Bethesda Softworks has announced that Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus will launch on Nintendo Switch on 29th June.
As BJ Blazkowicz, players will experience an action-packed story brought to life by extraordinary characters, reuniting with your friends and fellow freedom fighters as you take on the evil Frau Engel and her Nazi army. The trailer above gives us our first official glimpse of Wolfenstein II running on Switch, so make sure to check it out.
As Texas-based studio Panic Button are handling the port, just like they did with id Software's DOOM, many have come to expect a similar standard of performance for this game on Switch, too. All we know is that things are looking pretty promising if this trailer is anything to go by, and we were generally impressed when we went hands-on with the game at PAX East this month.

Will you be grabbing this one when it launches at the end of June? Feel free to share your excitement in the comments below.

Makes up for Dark Souls for me. Glad we finally got a date!
I am looking forward to this one. DOOM proved these current gen games can be ported really well and be a fun time on the Switch.
YES!!
Day one buy indeed.
I'm interested when it becomes cheaper. Not paying full price for it. Perhaps something for the christmas list
Day 1 buy, these next few month are going to be very expensive as a switch owner. Far too much coming out that I want. I am hopefull that they needed download is just the multiplayer component as it was with Doom.
DLC included?
Already played it (good game and DLC is good also) and Ys8 on Switch is on the 26th. But nice to see 2 good games hit the Switch on the month. Looks like Jun is the end to the awful few months release schedule.
Little guy can get some more use after almost half a year on "little cousin visit" duty.
Day one. Haven't bought many games since Odyssey. Glad to see the next few months will be ending the dry spell in terms of big game releases.
Looks incredible!
Getting this for sure. Held off on buying it for my PS4.
I have this one for my amusement, day one.
Yassssss
4/24 - South Park
5/4 - Donkey Kong (never played on WiiU)
5/18 - Little Nightmares
5/?? - West of Loathing
6/22 - Mario Tennis
6/29 - Wolfenstein
6/29 - Inside
Q2 - Lumines remaster (second only to Tetris)
Q2 - Bloodstained - a little Castlevania back on Nintendo
Q2 - Firewatch - got it free on PS4 and liked it but never had time for it. Perfect game for a road trip. Oxenfree and night in the Woods were enhanced by playing during bus/car/plane trips. I assume the same for this one.
Who says there is a lull? That's actually a solid lineup. Probably too much game to play and too little time with which to finish it.
A certain day one. I just hope the extra download needed for the physical version isn't too large.
Taking into consideration that the Switch is technically a handheld, it's amazing to see the graphical jump from the 3DS to this.
Well done to Panic Button for porting and optimising big AAA games like these for the Switch.
Looks like summer will be spent with this & Mario Tennis Aces
Now just to wait for the Tomb Raider reboot series &/or Kingdom Hearts collection to be ported. Surely it can be done!
Please Square Enix, hand them over to Panic Button! They've done a great job for Bethesda.
YES! Been waiting feverishly for this!
@Dante52uk There is no multiplayer in this so I'm not sure what the extra download is for specifically.
Now that I watch the video and look through the article more, where does it say there will be an extra download?
Played and beat Doom when it launched. Excellent port. A little janky on framerate at first. Came back to beat it a second time two weeks ago post-patch and it runs butter-smooth and much closer to a locked 30. I adore that game. Looking forward to Panic Button applying what they learned from Doom to this.
Now this comes as a surprise!
Man, this looks sooooo good! I loved Doom, and this looks even better! Between South Park, DKC: Tropical Freeze, Wolfenstein II, Dark Souls, and Octopath----I'm going to be so broke this summer, but at least I'll have a nice physical/digital collection! Ha!
Already got it. will get it again. along with Sushi Striker and Mario Tennis in April.
I already have 6 things on pre-order, and my back log is already massive. I will get this but maybe after i've gone through (at least some of my) backlog
Did not expect it so soon. Very excited. Day one here as well.
@PhilKenSebben I had actually been guessing when it might release, and I had it pegged for June. Lucky guess!
Yes, day one purchase for me!
Held my purchase for the PS4 just take it on the go!
This is sooner than I thought, great news. Honestly that's not too far away.
Only 2 months away!
What a time to be alive!
Yeah, I may bite.
WOOOOOO. So Stoked, Loved Doom so I can't wait for this one.
Day one!!! We have to support Bethesda! They are a real 3rd party mitacle for the Switch!!!
