If you weren't able to catch the Sonic The Hedgehog movie in cinemas before the COVID-19 outbreak, there's no need to worry as Paramount Pictures has decided to bring forward the film's digital release.
It'll now be made available at the end of this month on 31st March, which is pretty crazy considering its theatrical release was Valentine's Day. This digital launch will be followed by the Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD release on 19th May.
Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the many films scoring an early release on digital because of the current global pandemic. Various upcoming movies like No Time to Die and Black Widow have been delayed.
Fortunately, this decision is unlikely to impact Sonic's box office sales, as it's already banked USD $306 million worldwide and managed to surpass Pokémon Detective Pikachu as the highest-grossing video game film of all-time in North America.
Did you manage to catch Sonic while he was in cinemas? Have you been holding out for the digital release? Tell us below.

Corona virus is changing the world we live in drastically.
I really enjoyed the movie. Jim was outstanding!
Didn’t care for the film at all save for Jim Carrey’s scenes. Movie felt like it was made twenty years too late. Not atrocious by any means but really devoid of any depth or genuine humor.
Nice, though I have a DVD quality copy already. A movie I had no expectations for and left surprisingly excited and wanting a sequel. Jim Carrey, back on form, was the perfect choice for Robotnik too.
Great, I was hoping to take my son to the cinema but we never got. ‘Take a little space... to make a better place... #HealTheWorld’ stay safe everyone.
I’ll give it a watch. After hearing mixed responses I held off until streaming. While the updated trailer looked amusing, it didn’t look very Sonic-y outside of jokes about his speed. Really hope the Mario movie is set in the Mario universe.
Great film. Watched it twice. Carrey excellent. Also recommend The Invisible Man.
This movie sucked. Annoying and stupid.
I was excited to see the new “Invisible Man” was getting an early release on-demand. Then they decided to charge $20 for the rental. What initially seemed like something supportive to the isolated, turned into a gross-feeling cash grab. I was more than willing to pay, but I’ve been driven to piracy by this ludicrous price point.
@Juga yeah pretty much my sentiments. James played it too safe. But overall decent first movie. I'll get the BluRay when it comes out
I loved it. I need it on blue blur ray.
@Toshiro_Baloney To be fair, I'm not entirely opposed to the price in this case. Maybe some consideration should be taken for the economic circumstances movie-goers are facing. But if my wife and I were to take our girls to go see Onward in the theater (just as a hypothetical. I know it's coming to Disney+ in about a week and a half), we would be paying more than $19.99 and would get one viewing out of it. So I can see the rationale in the pricing
It's time for round 2 against Birds of Prey: https://i.redd.it/ai6zdm462eh41.png
But I don’t wanna wait until May! I wanna buy it on blu-ray with the digital copy right meow! Lol. I hate buying overpriced digital only movies...
$20 is too much for Sonic, i wait till redbox.
Really disliked the movie. Not enough compelling action and when there is, it doesn’t last long enough. The writing is bad today and it’s gonna age like milk in years to come.
May doesn't seem that early compared to other movies. Infact, that seems to be the normal amount of time.
@UmbreonsPapa The same could be said about any movie release ever. There’s a reason it costs more to see it in the theatre. But the theatre isn’t an option for most people right now and the prices of rentals have already been set at a third (or better). Charge me $20? Let me “own” the digital title (or whatever). Or that’s how I see it anyway - the value isn’t anywhere near there for me. Hopefully the market shows I’m not alone.
@Agriculture Thanks, I hate it.
The movie is well worth seeing for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. It is good fun all around.
Honestly the movie wasn’t bad in my opinion.I think they have room for a sequel(with improvement of course)
I wanted to see it but then the virus happened, luckily I should be able to see it soon.
I am a Sonic fan. Therefore, I love this movie and everything about it.
That’s not satire or anything, that’s genuinely how I feel about this movie.
