Nice. Time to get back in to this game.
Or just wait for an amazing sale. This title, while good, lives in discounted territory
Haha, French animators.
Fox makes eye contact with Razor's chest area for just a second longer than he does with her face.
It is bittersweet having to pick up the new pilots, ships and weapons digital only, but I am very happy to have so many new reasons to return to Atlas, one of my GOTY 2018. If you haven't given this one a chance yet, I urge you to please do so.
I thought nintendo said the Star Fox stuff was free.
Buying the supposed everything included deluxe package and then being asked for more is scammy. Just sell the whole damn game.
So is there any news if this is at least selling better on Switch with the toys to life aspect killed? Maybe it will pick up after this DLC.
I'm always put off by DLC prices compared to the full game. $12 when the game is available for £18 on Amazon... I doubt the DLC is as big as 50% of the original game.
Recently got the starter pack for €20, I still need to start it up the first time, but with Dragon's Dogma on the way (ordered the physical US version), it might have to wait a while longer.
Is there anywhere we can find DLC info for a game on the Nintendo website? I find it pretty annoying to navigate and find any useful information.
For a game that offered so much in terms of additional paid ships and characters, it was fairly short. I’m glad there’s some more missions and options here now. It felt like a missed opportunity.
This is still in my backlog pile, however I’m looking forward to playing this one
Wish the star fox characters at the very least could’ve been released physically
I need to finish this game...but I can't put down Smash.
@Fake-E-Lee @StevenG My mother picked up the boxed Switch version for my son for his birthday at Target for about $20. We never bought any more after that b/c the DLC prices seemed like punishment for anyone who bought it physically and toys were nowhere to be found. I would have played the Starfox missions for $4.99 but not for $11.99. If it came with another physical pilot and ship then it could be $11.99.
At this rate we'll update the free content but I doubt we'll ever play it.
Good to know!... saving this for my weekend trip!
Compared to $15 for yet another archaic looking Retro RPG - this looks great for $11 bucks.
So do I need to buy extra pilots to play the Outlaw/Prospector Faction Story stuff?
Two questions:
just bought the game for £15 seems worth it just for the models, will probably wait for a sale on the DLC as we know Ubi is not shy in reducing price on this one!
I will enjoy this at some point, but I probably should finish the main game itself. Sadly it doesn't have as big of a draw on me as Paladins or even the surprisingly enjoyable Inti Creates retro-style games.
Thank you Ubisoft!!!
Woo, more content! Will get in June.
Will have a race later! Really need to finish the main campaign first before I tuck into the paid StarFox DLC
The update is not 8.6GB; it is initially that big but after downloading deletes old stuff to settle on 9.6 GB overall, including the forced 6GB they made you download if you bought physically. The update is about 3GB total
What exactly is in the new DLC? There doesn’t seem to be much info on it.
I bought the physical version. However now you can no longer buy the ships, characters and accessories. So can somebody explain to me how when the Star Fox ship is destroyed in game I can use the other ship that was digital that came with the game. As the game instructs you to connect the physical ship to the controller.
I would like to know this before I get any DLC as I don’t want to pay for something that then asks me to connect the model ship or character that I don’t physically have but have digitally.
May be a simple answer but I couldn’t figure it out.
@nhSnork It is definitely an installation package that adds more GB to the default size even if you only purchased the main game. I had around 6 GB left on my SD card and Switch asked me to archive a game of around 1,5 GB before going on with the installation of the update.
Crimson Moon is an absolute blast, and a huge jolt to the IP, in my opinion. The racing is fantastic and tough as nails, and the coliseum is super tense but not unfair. The taunting is particularly brutal and at times too much. Not sure if there's a way to turn it off. But definitely give this a try if you haven't yet. Greatly increases the value of the game, IMHO.
Good game. Good chunk of stuff added for free. The paid Dlc isn't needed, it's just more ships/characters, though I'll probably pick up the Starfox pack.
