This is the guy that ended up Gen 1 pandering and losing what made the series popular: Evolution.
When Ohmori got the chance to direct both ORAS and then Sun and moon, it was a huge change after the lacklustre XY. I tend to agree with Masuda that his magnum opus was Gen 5, because after that...wow.
@RadioHedgeFund It's based on the ancient belief that metal was a mystical element, as this is worshipped as the creator of metals.
So ya know, alchemy. Plus, they don't always have to be based on mythology. This is also based, in a more modern sense, on the understood properties of mercury to amalgamate.
@Donutman That doesn't excuse the fact that controls in remasters have changed before and will again in future from the original releases.
Further, the notion of changing a game's confirm and cancel buttons not just between consoles but even languages is most definitely not unheard of. Why wasn't it done here?
Further to THAT, all that and your comments don't excuse the fact there is a menu option to change this to your preference that you can't even access.
The problem with point 1 is sure, it will reduce the shock.
But for the people who were overwhelmed by the jump from say, Gen 2 to 3? They couldnt cope with that. How will they manage going from 1 to 8?
As for the controller thing, given you can hold the player two controller and player one controller on your own in the same way many games are played normally...this can snap the game over your knee.
This all seems accessible but it doesnt answer the question of getting those fans to cope with the sheer jump
You said something on the internet that is the equivalent of "My iPhone got a software update that makes it waterproof" only not quite so asinine.
Now I think about it they could have lotentially repurposed some capacitors or something if they were just laying around, but the actual screen panels themselves, yeah no they kinda got thrown out. Don't see those coming back.
Unless they make some kind of 4DS.
It's funny you mention repurposing spare parts though as the Pro Controller just uses a 3DS battery. God knows how many of those they had laying around.
@Pete41608 "I just assumed they took unsold Wii U gp screens or whatever and repurposed them for the Switch's use."
If they did that, then those screens not only magically changed from one point resistive touch screens to 10-point capacitive, but also changed to higher quality LCDs at a higher display resolution of 720p instead of 480p, during this "Repurposing".
Amazing what leaving unused materials in a warehouse will do: Like wine, it matures apparently.
@b0nes @Bunkerneath Reminds me of an article I once read that was almost exclusively the names of tropes from TVTropes, so every point in the article, several times per sentence, was effectovely an entire page on another site you needed to read for context.
@Galenmereth "So remind me again why you want us to pay for your online "service", Nintendo?"
Simple. Investors see Sony and MS making money hand over fist for effectively nothing, and since Nintendo is a publicly traded business they need to answer to those demands, plain and simple.
You wouldn't be insane enough to tell the people sending cash your way that no, this free, proven, easy money on the table isn't worth it.
Ever since they mentioned paid online in January 2017, I have noticed this entire thing feels reluctant. Honestly it seems like even Nintendo themselves don't want to do it.
I would care but given its not releasing in this nebulous void that sits east of the US and west of Japan that the games industry hates to acknowledge then I simply cant care.

Re: Review: Dragalia Lost - A Deep And Rewarding Smartphone RPG That Might Just Surprise You
"You really should give it a try".
When it comes to Europe, sure. For now, how?
Re: Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu And Eevee Won't Include Pro Controller Support
@thesilverbrick The primary publisher is TPCi. TPCi determines the ultimate direction of the games. It is their decision alongside Game Freak.
Re: Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu And Eevee Won't Include Pro Controller Support
I mean...it wasn't Nintendo's decision to leave out Pro Controller support given they aren't the developer/publisher so...
Ya know.
Blame the actual parties here.
But still, yeah, that's dumb.
Like not being able to disable motion.
Heck, most of the decision in this game are dumb.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct Announced For 1st November
@rjejr You know they are reprinting the Smash series amiibo right, and Wii Fit Trainer is one of them XD

Re: Nintendo's UK Chart Presence Takes A Beating This Week As Multi-Platform Stars Lead The Charge
I dunno if Pokemon is gonna make much difference tbh. The mobile crowd are happy on mobile here.
And Smash is Smash so....role on 2D Mario that will be new to the population of the UK because "Nintendo hasnt made a system since the Wii"
Re: Soapbox: It's Not Cool To Lock Pokémon Behind A Paywall
Last I checked weren't loads of events previously locked behind a paywall of travelling to certain places to get a gift Pokemon?
Also...Meltan is a Gen 7 Pokemon. Its been released in a Gen 7 game. Its Gen 7. Just like the 5 new creatures added in Ultra. Its Gen 7.

Re: Super Mario Party Still Partying Hard In Japanese Charts, Dark Souls Enters At Number Four
@Agramonte Im fairly certain if Crash released in Japan on Switch at the Same time it would have fared better. Same with just Dark Souls in general.
But I suppose thats the downside of an underpowered system. You get stuff late and it spirals down leaving only the real systems in the race.

Re: Video: Even Menu Controls Are Challenging In The Switch Version Of Dark Souls
@Dalarrun Interesting. Seems there is more with this remaster than first thought.
Re: Video: Even Menu Controls Are Challenging In The Switch Version Of Dark Souls
@Dalarrun No it's not, but that doesn't excuse the developers leaving in a lure to change the controls and then not letting you.
If you're going to keep it to something non-standard for the platform, don't pretend like there is an alternative, you know?

Re: Video: Even Menu Controls Are Challenging In The Switch Version Of Dark Souls
Why is there an option in the menu to rebind controls...that you cant use?

Still my favourite game ever.
So a port is welcomed

No, it's really not.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Has Exceeded Expectations Following Strong Sales Outside Of Japan
I remember when the expansion pass was announced and people called it a ripoff.
Good times.
Anyway I'm up for either a return to X or a new direction. Let's leave the fantasy stuff behind.

@Arcade_Tokyo That's a thing they have? Wow.
Different cultures indeed.
Re: It Sucks To Say It, But Castlevania Requiem Isn't Coming To Switch
Snake got into Brawl to advertise his new game on other systems.
Simon and Richter got into Ultimate to advertise their games on other systems.
I'm seeing a trend...

@b0nes @Bunkerneath Reminds me of an article I once read that was almost exclusively the names of tropes from TVTropes, so every point in the article, several times per sentence, was effectovely an entire page on another site you needed to read for context.
Cute gimmick, failed as a writer.
Re: Feature: Five Lessons From The Tokyo Game Show 2018
Number 3 made no sense.
It starts as if you want people to catch other people being pervs then goes into some overly verbose literary battle to decode.
Re: Talking Point: What We Love And Hate About The Nintendo Switch Online Smartphone App
I use Discord, but that's not exclusive to Switch things as an alternative.
It's the same with PS4 and Xbox One and even native VC via PC Games. Discord is just better.

Re: Soapbox: We Like To Grumble, But Nintendo Switch Online Is Actually A Very Generous Offer

Why?

Re: Switch Retail Game Sales In Japan Surpass Lifetime Wii U Retail Sales In 18 Months
The software attach rate on this thing is maddening. People just want to play games on it.
Re: Illegal Game Sharing Site Mocks Nintendo's Recent Legal Actions With Trolling Video
I call this "Natural Selection" in practice.
The stupid don't get to go on.

Okay I'm deleting that comment now. I've had enough.

Digital only on Switch regardless of region, and digital only period in Europe.
Because of course it is.
Either way, this release just shy of my birthday so...I'll get it.
