Dynamax doesn’t really interest me. I would’ve preferred that they expanded a previously explored topic like regional variants or Mega Evolution but I guess that’s less marketable. Here’s hoping they still do new megas/regionals on top of the Dynamax but I doubt it.
The large open area on the other hand is a great idea. I’m glad weather is important since this is based on the UK and our weather fluctuates a lot. I hope new trainers appear there throughout the game since it sounds like it’s somewhere you’ll want to return to.
Raids, sounds alright. Hope you can either do it with randoms or at least the AI are competent.
Boxboy + Boxgirl with my partner, it’s incredibly charming and waaaay less frustratingly fiddly than Snipperclips. FFX2 and maybe another Sonic fangame if I get the time.
This is only a good thing. It’s nice they’re taking their time and (hopefully) not overwhelming their staff.
The script and general plot didn’t seem great but I doubt there’s much that can be done about that. I’ll be content with a passable movie for adults which won’t give children nightmares due to a freak show of a main character. Throw in cameos of Tails & Knuckles and I’ll be happy!
Update for anyone who’s reading this and is considering getting it. I continued playing and new bugs kept popping up, including a crash which made me lose over an hour (real time) of progress. I would not suggest picking this up.
My Time at Portia as the update is a welcome change even if it isn’t perfect. Also 2 Sonic fangames: Time Twisted and After the Sequel. I’m partway through the former and having a blast. It’s amazing what that community can do sometimes.
Personally, that original Lego Worlds one was just bland to me. Yeah it looks classier like you say but the updated version looks far more dynamic.
I had no idea Steamworld Dig 2 had such an ugly icon initially, that surprises me from such a well crafted game.
As for Owlboy, not only is it gross but the fact it’s off centre, in what looks like an accidental way, just feels cheap. The game itself is gorgeous so why not carry that over to the logo? Looks good now.
I like the Sonic one but it does kind of stand out against ones with logos.
I try not to be judgemental over something so small but my day job is improving pictures, it’s a force of habit.
Load times between buildings, and initial load are both still long. Menus are snappier while in them (THANK GOD) but when closing them there’s a new animation which causes the game to freeze for a couple of seconds. This freeze didn’t seem to happen to me when speaking to people which is a boon.
Speaking of speaking to people, the Django recipe bug that completely froze the game seems to have been fixed.
There are new animations and sound effects which is nice. No grass still but I fear the game wouldn’t be able to handle that anyway.
There’s plenty of new quests which is nice.
The horse is still janky to get on however the camera pulls back to give you a bigger view while you’re riding. This is better however there’s noticeable frame stuttering now which I guess is a result of having to show more stuff.
One major thing added is a notification showing how much EXP you get for basic tasks like crafting and chopping trees. I had no idea that chopping down trees gave so much experience!
I’d say it’s an improvement but it’s still not right. I would’ve been happy to not have as many additions so long as performance was perfect.
It’s a good deal but I’ve bought the big priced games I want, for now. If Pokemon and animal crossing are in this then why not? It feels kind of pre-ordery slapping down money early which, I’m not a fan of usually, but it’s a saving (instead of random canvas bag style junk) and you can still wait for reviews so I wouldn’t say it’s really a pre order.
Dream Sonic game: Christian Whitehead produced hand drawn 2D Sonic with the style and scope of the Rayman Origins/Legends series. Or even just Mania 2 featuring mostly new level themes.
What we’ll get is Sonic Team making some awkward to control 3D game with a half baked gimmick and tiresome plot.
I wish I wasn’t this cynical but poor old Sonic is grinding me down.
Team Teleportation without a doubt. You could go on holiday all the time. If you fancy going to Canada or Japan for the weekend, you just go. You could steal gold bullion from major banks/do smuggling in seconds... or for something more wholesome you could work for NASA and bring samples/photos back from planets.
Celeste for sure. I don’t really have the time for it right now but will pick it up while it’s cheap to throw on the backlog... at this rate might get to it next year ahah
@Kohaku the fishing gets easier. As your fishing skill levels up the green bar gets bigger. You can also upgrade the rod and eat meals with fishing buffs to help out I found fishing hard to start with too
