We've got an update on the long-rumoured Metroid Prime Trilogy remaster that's supposedly heading to Nintendo Switch.
According to the proven industry insider and VentureBeat journalist, Jeff Grubb, the development of the Switch version has already been completed and it's now just a matter of Nintendo finding the "right time" to release it.
On this week's episode of his Giant Bomb show (pay wall), the source of the latest update said the video game giant is waiting for best moment to reveal and release the trilogy - with the pandemic still causing some problems along with the delay of Metroid Prime 4.
Here's exactly what Jeff had to say (thanks, VGC):
“The game is done and Nintendo is holding it... whether or not Nintendo releases it now or later depends on other factors... I think that game is sitting in their pocket for whenever Nintendo decides it’s the right time, and Nintendo’s done this a lot recently so it’s not unusual, it’s not a sign of some bad thing happening, it’s not a sign of a lack of faith in Metroid… Nintendo can afford [to sit on it] and that’s how they’re treating it.”
“I think a big problem for Nintendo for quite some time during the pandemic was QA… I think Nintendo was focusing its quality assurance resources on one or two big projects at a time and that meant that some games that were basically finished were sitting on the side, while they had their lockdown secure QA processes focused on one or two more important games... Japan is still dealing with these issues so I don’t think those processes are going to open up any time soon.”
"The other factor for Metroid Prime Trilogy is that it’s definitely going to be a marketing beat for Metroid Prime 4, almost certainly. So right now we’re getting Metroid Dread this year and then I would imagine that Metroid Prime trilogy is something they’ll release close to the release of Metroid Prime 4, whenever that is.”
Back in 2019 the Game Informer senior editor at the time, Imran Khan, said the trilogy collection for Switch had been "long done" and also hinted how there was "more Metroid stuff" to anticipate. This was followed by a Swedish retailer listing the trilogy in May last year.
More recently, the former lead designer on all three Metroid Prime games shared their own thoughts about the trilogy coming to the Nintendo Switch and felt it was unlikely to happen. This response didn't go down well with some people within the Metroid community.
Do you think we'll ever see the Metroid Prime Trilogy on the Nintendo Switch? Leave a comment down below.

Yeah....just like the Switch Pro with 4K capabilities was ready and announcement was imminent before E3 - we all know how that turned out. Isn't this guy the one that once the Switch OLED was announced, is now saying that the Pro is coming next year?
As much as I would like it to be true as I missed the original trilogy - don't believe much of these predictions. Their guess is as good as ours.
This sounds like what was said in 2017 when it was to be revealed at the Game Awards.
And in 2018.
And in 2019.
Metroid Prime Trilogy HD is done. Its been done. It'll keep being done until Nintendo actually makes the thing and releases it one day according to this broken clock.
This is 100% true. I know a guy, and he's been telling me for months now that this trilogy is not only ready to go, but is the first native 4k game and will be bundled in with the Switch Pro when that is released next week.
Make up your mind already ninty, I'm dying to replay the first of those three and have been holding out because of such rumours, but where's the collection? I don't want to replay it now only to have the trilogy be announced officially the day after.
With dread coming out, and some comments made by Nintendo, it’s pretty clear they pushing in the chips with Metroid. I still think prime trilogy is a no brainer, I really do think it will come at some point
As I recall, the internal build date for Paper Mario Origami King was significantly earlier than when they revealed and released the game, or something like that.
Nintendo holds their cards close to their chest, and think carefully about when to release products to maximise their revenue as to not step on each-others toes or get overshadowed.
I mean, clearly the best time to actually give us the Prime Trilogy is in the time leading up to Prime 4's release and reveal.
When grubb a dub dub talks, I listen.
I can’t wait, hopefully they will release it this year. Or next year. Or 2023. Or 2024. Or 2025. Or 2026. Or 2027…
One day this will come out and the insiders will praise themselves.
I agree that I think they are basically sitting on it. As for when it will release I would estimate it would be 5/6 months before Metroid Prime 4, to build up the hype.
Whens that?? It's anyone's guess at this point....
I cant see them releasing a prime Trilogy. MP 3 would have to be completely redone, it was built for the Wii's motion control and I'm sure Nintendo would want full price for that kind of work (cough, cough #Skyward Sword).
It would also be a tough sell having the first 2 on 1 cart and then a separate full price release for Corruption. £100-£120 for the Trilogy would put most buyers off
So exactly the same rumor as last year with zero new insight or information? Nintendolife getting the SCOOPS!
Upvote if you wish NintendoLife had a rumor
filter so we didn’t have to suffer through this clickbait nonsense.
@RudyC3 I highly doubt it will be announced this year, if it’s even a thing. It would be silly to announce another Metroid while promoting Dread, it would just confuse things. I would just play it now if you want to.
Yay another post about a rumor that is not going to be true.
In the end, rumors like this (and the Switch Pro rumors) only hurt sales of games/systems that are released (Metroid Dread / Switch OLED)
@jonathangcohen this absolutely needs to happen.
@jonathangcohen *clickbait nincompoop
I don't think this will happen until the actual Switch Successor System comes out.
"I hear they are going to announce it at the Game Awards" - game industry insider 2017
"I hear they are going to announce it at the game awards" - Game industry insider 2018
"I hear they are going to announce it at the game awards" - Game industry insider 2019
@Mr-Fuggles777 your comment makes absolute no sense. By your logic, Mario 3D All-Stars would have had only Mario 64 and Sunshine, while Super Mario Galaxy would have been released separately at full price…
A full-on-cartridge trilogy release is definitely possible as the games themselves are not huge
Also the leakers should lay off the constipation pills. They really got us with their anal leaks full of rumours during the last few years, like the Switch pr0
Probably going to wait until closer to Prime 4's release, which is fine but heck I would be ok with them releasing it right now, but from a marketing standpoint I don't see that happening.
Yeah, makes sense. They’ll surprise release the trilogy the same day as the first trailer for Metroid Prime, 6 months before launch.
If it's real, I bet it would be between July and October next year. Gives enough time for Dread to have had it's spotlight, and far away enough from whenever Prime 4 is, that it doesn't steal sales from either.
i definitely think it's a possibility, maybe they'll wait to see how dread performs or maybe just to stall time for prime 4
@RupeeClock which is why we need only heard about skyward sword. In a couple months, Nintendo will shakedown release ww/tp ports in time for the holidays. I hope at least…
Already bought the trilogy on Wii U for cheap.
Not gonna buy this sloppy remaster for Switch if it's coming.
Oh no, lets not go through the rumour mill again...
I feel like Nintendo is that friend who wants to throw a nice surprise for us, something we've been waiting for and know we've wanted. Then leakers come in, with what little knowledge they have, suggest that there's always going to be more to the surprise. And then when Nintendo finally say 'SURPRISE! Look at this', we inevitably feel disappointed because the leaker promised so much more
But will it be released before wind waker and twilight princess or star fox racing ? I'll believe it the day nintendo will show it. If it's real like skyward sword hd, It will be great news but right now it's nothing but rumors.
