Re: Pokémon Dev Job Listing References R&D For Next-Generation Hardware

Haruki_NLI

@ThePizzaCheese Interesting you say that.

I don't think anyone actually knows how much sway Nintendo has with TPC. For instance, they aren't mentioned at all on the mobile games that TPC has made, and Nintendo also wasn't allowed to use the Pokemon amiibo for anything in Yoshi's Woolly World, but could for all the third parties including Square Enix, nor Mario Maker where the Pokemon didn't get unique sounds.

So how much sway they actually have and what 33% they do own is unknown.

Heck Ishihara went on record saying he wouldn't make games for the Switch initially. Sounds like something they dont have that much say in beyond contractual obligations to a cut of revenue.

Re: UK Charts: FIFA 23 Knocks Splatoon 3 Off The Top Spot

Haruki_NLI

@iLikeUrAttitude So if a game uses the same engine as the previous one, it's a rehash? Interesting.

Mario Odyssey, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, ARMS...all run in the same engine.

And....I'd actually kind of hope they'd use the same engine for Splatoon 3? Otherwise that's a whole load of unnecessary work.

Re: "Screw This Game" - Sonic Origins Modder Halts Development On Massive Patch

Haruki_NLI

@Fizza @Luminous117 There was a game called Sonic Genesis on the GBA. This was a port of Sonic 1. Fairly simple thing.

To do it, they took the Genesis code and put it in the Sonic Advance engine, and as we know the games in that series are...remarkably different.

In doing this the cheap and easy way, SEGA ended up with the worst running version of Sonic 1.

And then Stealth went and proved it could have been done properly anyway.

So that's how you screw it up. Be SEGA.

Re: The Official Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Sound Library Will Be Shut Down Next Week

Haruki_NLI

@ModdedInkling It's easy to think that Nintendo is why this happened, pulling TPC's arm.

But remember, TPC doesnt credit Nintendo on any of their mobile games, despite being one third of the property owner, nor did TPC let Nintendo use Pokemon amiibo for anything in Yoshi's Crafted World, or Mario Maker. You just got either a sprite with generic sounds, or a generic amiibo shirt.

That's a little weird that a company Nintendo can apparently control wouldn't let them use an IP they therefore own to its full extent in their own games, yet third parties are gung-ho for it, isn't it?

Re: Random: Here's Why Nintendo Doesn’t Want You Using The Word "Nintendo" To Describe Video Games

Haruki_NLI

@TheRealKyleHyde You'd disagree that it is an adjective, but that's the issue.

Should the word go the way of Coke or App Store etc. it would mean that, because the English language is such a broken mess, it could be challenged legally as something that people don't use as a noun anymore for it's intended purpose.

But that challenge can only happen in the first place because English is such a hilarious mess that it constantly changes. By using "Nintendo" to refer to a generic swath of things and brands, it can be argued it is a descriptor rather than a noun. A category of sorts.

And then we get into the whole is it an adverb, oroper noun, should copyright law account for x y and z. At least English just gender everything like many other languages.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Finally Gave Us Switch Folders, In A Very Nintendo Way

Haruki_NLI

@Degenerate_Mii It's married to the idea for the sake of game developers, explicitly third parties.

The more the OS has going on, the less RAM developers will have access to, and also the longer it can take to load into a game.

Never forget the Wii U OS load times because of how much the OS had going on, how busy it was and how much it did. The Switch OS is mere megabytes of RAM usage. If it had music, more visuals etc, thats more that needs to be loaded.

Heck, there were games on the 3DS, such as Smash and Generation 7 of Pokemon that took a really long time to boot, and also took a long time to go back to the Home menu. The reason?

The games upon boot had to tell the OS to effectively turn itself off so the games could load, stripping it down to the absolute bare minimum needed so the game could load what it needed to into RAM.

Re: Pokémon's Diamond And Pearl Remakes Have Been Updated To Version 1.3.0, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Haruki_NLI

@fafonio I remember when I first picked up Gen 1 and picked up Bulbasaur.

I walked through Brock and Misty. Sometimes the choices for your team make the game laughable.

Of course Pokemon has always been for all players. So maybe difficulty options would be good.

I feel Arceus leans too far in the wrong direction. The game has completed reworked stats where weaker Pokemon are artificially scaled up so sometimes a 50 level gap isn't enough to one shot, and your opponents can also move up to 4 times before you do if they play their cards right, and they can, especially in the post game. Heck, I've been one shot by stuff way lower level than me with a simple weakness, not even 4x effective. Work that out.

