Around the time of this year's Game Developers Conference, Rollercoaster Tycoon was revealed for the Nintendo Switch. It's a new version of the game developed by Nvizzio Creations and published by Atari / Bigben.
With the game slated for a September release, a timely rating has now surfaced on the Australian Classification Board. The special Switch version will include touch-screen controls, an intuitive management system and will also feature scenario, sandbox and adventure modes. With the classification process now complete, keep an eye out for the exact release date.

I have very little faith in this.
No queues, no buy.
sigh I miss Theme Park. It had its flaws, but boy was it fun.
And why hasn't Theme Hospital been ported to a mobile platform yet?
Lost me at Bigben. Remember that's the publisher that put out a 20% finished Tennis World Tour and said they'll patch it next year, while adding that their priority was to get the game out for the tennis season regardless of its state and since most retailers have no right of return they couldn't care, they've made their money. This is also the publisher handling V-Rally which I'm pretty sure won't be much better. Yes that's being developed by ex V-Rally devs but the tennis game was developed by ex Top Spin devs.
I won't be going near any of their games, regardless of quality for their disgraceful attitude. Looking at their past history I don't think they've actually put out a good game yet anyway so I won't be missing much.
If Rollercoaster Tycoon World is anything to go by, then no buy when Atari is involved!
I am a hardcore Rollercoaster Tycoon fan, but when a free Themepark Tycoon 2 in Roblox is way better than a so called AAA game from Atari aka Rollercoaster Tycoon World, then something is seriously off. Their latest Rollercoaster Tycoon offerings on the mobile platform are money grabbing garbage as well.
This Switch game is just a straight port from the Touch Mobile game version, which is terrible. No thanks!
It's just hilarious that a free Roblox game just does so much better and even includes an On-Ride experience for all rides.
Meanwhile, Planet Coaster is eating Atari for lunch! Frontier Development are the ones behind the best ever Rollercoaster Tycoon 3! It's a fantastic game, but sadly only on PC.
Now if Planet Coaster would somehow managed to be ported to the Switch...… but that is only for the dreams. :-/
It better have queues or else. I am excited for this and I'm assuming the it's out next month!
As for the commenter that said this is a straight port from the mobile version. It's much more. Rode cams, in depth management etc...
@HipsterInkling I rather have a port of a good old game than a bad remake of one.
Hey this game is real so does that mean the Atari VCS will be real too?
The comments are scaring me away from this. I had a friend in High School who played the old DOS version via an emulator a ton. So a new one interests me... but these comments sound like it's gonna be real bad.
@JSG87 It won't have queues. It's a straight port from the Mobile Touch game. All they do is remove the Cash shop.
Just download the free Touch game and try it out. That's how the Switch game will be.
Nvizzio Creations are the ones behind the trainwreck of Roller Coaster Tycoon World as well.
No thanks.
Atari has lost it! Long ago! Frontier are the ones that made the best Roller coaster Tycoon games and they no longer work with Atari.
Play their Planet Coaster! It's amazing. The On-ride camera system is incredible!
The first RCT made by Chris Sawyer is the best. Just like Will Wright and his Sim City, it all went downhill when corporate business dictates the development.
@Heavyarms55 If you want to play RCT, buy 1 or 2 on GOG or Steam. They're very cheap these days
Or get 3 if you really want to. For a modern "RCT"-like experience, there's Planet Coaster. But please stay away from the rubbish cash grabs like these. It looks like an RCT game superficially, but the difference is night and day.
@Octane Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 has been removed from Steam. It crashes on Windows 10 and support has ceased, so Steam was forced to remove it.
Planet Coaster is the only modern Roller Coaster Tycoon game available now.
And if you are into Roblox and have the PC client, I highly recommend people to try out Theme Park Tycoon 2. It's amazing what one single person has achieved with that game and in Roblox nonetheless. It's pretty amazing and fun!

