Another Saturday is now upon us, bringing with it another chance to sit down and play some of our favourite games. This weekend just so happens to see the release of one of the biggest games of the year for Nintendo, and it therefore comes as very little surprise that almost the entire team is getting stuck into a new pocket monster-catching adventure. Feel free to read our entries discussing Pokémon, Pokémon, and Pokémon below, and get involved via our poll and comments section below. Enjoy!

Like many other Switch owners, this weekend I’m playing Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! Based on the four hours I’ve spent with the game so far, I’m rather enjoying the overall simplicity of the title. While not everyone might feel the same way, I think it’s a pleasant change of pace from the usual games that do require a lot more effort to play.
Right now, I’m on the outskirts of Mt. Moon. My current party is comprised of Pikachu, Ivysaur, Charmander, Magikarp, Chansey and Nidorina. I love how you can easily swap out Pokémon with the quick-access box. It’s a lot better than having to find a PC on a regular basis. Generally, I like all the adjustments that make the game a lot more streamlined. Seeing Pokémon follow my character and waiting for rarer ones to spawn in the wild has also been a thrill - as is catching the tiny and big versions of each monster. I could harp on all day about how fantastic my journey through the Kanto region has been so far, but I’ll leave it at that for now. You’ll no doubt hear more about my adventures in the coming weeks.

Which titan of business was it who uttered the line ‘Sleep is for wimps’? Gordon Gekko? Derek Trotter? Regardless, I’ll be channelling the sentiment as Civilization VI devours my weekend. A fully fledged portable Civ is an exciting prospect, but it was a colossal time-sink when shackled to a PC – now nowhere is safe. So, you’ll find me empire-building on the bus, in the bath and in bed. Look forward to a full report next week. Until then, bonjour.
N.B. Yeah, Del-Boy said the sleep thing.

This weekend I'll be joining Pokémon trainers the world over in returning to the Kanto region. I had a hard time deciding on whether I'm Team Eevee or Team Pikachu, but ultimately nostalgia won out and I settled on Team Pikachu. I'm far from the fresh-faced youngster I was when the Generation 1 games launched, but they still hold a special place in my heart. Every time I've played the games at a prerelease event, I couldn't help but smile. Now that it's finally here, I can't wait to enjoy the full experience. Now if you'll excuse me, there's a truck I need to look for Mew under.

Get ready to gasp and revolt in absolute shock as I reveal that I too will probably end up playing Pokémon this weekend. I was the poor soul responsible for putting far too many hours into it over the few days before release to bring you our definitive verdict (you can read my review right here) so my remaining tasks are finishing off the PokéDex and taking on those pesky Master Trainers.
I was also incredibly excited to start transferring my Pokémon GO catches onto my Switch, only to discover that my phone doesn't seem to be supported - so no Meltan for me. Do I look around for a new phone to get that sorted, or is that going ridiculously overboard? Things we gamers do, huh?

I am playing Pokémon, and only Pokémon. Okay, maybe also some Splatoon 2. But mostly just Pokémon. I went to pick up my Pikachu edition at the midnight release last night, got home, and promptly passed out before even starting the game because I have recently become old and tired. But now I need to make up for that lost time, so the rest of this weekend, I will be in Kanto (with some yerba mate so that I don’t fall asleep again).

By the sheer power of my will (and the boring responsibilities of being a grown up) I won't be playing Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee this weekend. Instead, I'll be taking the multiplayer melee racing of Collidalot for a spin for review.
There have also been some new updates to Paladins, so what better time to resume my healthy love for this bombastic hero shooter? God help my free time...

This weekend I will actually try something out of my comfort zone, a Pokémon game - I went with team Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! It'll be my second game of the franchise after Pokkén Tournament. I will hopefully at long last ‘get it’ and become one with the rest of the Pokémon loving crowds. I'll also be working my way through some Starlink: Battle for Atlas and Valkyria Chronicles 4.
Sometimes you don’t really notice how much you miss something until it somehow makes its way back into your life along with a nostalgia overdose and GRIP is exactly that. Super fast, over the top, loud soundtrack arcade racing action where every side is up. I hope to put a few tournaments in this weekend.