Help please, when this game first came out i remember it having a somewhat complicated choice of purchase options involving real toys, dlc and stuff. Seem to recall the best option being the digital version because it was all in one bundle and didnt involve toys or attachments? Or am I wrong?
My dilemma is how to buy this game? I prefer cartridge if available (nostalgic like that heh) but is digital the best route for content?
@nofriendo Thanks for actually sharing your thoughts on it! I'm looking forward to giving it a go this evening. I booted it up for a few moments yesterday on Asher and noticed a new enemy, as well as my setup not being as beast-killing as it previously was. I bought the digital deluxe on release and have thoroughly enjoyed the game. Planet running of Mass Effect 1, with the space combat of Starfox 64 in All-Range mode. Good game.
I got the Deluxe Edition on sale for about $30 bucks. I think the game is worth more, though, and will gladly support the hard work of the developers with a paltry additional $12 for some brand new quality content. Seems like the game underperformed in Ubi's eyes too, so I view buying paid DLC as a personal vote for them to allow this cool new IP to continue on into the future
@Laxeybobby When it says to connect a ship you can press X (possibly another button, it says on screen) to 'play digitally' then you can use any of the digital items.
The StarFox DLC on the eshop doesn't mention this additional mission and is just called the pilot pack.
Has anyone bought the pack yet and played the new content?
@taeles the physical base game is around £18 so that is the best value at the moment. You can play it with or without using the actual toys.
Both the digital versions come with more ships and pilots but you can play through the whole game without needing them. The digital versions were half price for a while, so you might want to wait for a sale.
The physical does requires a 6GB download though, so you aren't really getting the game on-cart.
@chardir check the bay currys were selling for £15 earlier
@Laxeybobby - It is stupidly confusing. You can't use digital ships if you're using the physical ship mount for the controllers. You need to unplug the controllers from that and then you can use digital stuff instead. which is far easier.
It's a pity there won't be new toys, but it was doomed from the start. First off it cost too much, the point to get people to buy a lot of these things. I loved the model of actually being swoosh-able multi-component toys, but still waited until the prices dropped by half. I'm no expert, but whoever felt the original prices hit the balance point people were willing to pay sucked at their job.
Compound the unappealing prices by also having a digital only version that had less fuss than physical insertion AND costs way less so the gear was essentially free. I won't argue toys to life is probably dead (TBH; the time was decades before the tech was ready). But don't point to Starlink's line as proof. That was being set up it to fail by a company that either wanted it dead or tried to have it's cake and eat it too.
@chardir Many thanks I will look for this when I next play it. I new it must have been a simple solution but I couldn’t see it.
@Keldraxas Thanks so can I clarify.
I have bought the physical version and if I want to play the R Wing I can by playing the game without the ship mount?
So next question without using the ship mount how do I add to the game the characters, accessories and ship models I have physically purchased?
@Kiz3000 I'm wondering the same thing. Anyone know if the Star Fox character pack is what unlocks the new missions?
@Yodalovesu That’s exactly how I see it. There have been so many sales on this game that $12 for more stuff, after getting a boatload of free content, is a pretty good deal. And I bought in digital deluxe on day 1.
I just ordered the computer for my truck and it came out exactly $11.83 cheaper than I had planned. That savings is going straight to Ubi 😁
@Yodalovesu Brand New content? You mean stuff they held back from the original game to make more money?
You realize they laid off the development staff right after the game shipped, right?
The only one making money on this are the execs.
@StevenG the crimson moon portion is free, the new star fox content is what you pay for and that wasn’t held back.
@StevenG We're going to need a source for that buddy. A quick Google didn't bring up anything to do with Unisoft laying off Starlink staff.

THIS!!! RE-MAPPABLE CONTROLS FOR BOOST! I’m serious this was my only complaint with the game and it’s finally been “fixed.”
This makes me sooooo happy- I’m honestly going to play it tonight and will probably stick with it to completion now. Thanks, Ubisoft!
No. Ubisoft doesn't need to peddle over priced dlc for a failed game whose gimmick is now cancelled.
