Re: New Switch Model Could Launch For $399, Analysts Suggest

Haruki_NLI

@RudyC3 It was using tech that was only two years old.

That's also what the PS4 and Xbox One did. Used tech that was already a known thing. PS5 and Series systems have avoided this by using stuff that is brand new (Within a year) but within two to three years THAT will be outdated. But the cost of using brand new is...well its new. It costs a hell of a lot more to make. It depends on the business priorities at hand.

If this is real, then being the first console to have any AI upscaling tech built into the silicon is a huge thing, given DLSS 2.0 isnt even massively adopted into PC games yet.

Re: There Are "No Plans" To Bring The Full Pokédex To Pokémon Sword And Shield, And Future Games Will Follow Suit

"But the way of playing is actually not very different from before with Pokemon Bank: up until now, you have always only been able to meet Pokemon from a certain region."

But....with Pokemon Bank even if the Pokemon wasn't in a certain region....you could still use it.

So no, you havent always only been able to meet Pokemon from a certain region. That's only started with Let's Go.

Re: PlayStation 4 Just Overtook Wii's Lifetime Sales

Haruki_NLI

@AlexSora89 They are having a field day with this.

Namely how NintendoLife reported this more accurately than they did. Here its the 2nd best selling home console, 4th overall.

There its just the second best selling console ever. Apparently the GameBoy and DS dont exist, as "It only has to pass the PS2"

Re: Mario Kart Tour's Diddy Kong Pack Costs £39, The Same Price As Mario Kart 8 Deluxe On Switch

Haruki_NLI

@blecch For them, as has been stated numerous times, the opportunity of these IP appearing on mobile in the hands of millions of players isn't for the money, but for the marketing.

Much like with the theme parks and upcoming movie, they want their brands to be more recognised. This is just one form of marketing for the Switch. Introduce these IP, and then people will see the Switch and their games, and some will move over. Not all, but some.

And if the mobile games make money, well some of that can be funnelled into making more mobile games, advertising more IP, more people into Switch games, rinse and repeat.

@Incoherent1 Unfortunately it IS what the public wants. They did want the £7.99 Super Mario Run. Core gamers did, the audience the game was made for, didn't.

But THIS is what they want.

Re: Mario Kart Tour's Diddy Kong Pack Costs £39, The Same Price As Mario Kart 8 Deluxe On Switch

Haruki_NLI

I mean, if you try a monetisation model that core gamers like on mobile only far, far cheaper, and the mobile market rejects it, what's the next step?

Do what that market responds to.

Remember at this point Nintendo has never had a game you buy upfront with microtransactions.

This is what that ecosystem demands. They tried the traditional method, I mean it was £7.99, and mobile players said no.

But they'll spend £40 in one go for a character.

That's just how it is. Can't blame them for appealing to the market they want to reach.

Re: UK Charts: Zelda: Link's Awakening Scores Nintendo Another Number One

Haruki_NLI

@ShaiHulud Ni No Kuni Remastered charted lower than the Switch version. I havent seen much if any marketing outside of Nintendo DIrects so that may be why.

But god on Zelda! When do we get to the point where Switch has more UK #1s than all other Nintendo systems combined? Especially the 3DS and Wii U didn't manage any, and the last one before Switch was a DS game in 2011.

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield's 'Glitched' Pokémon Is Sirfetch’d, A Version-Exclusive

Haruki_NLI

@clvr You raise an excellent point. This is unusual and unique for a Pokemon to completely change type in a single evolution.

But then again once upon a time form changes like Deoxys didn't exist. Then they gave normal non-legendary Pokemon form changes.

Then we also never had a Fairy type. We never had a legendary that could evolve before, but Cosmog happened. Ultra Beasts we're thought to be unable to evolve. Then Poipole happened.

Adding Pokemon mid-generation? Unheard of. Then it happened. A mythical Pokemon that can evolve? Surely not right? Meltan exists now.

A move that has two types? It exists. A pure Flying type exists.

Just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it won't. Ever since Gen 3 the impossible has been happening. And now it seems evolutions to totally different types are possible. Just like evolving legendaries and mid generation additions.

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield's 'Glitched' Pokémon Is Sirfetch’d, A Version-Exclusive

Haruki_NLI

@RupeeClock I dont think its right stating that Sirfetch'd is a Galarian evolution.

Yes, Obstagoon is, but its specifically stated to only evolve from Galarian Linoone, thats why.

This evolves from any Farfetch'd. Much like how previous generations would introduce evolutions to old Pokemon such as Eevee, Tangela, Magmar, Yanma, Lickitung….

Those weren't "Insert region here" exclusive. They were just introduced then. Unless stated that Sirfetch'd can evolve from Farfetch'd found in Galar exclusively, then this is just a normal evolution.

Re: Microsoft Focused On Launching Ori Sequel Exclusively On Xbox One And PC

Haruki_NLI

@GrailUK Yeah that's true.

To imply Xbox isn't getting anything from this is insane though.

They get more Xbox Live users, which they live touting

All developers on a platform get majority revenue split of game sales, so Nintendo isn't even making that much compared to Xbox on the games they port.

And remember Nintendo would have had to pay MICROSOFT for Banjo. Not the other way around.

Putting Nintendo games on Xbox would benefit Nintendo more than Microsoft, not the other way around.

Re: Microsoft Focused On Launching Ori Sequel Exclusively On Xbox One And PC

Haruki_NLI

@Razer Xbox us already getting stuff back though.

Users for Xbox Live via Minecraft.
As publisher of Ori, Minecraft, and Cuphead they get the Lions share of sales revenue as does any developer. Nintendo takes their minority cut, Xbox gets the rest as publisher. Its believed to be around 70%.
They also get the likely large lump sum for licensing of Banjo in Smash, as Nintendo will have had to pay them for that, and it could even extend to a cut of the DLC Revenue too equivalent to what Banjo is worth as a stand alone download.

Xbox is getting stuff back. They are getting a boatload of cash.

All Nintendo is getting is a little extra cash and a handful of games.