My game of the week is Super Hydorah, the greatest Gradius game Konami never made. So very happy to at long last play the Locomalito and Gryzor87 shmup love letter on Nintendo hardware.

I'm going to make a start on Okami HD. I downloaded it last week but haven't touched it yet
LG Eevee is probably going to destroy any and all free time I have this weekend, I could maybe see picking up Super Mario Sunshine or Luigi's Mansion since I just bought those up on sale.
There is only Diablo
Here Here, I second Diablo. Act V is calling out to me
Why isn't Diablo 3 on the list? That's what I'm playing this weekend, along with Pokemon Let's Go. #TeamEevee!
Still grinding monster hunter GU
Done with Starlink, halfway through Inside, considering Civ VI.
I’ve just completed Diablo’s campaign last night, so I’m looking forward to trying adventure mode.
But my other recent purchases need a look in now too. Rogue Legacy and also Runner3 and Pinball FX3 tables on discount.
Especially as I’m on a bus into town for a concert tonight, and Diablo drains the battery fast.
I really hope the QoL improvements from the Let's Go games are incorporated into future releases. One needs to actually play the game before poo-pooing the new mechanics. I'm not happy about the lack of held items and abilities, but the distinction between wild encounters and trainer battles gets rid of the monotony and tediousness that would occasionally plague the main series games, particularly where cave exploration is concerned.
This is the most fun that a main series Pokémon RPG has been in years, and I do not believe that we needed yet another Kanto remake in order to make it so, but I guess that Let's Go is also a way for Game Freak to experiment a little and see what new mechanics the userbase is likely to be receptive to.
Stupidly, much of the limitations from the original games have been carried over here. I get limiting binocular descriptions and notebook entries to dialogue boxes in the original games, but the fact that they are still artificially persisting with the technical constraints of a 1996 handheld game is quite frustrating at times. I get that this is a smaller-scale title, but it makes little sense for a publisher that is poised to sell millions of copies to be so damn frugal in this way.
Mother Russia Bleeds and Atomic Robo-Kid with a friend. Then Ill do some pre-work this weekend to have some free time at Tuesday for Warframe.
So like many let's go Pikachu is top of my playlist this weekend. However DB3 is too good not to want to compete some rifts!
Dark souls. 37 hours in so far.
This week I will be mostly playing:
Kirby’s Adventure Wii
Pokémon SoulSilver
(So the same as last week)
It would be Civ VI if my copy had arrived. Not a big deal though, I'll keep playing Dragon Ball FighterZ and Dark Souls.
Still playing Red Dead Redemption 2.
@dystome how did you find starlink? Argos has the starter bundle for £40 which is a bargain. I put a pre order on it today and was going to collect it after work.
If I don’t pick up Arms this weekend, I’ll likely be playing my usual time killers in Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Diablo all the way till smash
I bought Let's go Eevee Digitally. It was only like 4.2 Gb. It appears to be easy and just catching them nets you exp. It is not a bad Pokemon game. It has its charm. It has just been simplified. Your rival is just too nice. What is that?
Busy weekend for me. Just sold my psvr to free up some space and money for other games. Got Diablo last week and Pokemon yesterday and have just 're ordered starlink starter bundle for switch at £40, Civilization, NIER automata and octopath traveller. I will prob do my usual dip in to them all and see which one grips hardest.
Pokémon Go and Diablo.
I had a nice little birthday haul today. Dark souls, Skyrim, diablo3 and an eshop voucher. Where to start?
The Messenger!
Civ v and randomized pokemon red until monday then i will grab civ vi
Hmm, still mainly Octopath Traveler - I'm just about to start the round of third chapters. However, I also intend to get back to Phantom Hourglass and make my fourth or fifth visit to the Temple of Time. I also might, just possibly, try a little Persona 3 Portable - or is that and Octopath too much RPG for one weekend?
I'll be playing Splatoon 2 and Undertale this weekend. Perhaps if I find time, I'll play some Paladins too.
