Lol hysterically at that dudes rant up top about us being entitled. What a goof.
It's 2019 for god sakes. The cost of entry is irrelevant. Even if it was free it would still be inadequate.
Barebones peer to peer networking that results in unplayable lag is not acceptable. The rest of the industry went through all the growing pains already. We shouldn't have to suffer through it again.
Nintendo can take their barely working NES emulator and stick it. I want to hear about improvements to the games I bought to play online not cheap 8 bit asset flips.
They knew darn well their online wasn't worth the asking price so yes...im afraid my subscription is in fact, paying for drip fed 8bit titles.
And I will criticize it as much as I want because it's laughably anti consumer to ask people in 2019 to pay money to access peer to peer network functionality in games they already paid for.
The only way a company can charge you to play online is if they provide the dedicated servers running the actual games. Otherwise it's a fake cash grab. There's no monetary overhead with peer to peer networking, it should be free.
The ability for multiple devices to connect to one another isn't worth money. It's the ability for all those devices to connect to a central server hosting the game that's worth the money.
The sooner the average Nintendo consumer gets educated, the better. Nothing about their online offering is of any tangible real world value.
This is how you carefully transition video game characters to live action film. With modern technology and skilled artists.
Now let's see that new sonic redesign. The existing one is almost laughable in comparison to pikachu. The disparity between talent is enormous between these 2 projects.
The Pokemon designs are fantastic and look exactly like we would expect them to and the art style meshes well with live action. The sonic trailer on the other hand.....looked like a high school project made in blender/after effects.
Oh no. Mk11 effectively amounts to essentially an asset flip of the same terrible formula since the last iteration.
What exactly are these people whining about? That they had to touch up some textures from MK10? They were forced to design idiotic skins to peddle in their cash shop?
I don't feel sorry for people that lack the self respect and willingly take part in these slimy projects. It's no secret how Warner brothers does business. You made your own beds...lie in them. A texture artist is as much to blame as a design lead. They willingly accepted the work and contributed to another microtransaction filled pile of garbage.
Getting tired of this spin. No one's forcing anyone to do anything. None of these artists or writers etc are being held hostage. And it isnt exactly a secret how the companies they choose to work for operate.
I love bayonetta 1 and 2. So I'm game for whatever they cook up.
If there's one thing I would change it's how the combat encounters are structured. I'm not a huge fan of encounters being self contained instances for the sake of tallying a high score. I think the game would flow better if it was all connected and more organic.
"VR" barely works on far better hardware as it is. I don't think anyone educated in the matter expected this not to suck.
I mean if it's a similar technique that we saw in the 3ds then it's trash. The 3D slider lived in perpetual off position because the 3D was an atrocious migraine inducing feature. Just another in a long line of forced gimmicks that uneccesarily increased the cost.
Hopefully they can realize what a wasted effort this is and double down on some real game releases. But I doubt it. So many numpties buying cardboard goggles.
Awesome. Let's have a professional esports scene for our top selling multiplayer title but release it with peer to peer networking that results in an unplayable slideshow.
I wonder how anyone is expected to practice or get good if the games primary mode runs like it's the 90s.
Honestly thought Jim Carrey had more self respect. Who on earth would sign a deal for this film after seeing the pitch?
All the cgi just looks amateurish.
It's almost like some of these actors actually enjoy trolling fans or they simply don't even know anything about the source material their agents signed them up for.
It's pretty embarrassing if that's the best the Hollywood machine could do. Sonic looked better in 16 bit lol.
The guy is an industry veteran. You honestly think he's truly stumped by the battery issue? You honestly think he can't afford a new one or have access to one? C'mon.
It was a way to publicly criticise Nintendo and raise awareness. Not everyone out in game land is susceptible to Nintendos shill media partners' spin.
Even with a brand new fresh unit the battery life is abysmal. You can turn it on and stare at the home screen for 3 seconds and be down to 98%.
