Starlink: Battle for Atlas is about to receive a lovely sounding dollop of new content. Fasten those Arwing seatbelts, folks.
First up is what Ubisoft describes as a "significant" content update called 'Crimson Moon'. This update will arrive completely free of charge across all platforms and will release on 30th April, coinciding with the launch of the base game's new Windows PC version. Here's what to expect from this free content:
As part of the free update, players can explore the Crimson Moon, theater of the Outlaw Games. Players will be able to compete in all-new single-player and two-player split-screen racing tracks, fight waves of ruthless enemies in the Crimson Coliseum and see their rank and stats on leaderboards. The Crimson Moon will also impact the entire world of Atlas and let players engage with new faction story missions and weekly challenges. Additionally, players will be able to expand their roster and play through the new Crimson Moon content with five new pilots, three new starships and eleven new weapons available separately for digital-only purchase.
Switch owners are getting another treat on top of this, however, with brand new Star Fox content coming exclusively to Nintendo's console. Players will take control of Peppy, Falco, and Slippy as they hunt down the Star Wolf team in a series of missions. Each of the three Star Fox team members come with their own unique abilities and skill tree.
Because you can't have everything in life for free, this content will be a digital purchase that will cost $11.99. Again, this will be available on 30th April.
Excited to see more Starlink: Battle for Atlas content? Will you be jumping in to check it all out? Tell us below.

So glad I got the Digital Deluxe edition on sale a while back. Haven't had a chance to play it yet, so this should be a nice present for when I boot up the game.
They're still making additional content for this game?! Impressive
Why haven’t I bought this? Or ever space? Just can’t pull trigger, as much as I love star fox even. Sounds like I’m running out of reasons.
Wait what?? The promised free star fox update now costs??? The cost to get all the content in this game is nothing short of scandalous.
I’ll pay for the star fox stuff buts it’s a shame they ruined the game with all the extras
Yeah..... super overpriced game that no one's heard of with some sort of toy gimmick that has since been cancelled.
If this is the extent of Ubisoft support for the switch, they can keep it.
@LuciferOnReddit Considering the digital version comes with the vast majority of the weapons and pilots (and the deluxe comes with all of them and was only 70USD + is often on sale) it's not that bad.
Of course if you bought it physical, I get being upset.
@LuciferOnReddit I wonder if the reason Starlink didn't perform so well is because of the pricing. I was only willing to buy it in a sale because it then becomes close to the price of a normal game with all the weapons. Without being on sale it would have cost between £70-£80 which is ridiculous.
Bought this game physically on discount at Target, and grabbed a couple of ships, weapon packs, and pilots too. Am stoked that we're getting a free update. I don't mind paying for the additional Star Fox content.
This is a beautiful game and I’m so happy that more content is coming. My hope is that they will continue the series in the future but without micro-transactions next time.
Man where’s the online versus mode like the 64 had
NICE!!!
I GREATLY appreciate the new content, even though it's sales were low. (except on Switch)
There won't be a sequel, but Nintendo should contract the Starlink team to make a full-on Star Fox game in the same style.
@LuciferOnReddit the digital deluxe version includes EVERYTHING and is often on sale for cheaper than the starter set. I don’t get this argument, I got everything for less than the price of any full priced retail game thanks to the frequent sales...
@LuciferOnReddit I have recently started playing the game and what you describe has nothing to do with Starlink. Are you sure you are talking about Starlink? I bet you are confused with another game because what I see and play is an excellent and polished sci-fi video game.
@Donutman it is on sale for like 30 euro for the deluxe version and that is actually worth the price.
I did not hate the game, but put off playing it almost straight away, due to hoping that at some point someone with some sense would add the button remapping it direly needs.
@Karula Odd. I find the button mapping the game uses fantastic.
welp I guess I better go pick up an eshop card!
Just finished the main game. Unfortunately, I think the Devs missed a lot of opportunities with game. They could have madenit huge and epic, instead they made small and repetitive. Each planet is basically the same, each base looks the same, all mini missions are the same (go there, get me this). Even the boss battles are the same, beside the end boss.
Why not make every dreadnought slightly different? And there is Atlas A, B and C, why the hell.the whole story is just about A? There is absolutely no reason for me to replay the game with any other character, because is already finished everything, nothing left out and it didn't take so long (beside scanning all animals, which has no benefit for me).
I had high hopes for this game, but it's maximum a 6. Technically impressive and very fine tuned, but content wise meeeh. I purchased the deluxe version and now they want me to pay again? Sorry, will not happen!