No. You don't need to give Ubisoft more money.
Less people that buy it the better. These lazy side projects designed to siphon money through children are disgusting.
Where are all the other Ubisoft games? Oh right the switch can't run them.
I caved and got myself the digital collectors edition on sale for ~40€ (usually ~100).
For that money, it's actually a pretty decent if typically "Ubi-formulaic checklist" game.
And while i applaud Ubi for not giving up on this game, even though its "Toys 2 Life" angle failed spectacularly, seeing that they also added another ~100€ batch of DLC is... offputting, to say the least.
What makes this whole thing so bad is the fact, that Starlink's combat system resolves around its weapon switching mechanics...and the unique new weapons (since the standalone weapon packs all seem to be pallet swaps of the original loadout) are all bundled with the new ship packages (15€ each, 45€ in total).
The pallet swap weapons and the two new stand-alone pilots are bundled in a 50€ package, while the 3 Star Fox pilots cost 12€.
So all in all, without sales, you're looking at a 200+€ game. And as much as i enjoyed it, the price is in no way appropriate, not in the slightest...
Sadly, this concludes my playthrough of Starlink until all of that stuff gets a hefty sales cut.
It lives and dies with it's weapons and if those cost as much as an entire game, i'm out for the time being...
@nhSnork
My file size is 9gb total after patch. That’s for physical version.
I bought the Satrfox Pilot Pack, but holding off on the Collection 2 Pack until a sale arrives. No rush to spend that $50. The StarFox Pilots though... oh ya, gotta have that. Well worth the money spent there
One of the most underrated titles on the Switch, in my opinion. Love this game, and will keep purchasing content as long as the devs keep producing.
I plan to cash in some My Nintendo coins and get the starfox DLC right away, but I will probably wait until the next ubisoft sale to get the rest of the DLC
@Fake-E-Lee I agree with you.
@Yodalovesu I think most people who bought and played the game are okay with the $12 for extra Star Fox content characters and missions. The bigger problem is the second wave of DLC on top of that for $50. It's roughly four new characters, three ships, and half a dozen new weapons. I expected this and called it when the DLC was announced. It just feels they are asking a lot of their fanbase to pay that much when the rest of the actual game content is offered for free. I get that no one needs to buy it, but it's kind of a slap in the face for anyone that wants to support Ubisoft with the small amount of actual content you get in this second wave of paid content.
@sleepinglion I doubt there will be a sale on the DLC. Mario + rabbids dlc has never had a discount.
@Nico07 they also announced the end of the game and no more physical toys. So everything we get is a bonus. It also appears that they had this planned all along: the weird way you could buy digital or physical toys now makes sense.
@Nico07 I don't really understand the DLC it is confusing, what's the £50 DLC you mention? Can't see that in the article.
@quinnyboy58 it's not mentioned in the article for some reason but it's the second wave of DLC character content that would have also been physical toys until the early April announcement.
@okeribok I don't think they announced the end of the game, just the toys. They had mentioned late last year they hoped to put out a continuous source of content. I doubt they are finished yet. Just the value proposition on the $50 of season 2 content doesn't seem there. I bought the most expensive digital pack on Switch when it launched, followed by the Switch Starter Pack and then all ships, characters, weapons, and store exclusives last year as well. I even just bought the Star Fox DLC, but $50 for the second wave of content is even too pricey for me. $30 might have been easier to swallow than $50 for what's offered.
@Nico07 thanks, any idea how long the Starfox DLC missions are?
@okeribok Good to know, thanks
@Kiz3000 Industry standard practice for the last 20 years. You layoff QA and most of the developers the minute the game ships. You don't announce it, since you are just not renewing the contracts.
@StevenG What? Where is your source? Never heard that.
@Fake-E-Lee "Deluxe Version"
Have you been following FFXV? That's a fiasco, and the game that broke me forever. I got the game, movie, season pass and guidebook. Then they came out w/ a Royale Edition. Then they came out w/ another season pass, then they canceled 3/4 of that, then they charged more for the 1 remaining piece.