October 2021 - Metroid Dread
October 2022 - Metroid Prime Trilogy
October 2023 - Metroid Prime 4
@jonathangcohen we might add a feature to do this one day, however, ‘Rumour’ is the first word in the headline on all articles like this, so they are clearly labelled and therefore really easy to ignore/skip if you don’t like reading about rumours. Lots of people do though 👍
@Nookingtons His uncle also works at Nintendo
"Nintendo can afford [to sit on it]"
Probably because they made it for pennies and will sell it for pounds.
I don't see anything stopping them releasing Prime 4 first (much like they did with Dread. Y'know, it's fine for folk to jump in to Metroid Prime with this game and look forward to future episodes.)
A trilogy with loads of hours gametime released so close to 4 could sate some hype whilst 4 would create hype for a collection.
Dunno. Who knows. Who cares. Does it matter?
Nintendo sitting on Metroid Prime Trilogy much like they have been sitting on Pikmin 4. That too was already "done" AGES ago...
I want to believe. Metroid Prime Trilogy would make my heart sing
Metroid Prime trilogy 4K coming to Switch "Pro" via Xbox pass.
Could we stop those stupid rumours coming up every 12 seconds? Naive people will be disappointed, just the way they were with the Switch OLED.
Oh yes please. And please PN 03 and Viewtiful Joe and 1080 Avalanche and Wave Race Blue Storm and I could finally release my Gamecube Collection.
I won't believe this until the cartridge is in my Switch and I am running, blasting and rolling in vast amounts of environments, rooms and corridors. Sorry.
Surely though it would make sense for the console release. Probably will be kept in reserve for barren periods, I don't know.
@GrailUK Metroid Dread isn't necessarily a good comparison as 2 of the 2D Metroid games are already on the Switch and while I don't think any more systems will be added to NSO because of the remasters/remakes/collections on the Switch, if GB/GBC/GBA got added to NSO in September that would be all 2D Metroid except Samus Returns (which is a remake anyway) on the Switch before Metroid Dread.
Was it the same idiot who was wrong about the Switch Pro or the Pokémon master collection?
@Nintendo4Sonic you have your GameCube collection imprisoned? Monster.
@Grumblevolcano True but ultimately 'in medias res' is a thing. If moden gamers don't know how to appreciate stuff like that, then that's on them.
Ah ***** here we go again
Right now. Right now is the "Right time". Please?
God I’m so tired of this.
It would make a great 2021 holiday release, but they will probably save it for a slow month in 2022.
@nessisonett Amen!
The only way this prediction is wrong is if it never comes to Switch.
Doesn't matter to me, I'm just glad Metroid Dread is coming soon. Prime series was never my favourite anyway.
It’s not coming home
This actually makes so much sense. Nintendo is doing the same thing with Mario and Zelda: releasing old games followed by new ones, but never by another old one. You see:
Mario Odyssey - NSMBU - Maker 2 - 3D World - ¿Mario Odyssey 2?
Zelda BotW - Link's Awakening - Hyrule Warriors AoC (kinda prequel of BotW) - Skyward Sword HD - Zelda BotW 2 - ¿WW+TP HD? (that's why they're not releasing them yet).
Metroid Samus Returns - Dread - Prime Trilogy HD - Prime 4.
Anyway, good times for Metroid fans!
Played and finished Prime
Played a little of Prime 2
Never touched 3
Bought the trilogy on wii u shop for 20 bucks
Need to sit down and play them lol.
Don't you know?
It's coming next week bundled with the Switch Pro!
Just started playing prime again for like the fifth time or whatever. Had given up hope for the trilogy on switch. And still have no hopes. So I think I will play it to the end again
Honestly, it’s a shame that Metroid Prime will forever be stuck on a system where you can’t use mouse and keyboard controls. Playing an FPS with a controller feels so limiting.
When it leaves the Wii U eShop, then you will know when the Switch version is releasing.
@BloodNinja They are not FPS.
@Flashlink99 Mario Allstars was 3 ports that didn't have any extra work or additions and was a limited edition project for the anniversary.
By your logic, why didn't we receive all 3 of the HD zeldas on 1 cart for Switch - TP, WW and SS?
@the_beaver Metroid Prime isn’t a first person shooter? What perspective is the game played in, and what type of weaponry does Samus use?
Change the frickin record!
If the reason is that they are sitting on it due to QA issues then they can sit on it as long as they want. Even if it ends up being Switch's final release.
Makes sense not to announce it too soon and then delay and delay. They have learned well from Cyberpunk fiasco.
@BloodNinja It’s a first-person action adventure 😉
I don't doubt that it is ready to go. I'm just annoyed that the internet is so set on ruining every little bit of surprise. Can't we just have one game reveal that is a legitimate surprise? This is why I enjoy it so much when leakers get punished for leaking.
Nintendo holding release of the Metroid Prime Trilogy remaster so they can use it as a forerunner to Metroid Prime 4 to get everybody hyped for the latest installment. Just like what we have right now with Skyward Sword and the upcoming release of BotW 2
Without IR pointer controls I suspect the Wii version will be the better game. Perhaps Nintendo has a trick up their sleeve with the IR camera?
@antdickens Who actually likes reading rumors?
They:
1. Don't tell you anything about coming games.
2. Give you false expectations about games / hardware that is coming (see the whole "Switch Pro" trash)
3. They likely generate a lot of clicks.
So 1+2=3 so most of these rumors are clickbait..
@BloodNinja It´s a first person adventure, everyone knows that. Metroid is NOT a shooter. It´s like comparing Zelda BotW with a musou just because it´s the same camera and you kill many enemies, or Super Metroid with Megaman/Metal Slug for the same reasons.
Metroid will NEVER be a shooter, no matter how hard you defend it. I hate FPS and Metroid Prime is one of my favourite games ever.
Metroid Prime Trilogy is real. I'm totally cereal.
@Casco Jeff Grubb wasn't the one who started rumors about the Switch Pro. All he's ever said is that he believes there will be a Switch Pro at some point, but it was never HIS leak, he's only ever responded to it.
As for the trilogy, I get that people are annoyed with leaks and rumors, and if something doesn't come true right away, we just assume everything is false, but it's complicated, and leaks aren't always based on current information anyway. Remember that Prime 4 had to be restarted, and then the pandemic slowed everything down on top of that - especially in 2020 but even to this day. Just these two factors alone are enough to explain a delay. If we assume that Nintendo wants to use the trilogy to promote Prime 4, why would they release it years in advance? The fact that the leak IS so persistent is a pretty good sign that it's based on real information. It's just that the situation around it is messy and weird.
@the_beaver I love how you are denying what Metroid Prime is, even though it’s gameplay is pretty glaringly obvious. It’s 100% a first person shooter, it uses the same perspective and you shoot things. It also has some slower paced exploration. The examples you gave are way too far off. But it’s still a first person shooter, not sure why that’s a bad thing! The game being your favorite doesn’t magically change what it is!!
@Casco yeah I don’t believe this rumor at all. We wait and see.
Can’t wait for Dread though?
