@nomither6 Does it though? You've got the Boost. Granted that has, on some objects, the same launching properties as the Sonic Adventure era Spin Dash.
But I suppose it would be the first 3D implementation of the move since 2006, and the game does have the first implementation of the Drop Dash in 3D so it is a little odd it was absent.
Be interesting to see if after Bloomberg's report the stock price went up. If so, then a publication once again promised something that didn't happen and impacted the stock market.
Of course the Switch is getting long in the tooth. It's six years old based on tech from 7 years ago. Naturally, you've seen what it can do by now.
Yet this wasn't being said about the PS4 or Xbone at the relative point either. 2019 didn't have "It's getting long in the tooth", despite games very clearly starting to struggle. And the tech in those was even older relative to the tech inside the Switch now.
The difference though? Switch is still selling exceptionally well for a system this late in its life without a price drop, and those other two systems went off a cliff the second their replacements were mentioned.
@Minfinity The amiibo thing was stuff like Woolly World where every Nintendo and third party amiibo gave a skin....except Pokemon. Same with Mario Maker on Wii U, every costume has unique sounds attached....except Pokemon.
@Minfinity "The timeframe given aren't in their hands"?
Yes it is. Game Freak owns one third of the Pokemon Company. They make the games. They decide the scope.
Sure we don't know exactly how the Pokemon Company works beyond ownership percentages, after all this company didn't let Nintendo use the Smash Pokemon amiibo for anything Pokemon based as a bonus in other games when even third party developers were letting them do it, so clearly that shows some level of aggressive independence.
Plus, Ishihara famously said the Switch wouldn't work and seemingly wasn't keen on making games for it. Not something a company Nintendo has much of a say in would do.
@sixrings Sure. But is it a bad thing that they dont feel the need, in a slide to investors, state outright "Cheaper innit"?
I imagine right now, pushing this angle is to get more investors, because no duh it's cheaper, all these people care about is money, but if you can highlight it's environmental too, chances are you can pull some more investors in.
And let's be honest, everything in these slides is marketing, environmental or not. Look how well out games sell, invest in us please. Look at our subscribers, give us more money now.
Plus, I recall Nintendo had in previous years come under fire from various angles for not being transparent enough or doing enough with environmental responsibility. I can imagine this is now going to be a regular thing with the environment becoming more of an issue, and the history of groups going "Are you sustainable?"
To be fair, it's not hard to position the Switch as the more economical console when the other two are raising game prices and console prices (mostly Sony because of ballooning budgets to be fair, but Xbox seems intent to follow), and they also drink electricity like a drunk goes through wine.
Who knew stepping away from the graphical arms race would mean you can make a profit on every console sold, giving you greater price flexibility if needed instead of selling for a loss and then raising prices so you don't sell for even more of a loss, and also meaning you don't have to spend as much on games meaning those orofits don't just go into the next sequel, but across the business to fund more variety and niche products to get a broader userbase buying the console that makes a profit.
@EarthboundBenjy @Yosher Doesnt look like mobile gaming specifically, rather a company set up to control the digital aspects of Nintendo's business. So Nintendo Accounts, online stuff etc.
I don't think anyone actually knows how much sway Nintendo has with TPC. For instance, they aren't mentioned at all on the mobile games that TPC has made, and Nintendo also wasn't allowed to use the Pokemon amiibo for anything in Yoshi's Woolly World, but could for all the third parties including Square Enix, nor Mario Maker where the Pokemon didn't get unique sounds.
So how much sway they actually have and what 33% they do own is unknown.
Heck Ishihara went on record saying he wouldn't make games for the Switch initially. Sounds like something they dont have that much say in beyond contractual obligations to a cut of revenue.
@Anti-Matter Can't wait for her Electric types to be immune to Ground via ability or typing, or just Terastalize into a type that mops up Ground entirely. That seems to be a thing they're doing based on the Grass Gym.
@RupeeClock Jun Senoue did work on Sonic 3, one of his earliest SEGA credits actually, along with series composer Howard Drossin, they would later go on to Sonic 3D Blast.
I believe Jun did the bonus stage music in Sonic 3
@ModdedInkling It's easy to think that Nintendo is why this happened, pulling TPC's arm.
But remember, TPC doesnt credit Nintendo on any of their mobile games, despite being one third of the property owner, nor did TPC let Nintendo use Pokemon amiibo for anything in Yoshi's Crafted World, or Mario Maker. You just got either a sprite with generic sounds, or a generic amiibo shirt.
That's a little weird that a company Nintendo can apparently control wouldn't let them use an IP they therefore own to its full extent in their own games, yet third parties are gung-ho for it, isn't it?
@TheRealKyleHyde You'd disagree that it is an adjective, but that's the issue.
Should the word go the way of Coke or App Store etc. it would mean that, because the English language is such a broken mess, it could be challenged legally as something that people don't use as a noun anymore for it's intended purpose.
But that challenge can only happen in the first place because English is such a hilarious mess that it constantly changes. By using "Nintendo" to refer to a generic swath of things and brands, it can be argued it is a descriptor rather than a noun. A category of sorts.
And then we get into the whole is it an adverb, oroper noun, should copyright law account for x y and z. At least English just gender everything like many other languages.
@Degenerate_Mii It's married to the idea for the sake of game developers, explicitly third parties.
The more the OS has going on, the less RAM developers will have access to, and also the longer it can take to load into a game.
Never forget the Wii U OS load times because of how much the OS had going on, how busy it was and how much it did. The Switch OS is mere megabytes of RAM usage. If it had music, more visuals etc, thats more that needs to be loaded.
