Re: Video Game Voice Actors Contemplate Strike Action Over Pay and Conditions

Haiassai

@Yorumi I'd argue that depends on the game itself. Some games don't need voice acting, as GraveLordXD has argued. 2D Zeldas definitely don't need them, nor do many Mario games. But using Nintendo games as an anchoring point, it's accurate to say that Star Fox having voices lifts up the game—be it the SNES version that had a non-English language or the following which had more comprehensive language. Xenoblade Chronicles ESPECIALLY needed voice acting. While the game could do with on screen text, it was such a cinematic experience that you couldn't have the game conceivably without it.

If we treat games like an art rather than a commodity, I think we'd have a different appreciation for it. Music isn't needed in games, but it lifts the Zelda series to a new level. Sound effects aren't needed either, but they give a more cathartic experience in every game. The same goes with voice acting—and the better the quality, the better the art.

@617Sqn you really have no concept of the working artist. As a teacher surrounded by friends/musicians who audition day to day to land a gig, I am grateful for landing my job. While i love teaching kids, I chose it over the musicians life due to stability. Voice actors are no different. And for the average voice actor, they don't get paid us much as me. We always look at high waged actor and think s/he is the pay standard. That really isn't the case

Re: Video Game Voice Actors Contemplate Strike Action Over Pay and Conditions

@XCWarrior please leave your outlandish statements at home.

In those regards, we should care not about the artist who visually brings the game to fruition. Or the composer who brings the music. Mario and Zelda are cherished franchises, but it's silly to think they're the only ones — or constitute for most of them. If your name is derived from Xenoblade Chronicles, then I ask you to imagine the game with its loads of cut scenes to lack voice acting.

And personally, I think Zelda could use some voice acting in the upcoming games. Maybe not by Link, but adding the right kind of voices makes the rest of the world feel alive.

The ignorance on this thread is ludicrous. Voice actors go through a lot and it's completely understandable for them to request this. We often see a blockbuster hit and think the voice actors get respective pay — they don't. Because their favor is not on the screen, the voice actors get so much less pay than movie actors.

And sure, they may not be "hard-working blue collars," but they still deserve these rights. We cherish Xenoblade Chronicles for many reasons, but the voice actor for Shulk does a stupendous job in bringing the story to life ( need I site the battle scene at Colony 9). The part of their body that brings the magic to the audience — the part that brings the bread to the table — is in question and it's only understandable that the vocal cords be treated properly.

Re: Mario Memories: Super Mario RPG Opens Up The World (and a Boss's Big Mouth)

I still await for Square Enix and Nintendo to get their crap together and make a sequel. This is the game that really... got me into gaming. I enjoyed Sonic and Mario just as much as the next person, but the music, challenge, and characterisation behind this game was astonishing for my 8-year old self. I still love it! And even though I have enjoyed the Paper Mario series, they lack the charm this game holds.

Please Square Enix and Nintendo... please...

@Bass_X0
You've gotta be kidding me. I can't think of what to say because that argument sounds so frivolous. You don't see car companies changing their names because they're from a foreign country. Americans purchase Toyotas, Nissans, Hyundais, Mazdas, Subarus... the only people that wouldn't purchase Nintendo because of their name are nationalists.

We live in a globalised market where we can't avoid people of different names. Nintendo is a 175 year old company with weight to their name. Yes, it has tarnished lately, but if you were to call it something else, that weight of that name would disappear altogether.

Fix the actual problem: the mindset. Don't change a strength of theirs: their name.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo NX Won't Be As Powerful As PlayStation 4

@DanteSolablood The question regarding Minecraft is fair if we're comparing software, but we're comparing hardware. Minecraft's graphics are simple, but not all creators want to align with that approach—and justifiably. There are some wonderful games that need stunning visuals.

@MasterGraveHeart Third Parties are vital to a successful console. It's one of the biggest reasons why the Wii U has done terribly and why the early consoles did great. As for "who is this guy," his creds are stated in the beginning. While not flawless, he's been pretty reliable.

@BakaKnight Maybe Nintendo should pay people to spread false yet positive rumours

Re: Nintendo Reportedly Pitched NX To Third Parties During E3 2015

I love the gamepad, personally, and do not find it a gimmick at all. That said, I feel like the next console should bring in the gamepad, but as a peripheral. The early Nintendo consoles had a bunch of peripherals that not all games used, and that was fine. However, when a system is dependent on it, it makes it hard for 3rd parties to port or use it properly.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Suggests Low Key and Accessible amiibo Support in Star Fox Zero

Haiassai

I'm fine they're not being integrated in StarFox, but I need more of a reason for these amiibo other than skins. I'm disappointed in the lack of creativity for these figures. They placed themselves in a very hard place, where they want to to be inclusive with their games and not create a game solely for amiibo. So... then... what are amiibo for? I have yet to see anything that matches Sakurai's use of amiibo :/

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Attempts To Explain Why Zelda Wii U Wasn't At E3 2015

Haiassai

Personally, I don't believe Zelda will be an NX title. "The Last of Us" was showcased at E3 2013, same year they announced the PS4 coming out soon. I personally believe that Zelda was not on the floor because of this new gameplay mechanic is to be utterly different than before.

That said, I believe Reggie's comments are ludicrous. Zelda may have been announced for 2015, but everyone knew it was for Q3/Q4. In fact, many games, such as Star Fox, were announced for the following year. I think they should've at least shown a trailer and some information on the development to quench our thirsts.

Re: First Impressions: Our Maiden Flight In Star Fox Zero Prompts Mixed Emotions

Haiassai

Okay. What is with people being disenchanted with Nintendo fans' complaints about graphics? Yes, we the Nintendo community faced this barrage of insults when the Wii U was not up to par with other "next gen" consoles. We suffered together against these attacks, so to those regards I understand why Nintendo fans are defensive when it comes to the topic of graphics.

However, when it comes to big titled Nintendo franchises, we expect a polish. There's a reason why the 8-bit/16-bit eras of Nintendo was amazing: they had a polish that earlier consoles did not have. So to see a game where the graphics look really similar to Star Fox Assault... it's very disenchanting. Area 5 and Corneria have such similar shade contrasts that they don't feel like different atmospheres. While Nintendo is known for colour, this game could definitely use some darker tones.

We all want a game to fall in love with. A classic. That is only done when a certain amount of polish is added to it. The gameplay definitely has that and I am truly looking forward to it, but the aesthetics are vital too. I could get into an argument about how video games are an art, but we'd be here for months. All in all, we've waited so long for a Star Fox game—a franchise that I favoured more as a kid than Zelda (which speaks volumes)—that I'd rather wait another 2 quarters for this game to be fully polished than to play what we have here.

Little known about the story, lackluster graphics, and stereotypical music. I'm concerned, Nintendo. I really am.

Re: Metroid Prime Producer Wants to Make Another Sequel With Samus, "Not Involved" in 2D Titles By Yoshio Sakamoto

Haiassai

Okay, I've never played a Metroid game—though I do intend to get in one eventually—so please just inform me rather than stone me for what I am to say. Personally, I want a Zelda game that does not involve Link. It really would expand the universe and give Hyrule lore breadth. Like Triforce Heroes—I personally would rather not have Link as the protagonists. It makes little sense and muddies down the character of who Link is. It's similar to Halo Reach being one of the best Halo games. Similar to "The Horse and His Boy" being one of the best Narnia books. I'm tired of Nintendo thinking so formulaic that a universe needs a certain protagonist to make it a franchised game.

That said, why NOT have a Metroid game without Samus in it? Why is she so vital to the Metroid universe that writers cannot expand upon it?