@Zuljaras
They do seem pretty happy with the results so far, so I'm sure they'll continue to support it. Can't wait to hear what's next.
Day one
I’ll grab this on release day. Different than anything currently in my Switch library.
Congratulatory handshakes and good feeling all around.
@MoonKnight7 they have one of the best game libraries that is perfect match for the Switch:
Fallout
Dishonored
Elder Scrolls
Rage
Quake
Prey
Wolfenstein
"...as you take on Hitler daughter Angela Merkel and her Nazi army."
Very excited about this one. I played the Wolfenstein from around 2009 or so and really liked it. I was a big fan of Doom on the Switch, but I will also really enjoy the story elements added to Wolfenstein. Day one!
Nice, wasn't expecting it so soon.
the only possible way I would consider buying for anything close to full price is if the DLC is included. But I don't see any indication of that?
I mean, that's how to do a trailer!
My wallet is not ready
Day one for me. Although I can’t shake the feeli;g it’s basically doom reskinned.
Doom is awesome! I love playing it on my lunch break, while sitting outside, playing online deathmatch. Same for rocket league. Wolfenstein 2 is a day 1 purchase.
Up now on the eshop, 13.7 G required
Day one physical
Oh boy, will it be the same, Switch-exclusive "vaseline smeared all over the camera lens" edition as Doom?
Cya
Raziel-chan
Day 1 without a doubt
I get it simply because the German version is censored and the PC version has as stupid geolock even though it is perfectly legal to buy the game abroad and import it yourself.
As the Switch is the only current console that I own, this is the only legal option to play the game uncensored.
Crossing my fingers they made it run at least a little better than doom if so then I will be sold!
Might pick it up if it goes down in price. If not I will stick the games I usually buy.
@Perryg92 My thoughts exactly. I wish the new Tomb Raider series would get ported. Perhaps e3 will surprise us!
June! Nooice! But not for me. I'll keep playing with my cardboard.
Wolfenstein 2. Portable. Motion controls for those that want them. Bargain.
I would love to own wolf and doom but it's too much moneys my mate got doom for like £6 and wolf 2 for £14 I think... I'd have to pay quadruple that amount for a lesser version lol ... Both should have demos and should be no more than £19.99 on release
LITERALLY just bought a PS4 Pro and Wolfenstein II ($25) last night. So weird this news comes out today.
Doom has annoyingly held its price well. If I could get these games new for £30 I would.
I am still absolutely loving DOOM on Switch, this looks amazing.
@Dante52uk Wolfenstein 2 doesn't have Multiplayer Single player mode only.
Might not feel quite as good as Doom on the Switch, but still an instabuy for me.
Don't delay it, don't delay it, don't delay it, don't delay it!
Sooo... doesn't it have gyro aiming or not?
Mother smiles upon us once again.
What's important here, is motion controls day one.
Gal Gun 2 offered motion controls day one. Immortal Redneck, motion controls day one. Crazy Justice battle royale is doing motion controls.
That's the untold story here. We've finally made it. We've finally reached a point where gamers realize it's exponentially more fun and way more accurate, and developers realize people actually want it
We should be celebrating that. I'm playing Gal Gun 2, an on rails shooter with gyro, and goodness, I haven't experienced something like this since the days of Sin & Punishment 2... it's a new era Nintendo fans. Buckle up.
Nintendo Switch: Shooting tennis balls one week, shooting Nazis the next.
Already played it on PS4 and it was one of my favorite games of 2017.
Wolfenstein 2 file size 13.7 GB
https://nintendoeverything.com/wolfenstein-ii-switch-file-size/
YES! Day one, cant wait. Its nice to have a relase date. This looks amazing.
@HAL9000 : That can't be right seeing as Bethesda appears to have cheaped out and are imposing a mandatory download (of which the size is yet to be confirmed).
If they persist with this practice, I'm going to skip it. I might cave in at a heavy discount, but at this rate, I think I'd rather get the PC version instead. My 200GB card is already fast filling up and I don't need the miserliness of major publishers adding to that.
Once they finish that up, maybe we can get a Fallout title on Switch next.
@Zuljaras I agree. Bethesda has a great library for the Switch and I hope more of it makes the cut.
I'm still holding out hope for a good racing sim on Switch. Maybe F1 2018 or something.
