When Ohmori got the chance to direct both ORAS and then Sun and moon, it was a huge change after the lacklustre XY. I tend to agree with Masuda that his magnum opus was Gen 5, because after that...wow.

@Agramonte Im fairly certain if Crash released in Japan on Switch at the Same time it would have fared better. Same with just Dark Souls in general.

But I suppose thats the downside of an underpowered system. You get stuff late and it spirals down leaving only the real systems in the race.

@Dalarrun No it's not, but that doesn't excuse the developers leaving in a lure to change the controls and then not letting you.

If you're going to keep it to something non-standard for the platform, don't pretend like there is an alternative, you know?

Further, the notion of changing a game's confirm and cancel buttons not just between consoles but even languages is most definitely not unheard of. Why wasn't it done here?

Further to THAT, all that and your comments don't excuse the fact there is a menu option to change this to your preference that you can't even access.

Why is there an option in the menu to rebind controls...that you cant use?

No, it's really not.

The problem with point 1 is sure, it will reduce the shock.

But for the people who were overwhelmed by the jump from say, Gen 2 to 3? They couldnt cope with that. How will they manage going from 1 to 8?

As for the controller thing, given you can hold the player two controller and player one controller on your own in the same way many games are played normally...this can snap the game over your knee.

This all seems accessible but it doesnt answer the question of getting those fans to cope with the sheer jump

You said something on the internet that is the equivalent of "My iPhone got a software update that makes it waterproof" only not quite so asinine.

Now I think about it they could have lotentially repurposed some capacitors or something if they were just laying around, but the actual screen panels themselves, yeah no they kinda got thrown out. Don't see those coming back.

It's funny you mention repurposing spare parts though as the Pro Controller just uses a 3DS battery. God knows how many of those they had laying around.

If they did that, then those screens not only magically changed from one point resistive touch screens to 10-point capacitive, but also changed to higher quality LCDs at a higher display resolution of 720p instead of 480p, during this "Repurposing".

I use Discord, but that's not exclusive to Switch things as an alternative.

It's the same with PS4 and Xbox One and even native VC via PC Games. Discord is just better.

Simple. Investors see Sony and MS making money hand over fist for effectively nothing, and since Nintendo is a publicly traded business they need to answer to those demands, plain and simple.

You wouldn't be insane enough to tell the people sending cash your way that no, this free, proven, easy money on the table isn't worth it.

Ever since they mentioned paid online in January 2017, I have noticed this entire thing feels reluctant. Honestly it seems like even Nintendo themselves don't want to do it.

The software attach rate on this thing is maddening. People just want to play games on it.