I think they’ve gone about the marketing for this completely backwards. If we’d seen this all in motion in a well put together trailer it might not have been a complete dumpster fire.
The studio teasing a handful of images over a few months has left people to fill in the gaps, and when it’s regarding a franchise as spotty as Sonic it’s not a surprise people have assumed the worst.
While I think what we’ve seen looks bad, it’s all been out of context. We have no idea if it’s well written or what the tone will be. Looking forward to seeing a trailer to get a better idea of what it’ll be like.
@MJInnocent @MattFox Thanks! Yeah it is nerdy but I am nerdy ahah. It’s a while off (saving for a ring) but I’ll probably post it up on the forum once I’ve done it
I’ll be squeezing in FFIX when I can, just about to enter the final dungeon. It’s been a lovely blast of nostalgia and replaying as an adult has given me a new appreciation of the themes.
@subpopz I mostly agree, I prefer traditional animation too. That said, there’s plenty of Pokémon anime and anime movies out there already so I’m happy with this direction. It’s fun seeing how all the critters look this time around.
Also, somehow Aipom looks adorable and scary at the same time.
@sandman89 I’d say FFX with FFIX as a second choice.
Both have easy to understand turn based battles and great stories, which is typical of all the best Final Fantasys. FFX gets the win basically on graphics and immense scope of plot. While FFIX is my favourite and very charming, I have to admit it’s the slower and most dated of the two.
I’ve watched a couple of videos of this on PC, looks pretty fun. Will definitely be picking this up, I’ve basically rinsed Stardew Valley of stuff to do now so something similar is right up my alley.
@Thecoe my partner plays Worms online on the Switch... with some difficulty. There are players but not many so you end up playing the same people regularly. Due to the few players and the length of matches it could take up to 15 mins to find someone to play with. The people that do play have really stuck with it though.
I didn’t like the starters straight away but after a while and seeing the artwork I’ve warmed to Scorbunny and Grookey. Sobble is just a bit wet (pun intended).
I enjoyed the first (although never completed it) and loved the second game. After Sonic, these were my favourites on the Mega Drive. I’m definitely down for this at some point, intrigued to see all the new crazy enemies.
I’m expecting Gen 8 but I fear we won’t be shown anything in-game. What I would love would be brief shots of the first stage starters, the overworld and the battles. What I expect is a load of live action nonsense, the logos and maybe CGI of the box art legendaries. Either way, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’m hyped.
Additional gambit setups in FFXII is a literal game changer. I didn’t really enjoy the original but I was at a time in my life where I was falling out of gaming and a game as huge as FFXII just wouldn’t stick. Stuff like this and the fast forward feature might make me like it better.
Shame that it seems they didn’t overhaul the bland characters along with it.
This was a great Direct in my eyes, struggled to choose just 3 in the poll. I don’t know how I’m going to fit everything in considering this and all the other stuff that’s already been announced that wasn’t here.
Same as normal, Smash and Shining Resonance Refrain.
I’m going through World of Light, it’s pretty lengthy and I’m enjoying it a lot. Have barely played any other modes.
As for Shining Resonance, it’s kind of boring me. I don’t think I would recommend it if anyone’s considering picking it up. Everything in it feels just feels flat.
@klingki I 100%d Stardew last week, similarly I was waiting on the final artifact for a long time. It was in town where there seems to be fewer possible spots. In the end I used a reset method I saw on a forum (find spot(s) in an area, hoe, if it’s not what you want then reset the game and ignore them for that day, next day try same spot(s) again and they will have different items, repeat if required). Also it’s handy to have the tracker perk if you don’t already. Happy hunting!
@cucholix This concerns me with these ports, especially FFX. That game had great music for the most part and I’d be gutted if they compressed it too much. I’m not a full-on audiophile but sound is a big part of the experience/atmosphere.
Stardew Valley, I’m going for 100%. 1 artifact, 1 recipe and the Gold Clock left. My save is almost at 200 hours. I saw a bus with a purple star on it while I was out this morning and my brain thought it was an Iridium Quality bus. I’m going a little mad.
I played both and loved them (except the infamous repeating section in the first). I’d be happy for an HD collection but fingers crossed we get a sequel.