I fired up the Wii U and have been playing some Smash 4. I’m trying to get my combos refreshed to get ready for Ultimate. Only 3 weeks away baby!!!
One of the Pokemon Lets Go games. Never played a game in the series because I was waiting for a mainline entry to hit home consoles. Hopefully it's as good a place for newcomers to start as reviews have suggested.
Civ 6 and Dark Souls for me.
Victor Vran, Rocket League, Diablo
God of War II on PS3 and Valkyria Chronicles IV DLC on Switch.
ARMS Party Crash and some Starlink. I'm hoping to pick up a new ship pack for Starlink. That should even the odds a little bit.
I'm also going to take a stab at Gal Metal using buttons. I have been using motion controls up to now and it is just not working for me.
Diablo, running my crusader on Torment IV now. Hoping to finally get some set pieces. Doing my monk and necromancer in season mode. Noticed Starlink is on Sale in Netherlands so may pick it up later this weekend. Sorry Monster Hunter, have no time for you at the moment. Dark souls is also on hold until further notice. Next week Warframe coming out, smash little after that. I think i need to take some vacation time.
I picked up Pokémon let’s go Pikachu yesterday so mainly that and maybe a dabble with Diablo 3
Long time since I've played a Civilization game, so wonder about buying that after I've crushed Malos one last time in Torna this weekend!
And work my way through Dark Souls a bit.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA. The simmering graphics can be annoying though.
Lets go pikachu with the kids.
On a whim, I picked up Runner 3 for a measly 10 bucks on the switch eshop, down from 30. Have y’all played this? It’s fantastic. The level of care and attention that went into this game is truly impressive. The humor is outrageous, and it comes at you from every inch of the screen. Then there’s the top-notch and memorable voice-over from Charles Martinet (Mario). If you haven’t picked this one up, now’s the time. The deeply discounted price is an absolute steal. You won’t regret it!
Pokemon ultra sun and x(shiny pokemin hunting), pokemon shuffle, Pokemon quest, Mario and Luigi superstar saga+browsers minions, ssb4 and maybe a bit more of BOTW or one of the 3ds games I haven't gotten around to get
Also a bit of rayman origins on 360 and assassins creed on ps3, and ff7 on emu
Let’s Go Pikachu for me. It’s certainly polished and charming, but it’s insultingly simple and way too easy. Simplicity isn’t necessarily always bad, but without wild battles, it turns into hours of simply chucking Pokéballs, and that’s before even mentioning the lack of hold items, abilities and breeding. I’ll stick with it to the end, because I’m enjoying the nostalgia and presentation, but these games are a massive and unfortunate step backwards and leave plenty to be desired, especially for someone who has religiously played the main series games.
Diablo 3, until my copy of Civ 6 arrives later.
It’s a retro weekend for me. I plan to fire up Tetris attack, play a little zombies ate my neighbors, snk 40th on the switch and oh yeah I will finally sit down and give sensible soccer a go on the mega drive. I’ve heard good things and I had a relative send me a copy from England. Wasn’t there a story a while back about a spiritual successor heading to switch???
Been playing a lot of dark souls remastered lately thanks to the help of a friend who is also playing. If I’m not playing that, I see myself playing Spyro on my PS4 while I listen to an audiobook for school
I’m on a trip right now and brought my 3DS. Gonna be playing Shin Megami Tensei Overclocked and Monster Hunter Stories.
Have Pokémon waiting for me when I get home
Today starts my week long vacation! And what better way to spend that time than going out into the wild hunting for Pokemon! Does anyone know, if you want to play two players, can the second player jump in at anytime?
Just Valkyria Chronicles 4.
Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8, and SNK Heroines. Probably throw in some Neo Geo games too.
Diving back into splatoon 2. Whenever i get bored of this game, i know that if i put it down for a few weeks or months and come back to it, I'll love it all over again. Such a well made and cool game! Trying to get a bit better with some other weapons (normally just play with dualies) so giving a slosher a go.
Tackling the labo fishing rod with my son while the wife and daughter are out shopping. Plus a bit of enter the gungeon and crypt of the necrodancer. Also played a bit of Fast RMX yesterday for the first time in forever.