Heck, there were games on the 3DS, such as Smash and Generation 7 of Pokemon that took a really long time to boot, and also took a long time to go back to the Home menu. The reason?
The games upon boot had to tell the OS to effectively turn itself off so the games could load, stripping it down to the absolute bare minimum needed so the game could load what it needed to into RAM.
@Stocksy It was a clarification to another user's statement.
I didn't say it was good. In fact, I haven't shared my view on NSO, and it's probably a lot less positive than you imagine given my seething hatred for the N64.
@fafonio I remember when I first picked up Gen 1 and picked up Bulbasaur.
I walked through Brock and Misty. Sometimes the choices for your team make the game laughable.
Of course Pokemon has always been for all players. So maybe difficulty options would be good.
I feel Arceus leans too far in the wrong direction. The game has completed reworked stats where weaker Pokemon are artificially scaled up so sometimes a 50 level gap isn't enough to one shot, and your opponents can also move up to 4 times before you do if they play their cards right, and they can, especially in the post game. Heck, I've been one shot by stuff way lower level than me with a simple weakness, not even 4x effective. Work that out.
@fafonio So, it's well documented, but BDSP gets borderline unfair at the end game. I was in your boat, fighting every trainer and around 10 levels over everything with a full team of 6. I wasn't so overlevelled as everyone else claims to be, so I don't know what I'm not doing that everyone else is, but when you end up battling perfectly trained Pokemon with perfect stats, hidden abilities no in game trainer has ever used before, competitive movesets and items and team synergy, you'll be glad you're overlevelled.
Fun fact, if you don't want to get outsoed and basically one shot by Cynthia's Garchomp, you'll need a Pokemon with a speed stat of 235 I believe.
As for Arceus, in that game chances are you WILL be underlevelled, and you will get one shot. A lot. Trainers don't let you switch after koing a Pokemon, and several use multiple Pokemon at once against your one.
Like Fortnite. And Google. And the Epic Games Store. And Disney +. All services impacted by this outage.
All those companies and services use Amazon servers too. However, not all eggs are in one basket. This isnt the days of Wii Connect that was on a service that went bust.
Heck, if Cloudflare ever goes down, it takes half the internet with it.
You can have your own server farms, but the tech will be owned by someone else. Just how it is. Look at Microsoft with Azure.
@uptownsoul No, the Sony option was very much on the cards given they extended exclusivity with FF7 Remake past the initial date, as noted in the small print.
It was just the less likely of the two, but no less a possibility.
Regarding the MH Rise comparison, nice try, but the Capcom Megaleak that revealed the PC version before they told us, and Capcom's plans up to 2025 or so, noted Nintendo paid very handsomely for timed exclusivity.
So yeah, people blame Nintendo for Monster Hunter Rise taking a while to hit PC. Because we know factually its true.
@uptownsoul Which is why I believe option 1 is the most likely, as I explained in that comment: Epic Games.
"the implementation of cross-play etc. is taking them a while on the back end, likely due to Epic Games integration and the like, after they were bought in the summer."
You get a small team being bought by that AFTER announcing these two versions, then doing all the backend changes for cross progression, Epic Accounts, eventual cross play etc etc. While making new content.
So as I stated in the initial comment, yes, I agree with you. It is one of the two possibilities I listed. Thanks for reading!
@Gamer_Zeus See, I'd make an argument in agreement that it's probably too expensive for Rockstar.
If this wasn't Rockstar.
You know. GTAV selling new copies + in app purchases every week, Rockstar. One of the most successful games ever, Rockstar. Remastering three of their classics too.
The fact the remakes feel so cheap, and they didn't spring the cash on proper physical copies despite the absolutely monumental slam dunk this game could have been...is hilarious.
Then again, it's not like Rockstar doesn't have history here. L.A Noire was a huge download and less than 4GB on the card.
Or on the disc, as was the case on the other systems too. Downloaded most of the game there too.
Either the implementation of cross-play etc. is taking them a while on the back end, likely due to Epic Games integration and the like, after they were bought in the summer.
The other, is PlayStation. Exclusive PlayStation costumes have been popping up very heavily recently, and it wouldn't shock me if they pulled a FF7 Remake and actually extended the timed exclusivity here.
The other option, also tied to PlayStation, is cross play itself. Epic in court revealed the PS cross play policy, wherein if they provide loads of players, but the in-app purchases on other platforms are not proportional to what PS THINKS they should be getting for providing those players, they demand compensation.
Given Sony paid for Fall Guys to launch on PS Plus, and thus be free, and was also the most downloaded PS Plus game ever at the time, that's a LOT of players, and now cross progression is a thing, purchases dont have to be on PlayStation for those players.

@MrHonest Why would they make it exclusive? Think about it.
Right now Microsoft gets 30% of any CoD related purchase on Xbox.

If you're gonna leave that kind of money on the table you're out of your damn mind.

@uptownsoul No, the Sony option was very much on the cards given they extended exclusivity with FF7 Remake past the initial date, as noted in the small print.

Re: Sorry Folks, Fall Guys For Nintendo Switch Won't Be Released This Year
@uptownsoul That was the situation with more complex permutations and possibilities.
With Epic, based on what we know, it's a simple cut and dry reason as to why.
With the other option being Playstation, there are several reasons they would do it, hence it took more time to spell it out.
Y'all need to stop being so paranoid. Not everything has hidden meanings or purpose.
Re: Sorry Folks, Fall Guys For Nintendo Switch Won't Be Released This Year
@uptownsoul Which is why I believe option 1 is the most likely, as I explained in that comment: Epic Games.

Then again, it's not like Rockstar doesn't have history here. L.A Noire was a huge download and less than 4GB on the card.
Or on the disc, as was the case on the other systems too. Downloaded most of the game there too.
Re: Sorry Folks, Fall Guys For Nintendo Switch Won't Be Released This Year
@OnlyItsMeReid In my mind it's one of two things.