The machine is a terrible home console. And a terrible handheld. Which equates to a mediocre hybrid system. It works but it isn't nearly as awesome as the media makes it out to be.
It's a tennis game for crying out loud. Tennis.....lets make a game that depicts a pass time of rich kids, slap Mario in it, and sell it for 80 bucks, realize no ones buying it, instead of a real price drop, they do the ol free demo routine.
If they gonna do sports. At least pick a sport that people can relate to. Tennis isn't worth 80 dollars plus a subscription.
The thing isn't old enough for a new version. It would just cheapen everyone's purchase of the original if they announced a pro version. It would erode trust in the platform. People have to realize that not everyone jumped in on launch day. Some of us just bought one.
Could care less about the lower end one. Though it is a nice idea for kids and families. The switch is the most expensive gaming system on the market. Which I find hilarious because it's also the weakest and has the worst library. Pretty hard to justify 500 bucks for a system that's no more powerful than last gen for a child or toddler. Even more so since the games targeted at children like yoshi are overpriced.
This is the hardware, api and specs they wanted to launch with and it's already overpriced for what it is. Time to own it and improve what's there.
Even hinting at a pro version is insulting. Because we know how Nintendo does business. They'll release a version with all the missing features that should have been there in 2017 and then ask even more for it.
Would i like a real console from Nintendo for once? Absolutely. But not 3 months after I settled for their current weak offerings.
When companies post earning reports in the double digit billions, I don't tend to agree with the rising cost of game development. Sorry. As a consumer I will never feel sorry for a faceless corporation while I struggle to make ends meet.
It doesn't cost anymore to draw a tree in 2019 than it did 20 years ago. Polygons are polygons. The costs are entirely self imposed through expensive marketing campaigns and poor management.
Teams of indie developers on shoe string budgets have proven that mentality to be wrong many times.
That being said, is anyone surprised by this ? It's Warner brothers. They're the worst of the bunch in terms of aggressive monetization. WB logo should have been enough to warn anyone.
And who cares about a review? It's already been reviewed elsewhere and poorly due to monetization. What could you possibly add? It's overpriced loot box fodder hidden behind a popular ip. Doesn't matter if the game is any good. The business model should be enough to warn your readers.
Price is an issue too imo. At least in my country.
80 for the game + 25 a year for online. So that's 105 bucks plus taxes to hop in to an older game. Whose primary playlist consists of 1 single game mode.
And that's before we even start breaking down all the missing features and analyze performance.
Nintendos online offerings couldn't be any more inaccessible.
If only Nintendo would worry about releasing games in a more timely fashion instead of worrying about fan projects on a platform that was obsolete 30 yrs ago.....
Everyone's saying how "Nintendo is killing it" with quality game releases but I don't see them. 90% of their first party offerings are from 2017 and are mostly wiiU ports.
The last thing they released was smash. And it's yet another port.
When people say they want indie support, this is what they mean. Nintendo can't flip their own IPs fast enough so work with indies. No one ever wanted a bunch of cheap shovelware with the production values of a mobile game clogging up the eshop.
Why not hand pick a few of the best indie devs and liscence nintendo ips to them? They're just gathering dust under Nintendos leadership.
They showed me a playing field with a million things going on and then proceeded to give me a text based tutorial.
/Delete
Going to have to put in a lot more effort than a cheap text popup to teach me your game. Especially considering it's f2p and will eventually ask for your credit card.
Considering it's a way better developed and polished product than 99% of indie tripe on the eshop, id say it's pretty essential. Even more so considering it's fair price point.
Also, Nintendo isn't bringing us good games fast enough. If their competitors are willing to port games over, we should support it.
It sucks we have to settle for our library being bolstered by another platform's exclusives, but it's better than nothing.
Great game. Many hours spent on pc. Wouldn't touch the switch version until digital extremes enables account merging and cross progression. Currently they are quadruple dipping off of 4 platforms.
Dear fanbots, please justify the price tag for an older indie game that's cheaper on other platforms and obviously runs better.
