Sonic Frontiers is out soon, and as part of this, developer Sonic Team has come up with a fresh new animated logo.
It revealed this via social media, and in an English post over on the official Sonic Channel website in Japan. This logo is intended to be used for not only the latest video game project but also other forms of Sonic entertainment.
Here's what Sonic's creative director Kazuyuki Hoshino had to say about it:
Hey Sonic Fans! The Sonic IP is working on becoming bigger than ever. This year with "PROJECT SONIC '22" we are developing more than just Sonic Frontiers and Sonic Origins. We are also working on getting Sonic out on more mediums such as merch, social media, collaborations with artists and influencers, and more! We hope that our fans enjoy these activities as much as we do.
As part of this effort, we are pleased to bring you a brand new, " Sonic Team Animated Logo! "
The Sonic Team is full of energy and motivation, consisting of veteran team members, who have been here for a long, long time, and newcomers bringing in their own fresh take on things. These talented groups of people are able to come together to make this team even stronger. We want our fans to know that when they see this logo, they are guaranteed to get a good game from Sonic Team.
My team and I look forward to showing off this new logo movie to our fans on multiple occasions in the future.
What do you think of Sonic Team's new animated logo? Tell us in the comments.

So fast…. So neat.
Easily my favorite of theirs.
Honestly, could you imagine Nintendo doing this in the leadup to a major Mario release?
This is so emblematic of Sega's problems. Always putting the cart before the horse.
Feel like the sound effects are a little obnoxiously overdone, maybe wouldn't have done the grass, but it looks fine for what it is.
It's been a while, but Sonic Team finally got something right.
Cue drum riff
Cue laugh track
I'll show myself out.
I love it!
Instant classic.
I was thinking SEGA did a lot of things to impress the fans but their Sonic games are still have some issues.
@TheCrabMan Were you expecting 60fps?
I forget which Sonic trailer had this, but I've seen this logo recently, which considering the number of trailers they have put out means anywhere from a few days to a month ago.
Quite sleek looking… though i prefer the animated Sonic Team logo during the Sega Saturn era (appeared in NiGHTS, Burning Rangers intro scene).
I like it. It reminds me of the 2008 SEGA logo.
Isn't there anything more exciting brewing at Sega HQ?
I wholeheartedly agree with @Maulbert. This is frankly embarrassing.
Not bad I guess. Now make another racing game like Transformed but with more characters.
I really like it, it feels like sonics,
“ We want our fans to know that when they see this logo, they are guaranteed to get a good game from Sonic Team.”
The nonstop parade of arrogance continues but I think a big segment of the fanbase is buying Into this, they’re gonna go absolutely berserk when the first 7/10 review hits and I fear to think of the reaction to anything even lower than that.
@Maulbert
I don’t think I’d mind it if they were honest about their track record but instead they say things like “consisting of veteran team members, who have been here for a long, long time” as if this is good thing considering their history and trying to position the Sonic Team logo like it’s the Nintendo Seal of Quality sounds like satire. They could be humble but their PR plan is instead to act like they’re a AAA studio who consistently pumps out GOTY contenders,.
@SalvorHardin The thing is, if you create a great product, it speaks for you, and you don't have to do such a pathetic PR release like this. There's nothing wrong with a logo, but seriously, name me ONE video game company that released it as a PR stunt before the game besides this. I mean, I love the Capcom logo, but Capcom puts it where it belongs: in front of their games, not on YouTube.
@RubyCarbuncle Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, and Team Sonic Racing were all developed by Sumo Digital. Sumo is not owned by Sega, so I imagine there are a few more steps involved instead of just telling Sonic Team to make a new Sonic game.
@Maulbert lolwut. nintendo does absolutely nothing leading up to major franchises
@RickRau5 That's my point. Their games speak for themselves.
@Maulbert tbf this was on their jp website blog about promoting sonic generally and not western pr.
Its a cool tradition to have eleborate logos, for games. But its better to have this behind the scenes stuff after the game launched.
I wish Sonic Team and SEGA would do more non-Sonic games such as Nights or Billy Hatcher.
@RareFan Rhythm Thief was technically non-Sonic Team game. Sonic Team is a brand. The division of Sega where Sonic Team is located, makes Mario & Sonic Olympics, regular Olympics and Puyo games. The battle portions of Sakura Wars where also by Sonic Team.
I miss the “Sonic Team” voice that used to accompany their logo.
Just thinking about it gives me those nostalgic feels from the Saturn era…
Before watching the reveal, I thought they were going to go for the minimalism that other companies have adopted. Glad they didn't. Call me old-school, but the ultra-minimalism of logos nowadays never seem to work well, at least to my eyes.
glances with disdain at nearby Pringles can
looks at screen towards Bandai Namco logo
@calbeau ah thats different. Its an animation.
The Sonic team logo already works because you can put in negative black and white cleanly unlike others logos
Thank goodness it's not a dumbed down logo like every other company
I like it. The logo needed a change. This one is fast (no pun intended) and right to the point.
This is a little bit off topic, but does anyone else really dislike Sega's own logo thing at the end of their videos with the eye. I find it uncomfortable to look at.
This one is nice though
@Nua I know.
This 5 second clip is the best Sonic related project Sonic Team had ever made since Sonic Generations.
Not too shabby. Can't necessarily say I like it more than the last one, but it does bring Sonic into the current era, and with the success of Sonic Origins and the two Sonic movies, Sonic has seen a resurgence of sorts. And I am pretty excited to play Sonic Frontiers to be honest. I am actually a little excited for Sonic's future.
Nice, simple, and straight to the point, exactly what it should be.
