly helped remind me to give Sea of Stars a try.

Re: Review: Born Of Bread (Switch) - An Enjoyable, If Underbaked, Paper Mario Homage

JaketheArbok

@the_beaver
Just a pun about Born of Bread being buggy lol. I really enjoyed Bug Fables, the characters and writing, as well as the combat were really solid. The humor doesn’t get any better if you’re not into that style, but the combat improves a lot later on in the game, as well as the optional objectives.There was a couple points where you could tell it’s an indie game, but it’s a great time for someone that’s never played the original or TTYD, so I can’t really remark on that.

Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder Scores Best Family Game At The Game Awards

JaketheArbok

@DwaynesGames
I have heard decent things about that and Sonic Superstars, but I feel like we’re talking about 7-8/10 games versus a 9 or 10. Pikmin 4 is also excellent from what I’ve heard, but it’s a combination of slightly niche and not really a family game in the sense that the family can all play together. It should win best strategy game, though.

Re: Talking Point: What Are The Worst Parts Of Your Favourite Games?

JaketheArbok

My favorite game is Super Mario 3D World because nostalgia, but I would have to say that getting all three stars in Piranha Plant Creek After Dark is terrible. How precise you have to be with your Fire Flower throws compared to the wonky depth perception makes it the one part of the game I dislike replaying in a game where its biggest strength is its consistency.

Re: Random: Players Are Recreating Mario Wonder's Musical Moments In Mario Maker 2

JaketheArbok

There are so many thing in Mario Wonder that I swear were inspired by Mario Maker levels; from the direct things, like the multiplayer death sounds, multiple checkpoints in one level, or the star run levels; to things like the Jump Jump Jump climbing level, which would have fit perfectly as a Mario Maker level. I think the Mario Maker series was a time for Nintendo to look at what fans did with Mario, and create new ideas with it, and that’s part of how the game became so successful.

Re: Best Mario RPGs Of All Time

JaketheArbok

Dream Team, Paper Jam, and BIS are all way too low (BIS especially is objectively better than Superstar Saga), but they’re all great games, and you can’t go wrong no matter what you pick.
Edit: Except Sticker Star

Re: Zelda: TOTK And Mario Wonder Land GOTY Nominations At The Game Awards 2023

JaketheArbok

It probably won’t win because the story and side stuff are not good in the slightest, but Engage’s gameplay is some of the best gameplay I’ve seen in an RPG, and managed to get me into a franchise that I don’t think Three Houses would have sold me on the same way.
Nintendo has had a pretty great year in a year where not much has been released, so they should do well here.

Re: UK Charts: Mario Wonder Soars As WarioWare Lands With A Whimper

JaketheArbok

@rockodoodle
You have to be really niche or a really poor game for a Nintendo-published title to sell less than a million units on Switch. It’s still nothing to sneeze at, but one would think that a game starting a member of the Mario cast marketed around multiplayer could sell slightly better. Additionally, it came out during somewhat of a lull period for both Nintendo-published games and games in general. Get it Together is a good game in my opinion, I’m really just talking about sales.

Re: UK Charts: Mario Wonder Soars As WarioWare Lands With A Whimper

JaketheArbok

I just had a feeling about Warioware. Get it Together sold relatively poorly, Everybody 1-2 Switch did even worse, and when you have a game that to the average consumer is a combination of the two, after so many minigame collections have released on Swittch, during a year when so many GOTY candidates have come out, especially in the past couple of months, and the game is DOA, regardless of quality.