No, portability doesn't count as a "feature" it's a caveat.
All these ports have to be slimmed down to even work on the switch resulting in an inferior version of the game. Charge accordingly for them.
Also a day 1 patch is stupid for a game that had already been sent off for certification. Test better.
It's almost like certification is now a 2 step process:
bare minimum to get approved by Nintendo.
then the day 1 patch to get approval from the actual consumers.
I think there should be a rule that if you don't have release parity, you don't get to sell the game for full price 2-3 years later.
This trend is tiring. "No there won't be a switch version. The game won't run on switch." 2 years later...."oh hi. Here's that game that wouldn't run...for 10 dollars more than the original versions that run butter"
It's easy to hop on the bandwagon and blame devs but.... What are the alternatives If the entire game won't fit on Nintendos cartridges?
All the shortcomings of Nintendos design decisions are finally starting to show. All the concessions that were made to accommodate a hybrid gimmick are starting to hit home. The complete and utter lack of horsepower and standard features will ensure a lack of third party support.
People's insistence on not recognizing that the shortcomings of this platform rest squarely on nintendo, is a huge part of the problem. They get a free pass.
We also can't expect these companies to make a special version for the weakest hardware from the ground up.
The expectations should fall on Nintendo. Remember that giant image they released leading up to launch? The one with 100 logos of developers that had allegedly pledged their support for the platform? Where they at?
Could not have cared less.
Spirits are just a cheap way to add a layer of rpg-lite to the adventure mode.
The whole spirit thing just seems like content padding to me anyways.
A more in depth explanation would not have had any impact on the end result.
This really ought to put it into perspective. They didn't have time or resources to add the descriptions for tiny throw away content. They also didnt take the time to make the game work properly online.
For 80 bucks plus 25 a year to access online and people are going to cry about absent descriptor text while the core experience is still a broken peer to peer mess at the time of writing this?
Honestly folks. Let's prioritize the important things and let dedicated communities fill in the blanks. They did a fine job. Nintendo has adult problems to deal with.
Was about to say the same thing. Why wasn't it released at the same time as other consoles?
Why does Nintendo allow their platform to be home to sloppy second ports from other platforms and then let them charge full price or more for the late switch version?
This is the reason none of these companies are making games specifically for the hardware. They know they can downscale and flip old games for full price.
Judging by all the positive remarks in these comments on a daily basis, my peers seem to be ok with it. Mediocrity prevails when you don't demand better.
Depends on what your definition of good games are i suppose. Some indies that no one's heard of, the 809th overpriced final fantasy flip and a port of a 2 year old walking sim aren't exactly anything to get excited about.
That being said though, at least senua has some pedigree and production values behind it and is being priced accordingly.
Nintendo should be careful with their massaging here.
Does the average nintendo consumer even realize that this isn't real "VR"? I mean the current implementation of VR isn't even really VR. It's just a headmounted display with head tracking. Not really A "virtual reality".
Strapping a cardboard pair of goggles on doesn't magically make the switch's hardware VR capable. If it were that easy, we wouldn't need oculus, vive, psvr etc.
Nintendo should worry about its lack of first party game output and utter lack of 3rd party quality games. Put the faux VR cardboard on the backburner and make some bloody games.
Games media loves to report when Phil Spencer travels to Japan to court Japanese publishers. Why don't we ever hear about some Nintendo suit traveling West to do the same?
They aren't putting in a big enough effort for year 3 of their new toy.
Doesn't matter where they exist. Whether it's held back on the cutting room floor, already in the code or simply a conceptual drawing on an artist's desk.
The fact that this is the business model in the first place is the problem. I blame my gaming peers and casuals for buying into it.
They're going to have to do way better with this app. $25 a year for an emulator that suffers from horrible flickering and artifacting. Ya naw. This is the quality you'd expect from a free emulator not a paid one from the official source. Lol
Or you could try and convince yourself that the 25 is going towards opening up some ports and allowing people to connect via peer to peer. Because that's totally worth it. Right?