I just really hope they don't release Prime Trilogy too close to Prime 4. I feel like this is the kind of game that needs to sit there for a year or two to give people time to pick it up and become 3D Metroid fans. If they release it too close, people may be turned off becuase they don't have time to play 3 games before the new one.
@bagajr I doubt Prime 4 would even come in 2022
@Ear_wiG It’s a first person shooter. You walk around in a first person perspective and shoot things. It’s slower paced, that’s about all it’s got different, gameplay-wise. I guess the morph ball sections change things up a little bit but the core gameplay is an FPS.
@Lordplops I meant selling 😁
@BloodNinja Man, stop. Your reasoning is as stupid as saying Zelda is the same genre as Ninja Gaiden because you kill enemies with a sword in a 3D environment... Metroid Prime has more platforming and exploring than shooting. Much more, actually.
Honest question: have you ever played them?
@the_beaver I’ve played all of them, but the first one is my favorite. Again, just because it’s your favorite game doesn’t mean it’s magically something different, and I’m not sure why you are using such wild examples for something so painfully obvious. Crysis features exploration, and so do the original Doom games. Adding platform doesn’t all of a sudden change it into something else. Turok also has platforming. It’s pretty well understood that those are FPS games. Why do you fight this so much?
@BloodNinja Isn’t it obvious? It’s a Metroidvania! 😛
@Alex78 what i wonder is if it is truly any insider source or if it’s just speculation. With Nintendo for the most part it seems the later - like you said it’s a move that commercially makes sense so it’s not a wild guess. But these dudes often just say what they think and pass it up like if they really had insider info
@BloodNinja While I do agree that a mouse and keyboard works good with first person shooter, not everyone who had their start with an fps start with a PC. It's kinda like fighting games nowadays, to retro gamers like myself we are familiar with using fight sticks and would prefer that style of play when playing them as we grew up in the age of arcade gaming but to later generation gamers like my nephew they are only familiar with using controller and analog sticks and that had work best in their favor with those games. No one way is superior, it's just which preference works best for you and cater to your enjoyment of the game.
@BloodNinja LOL, sure you win! Whatever you call it, it’s a great game!
I think you’ve become the antagonist of NintendoLife…
Final Boss::: ☠️THE BLOOD NINJA☠️ 😂
@I_commented Its just my opinion!!!!111
MPT Take my money.
After the failed speculation of the Switch "Pro" model, I think that's more than a sign that we should've stuck to waiting like we always did.
@Ghost_of_Hasashi Perhaps! I started on fight sticks but with the advent of all-button controllers, I find that I perform best with those, even though I didn’t grow up on it.
@Ear_wiG I just think it’s weird that all these people are jumping down my throat for saying Metroid Prime is an FPS. This is the first time I’ve ever encountered such a push back regarding that topic! It’s very strange!
@BloodNinja Because they are not FPS, I´m sorry XD. In Metroid Prime you don´t have to aim, you can lock the enemies like an adventure game. That´s impossible to see in an FPS. This is more about strategy than aiming. It´s more about exploring than fighting. It has backtracking with a pretty big world to explore freely. It´s not splitted in levels, you can always come back to find new things to do. It has nothing to do with Doom or Crysis, games totally focused on combat. It´s actually much more like Zelda than those games, only with shooting and a futuristic environment.
Have you ever compared a 2D Metroid game with Megaman, for example?? Will you ever dare to do so? I bet you wouldn´t. It´s the same thing here! Sorry, but I won´t give up XD
" Y la perra seguía y seguía".
@the_beaver I don’t have to keep talking with unreasonable and insulting people, especially over something so glaringly obvious.
I would be happy to have another crack at Metroid Prime 3 if they converted the game to traditional button controls and restored the other two. I absolutely hated the Wii motion controls for Prime 3 after coming from the Gamecube games. When I first played Prime on the Gamecube, the controls felt so natural to me where I didn't even have to think about things. I understand why they added motion controls and many people liked it, but I think it was a mistake to not offer button control as an option, considering the first two games were that way. And Nintendo had the classic controllers right there, so it could have been done. Prime 3 was such a disappointment for me after loving the previous two games so much in their original forms.
I’ve got each game on GameCube/Wii disc, as well as the Trilogy digitally on Wii U but I would consider getting it on Switch to be able to play at 1080p, with the option to swap between the motion control and regular controls on a whim.
@sdelfin Agreed there, I couldn’t ever get used to the controls and would always fumble with them. I gave up on that game early. The first two nailed the controls, honestly.
@BloodNinja Yeah I think maybe folks don’t want the Prime series associated with FPSs, for whatever reason... 🤷🏻♂️ It’s a great genre though, and was a perfect way to evolve the Metroid series. Oh well!
This makes sense though. Release the trilogy about a year earlier than prime 4 so people can play the trilogy and get prepared. It’s typical marketing now but if it’s true is another thing.
@sanderev it’s pretty clear that lots of people enjoy reading and discussing rumours over the 15 years we’ve ran the site and the comments they received. It’s a very small number of people that don’t and the majority of those simply ignore them if they aren’t interested. Likewise of any type of article.
It’s in no way clickbait when it’s clearly labelled what it is and the details, albeit how obscure, of the source is in the article.
@BloodNinja "It’s 100% a first person shooter, it uses the same perspective and you shoot things. It also has some slower paced exploration."
I think this is where you've got it backwards. It's 100% a slower paced exploration game that happens to have some first person shooting involved. And yeah it's all kind of semantic, but the Prime games are pretty far from (to use your examples) Crysis and DOOM.
@BloodNinja What...? I never insulted you LOL.
Anyway, I don´t know why I waste my time arguing about this series with the user that is insulting Samus Returns and its developers in every Metroid Dread article. Let´s just move on...
@BloodNinja @BloodNinja Well, sorry to disappoint you, but I'm with the other commenters: Metroid Prime is NOT a first person shooter, it's a first person action adventure, and OFFICIALLY labeled as such by Nintendo themselves, no less.
I can to some point understand the mistake, but you see, the type or classification of a game is not defined by its perspective or usage of in-game peripherals, it's solely defined by the leading purpose/mechanic of the game, and that (in the case of Metroid Prime), is VERY clearly exploration and puzzle solving.
So, the core gameplay is NOT first person shooting. That's just an added feature. And as we all know, the gun is also used to solve puzzles and open doors, so that already differentiates it from your average FPS.
And besides, it would also be pretty presumptuous to have one's personal view/opinion go against an ENTIRE gaming industry AND the makers of the games themselves, who have explained to exhaustion why it is not a first person shooter:
And considering the source material as well, it is pretty clear why they would not want the exploration part to be overruled by the "shooty" bits, because that actually would primarily make it a first person shooter.
So, no offense meant, but what's so "glaringly obvious" in this case, is that it's not a first person shooter, so sorry man, but you're definitely wrong.
Or in your own words: " just because it’s your favorite game doesn’t mean it’s magically something different".
@Indielink But to use Doom (Eternal) as an example, it has mostly shooting, but also leans into a LOT of platforming and exploration. So Prime and Doom are both FPSs (I think/feel) with emphasis on exploration, they just lean a little further in either direction.
