Re: Star Fox Zero Marks An Explosive Return To Form On Wii U

Haiassai

I think the gameplay is utterly fantastic and I will have fun playing this game.

I... do hope they polish the graphics. It isn't needed, but it could use more finesse. My biggest gripe is the music. It really... sucks. It's the stereotypical superhero kind of sound... bright and brilliant. No thank you. I'll take my gritty/unique space N64 lovely music.

I am very intrigued though. It will be a fun game. Star Fox fans have wanted something grand for a while, though... and while the gameplay will be amazing, I do hope the story, graphics, and music matches it.

Re: Super Mario Maker is the Final Name for the Anniversary Title

Haiassai

To be honest... I'm on the fence. I hope this sells utterly well. But does this make me go choochoo on the hype train? I don't know. I was somewhat disenchanted by "Tipping Stars." While I know there is so much more versatility in this game (as far as creation goes), the aspect that I think is brilliant on SMM is the same as TS, and... I was left disenchanted.

I'm on the fence. Were my feels represented merely due to the fact that John Numbers and Cosmo were really strong players and the stakes were high? Or did I have such anticipation because this could be a fun game for me? Maybe if a large enough community makes this game more than what it is, then I'll jump in.

Re: Interview: Lilian "Milktea" Chen Talks Smash Bros., Sexism and a Brighter Future

Haiassai

@NorthLightSuplx With all due respect, I feel like you entered this article with a certain mindset. Especially if your first attack on the interview is about her vernacular. While this is a professional site, no one here wears suits and ties. She speaks in the vernacular of the community she's in. You didn't hear her speaking that way in the TED Talk—if anything, that's professionalism: knowing your audience.

But to your main point: yes, she pushed away because of how hurt she felt by the community—explained in the TED Talk. She wants others to not be reclusive like she used to be. As someone who has been immersed in a (while light-hearted and not intendingly-offensive) racist community towards Asians for five years, I can fully understand where she comes from. It's easy to become the thing you hate when you are immersed in such a community—especially when you enjoy many aspects of said group. And while this is just my perspective and, in the article's case, her perspective, I believe we have snapshots of reliability for the rest of the world. If you disagree, that's your prerogative, but I can attest and totally relate to what Lillian has undergone—just in a different topic of abuse.

Re: Splatoon Producer Inks Out Reasons For Lack Of Voice Chat And Staggered Content Roll-Out

Haiassai

It doesn't answer why there isn't voice chat for friends.

I'm over it, personally—I'll use Skype, despite the inconvenience. However, Nintendo says it wants to reach all peoples, so removing voice chat opens gates. Little does it know/admin that it also is hurting other persons from playing it. I get that Nintendo is family friendly, but I don't see why they can't make games that appeal to a more particular audience. There are many Nintendo fans of old that have sadly grown out of the sentimental feelings Nintendo offers [which is a darn shame]. This could've been a way to get them back.

Re: Poll: Did The Splatoon Global Testfire Hit Its Targets?

Haiassai

I'm with the minority: I didn't hate it, but it wasn't a wowzer. I've voiced my issue already: when I'm able to communicate with my teammates, I think I'll enjoy the game better. I'm still going to get it on Day One due to my preorder, but I am not extremely drawn to it. Maybe when you custom your weapons and gear, that will be more appealing, as well. But right now, there is little that makes me want to play more and more.

Re: Feature: What We Want to See in the Splatoon Direct

Haiassai

@Dr_Lugae "You can't evolve online chat because unless the entire culture changes it will always be as bad as a the foulest players playing it"

Unless players are able to block out individuals rather than just a pure mute. I know I did that back in the days of Age of Empires II. I feel like people just place blanket statements on Nintendo's policies to accept what they do. "My country right or wrong," no?

If Nintendo is not going to accept VC ever, then they need to find a way for gamers to communicate to each other in what they deem is safe yet not stifling. I'll tell you one thing: saying "Good luck!" or whatever before an MK8 race is super stifling. Fortunately, that game doesn't need interaction. But the Splatoon generic built-in audio commands is a step in that direction, but still is rather limiting. If Nintendo wants to be without VC, they need to be creative in this field, or else the rest of the world will be disappointed.