And that huge infographic for Tomb Raider 3 w/ 7 pieces of monthly DLC on it. And so many unfinished games and betas nowadays. I just coughed up $30 for early access to Dreams, a game they showed 6 years ago. I figured I should since I have a $200 PSVR headset and a lot of those games are $40.
I was also shocked-not shocked when Pokken DX got $15 paid DLC on Switch. On a $60 years old port at that. Doesn't DX stand for Deluxe?
Industry is basically 1 big con game now. But I guess for people who spend $4 on a cup of coffee 3x a day at Starbucks it's just business as usual. Apologies for that last part, since deleted Chase tweet yesterday was extra annoying.

@JaxonH thanks, although physical editions may be a different case. After all, my digital one (the deluxe edition) was over 13 Gb from the start. Speaking of which, while I was checking it out today, I was perplexed to find that Data Management lists somehow indicate it (and a few other recent small games) as occupying Switch memory instead of the card. That explains why I only have 8 Gb left here, but as someone using memory cards since the summer of 2017... I thought it was said that Switch never downloads software to internal memory with the card inserted?🤔🤔🤔 I wasn't even notified.
Weird stuff. Oh well, it's downloading now (so, to SD card? Otherwise you'd think the system would lament the lack of space at once), I'll see how it behaves afterwards.
EDIT: phew. Still not sure if the size was calculated with or without new paid Starfox stuff, but the patch actually filled ~6 Gb on the card during download and then did install itself into the game, ultimately taking up an estimated extra 3.2 Gb of internal storage. I'm still perplexed to have discovered this placement months later and not entirely amused to have under 5 Gb left on Switch itself (it's a cemented location for all the save files, after all)... but I suppose it's not much trouble, especially with the cloud at play. Could be worse.
@deucezulu22 Use google. Talk to people in the industry.
www.wired.com/2012/10/lionhead-layoffs/
This way they can release on a decent schedule, then lower costs and take the profits. This silly cry about paying developers is astroturfing for the industry that stops paying developers as soon as possible.
This is wonderful, so glad this game got more goodies.
@StevenG yeah, I was so excited to get the new Crimson Moon update. So I stayed up late downloading it to play it the next day. I've been in the thick of it, enjoying the new free content, until I went to go switch ships in the menu and noticed that there were bunch of new ships in there that were locked, and I did a huge double-take. I then decided to go see if there were new guns, and sure enough, a ton of new guns were in there, then on to the pilots, same story, and wings, of course to go with the ships. I had no idea that they were also releasing all-new paid dlc content to go along with this Crimson Moon update until I saw all that in there. Before all of this, I had actually paid $50 to unlock all of the paid dlc content, because I ended up deciding it was worth it. even though normally I despise locking important game content behind a paywall. Now, overnight I go from having all the content unlocked to only having half of it...
I don't think I'll be forking over another $50 to get the Collection 2 Pack. I love the game, and am really enjoying all of this new free content that came in the Crimson Moon update, but this is getting ridiculous even for Ubisoft. Now if you want the whole game, with everything unlocked in its entirety, it will cost you just shy of $200. That's crazy. I would rather Ubisoft just charge a little more for the whole game for everybody than to charge a hefty price for a core game, then charge RIDICULOUS prices to unlock the rest of the content.
@Nico07
Yeah, I'm on that side too. I don't mind the extra bucks for the Star Fox characters and side mission but the extra 50 for more weapons, characters and ships is a bit, uhh... If they were going to price it that high, it would have been nice if they added more value to it. I downloaded the deluxe version on my Switch and I really like the game itself, but it would have been nice if the DLC was like 20~30...
This is the best Nintendo Switch game EVER! Better than that horrific murdering genocidal smash bros game!
Am I just too dumb to figure out how to remap the controls? Isn’t that what they are advertising in this update? Remapping the boost? Options>Controls brings me to a static image of the controller diagraming what each button does. No options to swap anything. What gives?