@BloodNinja I remember the debate over whether Metroid Prime is an FPS from back when the game came out. This is nothing new. Mechanically, it's definitely an FPS, but the game is designed to feel different from the typical FPS games to the point where FPS could stand for first-person scanner. I prefer to think of the series as both a first-person shooter and an adventure game due to the stage design and traditional power-up system. It's not that different from how many modern games are both role-playing games and action games. You could think of it as a first-person shooter for those that don't necessarily like those games.
@antdickens "I labelled it as a clickbait so now it's not a clickbait."
I disagree that rumors add anything substanial to this (or any) website.
Also a lot of rumors get labelled as "news" or "talking points". This happened a lot to the "Switch Pro" rumors.
They also alter the preception of games and hardware that is released. Just look at the amount of people that say they won't buy the Swicth OLED because of the Switch Pro rumors. Those rumors hurt Nintendo, and this site being a Nintendo-fansite should take note at that.
Rumors are like gossip. And nobody likes gossip. I think if you poll every member of this website to ask if they like rumors, you'll see that most people don't.
And also in the 0.0001% of a rumor being true, they always spoil the fun of an annoucment. Which also affects sales of gaems and hardware.
If Nintendo think they can stick a full price tag on to them we will see them well before the next tax year. But I bet they are waiting to see how Skyward Sword sales go with its full price tag.
@Nookingtons I have an inside source that says this guy isn't a reliable source.
The fact that it's yet another PORT makes it believable
@sdelfin I agree, it’s an FPS with a different feel, that’s what I took away when I played it. I remember when I bought it thinking, “neat, an FPS, but Metroid.” Good stuff!
Maybe. Anyway, they won't be able to replicate the fantastic controls on the Wii trilogy (you have to max out sensitivity in the settings btw), but it would be cool to have a teaser of how the controls will work in Prime 4. Hopefully something like Splatoon 2.
@anoyonmus I know, I was responding to the quote where he said Nintendo may release Prime Trilogy close to the release of Prime 4, whenever that is.
Also can we have Samus returns to tide us over until dread please Nintendo lol
@Screen Grubb is usually pretty spot on. I’m pretty sure that he was one of the few not harking on the switch pro and just mentioned the oled screen. He’s also gotten several Nintendo directs spot on. Probably the only leaker that I ever listen to.
@ThanosReXXX I get why Nintendo marketed the game as a “first person adventure,” but it’s pretty hard to deny that the core gameplay revolves around shooting aliens from a first person perspective. It’s ok for the game to have incorporated different elements, but at the end of the day it’s an FPS and it’s so interesting to see the pushback against the idea. It’s like people who dislike FPS games think they are playing something different just because it’s Nintendo or Metroid.
@HeadPirate And it will come with a bonus download code for the Switch Pro exclusive release Half Life Trilogy. I just told you, that makes it true.
Prime is a first-person shooter. It's a game played from a first-person perspective where you shoot things. "It's not like what i think other FPSs are like" does not mean "it's not an FPS." That's like saying Metroid isn't a side-scrolling game because you can't jump on enemies.
@Indielink Literally every encounter is solved by shooting it. I’ve played all three games, the first two to completion. Gave up on 3’s controls. The first game has nearly 70 entries from the scanner dedicated to just the enemies, so it’s hard to believe that the combat is as sporadic as you mention.
If there was ever a good time to do this, it's this year while hype for Metroid is at its highest.
@Ear_wiG I found it very enjoyable, it’s a great series. But it’s such a strange debate to have, it’s not like the gameplay is nebulous. You see a threat, you shoot it. You also happen to explore a maze. I think it’s cool that the game incorporates different elements from different games, but it’s strange to have such a weird aversion to a genre that if elements from that genre appear in another game then that game isn’t from that genre for whatever reason.
@BloodNinja @Strumpan @the_beaver all primes are FPS action adventure games. They are literally both together and are not the traditional Metroidvania games because they are 3d. Claiming it is one or another does not mean anyone is wrong as it is both genres. That is what makes it so unique especially when they released.
Doesn't Grubb have a very spotty record?
@Ear_wiG DOOM Eternal leans into platforming in the same way that the Prime games lean into shooting. Like Prime definitely has FPS gameplay, but it's pretty clearly not the main draw.
Metroid Prime feels like an FPS in the loosest sense of the term. Like if we were to make a scale of like "how much of an FPS are you," it'd hang out fairly close to the bottom, somewhere near Mirror's Edge.
@datamonkey it could happen but we wait and see
@sanderev I respectfully disagree with you, like I said it’s always something we’ve done and will continue to do so. We’re here to be part of the conversation about all aspects of Nintendo including rumours and speculation. When we see rumours that our own sources confirm/contradict we’ll post articles that state that too. Sources are always included so people can make their own judgment on each sources integrity.
Yep, and it’ll be the launch game for the Switch Pro too!
Did this come from Bloomberg along with another "for sure, done deal" Switch Pro story?
Hey Nintendo....as a Metroid fan, I feel like I'm giving up on waiting and moving on. I finally secured a PS5 and I'm excited to get their new sci-fi game Returnal. I loooove the sci-fi gameplay of the Metroid Prime series but if you keep us hanging, we have no choice but to look elsewhere.
It wouldn't surprise me if it did exist and came out in 2022 between Dread this year and Prime 4 in 2023.
But, anyone can make a prediction like "it'll come out when Nintendo are ready". It could come out in 2030 and does this rumour-monger expect credit for that? Jog on.
@antdickens Thanks for the reply and excellent site. Seeing all these rumors alongside the news and reviews is like seeing the most delicious oreo reeses jumbo cookie on the same shelf as the iceberg wedge salad. You can't help but want to eat that cookie. You know how it is.
So much petty squabbling going on in every comment section these days. I haven't seen NL acting so cantankerous since the Switch launched and Sligeach Eire was in every article mounting a one-man campaign to convince everyone it was a massive failure because it replaced his beloved Wii U.
NLife, y'all need to chill. Go play some video games or something.
@meltendo Yes! Returnal is the closest thing to a third-person Metroid game that we have right now. The feelings of isolation on an alien planet, the gadgets and power-ups, the creatures—and those blue doors! Such an amazing game! Hope you enjoy it 🙌🏼
Jeff Grubb is notorious for educated guesses. He guessed a release date for our game that is a year wrong
I used to love a good rumour, but there's so many and barely correct it's killed the mood.
Brought by the same dude that said a Switch Pro was on the way.
No more talk—time to boot up Prime Trilogy in Wii!
@sanderev I find it hard to believe rumors of a Switch Pro played any significant part in someone not buying a Switch OLED. If anything, they weren't gonna buy it anyway.
I also don't think a rumor potentially ruining a surprise is gonna change anyone's feelings on a product. Especially if it's a product they actually want and are looking forward to. If a rumor came out today that Breath of the Wild 2 was going to be surprised released on Tuesday and it actually happened, you're telling me people aren't going to buy the game because a rumor ruined the surprise?
@Ear_wiG I actually already had it open when I popped into this discussion!