I enjoy Wolfenstein. I will purchase at full price and not regret it one bit. I have enjoyed most of their games and I don't mind paying for entertainment.
@Giygas_95 the box art on Amazon shows a data download notice. But on the eshop page it says the game is 13.7 gigs so I don't understand why an additional download would be necessary unless they went cheap on the carts
@felony211662 As annoying as it is, I still wouldn't be surprised.
@felony211662 I think Bethesda is pulling a Capcom on there Switch Releases.
@mowerdude Ok ... this changes things.
If that message is for the DLC or something I am ok with it. But I want a playable single player game OFF the damn cart!
This is not like the other consoles with 4-5 discs where you can INSTALL the damn game on the hard drive. The Switch do not have such option.
The cart should be playable end of story.
If Wolfenstein II is not playable off the cart then my beloved Bethesda will not get my money.
@Zuljaras Yeah it would be fine if it's just DLC and still have the full game on cart. But what isn't really helping it right now is I can pick up the PS4 or Xbox one retail copy's for only $29.99 Brand New in the US, plus also with the bestbuy gamer club rewards it will only cost me $23.99. So I might just do that instead of waiting for the Switch copy to release for full price of $59.99 even with the gamer club rewards it is still $47.99 + tax on the Switch.
@mowerdude yes you can but the idea of the cart is to have the game playable without internet or some account.
Apparently the physical media of xbox and ps is cheap and that is why they can lower the price.
I do not need a glorified micro sd cart with some sticker on it. If they cant do something right then dont do it at all. Release only digital and that is that.
The games in my collection are not only for the shelf I can pick them up and play them.
As I read on other sites the case for Wolfenstein 2 DL is not a dlc but LA Noire all over again.
I will wai and see but this is a hard pass on such pathetic attempt to get the collectors attention.
@Zuljaras Yeah I am a retail/physical game purchaser I don't like purchasing digital download games all that much but I would rather download it from the eshop instead of getting a cart that will not even be playable until you download the other half of the game from the internet. If game publishers can't put the full game on cart what's even the point in releasing a retail copy at all just seem like a waste of time to me.
@mowerdude Waste of time and money. The stupid thing is that the physical copy of the game is still at full price even if it is not working.
People are buying physical DRM key and they are happy about it ...
Such practices needs to be boycotted.
TBH I'd rather spend 70 bucks on having the full game on the cartridge than 60 for half of it on cart and half as "DLC". Might just buy it digitally on sale at some point if I want to try it.
@Blizzia The issue is that many claim that they will not give more than 60$ for a retail game even if that is only 10$ on top.
I would gladly pay some extra to have a complete edition on the whole damn cart!
Awesome! I’m definitely getting this game. The only question is if I import from the US or buy the Japanese version. The censorship really bothers me, but if I import the US version I’ll be lock out from buying the DLC since I don’t have a US account (and I’m not creating one either)
Cant wait for this!
I noticed the eshop says it's only a 13gb download.
Curious how that compares to the retail version...how small is that cartridge that they have to force a download?
blame N for the stupid cart thing.
they should be giving devs the carts but they're too greedy and short-sighted for that.
honestly, just stop buying N stuff. that will eventually force them 3rd party and we can play the zelda/mario games on the wonder twin systems. though i do wonder what dumb s%^& they would do even 3rd party. that company has no compass.
@sword_9mm
Well I will NOT buy the games with the big ugly warning on the front of the box stating that I need internet download. But I will buy games that deserve it like Skyrim, Zelda. For example the upcoming Dark Souls. Last I checked it is ALL on the cartridge. SO they get my money.
However I fear that this will continue to happen on other games that I want. And I will NOT get them because they do not deserve the money they deserve the big ugly sticker on their cover art. The sticker of shame.
@invictus4000 Hopefully so!
If Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider were both running on Xbox 360, I am sure they can run on Switch.
So much hype already for Nintendo's E3!
@Zuljaras Best part is they don't realize it's ultimately just gonna cost more in SD card storage, and sometime in the distant future when they shut down the servers (FAR future, but still), you're not going to be able to play the game again if you somehow delete the data or lose your Switch and buy another.
Might sound a bit pessimistic, but eh, sd cards get expensive pretty fast, and we already have Switch tax.
@Blizzia Also the collectors would not want a official box with the sticker of shame.
Bethesda will lose money more than if they opt in for the 16GB cartridge which they DID with their other games.
Damn this is disgusting!