Basically trying to get some yse out of some of my played games before i start on mario odessy (yes i know I'm a year late)
Pokemon and Civ. And a little of Stardew Valley too.
Oh and I played Pokemon Go a bunch while I was out shopping today too.
Still on Dark Souls Remastered
Complete 180 from what ive posted in recent weeks. So im taking a vacation on dark souls until i can muster up the courage to treat me being cursed. I've since gotten back into hollow knight as i never finished it due to its difficulty. Funny thing is, after playing dark souls, hollow knight is so much easier than it was. Aside from occasional spurts of hollow knight. I've been fully engulfed in the messenger. Like non stop. I'm about 7 hours in at the moment and I'm looking to do another deep run tonight, tomorrow and possibly finish it. Love this game so much!
Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu all weekend long
Diablo 3 and dark souls plzzzz
Erika's two fingers in the article pic makes it look like she's waiting for Trainer and Pikachu to leave so she can toke!
But seriously, just playing the usual until Smash comes along:
MMX4 casual stage speedruns
PPTetris Demo bouts of Tetris
MM11 Demo Block Man
Sonic Mania Plus casual stage speedruns
MK8DX Bob-Omb Battle on Frantic as Inkling Girl
Gonna play Diablo III as well as Lets Go Eevee
In between playing Diablo 3 and Dark Souls I have been playing Pokemon Eevee.
#teameevee
Halo 5, this weekend seems to be the last opportunity to get HCS REQ packs as HCS for the game is ending.
Gotta catch ‘em all.
#TeamPika
And grocery store. That’s it
I was kinda scared of Pokémon Let’s Go, Pikachu at first, but after playing for about 15 hours I can honestly say that I’m happy with the game. Not 100% happy, but happy. It’s a nice, relaxing way to re-experience Kanto in it’s most beautiful iteration yet.
I started replaying persona 4 dancing all night on my psvita. Tomorrow I’m going to the biggest flea market in europe (the vintage, retro and collectors expo in utrecht.) I’m hoping to either find some rare psvita games or a sega saturn and dreamcast (there are 2.000 stands from
Which 500 specifically for toys, games and collectibles)
Eevee and I will be catching some mon and wrecking team rocket.
Not playing Phantasy Star 1 on my Switch sadly...
World of Final Fantasy while back in my hometown for my sister’s wedding. I do love the portability of the Switch!
Just Splatoon 2 and Animal Crossing: New Leaf for me. Still not convinced Pokémon Let's Go is a game I need to play.
poochy and yoshis woolly world
Pokemon let's go eevee!!!!! I'm loving it so far! I still have to play xenoblade 2, I'm in the end of chapter 8, so it shouldn't be too far, maybe i can squeeze in between my time with eevee
Battlefield V (PC)
RedDead (ps4)
Valky4 (Switch) quick trip on sunday. Almost done, so only playing when not at home to make it last 😞
Playing Diablo
@Glitchling78 woot!... I spent last weekend also visiting my sister For her housewarming. Valkyria 4 and flipping death Were my games.
Yep, Switch is amazing on stay overs
My daughter and I are playing Let's Go Eevee. And despite the annoyance of not battling wild Pokémon, its just like playing Yellow. Just really souped up. We're having fun so far. And she really geeked out when we ran into Jessie, James and Meowth in Viridian City
@UmbreonsPapa I geeked out too, at 33. And when I saw Meowth sleeping above the Mt Moon entrance. And when I ran into someone familiar coming to my aid in front of Rock Tunnel. It’s so fun.
I am playing:
1. Civilization VI - Switch
2. Diablo 3 - Switch
3. Darksiders Warmastered Edition - PS4
Not playing Let's Go as due to a screw up with Amazon.ca I had to cancel the preorder and will have to pick it up later this week. Trying to finish Ultra Moon and play some Picross 3D Round 2 and maybe some Light of Hope.
I’m playing “Grocery Shopping Adventure Presented by Walmart.”
Is Smash ever going to come out? Longest wait EVER.
@BigE happy birthday, enjoy!
@justin233 Cool. Just got the DLC. Finally located my car, but the red light at the intersection really set back my time.