@Karula exactly! I often shot away an important item because Y is shot items you hold and interact... Completely nonsense...
The toys to life aspect of this game is a massive setback because weapons are hidden behind those toys. I wouldn't be as bothered if it were only the ships, but weapons and their elements play a part in the game's combat and it's fun combat at that(Though I feel it could use more enemy variety), and the weapons themselves are pretty fun to use, with my personal favorite being the Meteor Mk. 2.
If anyone is interested in this game, just get the digital deluxe version, because the base game is pretty empty in customization.
If I bought the deluxe edition do I still have to pay?
If so that seems like a scam.
@StevenG Looks like it, as the digital deluxe edition only got you everything in collection 1. Don't get your hopes up for new toys though.

Perhaps this is the Star Fox racing game that was rumored to be in development??
I will purchase the DLC, but with the amount I already paid for the game I can't say anything else than that I do feel a bit robbed..
I´ll wait for a definitive digital edition with ALL the content there is to buy from this game (including this new DLC). Everything about this Starlink is pretty crazy, so I think evetually they will have to sell something that nobody will get confused with.
A FINAL DEFINITIVE EDITION, without any gimmick and having to pay extra for many other things. That´s what I want, and I bet many others too.
@Donutman Same for me, I just can't get myself to get these, and I LOVE the look of these space epics. Guess I just can't bite on the prices, idk. Sad to know you don't don't get the full jam with Starlink's physical copy out the box, but oh well...
@the_beaver there is a final definitive version. https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/starlink-battle-for-atlas-deluxe-edition-switch/
This literally the entire game. The only part you’d have to pay for is the new star fox content, the Crimson Moon part is FREE. And it goes on sale every other month for half that price.
Lol ubisoft...maybe when the base game is free. Time is money in this case.
A very worthwhile update. The game was tons of fun so far and look forward to jumping back in.
Still something feels off about it to me. Maybe it's because there's no ending and it''s just relying on expansions to add new stuff.
Still would prefer a stand alone Star Fox game.
oh cool!... I got it as a deep sale (finally found someone selling 3D printed stand for it). Keep it on my work desk - Little ones love to play with it when they visit.
I enjoyed it ($29 well worth it) - I'll give them another $11 if a decent story mission.
@mousieone Good, I didn´t actually know about that one lol, but I´ll still wait for an edition where this DLC is included. Still 40 bucks is a bit too much for a game I don´t know if I would like...
I bought the deluxe digital edition for $40 a while back and have been waiting to play it u til this drops. I am going to play the game starting on april 30 and if I like it enough have no issues paying $12 for the extra Star Fox content. I am really excited to give this one a go next week
All these people downvoting on comments complaining about the various money schemes compared to the barebones content should have real-life jobs and financial responsibilities forced upon them. I imagine games like these become another level of nightmare for the parents that are having to gatekeep this.
That said, it looks like this content was made after the main development. If so, sure, pay for it, especially when a number of people probably bought the main game on a sale, anyway.
(I don't care about the racing or the alliances, just give me that sweet free Starfox content. )
Edit: If it's paid Starfox content... I might be willing, just to plainly tell Nintendo to give us another on-rails Starfox, already!
@LuciferOnReddit Your description of needing to buy additional weapons to complete the game is completely untrue. I completed the story comfortably with simply the standard inclusions in the base pack, playing with Fox and the Arwing the entire time, and wouldn’t consider myself a particularly skilled player. This game is good value if you pick up the base pack on sale.
@LuciferOnReddit I bought the physical release at Christmas as it was so cheap that I couldn’t say no. Not played it yet but what will I have to additionally buy to get through the game? How much additional stuff will I have to buy?
@Mr_Pepperami You really do not need to, but even if you decide to you can purchase the additional weapons digitally. If you play on the weekends, they generally have one of the other ship/pilot/gun combos available on a trial basis so you can even take advantage of that if you desire a specific element to complete something tricky.
Any mention of customizing those controls? I so wish I could boost and move around laterally at the same time. As it is now you can only do one or the other because you can’t use the same thumb to do both and it’s awkward. It’s my only gripe with the game and it seems like a real easy fix! It’s an improvement that would be as good as a mini map in Yooka Laylee.
I haven't even put this game into my Switch yet because I hate having to download huge chunks of the game onto my system. So I probably won't be purchasing this either. Oh well.
The standard digital version of the game is currently on offer on the European eShop - it finishes tomorrow.
Dope. I’ll gladlly pay for more Star Fox content. This game is awesome.