Smash bros is selling super well....meanwhile in reality, it's the laggiest most unplayable game. A simple 1v1 is a slideshow. Terrible network performance is unforgivable considering the simplistic nature of smash.
If these companies want billions of dollars annually to let us play games we already paid for, they should at the very least, be expected to provide a dedicated server system.
I'll pay for online if I'm guaranteed a < 30 ms dedicated server with region locking and ping filtering for every single online title. Until then I won't pay for it. I'll simply go back to other platforms.
Funny how that works. My friend and I are polar opposites with Mario. He's a retro purist and I'm more interested in seeing it evolve. Mario 64 was it for me. Once I was shown a 3rd dimension, there was no going back.
I would absolutely love to see this series evolve into 3 dimensions as well. I'd never want to see it cannibalize or replace the 2d version but a separate spin off would be welcomed.
Not only have I never seen it on sale either, the cheapos don't bundle bayonetta 1 with bayo 2 unless you buy physical.
Just another example of why digital storefronts will never be able to compete with retail. We can't ever take advantage of overstock or poor sales numbers. It's all just copy and paste of an exe. Bad reviews and bad sales somehow don't ever translate to better prices in the digital space.
Especially considering it's the worst version of the game. But because the Nintendo platform is starved for triple A quality offerings, they can get away with it.
I don't think it was intentional either. I highly doubt any higher up at Nintendo wants their platform and eshop sullied with low tier pixel games.
Just cheapens the entire platform and decreases the value of the console.
Nintendo needs to get their hardware on par with the competition. If it was we wouldn't be talking about shovelware indie games.
I dunno what they're scared of. Release a proper console that can compete with Xbox and ps4. Then you can have it all. They certainly arent saving us any money by cheaping out on hardware. The switch, it's accessories and games are all more expensive than the competituon.
Supposed to be the games setting them apart not what's under the hood. But when all we get are first part wiiu ports and a plethora of shovelware, you really have to ask if the hardware is even worth what they're asking.
It's a first party game so it sells for 80 bucks.....if the games too easy for the average joe, then who is the demographic here? Young kids don't need 80 dollar versions of yoshi. So who is this even for?
Fun is irrelevant when you can wrap the game in a couple sittings. The problem isn't the lack of a harder difficulty. It's that these games aren't being priced according to the content they deliver And more importantly for the age group they're targeting.
Don't want to include a mode that makes the game worth the asking price? Then don't be surprised when people pass on your overpriced game.
Never tell people how to play your game or how to have fun. You don't get to dictate that.
I actually saw someone on another site trying to compare this to the Sekiro shadows die twice easy mode drama. It's not even remotely the same thing.
Difficulty = more time spent = more satisfying and more value. Easier difficulties have the exact opposite effect. As is evidenced by people questioning the premium price for what amounts to a child's game.
This game looks average at best. Maybe a rental. Hardly worth getting upset about. Bethesda is a terrible company and it shows in their games and business models.
I don't mind an all digital future, so long as the pricing is right. There's no need to pay full price for what amounts to a copy and paste of an exe. It becomes even less valuable when these companies flip a magic switch the next gen and those digital games no longer work.
It's going to become increasingly difficult for Nintendo to try and tell us that we have to keep buying these games again and again. There's really no excuse that modern hardware can't run these games....with ease. Some of these retro games weigh in the megabytes. There's no excuse and it's downright criminal to abuse nostalgia and exclusivity to peddle 8bit games for 10000% markup.
But I guess Nintendo has to do something to maintain the perception that the switch has a healthy and steadily growing library. By greenlighting every piece of shovelware and overpriced nostalgic cash grabs they can.

I think there should be a rule that if you don't have release parity, you don't get to sell the game for full price 2-3 years later.
This trend is tiring. "No there won't be a switch version. The game won't run on switch."
