Re: Reaction: Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins Had Humour, Weirdness, Teases and Lots of Potential

The Great Fox should invest in bikes...

Anywho, I LOVED the animated short. Definitely cheesy and tropey at times, but brought back too many sentimental feels. If I was on the edge of getting the game this short would have pushed me to buy. Granted, I wish the animation in the game was as good as the polish on the game. Oh well — Platinum chose an interesting art direction (that I don't agree with).

Nintendo launched the amiibo with Smash, and it had a really good take on how theyd be used. Very few games have tried to innovate them past mere skins and for that reason ( and my student loans being undeferred) I have bought many a less amiibo. People don't like DLC — fine. However, if this is really a toy-to-life, I. need more than just a statue.

Re: Rumour: More Sources Highlight NX Controller 'Gimmick' and a Major Game Project

Haiassai

I think Nintendo is missing big by using Wi-Fi to connect the controller to the system. It forgets: Nintendo lovers and 20somethings of this generation LOVE retro. Why not have 25-mi long cables? There's nothing more retro than these badboys. Wi-Fi wouldn't be an issue. There would be no issue with latency. And if a gamer decides to go further, they can get another cable and attach it to double/triple/etc. the length. I see nothing wrong with this picture.

@Sean_Aaron can we not turn this into a Brit v Yank showdown — pun not intended. There are plenty of people from the States that recognise the importance of the 2nd Ammendment yet still see that our country is dangerously obsessed with firearms

Nonsequitor points for @Kirk

I think what this ultimately boils down to for everyone in this argument is hubris. @kingofthesofa clearly I don't spend enough time on the NL forums to notice who has it and who doesn't, but you are so right: the people who have made the most bombastic remarks speak only in conjecture rather than their own experience of the game (or apparently the Wii U, now that I hear) being fun or not. Fascinating.

Re: Talking Point: The Great Star Fox Zero Controls Debate Highlights Important Lessons

Haiassai

@Kirk Then tell me how you qualify fun. I don't share the same definition as @CreamyDream, but I am not one to trash a game without actually experiencing it. We aren't debating a scientific phenomena which is grounded around objective data. Any game is based around one's experience, which is solely subjective. Yes, there may be certain elements that resonates with a multitude of people, but until you play the game, how can you trash a game? What are you defining as "fun"?

Re: Talking Point: The Great Star Fox Zero Controls Debate Highlights Important Lessons

Haiassai

@Kirk
Firstly, have you played the game or are you merely talking from your own analysis of what others have played?

Secondly (and more importantly), the problem with your analogy between SNES StarFox and StarFox Zero is convention. Convention was already established that up goes and down goes down. A and B do something different. These were ideas established due to the fact that a handful of generations of videogame hardware solidified conventions for gamers to play StarFox SNES "intuitively."

A couple generations later, the idea of twin-stick was introduced. Many criticized this approach of gaming, saying it wouldn't stick. It wasn't conventional enough. However, we see in retrospect the plethora of advantages twin-stick gaming has to offer (assuming you're not a WASD+mouse elitist).

By now, we have an established convention of how third-person shooters should work — something much more solidified than during the SNES era. We expect that if you do x, y should happen. I haven't played StarFox Zero yet so I am willing to concede on an objective standpoint, but from what I have read and heard from critics (both on pro and con), it all makes sense. Is it intuitive? No, but whose fault is that: convention or the system itself? Conventions only change when new ideas are offered. Was this made primarily to showcase the Wii U gamepad? Sure. But the mechanics make sense and can offer a new experience to the game. 22 April will tell, I suppose.

Re: Rumour: More Claims Made For New Legend of Zelda on Wii U and NX, Gender Choice For Playable Character

Haiassai

@DizziParadise I find it odd. I fully agree with your comments about Link not being androgynous for the same reasons I disagree about your thoughts on VA. If done well (which is a key part), VA gives the characters more character. Sure, it's quicker to read, but if you speed read, do you really capture the essence of the person speaking or his/her environment? And adding your own voices in your head is the same idea of choosing Link to be a boy or girl. It gives you options, but lacks a fleshed out idea. I understand your fear about bad voice acting--I've definitely have heard my spoonful of weaksauce--but there are too many pros to have it out entirely. "Having the option" is a fair compromise, but even if it's less than par, I will choose VA over NVA

Re: Review: Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games (3DS)

Haiassai

I've never played a game in this series but have always been enticed by the idea. Why has there not been a good party game for Nintendo in such a long time when they thrive off of local multiplayer? Yes, I get it that SEGA is the co. that developed this, but it's a darn shame. Mario v. Sonic. Great idea. Olympic games that you can compete in with people around the world. Great idea. Execution. Poor.

This is just a shame.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life's Favourite Legend of Zelda Games - 30th Anniversary Edition

I can understand people being upset about the decisions, but it's quite disappointing to see people blind in their fervor and claiming that their belief that X should be on the top or Y shouldn't is gospel and all should bow down. I guess I shouldn't be surprised--it's the internet. It makes the best and worst of us — including Nintendo fans.

I personally loved Wind Waker. While I loved MM [arguably my #1] and wait for a game that has a similar level of darkness and tight-knit NPC personalities, WW was a breath of fresh air. I don't understand why people say "it brought nothing to the franchise." It sure did! It brought a much more cohesive version to a different timeline. It brought an artstyle that, while they went back 180 as @SNESDisney so calmly states, bears more semblance with the latest two iterations of the series (I'm including the Wii U one in this).

I am disappointed that they published this article only a few days after the poll, though. The numbers are scant. That said, I'm pleased with a good number of these titles
