Re: Talking Point: Are You Suffering From Animal Crossing: New Horizons Fatigue?

Glitchling78

I’m currently in the process of falling off hard, to the point where I’m actively disliking it each time I play.

I’ve spent about 90 hours in it since launch and I would say the last 20 hours have been a chore. The music is grating, characters are shallow, crafting and terraforming are tedious, fishing is mindless and everything just takes way too long to do. The tool breaking is also maddening.

It’s not even that I don’t like this style of game, Stardew Valley I love and that was made by one person.

@BionicDodo I agree that she should have researched before buying but she only wasted £5 so it wasn’t horrific. I sent her a link to a decent article of best indie games to point her towards more quality stuff.

I do think however that Nintendo is responsible for what appears on its own storefront. Extreme example but if my supermarket was selling talc with asbestos sprinkled in I would be annoyed with the supermarket for not vetting the brands it allows in, as well as the brand. Unfortunately it’s a problem with most big online services though, everything from the Steam store to Etsy are filled with low quality guff to sift through. At least they have reviews on their sites to make things easier while browsing.

A friend of mine bought a Switch the other day and while waiting for Animal Crossing to arrive she went on the eshop to buy a cheaper game (like under £20 so not unreasonable). She doesn’t keep up with gaming news so didn’t know what was good and ended up buying some shovelware and was disappointed.

The eshop is a mess and has been for at least a year. I don’t even think reviews would help considering trash can be discounted by like 95% to look appealing. What frustrates me further is that in the sale section, rubbish will rise to the top and decent stuff will go lower in the list.

@KingBowser86 Personally, I find Blue Sphere more trial and error. I love Sonic Mania but didn’t have the patience for Blue Sphere, ended up preferring the UFO stages (I sucked at both though!)

I’d love a Sonic Mania 2 but instead of including old Mega Drive stages, including Mania style versions of more modern stages. Stuff like Rooftop Run and Seaside Hill but as 2D pixel art. A man can dream!

Re: Nintendo Earned Almost $2 Billion In Digital Sales This Year, A 72% Yearly Increase

I can see both sides of the digital/physical thing and I’d say my library reflects that.
I buy digitally for games I know I’ll be regularly returning to like Animal Crossing and Splatoon 2 or indie titles. But physical for games I’ll either have big gaps between playing or games I’m unsure about and may want to trade in.

Personally I like the setup we have now, I wouldn’t want to move to an all digital future but it’s cool as an option. If we do though, Nintendo needs a lot more onboard storage from launch.

Re: Japan Picks Its Favourite Final Fantasy Game And Character

More people like Vivi than Sephiroth, that surprises me a lot. I love FFIX so I’m kinda biased towards it but I would’ve expected Sephy to be in the top 3.

FFX deserves top spot in my eyes. Incredibly ambitious game for the time. It’s kinda depressing that of the top 10 games only 2 of them were released in the past 15 years.

Re: Feature: The Most Relaxing Switch Games - Chill Games For Nintendo Switch

Glitchling78

@PikaPhantom haha actually, yeah that bit is quite intense. I found maybe 80% of it chill but then I could say the same for BOTW and that’s on the list.

Even with no possible death GRIS has a couple of stressful moments, and the Skull Cavern in Stardew can be a nightmare even for seasoned players. It’s a bit of a weird list as few games are chill throughout.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 22nd)

Glitchling78

I don’t have much time for gaming this weekend but I’ll fit in a little Dragon Quest XI. I just played a little more of the Switch bonus content (Erik’s Part) and it was great. I didn’t even realise this stuff wasn’t in the original game as it feels quite fleshed out (well, Jade’s felt like an anime filler episode)

Re: Reminder: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 And Puyo Puyo 2 Both Launch On Switch Today

Glitchling78

Just a heads up if you’re considering Sonic 2. I was watching GameXplain’s video playthrough of it and there were a few moments of noticeable slowdown. It wasn’t the recording as they mentioned it at the time. To be fair it might have only happened 3 or 4 times over the whole hour of play but if that’s something that bothers you it’s worth looking into.

Edit: Comment above suggesting otherwise. Maybe I’m wrong! Even if it’s only £6 I’m waiting until after payday as I’m completely broke so can’t verify.

Re: Guide: Pokémon Sword And Shield Expansion Passes - All You Need To Know, Including New Pokémon

Glitchling78

I found the base game so underwhelming and low quality (not just graphically, but also graphically) that paying for more of it is not appealing.

Besides, I swapped it for Dragon Quest XI S so unless I buy it again I wouldn’t be able to get it without rebuying.

The Mystery Dungeon game looks quite interesting though. I’ll give the demo a bash to see how it plays.