@Judgedean Also playing this and getting towards the end. It looks rough but have really enjoyed it! Really opened up after about ten hours.
Still chugging away at Red Dead Redemption 2.
This weekend its Lets Go Pikachu and the ever present RDR2.
Splatoon 2 - Playing the SplatFest this weekend.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) - Water Temple is hindering my progress, but I hope to finish it this weekend.
Microsoft Solitaire Collection (Android) - Still playing random Klondike hands.
Tinker (Win 10) - Resorted to watching a Let's Play since I can't play it myself.
I'm Playing Dragon Quest XI as usual which is definitely no bad thing but I'll also be finding time to play Lego Ninjago on Ps4 and Tetris Effect on PSVR.
Switch will be used for Resisdent Evil Revelations and Torna The Golden Country which kind of feels like I'm near the end but who knows seeing as I spent over a hundred hours with the base game lol.
I have never been a Pokemon fan before but the more i see and hear of Let's Go in getting more and more tempted...
@WiltonRoots Hated Okami on PS3 loved it on switch enjoy mate
Working through Megaman Legacy Collections after beating 11 recently. Currently on Megaman 5. Trying to get through them all before Black Friday when I will start Starlink!
I've started Mega Man 11, and I'm going to take advantage of the free login campaign on Final Fantasy XIV starting tomorrow.
Red dead 2, Black Ops 4 onrush, Dirt 4 and various Switch indie games I caught on sale this week!!
I'll be continuing my annual playthrough of A Link to the Past! Just got to the Dark World and I'm almost finished with the Palace of Darkness. My relationship with that dungeon is complicated--I love how you can choose the route you take through it by choosing which doors to unlock first, but I dislike the somewhat bland setting and how easy it is to miss some small keys. That said, I cannot wait to take on the Helmasaur King! He's probably my favorite boss in the game aside from Blind, and he always makes the trek through the dungeon worthwhile. And after this, then the real fun begins once the Dark World opens up!
...Ok, I'm done gushing now. Once I get going about my favorite game of all time, it's pretty hard for me to stop!
@Frendo I completely agree. I have been replaying Portrait of Ruin, and it amazes how well the NDS 'Vanias still hold up.
Replaying Portrait of Ruin for the umpteenth time, as well as finally playing the 2 Dragon Fantasy games on 3ds. Picked them up due to each currently being 99 cents. I have to admit, they are pretty great little games.
@LewiTee thanks mate, enjoy the weekend. ✊🏻
Still chipping away at Red Dead Redemption 2. Planning to boot up Smash on the 3DS as well as a refresher ahead of Ultimate.
Pokémon let’s go pikachu. Duh!
My time atm will probably be split between Super Mario Party and Let's GO Eevee. :3
Hyper light drifter, I'm close to finish it at 100%. Such a perfect game!! NG+ after.
@River3636
Exactly, I was waiting for my rival to be sassy like before. Too nice and charming
@thesilverbrick
Agreed, extremely easy. Hoping next years pokemon ups the difficulty
My november purchase spot has already been taken by Spyro Reignited Trilogy on Xbox, I'm afraid. And let me tell you, the Dragon has barely aged a day. (Flight levels notwithstanding, as those has been kind of mishandled - not enough to be a deal breaker, thankfully.) That game is basically begging for an 8-or-higher/10 review on NintendoLife, and I hope any official announcement on the matter - whether as a confirmation to celebrate or as a "... is skipping Nintendo Switch" article for me to deal with it once and for all - will come as soon as possible. That, and the loading times. The Switch version of the N. Sane Trilogy did wonders on that front.
Nintendo-wise, however, I'm going to tinker with Super Mario Maker on 3DS a little bit to get some levels ready for a friend of mine before Christmas comes. As for the Switch, I'm slowly emptying my eShop Wishlist as soon as the titles I'm interested in get a discount. Here's hoping next week, just in time for black friday, we'll witness a slashapalooza, price-wise.
Let's go Pikachu and Mario Party with my boys (I literally mean my children, not my posse, crew or gang).