Re: Pokémon's Diamond And Pearl Remakes Have Been Updated To Version 1.3.0, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Haruki_NLI

@fafonio So, it's well documented, but BDSP gets borderline unfair at the end game. I was in your boat, fighting every trainer and around 10 levels over everything with a full team of 6. I wasn't so overlevelled as everyone else claims to be, so I don't know what I'm not doing that everyone else is, but when you end up battling perfectly trained Pokemon with perfect stats, hidden abilities no in game trainer has ever used before, competitive movesets and items and team synergy, you'll be glad you're overlevelled.

Fun fact, if you don't want to get outsoed and basically one shot by Cynthia's Garchomp, you'll need a Pokemon with a speed stat of 235 I believe.

As for Arceus, in that game chances are you WILL be underlevelled, and you will get one shot. A lot. Trainers don't let you switch after koing a Pokemon, and several use multiple Pokemon at once against your one.

One trainer even has a team of 8.

So you know, pick your difficulty I guess 🤣

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Hit By Amazon Web Service Outages

Haruki_NLI

@nukatha Ah yes.

Like Fortnite. And Google. And the Epic Games Store. And Disney +. All services impacted by this outage.

All those companies and services use Amazon servers too. However, not all eggs are in one basket. This isnt the days of Wii Connect that was on a service that went bust.

Heck, if Cloudflare ever goes down, it takes half the internet with it.

You can have your own server farms, but the tech will be owned by someone else. Just how it is. Look at Microsoft with Azure.

Re: Sorry Folks, Fall Guys For Nintendo Switch Won't Be Released This Year

Haruki_NLI

@uptownsoul No, the Sony option was very much on the cards given they extended exclusivity with FF7 Remake past the initial date, as noted in the small print.

It was just the less likely of the two, but no less a possibility.

Regarding the MH Rise comparison, nice try, but the Capcom Megaleak that revealed the PC version before they told us, and Capcom's plans up to 2025 or so, noted Nintendo paid very handsomely for timed exclusivity.

So yeah, people blame Nintendo for Monster Hunter Rise taking a while to hit PC. Because we know factually its true.

Nice try though.

Re: Sorry Folks, Fall Guys For Nintendo Switch Won't Be Released This Year

Haruki_NLI

@uptownsoul That was the situation with more complex permutations and possibilities.

With Epic, based on what we know, it's a simple cut and dry reason as to why.

With the other option being Playstation, there are several reasons they would do it, hence it took more time to spell it out.

Y'all need to stop being so paranoid. Not everything has hidden meanings or purpose.

Re: Sorry Folks, Fall Guys For Nintendo Switch Won't Be Released This Year

Haruki_NLI

@uptownsoul Which is why I believe option 1 is the most likely, as I explained in that comment: Epic Games.

"the implementation of cross-play etc. is taking them a while on the back end, likely due to Epic Games integration and the like, after they were bought in the summer."

You get a small team being bought by that AFTER announcing these two versions, then doing all the backend changes for cross progression, Epic Accounts, eventual cross play etc etc. While making new content.

So as I stated in the initial comment, yes, I agree with you. It is one of the two possibilities I listed. Thanks for reading!

Re: GTA Trilogy's Physical Edition For Switch Has Been Delayed, Will Now Arrive In "Early 2022"

Haruki_NLI

@Gamer_Zeus See, I'd make an argument in agreement that it's probably too expensive for Rockstar.

If this wasn't Rockstar.

You know. GTAV selling new copies + in app purchases every week, Rockstar. One of the most successful games ever, Rockstar. Remastering three of their classics too.

The fact the remakes feel so cheap, and they didn't spring the cash on proper physical copies despite the absolutely monumental slam dunk this game could have been...is hilarious.

Then again, it's not like Rockstar doesn't have history here. L.A Noire was a huge download and less than 4GB on the card.

Or on the disc, as was the case on the other systems too. Downloaded most of the game there too.

Re: Sorry Folks, Fall Guys For Nintendo Switch Won't Be Released This Year

Haruki_NLI

@OnlyItsMeReid In my mind it's one of two things.

Either the implementation of cross-play etc. is taking them a while on the back end, likely due to Epic Games integration and the like, after they were bought in the summer.