Re: Feature: What We Want to See in the Splatoon Direct

Haiassai

@Kaze_Memaryu Your language in your first comment seemed to depict otherwise, as well as your comment to @Quorthon : to say that there is "no need at all for VC" is to miss our point. Sure, you could play the game without VC—there is no need like there is a need for it. However, it really does amplify the gameplay since this is a teambased game. I have seen teambased games use VC really effectively. You don't have to agree, that's fine, but by saying "there is no need" makes me question if you really see the point. Also, my issue is still unmet: what do you do with strangers you want to VC with? You can't get their Skype account in game...

Re: Feature: What We Want to See in the Splatoon Direct

Haiassai

@Quorthon It's conservative and creative, which sounds like an oxymoron, but that's how Ninty works. I'm not a Nintendo apologist, but I at least understand that delicate balance they're trying to work with. I get that they don't want to leave a young population in the dust while gamers our age dominate the scene. But in the same sense, you're absolutely right: they're leaving us hardcore gamers dry and wanting more lacking VC.

I personally see @outburst 's issue being resolved by having specific areas for casual and hardcore gamers. But bleh... :/

Re: Feature: What We Want to See in the Splatoon Direct

Haiassai

@outburst That's a fair point—one that I'd rather hear from the developers themselves. But your counter-argument is just as solid too—make a tournament section made for more hardcore gamers that want to use VC!

@Ic3pick039 Don't get me wrong: I fully agree with you. I'm just done with this debate since it's rather old and I've said my peace (or piece... both are applicable) many enough times. I'm now just arguing for those who argue that "there is NO need for VC." If you don't want it, fine, but don't claim something that isn't true [which, to clarify, isn't you. We're cool, broski ]

Re: Feature: What We Want to See in the Splatoon Direct

Haiassai

@Kaze_Memaryu Okay, this VC debate is getting old—especially with very little of the population seeming to not understand the other side. To note, I favour voice chat, but I see Nintendo's hesitancy. But to say that 3rd party VC works fine, the biggest issue is this: I have nearly no friends who own a Wii U (and I really don't know the percentage of those who would play Splatoon). How am I to communicate to my team if they are full of strangers?

As for "watching online matches" to see very little people who use VC... there's a reason: many are trying to showcase their own individual skill. In college, I witnessed a number of people using VC for Halo or TF2. My roommate became friends with a player through VC who lived across the country. Despite the stereotype of "13-year-old-boys who have nothing to say," there is a wealth of people who are more mature and have things TO say.

I am not here to argue that Nintendo should insert VC. I've done enough of that. But for those who do not care for VC, AT LEAST understand that we on the "other side" have a very valid argument. If anything, the new King of the Hill mode reeks of team strategy that would benefit from communication with your teammates. If you don't want VC, fine, but at least consider our side worth of an issue.

Re: Feature: A Fit-To-Burst History Of Kirby Games

Haiassai

I absolutely loved Kirby growing up. The gameplay, the colors, and the music... so much sentiment. Granted, I haven't played a Kirby game since Crystal Shards and I'm looking for a game that has the Kirby feel but isn't just made for little kids. Which one would you recommend?

Re: Famitsu Unleashes Xenoblade Chronicles X Score

Haiassai

This is why numbers mean nothing. Absolutely nothing. Number ratings give the reader an arbitrary sense of what how good the individual finds the game to be, but does not define what is good or bad about the games. Scores are a nice touch if added to the wealth of what the reviewers think, but ideally, it's best to have reviews without ratings.

Re: Pirate Bay Co-Founder Unable To Experience The Joys Of NES Behind Bars

Haiassai

@Bi-Mabeobsa it's not just that. It's WHERE the money goes to, as well. So much money goes to the distributor versus the actual creator of the artwork, and it just isn't right. I don't condone theft, but I understand the idea behind the Pirate Bay. It isn't to get things for free, but it's to support the idea that creativity belongs to the artist, not to the conglomerate.