If they had this ready, now it’s the perfect timing so people can catch up to the story if they haven’t played all or some of the previous games before dredd.
trying to find an anchor for daily posts where medusa's snakes don't follow me trying to suck my soul. apparently nintendolife is not that sanctuary.
This old song and dance? Until it materializes I refuse to believe it.
I can't imagine a scenario where Nintendo wouldn't want to release the Trilogy before Prime 4. It's a great way to not only give newer fans a way to experience the Trilogy if they missed out on it but also a good way to build up more hype leading up to the release of Prime 4. Plus it's also a good way to fill up a slow month with an easy release.
If true maybe they are waiting to see how metroid dread dose in sales before releasing it
But hope it dose come but thay said before it was ready but nothing
but I all so remember one of the people behind the original trilogy said it was not being made for the switch!
But I would All so like to see metroid other m as well
I never got to finish it 😔
@BloodNinja I agree that the Prime games are FPS games. The original Metroid game and other 2D games are shooting games too. I like Prime, and I know the games have incorporated elements from the 2D games, but I still agree with @BloodNinja; FPS!
Maybe will be a surprise release when more Prime 4 details are revealed? Need to give me time to play the trilogy properly before prime 4 so hoping it's sooner than later. I've only played Prime 3 and would love this chance to play them all in HD.
I know everyone is burned by rumours of late, especially after all the Pro guff, but JB is quite reliable. At this point MPT on Switch is easy money, even if they do go the lazy route and uprez it a bit and add bare minimum extras.
@Ravenmaster That wouldn't surprise me and does make sense.
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.”
Seeing the same rumours every month for years reminds me of this quote. Can we at least get some new rumours instead of the same old ones over and over.
I agree that it will be released before prime 4 it jus makes sense! Xx now about that star fox Grand Prix game. . . Xxx
With Dread on the way which also had a ton of skeptical speculation behind it and Prime 4 still in the pipeline. Why would Nintendo bring up the trilogy now when another section of the series is being pushed. It would be like advertising a new top down Zelda in the middle of advertising Skyward Sword HD while also marketing for breath of the wild 2.
They should release MPT after and not before MP4.
Jeff Grub never got anything right and a few times when he did it was the easiest guess anyone could make.
@Iggy-Koopa
I’m sure like all “insiders” he’s quite reliable at liking the sound of his own voice.
They'd have released it in 2020 (Nintendo's worst year to date) if it was real. They didn't release it in 2020, thus we can conclude it isn't real.
@the_beaver Hey man, the prime games are some of my all time favorite games too. But if you are going to call Metroid Prime a "first person adventure" because that's what Nintendo called it, then you need to call BotW an "Open Air" game, not open world, because that's what Nintendo calls it.
Even though there are already pre-established genres that both of those games fall into.
Have Nintendo themselves ever even dropped a hint that they’ve been working on this?
I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Dread follows the “original” timeline while Prime follows a separate timeline. For them to release Prime Trilogy around the time of Dread would be confusing, timeline-wise. Unless of course there’s something we don’t know with how the two series connect somehow…
But yeah, not counting on this one releasing anytime soon. Closer to Prime 4 I’ll start getting out my good luck charms….
I feel so confused. I have an internal moan about re-releases but I’d be soooo happy to play them again again
@Moistnado Yeah! And there’s nothing wrong with that! I really got thrown off by the negative reaction! Been calling it an FPS since launch but today felt like walking face-first into a tornado! heh!!!
I could have sworn not long ago a dev of one of the prime games said a port to switch is not happening because “it wasn’t worth the effort”
While not all rumors are true let’s remember that the 3d Mario collection, the new paper Mario and the Pikmin 3 port rumors from last year all turned true and this year the new warioware and 2D Metroid.
Doesn’t mean prime collection will 100% happen but don’t be too quick to dismiss it folks
Assuming it even is real, I have questions about the control scheme. As we all know, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption had a motion control scheme due to it being on the Wii.
Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes were both rereleased on the Wii with similar motion controls, and were bundled with Metroid Prime 3: Corruption in the Metroid Prime Trilogy, again for the Wii.
So if it comes to the Switch, will it follow a similar control scheme to The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, with both motion controls and a traditional button scheme?
And for that matter, what about Metroid Prime 4, whenever that releases? Will it follow the same gameplay route as well?
My life would be complete!
I bought it on Wii U for $20. I still need to play it. I played a bit of 1 and 3 years ago but never finished them. I’d rather have them on switch to play in handheld mode with button controls, because handheld is my preferred way to play. I would be surprised to see them release anytime soon though. Maybe next year or even after Metroid Prime 4.
Believe it when I see it. This has been rumored for a long time. A loooooong time....Almost as long as the switch pro rumors......
Skyward Sword was built on the 11.0 SDK. Which means it was built and probably finished months and months and months ago and they've probably just been sitting on it.
So yeah, I can see this happening.
I still believe there’ll be something Metroid announced in an August direct.
I'm the way I see, if it's true, would make sense be released before Dread. Keep switching between a 2D and a 3D Metroid would make everyone happy (MP trilogy - Dread - MP4). Unless MP4 is really far far away (after 2024, I believe in ending 2022 or Middle 2023).
This is plausible and I imagine this trilogy will come to the Switch, as will Twilight Princess and Wind Waker. These games weren't given a chance to sell, because they were on the Game Cube which not many people had. (Metroid Prime 3 probably did sell decently since it was on the Wii, though.)
Anyway, I hope these games come to the Switch because they are pillars of gaming history!
Miyamoto said Pikmin 4 was almost done, like 5 years ago. This is just what Nintendo does. Then again, even Miyamotos leaks aren't reliable....
It can take only a few months to remaster a game, even if the Metroid Prime Trilogy for Switch doesn't exist yet it could be easily be ready for 2022. I guess Nintendo is waiting for Metroid Prime 4 , though, which maybe won't be available until 2023 or something like that. For this year they already have a Metroid game, so the Trilogy Will probably come out next year.
I would really like this to be true I only ever played through the first metroid prime, I then went to uni and video games took a back seat to beer for quite some time!
As much as I like it to happen for real, this is all but a rumor which has been done over.
*pinches salt
@SalvorHardin Probably, but at least he's not a 'broken clock' type of insider.
Metroid Prime Trilogy HD is literally the only thing I am excited about with regards to Metroid Prime 4.
Trilogy is Retro in their Prime. Pun intended.
MP4? I'm not even sure Retro have it in them anymore. How many years without a game now? How many years of just endless silence?
MP4 is Nintendo throwing Retro under a bus.
MPT is Nintendo hoping to at least make some of their money back.
@Indielink Yep been playing Prime all weekend! Took a bit to get used to the graphics, but I’ve been livin’ my best prime life all afternoon! 😵💫
@UsurperKing For me, Metroid Prime is just an adventure game, like the Zeldas or the last God of War, only with a different perspective, or like the 2D metroidvanias, only with a different perspective.
A FPS, though?? I don't see it. It has nothing to do with that genre, only the perspective is the same.
The one thing that Jeff is saying that is most certainly true is that QA testing is still an issue in various places across the world, including Japan.
