It's been a while since we've had any news on Breakers Collection, the compilation of three Neo Geo beat 'em ups that never saw light outside of Japan. The release has seen a fair few delays, but it did get an open beta last year.
Now, Strictly Limited Games has announced that it will be releasing physical versions of Breakers Collection to sweeten the deal and make the wait worth it.
This is the first time the West will officially be able to get their hands on the Breakers games — Breakers and Breakers Revenge — but the collection will also contain brand new content. These 2D beat 'em ups lit up arcades with their fast-paced gameplay, super special moves, and easy to play but difficult to master classic fighting game action.
Here's what the collection will entail:
- A hidden gem from the golden age of arcade fighting games, remastered for modern consoles
- Makes full use of the Neo Geo’s power to deliver beautiful pixel graphics
- Sophisticated gameplay with fast and sharp controls that rewards tactics over button mashing
- Up 10 characters to choose from, each with their unique fighting style (8 in Breakers and 10 in Revenge)
- Compete for life or death in the legendary FIST tournament in Arcade Mode
- Duke it out with your friends to assert dominance on your couch in classic Versus Mode
- Brand-new Training Mode, being a highly requested feature after the beta (Revenge only)
- Impeccable online multiplayer featuring rollback net code with casual and ranked modes, tested by the community during open beta (Revenge only)
- Global online ranking boards (Revenge only)
- Art Gallery Mode
But, if you're an eager SNK or Neo Geo fan, you probably knew all of that, didn't you? You're here for the boxed goods, the physical editions, which marks the first time Strictly Limited Games has ever released a 2D fighter!
It's the usual pair of sets here, with a standard limited edition and a super-sized, super shiny collector's edition. The standard edition will cost €29.99 / $34.99,comes with a manual, and will be limited to 4,000 copies on Switch.
But, for not even double the price, the collector's edition will only have 3,000 copies printed for Switch, and the price will be €59.99 / $65.99. Let's have a look at what this bumper collector's edition brings for this collection of fighting games!
CE Item list:
- Game for Nintendo Switch
- Collector’s Edition Box
- Colorful Game Manual
- Tia Langray Headband with Breakers Collection Logo
- 2 Sweat Wristbands with Breakers Collection Logo
- Soundtrack with Songs from both Breakers and Revenge
- Acrylic Diorama featuring Tia Langray and Sho Kamui
- Arcade Flyer for Crystal Legacy (original Breakers prototype), A5 size
- Double-sided Poster with Main Visuals, A2 size
- Breakers Collection Die Cut Logo Sticker
- 10 Character Cards, A7 size
- Lenticular card, A6 size
For a gorgeous-looking box of goodies, that's not a bad price. Or, if you really want something unique, you can also snag an aluminium plate — of which there will only be 149! — at the Strictly Limited Games store here.
Pre-orders for both editions open on Saturday 21st May at 3pm PDT / 6pm EDT /11pm BST, or at midnight CET on 22nd May. You can check out the listings for the standard edition right here, or check out the collector's edition through this link.
Breakers Collection doesn't currently have a release date, but it's supposed to be coming out this year. Hopefully it'll break the delay mould and make its way onto Switch later in 2022. Let us know if you'll be pre-ordering the collection in the comments!

I'm glad the Visco NEOGEO games have finally been becoming less obscure over the years. These are some real hidden gems.
Better be real this time, also where is Rage of the Dragons?
I love Nintendolife for this sort of news! So many treasures I would have missed out on without them. Thank you NL!
@CharlieGirl yeah didn’t visco do neo drift out cos I would love to see that on switch
This game looks super tasty, but I pause when I hear Strictly Limited. I'm still waiting for them to ship oders I placed in 2020
I sorta want this CE but I can’t justify it. I have no need for those extras. I would like the OST though.
@Rambler King of the Monsters 1 & 2. Sengoku 1, 2, & 3. Mutation Nation. (technically) Top Hunter.
Strictly limited:(
Glad to see more Neo-Geo games rereleased, especially the fighters (they are real gems)
I thought "beat 'em ups" were games like Streets of Rage or Golden Axe, where you scroll along and beat up multiple enemies. "Fighting games" are 1 on 1 type games like this and King of Fighters or Mortal Kombat?
@Rambler granted this is a fighter which the Neo Geo is known for, but the system had plenty of side scrolling beatemups as well. Sengoku and burning fight for instance.
@Branovices you are correct. The author either made a mistake or isn’t familiar with the genres.
@Gs69 yes! they also did Puzzle de Pon, which I thought was more of a puzzle game than Puzzle Bobble/Bust-a-Move.
@Branovices you'd be correct
@CharlieGirl King of the Monsters is probably more accurately described as a wrestling game (which I guess in terms of video game mechanics, those could count as a form of one-on-one fighting). Debatable if 2 has enough of a variation from the first to count.
Wait, isn't Top Hunter a platformer?
Oooh, this is neat. Breakers and Breakers Revenge are decently underrated. Only thing i really want now is a port of KOF 98 and 2002 UM.
@KingMike I think King of the Monsters 2 definitely qualifies as a beat em up, except for the boss battles. you move your character along a set path, and plow through enemies in your way. which, by the way, also happens in Top Hunter.
Yeah I forgot about this, but now I definitely want this. I love Neo Geo games but never played this series. It’s right up my alley.
Has anyone here in the U.S. imported from strictly limited before? I’m just wondering what I should expect to be charged for importing.
All former Japan-exclusives must be mine!
@CharlieGirl it's a wrestling game.
@Rambler Sure, but genre names change over time as gameplay mutations and new technologies created new genres. Shooter, adventure, etc
meh... 2 games of about 30yo... and they aren't even able to set a date??? .... also that price 😵 ridiculous... please let HAMSTER publish them as ACA Neo Geo...
@GsPandem 100% agree ... also SVC chaos
@Rambler ok so UK terminology but then that would make your comment actually more odd to me. Because if fighting games are beat em ups in the UK I find it surprising that the genre the Neo Geo is known for was something you didn’t think the platform had.
I think the UK calls side scrolling beatemups “belt rollers” or something similar and as I said the Neo Geo is less known for those but it has them. And since I mentioned both in my initial comment even if I misunderstood your term usage due to regional differences, I still gave you a correct answer.
So what games do you know the Neo Geo by? I’ve never met anyone that doesn’t go Neo Geo/SNK=Fighting games, immediately. Most of the neo geo games on the switch are fighting games.
@Ryu_Niiyama I think I looked over a NeoGeo game list once and calculated only about a third of the games were actually "Fighters" (one-on-one fighting games).
It's probably just that many of the most popular games were fighters.
Not huge into fighting games but it seems that oddly enough Fatal Fury 1 might sort of break that definition. Can't recall if it had a 2P VS. mode. But oddly enough it allowed the "story mode" to be played as a 2P co-op game (a two-on-one game).
Though if I recall, the streamer I watch play a lot of arcade/NG games, said that if you play through with 2P, at the end they'll have to fight to decide the final winner of the game.
@Rambler oh ok cool, happens to the best of us. Gotta put up an emoji or the sarcasm sign or literal folks like myself will wade in and accidentally ruin your joke.
@KingMike A third of the library would be enough to make the system known for it, which was what I was saying. Of course I have seen some folks erroneously state that was all the neo geo had (like seriously and not just in hyperbole) but it’s no different than many associating the N64 with racing games and 3d platformers; not all the system has but what people think of first.
@Rambler I think the Brits refer to fighting games as "beat 'em ups" which, for the rest of us, is damn confusing!