The other, is PlayStation. Exclusive PlayStation costumes have been popping up very heavily recently, and it wouldn't shock me if they pulled a FF7 Remake and actually extended the timed exclusivity here.

The other option, also tied to PlayStation, is cross play itself. Epic in court revealed the PS cross play policy, wherein if they provide loads of players, but the in-app purchases on other platforms are not proportional to what PS THINKS they should be getting for providing those players, they demand compensation.

Given Sony paid for Fall Guys to launch on PS Plus, and thus be free, and was also the most downloaded PS Plus game ever at the time, that's a LOT of players, and now cross progression is a thing, purchases dont have to be on PlayStation for those players.

Re: Pokémon's Diamond & Pearl Remakes Become The Second Biggest Switch Game Launch In Japan

Haruki_NLI

@nintendoknife I mean, currently, since I own a digital PS5 (Which I had on order and obviously couldnt change BEFORE Sony announced the new prices) the actual cost of first party PS5 games is....still really high, even on sale. Some are maybe £20 off now....which is £50. Some only get £5 or £10 off in initial sales, if that.

I'd argue it's worse than Nintendo in that regard, because at least on the eShop you know it's going from £50 to £34 in a sale.

Re: Pokémon's Diamond & Pearl Remakes Become The Second Biggest Switch Game Launch In Japan

Haruki_NLI

@Dragonite89 It's not an excuse.

It's how the world has worked for decades.

We end up paying more for the same or less. Look at Sony. £70 games that used to be £50. Are they necessarily doing more? No. Half of them are also available for that lower price but sell at the higher price.

Why? Consumerism.

We don't like it, but it's how the world works my friend.

We're very similar. We both inherently disagree with this. However, after studying economics and business for years, working my way through a discount retail store for a few years, and just seeing different markets grow and shrink, I became numb to it.

This is the way the world works. Yep. It sucks. It's scummy. It's exploitative.

Can't do anything about it though. So spend your money you earn from producing goods and services that may or may not be overpriced for what they are, or used to be, on other goods and services you deem worth it to you.

That's all we can do. You can't tell other people what to do with their money. Put needs before wants, beyond that, everyone is on this ride for a different reason.

Re: Pokémon's Diamond & Pearl Remakes Become The Second Biggest Switch Game Launch In Japan

Haruki_NLI

@Dragonite89 But you did get what you paid for.

The companies produce goods and services, set a price they deem the market will accept, the market purchases the goods and services at that price.

You would have made the choice to buy it, at that price, knowing what it is. You literally got what you paid for.

Clearly this strategy works. It's worked for decades in gaming, hundreds of years for everything else.

Yeah, it sucks. We all know it sucks. Games often cost more to buy than we believe they are valued but....there are billions of people who think otherwise. I think bread is too expensive for what it is but tough that's the market price people are willing to pay for just a load of processed grains.

Again, life sucks, money sucks, consumerism sucks.

But we also ain't gonna change it having a screaming fit on a forum now are we?

Re: Bravely Default II Has Almost Reached One Million Sales On Nintendo Switch

Haruki_NLI

@SmileMan64 @zool It's also SquareEnix. They are hilariously bad at accurate sales projections.

Tomb Raider didn't make it's money back because it didn't sell multi-millions, the whole Outriders situation?

Heck, the Hitman games sold really well and "didn't make enough money to be a success" so they drop the developers who make Hitman 3 on their own and it's profitable in a week.

So yeah. This game probably hasn't done well enough for them yet.

Re: Saber Interactive Set To Boost Switch Porting Business With Acquisitions

Haruki_NLI

@Mr-Fuggles777 I wouldn't say you need another console. We know the PS5 can't do 4K at 60fps all too often without upscaling techniques. Even the upcoming PS4 enhanced Ghost of Tsushima port only targets 4K and aims for 60fps. Ratchet and Clank can't do 4K 60fps without cutting ray tracing out. Returnal rendered natively at 1080p and then upscaled.

If you want actual next gen graphics and experiences, you need a PC. The PS5 is an exclusives box, and even then we know where those games look to end up soon.

Personally, I either need a portable system for work, or an actual 4K capable machine for home. So for me, I need a Switch to supplement my PC. The PS5 I own is barely touched. What it does well, it does well, but it's not giving me the performance it claimed it would.

And this is the crux of the issue. Of course developers can build with Switch first. If they manage to do it between PS4 and PS5, or even PS5 and PC, they can do it for Switch up to PC.