Here we go again..; If you want to give that guy his/her 5 minutes of fame, do it, but it's your problem if you believe her/his again and it turns out again that everything is false.
It is always better to wait for the official announcement, because it will be real and it is official, not a "maybe".
Jeff Grubb aside, I can see Nintendo releasing this trilogy remake if Dread sells goos.
If Nintendo brings the Metroid Prime Trilogy to Switch, I'll be excited even if it won't perfectly replicate how well the games played on the Wii and Wii U. I'm not putting any weight to rumors though for this collection. I think this has been going on since December of 2017. I also am not sure when the "right time" is as I'm expecting Metroid Prime 4 to be a late 2022 release. Are they going to drop MPT that close to Metroid Prime 4? I'm not so sure about that.
I also don't understand the logic that Nintendo is holding the release to see how well Metroid Dread performs. They're different games. Regardless of how well another game does, if they've already finished the product, they'll sell it to try and get back what they can.
@I-U If I were you, I would forget about Metroid Prime 4 coming out next year. No way. 2022 is for Zelda and 2023 for Metroid.
So MP Trilogy could perfectly well be released next year, to fill the gap.
By the way, I think the idea of releasing first Metroid Dread is simply for a matter of perception. If a remaster is released after a remake (Samus Returns), people would think Nintendo is only re-releasing old games, instead of new ones. And that Metroid is dead, and so on. Having waited until Dread to release them is a way to say "Hey, look at this, Metroid is alive! We are making two new games of your beloved series!". As costumers, we prefer much more this, honestly. Metroid feels more alive than ever now, now we know they can release anything Metroid related. And this MP Trilogy is sure one of them.
@ChromaticDracula First I heard that Metroid games exist on different timelines. But then again, I don't see why that would make a difference to the player, unless someone were a stickler for game storylines or if understanding whatever the Metroid lore is or isn't is integral to playing the games
@the_beaver Breath of the Wild, Metroid: Samus Returns and Super Mario Odyssey all released in 2017. There's no reason why Breath of the Wild 2 and Metroid Prime 4 cannot both release in 2022. I'm not suggesting the two games release on top of each other next year. Have Breath of the Wild 2 earlier in the year and Metroid Prime 4 late, and if MPT exists, drop that in the summer in between.
@Shambo
Kids today man. You know how often I reply to a switch pro rumour with "half life 3 confirmed" ... and NO ONE gets it
@Crockin im pretty sure prime trilogy is alrdy done in development for switch which most likely theur saving any announcements for it till we get more concrete info on prime 4/release date as well for it just hoping they add in all the stuff cut out from prime 1 like kraid and mother brain.
*sigh
And a few months ago, you posted an article about how somebody who once worked for Retro said it most likely wouldn’t happen. File this under the same Stupid category as Switch Pro.
The Metroid Prime Trilogy has always been in Nintendo's Back Pocket ever since Prime 4 was announced. I have a feeling that whenever there's going to be a Fall 2021 Nintendo Direct, that would be the perfect time to announce it. As a way to say "Hey, Dread is only a few days away from release! Here's something to stuff a Metroid's fan stocking while they wait for Prime 4!"
Nintendo doesn't have that much planned for the Holidays of 2021, if you exclude the Gen 4 Pokemon Remakes.
....Didn't one of the original developers say that this was impossible not too long ago? >_>
@Joeynator3000 You are correct.
This is at least the third time in the last few years this exact rumour has come up. I'm pretty sure this site even reported it.
@I-U That's true, but 2017 was a year to remember forever XD. I don't think we'll see another year like that again.
Zelda, Splatoon, Mario, Fire Emblem, Metroid, Xenoblade... Wow.
@BanjoPickles If it was possible to bring Skyward Sword to Switch, anything is.
@NatiaAdamo "Nintendo doesn't have that much planned for the Holidays of 2021, if you exclude the Gen 4 Pokemon Remakes."
Metroid Dread is their biggest thing this year.
Appart from that, they still have Mario 3D World and Monster Hunter Rise they'll still use, and also Wario Ware, Mario Party, the Pokemons, Shin Megami Tensei V (yes, they're promoting that game a lot!) and Advance Wars.
Right, and how many "industry insiders" promised us we would be basking in the glow of a Switch Pro right now? Seriously, how many times are you guys going to fall for this "insider" ruse?
Comments sections about Nintendo rumor mill stuff sure are a lot more cynical after the OLED.
Never expecting anything is a great way to not get burned, but rumors don’t have to be written off altogether. Mario 3D all stars was rumored for a while and turned out to be a thing.
First party N64/GCN/Wii classics have almost all gotten remakes on DS, 3DS, Wii U or Switch. I’d be shocked if we didn’t see the Prime Trilogy drop on Switch or its successor in the next few years.
Some time in the build up to MP4 makes sense. We all know it will happen one day, it’s just a question of when.
I 100% believe him. I think Nintendo saw what happened with bayonetta 1 and 2 releasing several years before bayonetta 3 and don’t want a repeat of that. I firmly believe they’re waiting to release Metroid Prime Trilogy on switch a year or so before the release of Metroid Prime 4.
i expect Nintendo is problaby is gonna release Metroid Prime Trilogy when Metroid Prime 4 is 6 months/1 year to release on Switch.
Comes with a free Switch Pro.
After the glut of ultimately embarrassing Pro rumours, gaming journalists should wince every time they type "rumour", and take a long hard look at whether they want to keep typing.
I won’t hold my breath.
holds breath
@MSpudley
unfortunately, rumors "sell" despite the fact that on many occasions they have shown how false they are, but as long as there are "masochistic" people (people who have already suffered from false rumors and still have faith that the next rumor will be real ), oh well, what can we do ...?
And in these cases, something that I disliked, for example, was with the Nintendo switch OLED; people, knowing that they were rumors and after the announcement and the confirmation that the rumor was false, they still blame and insult Nintendo that the rumor was not real, seriously people, what kind of mentality is that? !!
The remaster both exists and does not exist. You see, deep inside Nintendo HQ there is a box. The box has the Prime logo on it. But no one is allowed to open the box, or even to peer inside.
The same is true for the Mother and F-zero collections.
Both are finished, Nintendo simply couldn't decide what color the word "Collection" on the box should have.
They have been carefully considering it for years now. You can only make one first impression afterall!
@Danondorf I was going to say that the negativity here is amazing. It’s almost like slowdive by himself was able to keep everyone optimistic about what’s about to happen because his favourite podcast told him and they got their information from their friends directly at Nintendo.
@HeadPirate I have two reserved already, so there's that. Until it releases next week though, I can be playing it on our Wii U, and Wii.
Do I think this will happen though? Absolutely. (Which means it probably never will.) Why wouldn't it?
Not sure about the visual upgrades and what not, but I do think the Metroid Prime Trilogy makes sense on the Switch, as it has sold extremely well and this would be almost like more, "free cash" to Nintendo on those that double-dip on the games.
But, I am one that does absolutely believe a Switch Pro is still happening, just not until BotW2, Splatoon 3, and/or something like Bayonetta 3 are done and ready for launch with the system next year.