Dynamax doesn’t really interest me. I would’ve preferred that they expanded a previously explored topic like regional variants or Mega Evolution but I guess that’s less marketable. Here’s hoping they still do new megas/regionals on top of the Dynamax but I doubt it.

Re: Brand New Pokémon And Legendaries Revealed For Pokémon Sword And Shield
I don’t like either legendary but the other designs are neat. Wooloo is my favourite, I predict it’ll add the Steel type to be like wire wool.
Re: Marvel Discusses Potential Smash Bros. Ultimate Crossover, But Don't Count On It
@duffmmann Speak for yourself, I’d love Toejam & Earl in Smash. It’d be jammin’!
(Before I get flamed in this surprisingly angry thread, I’m not saying they deserve to be in Smash)
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 1st)
@Trellgoth man, I can’t wait to get Lapis X Labyrinth! It looks a lot of fun. I don’t have the funds right now but as soon as I can I’m picking it up.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 1st)
Boxboy + Boxgirl with my partner, it’s incredibly charming and waaaay less frustratingly fiddly than Snipperclips.
FFX2 and maybe another Sonic fangame if I get the time.
Re: All Those amiibo On Your Shelf? You Can't Use Them In Super Mario Maker 2
Is the plural of Amiibo just Amiibo? Thank heavens I’ve never had a conversation about Amiibo, that could have been a terrible faux pas.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 25th)
A little bit of RPG Maker on 3DS and some FFX-2 on Switch. Mostly will be doing house and garden stuff

Re: My Time At Portia Switch Update Improves Performance And Adds New Content
I’ve just tried this out, there are caveats.
Load times between buildings, and initial load are both still long. Menus are snappier while in them (THANK GOD) but when closing them there’s a new animation which causes the game to freeze for a couple of seconds. This freeze didn’t seem to happen to me when speaking to people which is a boon.

My Time at Portia and possibly a little FFX&X-2. I’ve put almost 50 hours into Portia in 2 weeks, fair to say I’m enjoying it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 27th)
My Time at Portia, I love the game but the menu lag is frustrating as anything.
Also RPG Maker on 3DS. I’ve decided to propose to my partner by means of a short, 1hr or so RPG.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 20th)
My Time at Portia. I’m starting to get to grips with it now, having a lot of fun.

Stardew and Downwell. The latter has been on my backlog since launch, excited to jump in.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 16th)
Splatoon 2 and Stardew Valley again. I’ve been out of the loop with Splatoon for a while so this Splatfest is a good chance to get back into it.

Re: Armoured Mewtwo Trademarked In Japan
@justin233 I agree. I think there’s so much potential for more megas and regional forms. I couldn’t care less about Z moves though.
It would be great if Gamefreak would stick with a concept and run with it rather than just drop it in favour of some new gimmick.
That said, I’m always happy to see non-battle gimmicks stick to just one generation for some variety e.g secret bases, poke pelago

Smash and FFIX easily.

FFIX because FFIX

Re: Nintendo Direct To Air Tomorrow, Wednesday 13th February
Hopes:
Spyro
Metroid Prime Trilogy
FFIX (instant drop on eshop)
Mario Maker 2
Mario 3D World
...world peace
I won’t get them all but any one of those would make me happy (especially Spyro)

Smash for when I have energy, Shining Resonamce Refrain when I don’t. Maybe some Mario Kart with my partner.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 12th)

Splatoon 2 (go Team Friends!) when I have energy and Stardew Valley when I do not have energy.