2 years later...."oh hi. Here's that game that wouldn't run...for 10 dollars more than the original versions that run butter"
K thx.
Re: Bethesda Confirms Wolfenstein: Youngblood Will Include A Download Code Instead Of A Game Card
Re: Evercade Is A Brand New Cartridge-Based Handheld Console Which Connects To Your TV
Why not just put a sponsored tag on this? It reads an awful lot like a sponsored article. Complete with hyperbolic click bait title.
When you have the balls to use a title like that, you better have some meaty details to back it up in the article.
Nope. Just talk. No specs, no games, no pricing. But it's going to rival the system upon which you've dedicated your site?
What the actual.......?
Re: Fans Create Website With Descriptions For All Smash Bros. Ultimate Spirits

Re: God Eater 3 Hacks And Slashes Its Way To Switch This July
@Zorox88
Re: Nintendo Download: 11th April (North America)
@Painkiller_Mike
Re: Feature: 10 Games We’d Like To See Come To Labo VR
Re: Mortal Kombat 11 Day-One Patch Will Be More Than Double The Size Of Base Game, Says Data Miner
@MagnaRoader
Doesn't matter where they exist. Whether it's held back on the cutting room floor, already in the code or simply a conceptual drawing on an artist's desk.
The fact that this is the business model in the first place is the problem. I blame my gaming peers and casuals for buying into it.
Re: Reminder: Three New NES Games Hit Switch Today, Plus A Special Version Of Kid Icarus
Re: Rumour: Persona 5, Metroid Prime Trilogy And A Link To The Past Are Switch-Bound According To Best Buy
Normally I'm not excited about remakes, remasters, reboots, ports, ports of ports, especially old games. but I'm hype for that metroid.
Nintendo lost me during the N64 days to sony and so on. So I didn't get a chance to see how metroid evolved.
Re: Talking Point: Super Mario Maker 2 Should Finally Enable Us To Craft The Perfect Mario Mixtape
@spirit_flame
Re: Nintendo Switch And 3DS Blockbuster Sale Starts 11th April, Up To 60% Off Top Games
@Pluto14
LA noire is one of the worst "Games" I've ever played. No amount of portability is going to make it better.
It's not even really a game. It's just a cinematic walking/driving sim with the trademark rockstar jank.
Re: Nintendo Switch And 3DS Blockbuster Sale Starts 11th April, Up To 60% Off Top Games
@Medic_alert
Wrong person. I'd never buy a Bethesda game again no matter how well optimized or crisp the visuals were. Lol
Re: Nintendo Switch And 3DS Blockbuster Sale Starts 11th April, Up To 60% Off Top Games
@BrettAwesome
Re: Nintendo Switch And 3DS Blockbuster Sale Starts 11th April, Up To 60% Off Top Games
@retro_player_22
Especially considering it's the worst version of the game. But because the Nintendo platform is starved for triple A quality offerings, they can get away with it.
Re: Feature: EGX Rezzed Proved Nintendo Is Winning The Indie War
@nofriendo
Re: Feature: EGX Rezzed Proved Nintendo Is Winning The Indie War
Well it's pretty hard not to have a good relationship with indies when you adopt an "everything gets certified" mentality.
I mean there a lot of questionable junk on the eShop. If they approved all that, I don't think anyone has to worry if they are making a "real" game.
Re: Yoshi's Crafted World Producer Discusses The Game's Difficulty
Re: Switch Online Mobile App Receives New Update, But It's Still Mostly Useless
The phone was a mistake.
Nintendo online is the absolute least social gaming experience.
Mostly just feels like playing against bots with lag but for 25 a year.
Re: Wolfenstein: Youngblood Might Come With A Download Code Instead Of A Game Card
Re: Review: SEGA AGES Gain Ground - A Commendable Failure, But A Failure Nonetheless
Over priced port flip sent to clog up the eshop. Finally a fair score for these little nostalgic cash grabs.
I imagine there's a lot of talent and resources being wasted on this junk when they could be making new games.
