@Nintendemon I never said that racism was a joke. What I meant was in physical sports, players often hurl the most horrible, nasty, offensive, ugly thing at each other but the game goes on. I can’t recall a professional sporting event, other than e-sports, where a winner has been stripped because of something somebody said.

Re: Super Mario Bros. Live-Action Movie Getting 4K Anniversary Screening (Japan)

Hck

You do know that film, which is what the original Super Mario Movie was captured on, far exceeds 4K resolution. 4K look good on your TV or monitor, but when blown up to movie screen size... in fact, I'm scratching my head wondering if I've ever heard of a 4K theatrical re-release before, and this might be the first (for me, at least).

Re: Yes, Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Costs $70, Collector's Edition Announced

Hck

@SailorCallisto look, there's a better way for me to explain this. Nintendo of Japan is paying of the game and it's manufacture. They are a Japanese company, this they pay in yen. The dollar is stronger than the yen. Therefore Nintendo will make more money from selling a game for 70 dollars in the US than they will selling a 7000 yen game in Japan.

Only 100 yen is not the Japanese equivalent to $1. It's apples to oranges unless you have a currency conversion. Using your logic, in China 100 yuan must be the equivalent of $1... In India 100 rupees must be the equivalent of $1. 100 yen is just 100 yen. You're talking about the buying power of local currency in the common market which is not equivalent. 7900 yen cannot feel like dollars to someone who has only used yen.

I think what you're trying to say is that the ¥7980 price in Japan feels like $80 to YOU. However, it feels like a tad over $60 to me.

Re: Poll: So, Animal Crossing: New Leaf Or New Horizons - Which Do You Like Best?

Hck

I fell like Nintendo put all their eggs in the "we'll let users create their own content so we don't have to!" basket in Horizons. As a player once I got my city the way I wanted it, that was that. I didn't want to terraform and redesign every month or so, I wanted a good, familiar town.

To me, Horizons borrowed more DNA from Happy Home Academy than from New Leaf. I much preferred New Leaf.

Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Pre-Orders Are Already Breaking Records In Japan

I've lived in Japan for 15 years and I've never heard of COMG! so I looked them up. There are 12 total stores in Japan, all on the west coast. They're considered a cell phone store. I'd be much more interested in pre-order numbers from Bic Camera, Geo, or a place the Japanese public associate as a place to preorder games. Places that exist where a majority of the population lives.

Re: Splatoon 3 Is Already The Best-Selling Video Game Of 2022 In Japan

@johnvboy The disconnects, the matcmaking issues. I live in Japan and play in that region in Splatoon 3. My wife, who does NOT play games, was commenting to me how just the other day that the topic of issues with Splatoon 3 was trending on Twitter in Japan. Couple that with places like GameFaqs whose Splatoon 3 Salt thread reached the maximum allowable post count in record time speaks to the game having issues.

Re: You Can Now Play NES Games On The Analogue Pocket

It's disappointing to me that Analogue machines went from a way to experience the original (cartridge) games as accurately as possible on modern televisions to just another way for people to illegally play downloaded ROMs.

Re: Sega's Latest Mini-Console Is Cute, But Reviewers Are Complaining Of Bad Lag

I have one. Live in Japan and got it release day. I have had no issues playing on the tiny screen or on my 75" Sony TV via HDMI. I'm going to chalk this report into the bin, lunked together with those "if it's not 60FPS then it's unplayable" people.

Once again, hooked to my TV via HDMI, playing with the Astro Pad. Thoroughly enjoyable, very, very happy I bought it.

This is the dual edged sword of having a popular system with ecchi games. In the past, systems with truly adult games (Saturn, 3DO, etc) were not the leading systems. Leading systems were more mainstream. That's why they were market leaders.

On an oddly related note, I never understood why Xbox didn't embrace adult content for Japan. Boatloads of adult PC content on a console that's easy to port PC games to PLUS a built in user base you could attract = win. Nintendo doesn't have this issue at this point.
