We're in the middle of trailer season, with showcases and presentations aplenty! And in yesterday's Guerrilla Collective showcase, we spotted something that might be one to hide from your kids.
Hell Pie is a brand new 3D platformer from developer Sluggerfly who was behind the "grotesque" Ben and Ed on PC. It's coming to Switch on 21st July and publisher Headup has shared a brand new trailer to celebrate the announcement.
Full to the brim with obscenities and disgusting imagery, Hell Pie is a platformer with a difference. It uses crudeness and silliness to stand out from the crowd in shocking ways while being inspired by old-school 3D platformers.
Why don't we find out what the game is all about, courtesy of the game's press release:
In Hell Pie, you grab the horns of Nate, the 'Demon of Bad Taste'. Your task is to gather the disgusting ingredients for Satan's infamous birthday pie. Venture out into the overworld and do whatever it takes to ensure those ingredients are secured in time, or there'll be hell to pay!
Luckily Nate isn't alone on this quest, with his 'pet' angel Nugget ready and able to offer support. Nugget offers his holy insight when needed but, more importantly, is chained to Nate, so he can be used as a grappling hook or swung around as a weapon. Nate can also equip horns he finds across the world to give him new hellish abilities, from charging through enemies and boulders, to gliding through the air.
Together, Nate and Nugget will explore wild environments, meet tons of unsavoury enemies and characters, and witness some truly shocking sights in the seriously twisted take on the classic mascot platformer.
“Hell Pie is a game that we’ve had a lot of fun making and we can’t wait to share all the obscenity and silliness with the world at large when it comes to PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC on July 21st,” said Christian Patorra, Sluggerfly’s CEO. “We’re sure anyone who shares our love of classic 3D platforming is going to like what we are cooking up!”
Honestly, the little demon is kind of cute? But it's clear that Nate is out to cause mayhem just in the name of making pie. Well, we would too — pie is delicious — but there's a limit, and Nate isn't aware of that.
Check out the new trailer 'SFW' trailer below, but be warned as you can still make out a lot of the game's gross and crude moments.
What do you think of Hell Pie? Will you be picking this up on 21st July? Let us know in the comments.

Actually looks quite good fun. I need to see more but this is much more substantial than the usual roguelike solo dev low effort trash. This might be a game I would want to play.
Looks like my kind of humor. I'm more interested in this than I have been any other recent 3D platformers.
It might be crude and childish but it really taps into that 90s gross-out charm. Clearly there’s effort put in here.
It reminds me of the Garbage Pail Kids from the 80s/90s which got banned EVERYWHERE!
Looks pretty good to me, will keep an eye out for a physical
I watched part of this gameplay video. I dare say, the mechanics look like they might be solid(not janky). This looks promising. (PC footage)

I wonder how much censorship will the PS version have
That looks pretty good!
Not as gross as I feared from the headline.
Graphics look a bit low res and blocky in places.

That has some heavy "Conquer's Bad Fur Day" energy going for it.
Been keeping my eye out for this and it's finally going to console.😁
Not really my kind of humor, but it looks surprisingly well made. I haven't played a good 3D platformer in a while, so I might just give it a try at some point.
That little fat flappy angel thing looks like the baby from that 90s dinosaur show.
I see Cooking Mama has taken up a new residence.
@Clammy You win the comments section for today. Bravo.
Removed - unconstructive
Anyone going to point out that the cute demon is a blatant rip-off of the baby from the 90's TV show Dinosaurs? Like, 100% litigation ripoff considering Disney owns the rights.
@nessisonett - Definitely my thought too. The racy, unapologetic gross-out humor of the 90s rolled into a little 90s platformer package.
Some interesting mechanics in it too.
@Rainbowfire bet you're fun at parties.
Humor looks cringy but the platforming actually looks pretty solid
Why does that dude on the right look like King from The Owl House
Clearly copying Whiplash, but that's actually a good thing. I liked Whiplash back in the day. Will be keeping my eye out for this one for sure.
FARTS, platforming and the music!! MUST GET!!
Hell x CBFD is the vibe I got from it. Despite the gross humor, it looks like a well made platformer.
Is the blurred parts in the game as well, or only in the trailers?
Seems a bit off putting if there's giant blurr patches scattered across the game
@Rainbowfire just out of curiosity, what "mature" games do you play?
@TommyTendo It says it's a "Safe for work" trailer, so that's why they've censored it.
I don't care either way about the dumb humour. It just looks like a well made game, to me. I try every 3D platformer that exists on the switch, and most of them are pretty bad attempts at recreating the old magic of 90s 3D platformers. But this one actually looks quite good, almost like a Nintendo game
I'll wait for the reviews, but yeah I'll probably end up buying it like I've bought all the others, anyway. I'm still playing through lego star wars though, only got it last week
I suppose this is a homage to Conker's Bad Fur Day? Cos again, with that game, I don't love OR hate the dumb humour in it, but the gameplay is just so good that it's a good game regardless of how you feel about the theme
Well here's something you don't see every day. I'll be sure to keep my eyes open for this!