@Jeronan The only good thing about RCT3 were the 3D graphics. It looks quite dated today, and it never had that "RCT feel" the original games had. So I don't think you're missing out by not playing that game. Planet Coaster is arguably better, and RCT1 & 2 still exist to provide that classic experience (still the way to go IMO!).
Was really looking forward to this, Bigben eh?
Back on the fence....
@Octane The ride cam was fantastic though on RCT3.
I played RCT 1 and 2 to death. They look way too dated now. Though compared to RCT for Switch (which is just mobile crap port), they are miles better yes.
Planet Coaster is just amazing. For some strange reason I completely overlooked that game and just started playing it before the Summer. It really blew me away. Now that is how you do a proper modern RCT game!
Proper simulation, queues including friggin' fast lanes! ^^, incredible terrain editing and building customization on a whole new level of past games.
If you see what people have created on the Steam Workshop. It's insane! People have been able to faithfull re-create real world rides!
RCT for Switch will be a complete laughing stock compared to this one.
Even the Roblox game and it's terrain manipulation, On-Ride cam features, etc is miles better than Atari's insult of an attempt!
@Jeronan Yeah, the ride cam was a neat novelty, but I was never a fan of the cartoony look! The peeps moved very slow too! I don't think RCT1 looks any more dated than a good SNES game. It has a very simple artstyle, which helps it quite a lot.
Another Bigben game, so shovelware alert for the unaware. I would temper expectations and wait for reviews on this one.
So wait, is this thing a port of the mobile free-2-play game Roller Coaster Tycoon Touch? Visually it looks just like that game. Is this premium?
Atari was once a decent company. Now its just run by fat smelly old men, who put profits before actual development. Just so they can live in their horrible oversized mansions.
atari and bigben scummy partnership made in heaven
@taeles Yes pretty much! It's a straight port from RCT Touch on iOS/Android.
All they do is upscale it a bit and remove the horrid cash shop (that's most of the work what takes time), but then most certainly will ask a full retail price on this release and hope the unaware fall for it.
It will not be the RCT game people are hoping for, as Frontier and Atari parted ways long ago and Frontier now has it's own RCT game called Planet Coaster, which is far superior to any Atari offering.
Like I said in an earlier post. Even the free game Theme Park Tycoon 2 in Roblox is superior to RCT Touch in every way. It's a fantastic little gem and really shows what can be achieved in Roblox when you put some effort in it.
I'd much rather have a port of Roller Coaster Tycoon Classic. It's a Mobile port done right, as it's basically a combination of Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 and 2. I would buy it again for Switch!
Yeah, a RCT Classic port would've been way better.
The Switch will just end up starved for good theme park tycoon games, I'm afraid. Planet Coaster is way too graphically heavy - even for many PCs! Much better for Frontier to focus their efforts on more content for now.
And Parkitect, which is probably my favorite, was running right against the limits of Unity on PC. The developers have been optimizing, but there's only one main programmer, and only so much he can do. Even though he likes the idea of a Switch port, right now it's not feasible.
I'm not sure how fun it would be to control an RCT game without a mouse to control the placement of items. The touch screen in handheld could work but the screen seems a little too small to give a good overview. Still as this is modern Zomtari RCT I'll not be rushing out to get it unless they somehow manage to actually pull out a decent product.
I'll still keep half an eye on this, but I'm not reassured by Bigben's involvement. I still have the original RCT on a computer disk; it surprisingly functions quite well (but not perfectly) in Windows 10.
This isn't Planet Coaster so who cares
Seriously guys, if you're looking for a theme park game, don't buy Atari's modern junk. Planet Coaster should fill the void just fine. Great game. Love to see some kind of console release of it. Cities Skylines and Surviving Mars on PS4 proved to me that these types of games CAN work on console.
SimCoaster/Theme Park was a good game too, though it wasn't AS good as RCT2 and it had that blue b**** in the bottom right corner popping up and yapping at you every 30 seconds.
As many have said this is most likely going to be a bad port of a bad game shame they chose touch instead of classic
@OorWullie BigBen don’t make the game they are just shipping it out in Europe