I mean....you're probably not wrong @Hobbitgamer
Whether or not this is real, HD would be a tough trade-off for pointer aiming. I'm not a fan of gyro/motion controls, but pointer aiming for shooters?? That was bliss.
@Casco
the "switch pro" rumours felt like one of those cases that while the majority didn't believe they were true, they hoped they were true.
kind of like any time there's a "mother 3 localization" rumour.
I gotta admit, this site loves milking the Metroid Prime Trilogy HD rumor for all it's worth.
Even the Switch Pro rumors mostly come from reputable finance/tech-related sources, and while the Switch OLED model is no Switch Pro, it at least shares several characteristics that the Pro was rumored to have (7-inch OLED screen, LAN port, wider kickstand, more storage).
With Metroid Prime Trilogy HD, we have loose rumors/speculation from guys like Jeff Grub and some dubious retailer listings that usually end up being errors.
Here we go again.
I’m not getting my hopes up, especially since the Steam Deck is launching in December and can, through emulation, play the Prime Trilogy and other consoles that Nintendo refuses to release on the NSO(and Sony for that matter)
Hope I’m proven wrong, but I doubt it.
A marketing beat for Metroid 4!? I hope not. Give us enough time to beat all 3 or space it out. geez.
I have leak fatigue syndrome.
@UmbreonsPapa I agree with you on the timeline intricacies… I’d consider myself above average on the Metroid fandom but I suppose the key difference is that Samus’ suit underwent that whole Fusion thing in Metroid Fusion. Of course now with Dread being the next entry in the series, her suit looks different than “classic” Samus with the red, orange, and gold.
In other words, it makes sense why her suit retains the blueish colors from Fusion, with Dread being the next entry, whereas in the Prime series, her suit does not look like that at all.
Wow I sound like a nerd breaking this down.
I’m just going to stop there lol
@antdickens Articles like these don't add anything. They only hurt Nintendo. That's my point.
1. In the case their true, they spoil an annoucment on which someone at Nintendo has worked a long time.
2. In the case their partly true (Switch OLED) they impact sales of the actual released product. Because it's not what the gossip/rumor "promised" it would be.
3. In the case their false, well they should be ignored.
Adding a source, and checking a source doesn't add anything. Unless that source is Nintendo themselves.
But I think you really should run a poll to see whether people like articles like these. I'll accept the outcome of a poll like that.
That would be the best community-driven solution to this problem.
@UmbreonsPapa Except many people say they won't buy the OLED model because it's not a Pro model. If a Pro model was never rumored, the OLED model would be a perfect upgrade for the base Switch. And since the Pro model doesn't exist, it is.
Also same thing happened to games that were leaked months before actual announcments. Maybe not a big game like Breath of the Wild 2. But I've seen many smaller games being announced with less hype and selling less because of it.
Just leaked, metroid prime trilogy on gamepass
Is there some kind of office bet about how many articles (using the same image no less lol) you guys will post about this?
Goes to show how easy and cheap these remakes are.
This is another one of those persistent rumors. You guys just posted a string of articles and videos bemoaning "leaks" and rumors being awful and such and yet you still feed into the rumor mill by posting this nonsense.
Yaaawn
It'll come out when it comes out, no need to speculate why Nintendo's holding back as if he really know
There was only ever 1 chance that this trilogy wasn't happening, that was if Prime 4 was being made for a exclusively for a Super Switch / Switch 2.
I guess we'll be putting this 1 on the Christmas list.
Makes perfect sense to me. Release Dread to re-introduce or introduce the series’ roots.
There will be people who have never played the Prime games so getting this one out nearer the release of the fourth game in the series is a good move.
As for Pro vs Oled, I reckon the Pro is still a thing - again, with chip shortages and the like, makes sense that they release a ‘stop gap’ model. Nintendo have cited Apple’s yearly refresh as a good business model, they are slowly becoming more like Apple and I can see them upping the ante with revised hardware over the coming years
I can wait. I will have my metroid fix this year
Does anyone else expect MP4 to be a BotW or TP situation? Given that Ninty’s still recruiting staff for it, I’d say it’s likely.
@Mr-Fuggles777 Probably Nintendo wants the Zelda momentum going strong, as it's the second most popular franchise so they clearly want as much money as possible (quick mention, I'm not fully supportive of their pricing schemes, only bought SS HD because I missed the opportunity to play it in 2011 and by then I just grew out of the Wii fever, and I'm glad I didn't back then).
Meanwhile Metroid has always been an underdog of Nintendo's IPs and never had the commercial appeal of Mario or Zelda. That's why I think if they were to re-release the Prime trilogy on Switch, they wouldn't pull the same stunt like they afford with Zelda (separate releases), as it would probably hurt the commercial performance of the games. There are way more people who would buy anything Zelda compared to Metroid stuff.
I see Nintendo doing a minimum effort of changing the UI, AI upscaling and some small adjustments to Corruption's motion controls, like they did with Mario Galaxy.
I've been hearing this for years.
Another remake. Yayyyyy
Metroid is my favorite Nintendo franchise, but I'm going to be highly upset if they did the bare minimum in porting this over and been sitting on this game! This whole time they could have been adding more to update the assets of these games to more modern graphics styles...
No mention of full HD or 1080p Hope its not like Wii U emulation ports
@Jedge396 Man, you're getting Metroid Dread and Prime 4 as well. As a Metroid fan, this is glorious.
Besides, we are talking about the remasters of some of the best games ever made. It's not just "another" one.
This is definitely happening. My uncle works at Nintendo and he told me so.
@sanderev it's OK, we don't have to agree.
If we only ran articles that contained official information from Nintendo like you suggest, then this would basically be a carbon copy of the official Nintendo website. That's not who we are, not why we setup and run this website.
There is no need for a poll on the matter either, the evidence is here to see on every rumour article we've ever done over the years.
So basically the game is ready and coming out when the time is right, which has basically been the same rumour time and time again, along with those highly dubious retailer listings.
So in effect nothing to see here, as with all the other previous articles
But with 239 comments and counting, you can bet your life Nintendo Life will keep these highly dubious articles coming.
@HeadPirate I think, if I remember correctly, last year's presentation of Devolver was spot on, laughing at how consumers are more about hype than the actual games they get, and how the market knows and uses that. But when a game gets over hyped, it can never meet expectations. It is still more likely Nintendo is sitting on Prime Trilogy for Switch than Valve sitting on HL3, that would be like a mother bird sitting on her golden egg until the child is born and suffocated. But rumours... I mean, if I say something now, someone reads it and starts spreading it, and it catches on, we soon get an avalanche of hot air. A bubble like the (housing, or any other, profit or non-profit) market, as long as someone breaths life into it, and people buy it, it is "true", no matter how obviously untrue it is, or how hard you shove it in their face that it was made up all along, or just wishful thinking.
Cortez told me he used the timecrystals to make it so that Haze 2 never happened (proof: it never happened), so they can spend their time making Timesplitters 4 instead. I confirm this. Confirmed AND proven.