So why did Nintendo not just loan out the starfox licence to Ubisoft and just get them to make a full on starfox game?
@Ralphio Same here, I got it for £20 so not quite as good a deal as you but it's been well worth it. Looking forward to playing the update when it arrives 😁
Love this game! Got all the ships and accessories and I was looking forward to this update. Gonna break out the game and put some more hours into it. So many comments above are so totally wrong in so many ways. Get all digital and you'll have everything you need and it's not much extra cost. You also don't NEED anything besides the starter set to finish the game. I wish people would stop misinforming about that. It's a very fun game with a decent amount of content and replay value.
Considering that I got the Switch Starter Kit for $20 at Target and got a free weapon with it, I have no issues with paying $12 for the new content since I’m still getting one of the best Star Fox games in years for $32 total, plus an awesome model Arwing statue
Gotta wonder how many people complaining were aware the game was talked about since last spring, and/or bought it. Sounds more like “I didn’t know how to read product reviews or the box and I’m angry for some reason. I also don’t know how to read the Switch every week for the past two months, telling me about free dlc weekends. Poor me”
@CrazyZelda79 hey sure... but the stand is "ok" - just 3 3D printed pieces that fit in each other. The ship does not clip-on the stand like the controller mount. Just falls into place.

The deluxe edition is missing 2 ships amd I thought the weapons that came with them in the exclusively store sold packs? Its definitely missing Startail pilot. Anyway, I was under the impression this would be free, too. I bought all physically, so have spent enough. Would have done it if it was physical and the 3 ship packs unlocked a third or so content, digitally could have been the same and sold also. It's just annoying to not get Slippy, Falco and Peppy.
Heck yeah, been waiting for this one. Starlink is pretty great, I'm not too annoyed at the DLC model, I got the game for like $20, so whatever.
That's the unfortunate side effect to a bunch of Western made games nowadays; they heavily rely on paid DLC and microtransactions. Hence why so many of em drop in price rather quickly.
totally buying the expansion. new ships baby!
Is the Peppy/Falco/Slippy content just being able to use them in the game and for the existing Wolf content, or is there brand new story elements specifically for them ? i hope its the latter.
@Toadie According to this article above the comments; Switch owners are getting another treat on top of this, however, with brand new Star Fox content coming exclusively to Nintendo's console. Players will take control of Peppy, Falco, and Slippy as they hunt down the Star Wolf team in a series of missions
@Jayofmaya the two ships are basically Reskins of current ships. The weapon at least for Cerebus comes with the Deluxe package, not sure about Levi’s Scramble. The Startail pilot was a time limit exclusive for the Uk, she will be added with the crimson moon update which is free. I wouldn’t be surprised if the other two ships came as well.
Ubisoft has done a good job reshaping the game from the old Toys to Life model.
I will definitely be grabbing the StarFox DLC, as I enjoyed the existing content that came with the game.
As far as the other paid DLC I will play it by ear, see what is available.
I bought physical on day 1, but regretted it. Digital version incl so many ships and the split screen mode was flawed (if you went too far from each-other you will be teleported back near player one).
This game needed an online co op mode... Something like Destiny in spaceships would have been huge. As is, it's a solid 15 hour campaign that lacks any compelling reason to keep going after finishing the missions. There really isn't an endgame.
I bought this on eshop for 50%off and enjoyed it when I was tired and brainless. Not to say its bad, I actually enjoyed leveling up my planets with a beer and netflix on before bed.
Never finished the Fox side missions so maybe I will now.
I have a sneaking suspicion a lot of the above comments are not made by real Nintendo Life readers. They’re all just variations on “heck yeah, love this game!” It’s pretty, and it’s fun for a while, but wow is it repetitive. Definitely not the game all these fake accounts claim it is. Smoke a joint, fly around, blast some things. That’s about the extent of it.
@nofriendo Agree, it's repetitive and boring
What! Original update on this content was that it would be free of charge. That's it, I'm selling the game.
They keep adding content and the game is dirt cheap. I need to pick it up at some point.
Very interesting game, I will buy it as soon as I can.
@Santoria What a scam. The deluxe edition should include everything.
@nofriendo You have just described every video game ever.
@StevenG LOL if every game had that on the back of the box, I'd buy it

@x_Llokii_x thanks, I bought it. Now still waiting for a deal on everspace...
Bam! Playing as Peppy, Slippy & Falco?! That adds more to this game's plot! WAY TO GO NINTENDO & UBISOFT!