Playing let's go eevee. I am really enjoying this game. Also playing snk 40th Ann. as well.
I have a fairly chill weekend ahead of me but won't be doing much gaming; I have a couple of projects to attend to. My Saturday morning gaming time was also eaten up by watching Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald at my local movie house.
The gaming time that I do get in will likely be spent playing more of Golden Sun: The Lost Age on the Wii U VC. I'll likely try out a little more of the WarioWare Gold demo on the 3DS; it's quite charming, but the demo will suffice until I pick up the full game when it's on discount.
Roughly 4 hours of Diablo 3, an hour of Zelda BotW(might become two or three depending on how it goes ) and one or two hours of VOEZ for me
I’m playing Dark Souls Remastered and is loving it lol. I’ve died so many many times, but can’t put the game down!!!
Played some Nintendo Land with my kids, started playing Pinball FX2, and played the first level of Nights Journey of Dreams (mostly to check that the disc worked). Probably will work on getting last stars to beat the main quest of Super Mario Galaxy 2 tonight or tomorrow.
Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu for me! Gonna play some Splatoon 2 for the Splatfest too
Pretty pumped, just bought metroid samus returns. It was on sale at game stop for $30 but but since they didn't have a sku for the new game i got it at pre owned price, and a special edition at that. $27! What a steal
Lg pikachu, and kirby star allies for me
Diablo for me!
Binding of Issac as usual and Phantom Breaker overdrive, on Pc path of exile.
Finally unglued myself from yet another MGS Peace Walker playthrough and now Digimon Cyber Sleuth: Hacker's Memory is eating up all my time.
Cya
Raziel-chan
Caved in Pikachu and I am having a nostalgia blast. Also had my ass kick by Misty and had to grind for an hour (mainly because I avoided catching Pokémon over and over again and was trying to level up by trainer battles only)
I decided to jump back into The Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask 3D for this weekends gaming session. Didn't realize how many of the side quest masks I didn't have.
Having a blast in the Splatfest.
I'm hoping to find time to play Xenoblade Chronicles 2
After playing a bunch of really hard games I’m finding Let’s Go Eevee very relaxing and a nice change of pace.Surprised I caught a Pikachu 10 minutes in.
Also played a bit of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Spyro Trilogy.
Despite what I said before, I caved and bought Let’s Go Pikachu and I have to say, I’m really surprised how much I enjoy it. The Pokeball Plus is quite charming to use and the game is beautiful in person. Still craving the more broad experience of the main line games but this should tide me over until then, along with Sun version.
Splatoon 2, SNK 40th (this is how you do a comp, love that it includes Arcade and Home ports), Runner 3 (because 9 something is an incredible deal). Happy gaming
Downloaded Overwatch, on offer for $30 on me PS4. I am really, really bad at it. 😅
Skyrim and Super Mario Party.
@Kidfunkadelic83 Well, this reply is much too late, then. I like it but in retrospect it wasn't worth full price. I guess your decision has been made by now anyway.
Yes it was a tad late. I did get it but havnt had chance to play it yet. I wouldn't have paid full £70 for it but thought I'd grab it at early half price.
Going off list (again!) with Full Metal Furies. Charming, addicting and fun as hell.
Playing my first every pokemon console game. Pokemon Let's go. Two hours in, and feeling that the game been solely aim at people age less then 10.
I expect it will get harder and more interesting. I give it a few more hours. But if it stay like this, this will definitely by my last pokemon console game.
Just beat Let's Go Pikachu, now what?
@backlogrob
If you haven’t already I can’t recommend enough playing every Pokemon game, reading A Song of Ice and Fire series, watch every episode of Power Rangers and every Star Wars film. Also comics, lots of comics.
@Fandabidozi I think I've done everything on your list except whatever Song of Ice and Fire is, lol
I didn't have much time to play since I worked 1-10 Friday and Saturday then 8:30-5:30 on Sunday. However, I did play some Pokemon: Let's Go, Eevee!
@backlogrob
Ha, great minds and all that. 😊
A Game of Thrones is the first book. It’s like the best thing ever. Definitely read it if you can (and you’re over 16).