There is no Trilogy for Switch. They'll release 3 "remastered" games separately and charge $60 each for them. Nintendo only does collections for the oldest games possible. Any newer game (Post NGC) is going to get the remastered treatment.
In French we say "la boucle", and I think it's time to accept MPT is just a running-gag at this point.
@Casco Part of me is kind of glad a bunch of kids learned a lesson about how rumors work.
@Crockin it would make sense for them to try and establish Metroid as a long term IP like Mario or Zelda where you get at least a game a year. If we're lucky Trilogy next year and then Prime 4 in 2023(this may do a BOTW and sit across the next console release.
The only reason I'd find this rumor a bit unlikely is that we heard recently from a Retro employee that quite a lot of work would have to go in to port.
But maybe he only knew that because they'd already had to do it. Similar to how the news that an Ori 2 port for Switch would be difficult arrived just a few weeks before the announcement of that port.
One Word: COPIUM
@Nookingtons So glad to see some skepticism in the comments for once! Maybe people really did learn from all the nonsense Switch Pro rumors that so many people were convinced were just "facts".
I'd love to see these games on Switch, but they've been rumored since like 2018, I ain't believing it until we get an official announcement.
Protip: If the headline begins with "Rumour", then take the report as nothing more than fiction until proven otherwise.
@NintendoByNature lmao why?
I literally just beat Metroid Prime 3 this morning before seeing this. I knew Nintendo wouldn't announce a Switch version of the Trilogy before Dread's release and risk cannibalizing its sales, but it's like every time I play something that isn't already on Switch, it gets announced or leaked very soon after; it happened a week after I finished watching Dragon Ball Z, and Kakarot was announced for Switch, and a couple weeks after playing Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, word gets out about a Castlevania collection with the GBA games. I'm on a roll!
Jokes aside, I was planning on replaying the entire trilogy once Metroid Prime 4 has a release date, So if Nintendo does announce a Metroid Prime Trilogy HD, I'll gladly pick it up... It would be nice if I could play a Metroid Prime Trilogy that doesn't lock a bunch of content behind Friend Vouchers...
Obviously would love this
@Javarooster Grubb is gold. Nuff said!
Nah I'm just messing around. I honestly don't care what any of the leakers say. If it happens great, if it doesn't oh well.
Uhggg....OK so I am not as rumor adverse as some but I think the rumor mill took a serious hit when the Switch OLED was announced and all the talk about Pro slinked back under the rock that it came from. This MP Trilogy rumor is just worn out. How many people have been pushing this for more than a few years? Why push it now? Dread is announced and is coming soon. No way in Hades (love that game) N would release MP Trilogy before a finished and announced Dread game hits. I never played some of the Wii's best games because of motion controls....so Zelda_SS HD has been a treat, and honestly they improved the motion controls with the joycons, so I am actually playing it mostly with motion controls, but I like having the option to play it with normal controls. Same thing with Mario Galaxy port.....OK with motion but thankful to have button option. So I missed MP3 and would love to get that with improved joycon motion option but also button option. Taking out the excellent Samus Returns on 3DS, the series has been dormant for a long time. Bringing out the long thought to be dead, Dread is a great way to bring the series back into into the light and bring it back in its original 2D form. If MPT done, then N is surely waiting to release it as a lead up to MP4. Time will tell but all we know for now is we get Dread and MP4 is in development.....I'm busy trying to replay all the 2D Mets before Dread gets here this fall so no need for MPT until I get my 2D fix on.
@BloodNinja I don't think it's because people dislike first person shooters, or because it's Nintendo, it's just that this is not a shooter by nature. I mean: the Legend of Zelda features a LOT of fighting AND shooting, but does that then mean that it's either a 3D beat em up or a third person shooter?
I know, bit of a pedantic comparison, but I hope you understand what I'm getting at. Basically, the whole idea of the team at Retro was to have the actual feel of the 2D Metroid games, and then combine that with a first person view. That does not make it an fps, though.
And besides, there's plenty of other first person and third person games where you shoot at things and also solve puzzles, and these aren't called shooters either. Take Resident Evil for example: why is that not a third person shooter, then? Because it's a survival horror game, obviously, because that is it's core mechanic and genre.
Well, believe it or not, the same goes for Metroid. The core mechanic really isn't shooting aliens. In the 2D games, you're obviously also shooting at aliens, but it's still an exploratory platformer at heart, and most of these mechanics have been ported over to the 3D games.
So, if the 2D games aren't platform shooters, then the 3D games also aren't first person shooters. You COULD play them as such, and they DO have these kinds of mechanics in place, but pound for pound and percentage-wise, the majority of the game consists of puzzle solving, scanning, platforming and so on.
Anyway, perhaps we should leave it at that. You have your ideas, I have mine, we're apparently not going to convince each other, facts or no facts, so there's little point to it, I suppose. Glad we could keep things civil, though. That means that my previous comment came across as it should: constructively critical.
@Sourcecode Sorry about that, couldn't help myself.
Wouldn't mind finally seeing that one surfacing either, though. I'm a fan of all the previous games, so I'd welcome a true sequel.
@ThanosReXXX Metroid Prime isn’t as stark as Resident Evil, though, which clearly sets out to be something completely different, at least in its earlier iterations. Prime somewhat blurs the lines a tiny bit, but not so much that it feels like it should be it’s own genre. It’s simply a slower paced FPS; you have the perspective, you shoot anything that gets in your way, and there’s A LOT of shooting. As much as COD? Certainly not, but the focus is on the combat, with rooms of enemies sometimes flooding the screen, and larger-than-life boss encounters. Yeah, it lets you fart around with a scanner and some very light exploration, but it’s really toned down compared to a side scrolling Metroid.
@BloodNinja Depending on how much you scan.
You can actually complete the games without scanning one single item. Well, safe for the elevators, that is.
But, erm... my previous comment was actually meant as a closing argument, so if you don't mind, I'll see myself out now.
maybe nintendo is considering making metroid prime trilogy an unlockable option in metroid dread.
Eh, I prefer to wait for Nintendo to announce things themselves.
@the_beaver Its an fps. You can call it a hybrid if you like, but part of that equation is fps. I dunno why people are so huffy about calling it what it is?
@Tempestryke RE4 or 2 Remake have a lot of shooting as well, and nobody have ever called them Third Person Shooters (so that they could be compared to Gears of War and such), right?? It's the same thing here. It has elements from a shooter, sure, same with REs, but it's not a shooter.
That's my point.
@Stude Does that mean it's Schrodinger's Game?
Nintendo has the Trilogy ready and is just trying to test the grounds based on feedback if they could release each Prime game separately-which would be disgusting. So let’s unite and not let them milk us since we who want it the most have in most cases bought the game multiple times already and made N enough money. Now we see a silly strategy like they wanna sell only remastered Prime 1 ….from random rumors….( even though it’s just a facelift)-and if people don’t complain we will pay 3times for 3old games. If Nintendo sees enough uproar against this, they will just release the trilogy as they are supposed to! Stop abusing your fans, we make you money, but there are limits to what companies can do to their fans! If companies will treat us like crap, people will just get fed up and play emulators instead.
