How about trying to get rid of your white OLED Switch 1s, Nintendo?

Seems like a no brainer if they still have substantial Switch 1 stock to discount them. Parents are much more likely to drop around $300 vs $500 for Switch 2 for a console for their kids. And Nintendo continues to endear itself to the youth which goes a long way for lifetime sales and customer loyalty

From the Direct videos, I think they did a very impressive job remaining true to the original form and size of Hyrule Field, yet also made the world you are in seem much larger than it is.

I feel the pain of selling my GameCube when I was young and needed money. I think Switch 1 has overtaken it but it was always my favorite console. I’m just glad we have it on NSO now with a proper controller. One day when I’m more financially set I will throw whatever amount it takes to own a spice orange one.

Backtracking - I often enjoy it, too. But not in massive RPGs or boring wide-open massive open world games. Then it’s a bit tedious. But to me, a huge inherent characteristic of “Metroidvania” is backtracking. Find new ability, go back and get that item or open that door

Nintendo continuing to show they value their fans. They don’t have to do this, but they keep doing it at a pretty solid rate

For real though, it will be interesting to see if they hold your hand a bit more in the remake as to how to progress past the web. I’m guessing they give you a bigger clue at least, though it would be cooler if not. Gotta assume anyone new to the game can just look it up in a few seconds online nowadays

I’ve tried countless times to get into Ocarina of time. I pick it up every year or two for 30 years now. I have yet to figure out what to do or where to go in the Deku Tree. I refuse to look anything up in any game I play or take any hints. I won’t even read this article or any comments in this comment section after I post this. I think the big web in the tree might be a clue to something though from something I saw on a YouTube clip. Terrible game 0 out of 10 stars.

@rushiosan interesting take, and I can see it. I always think of early 2000s Apple IPod commercials really starting the minimalist revival/craze. Completely white or solid color backgrounds with one color on top. Apple always went for clean and uncluttered schemes. Then all-white kitchen craze and solid color interiors instead of wallpaper. Then a focus on natural and earthy tones, but simple and clean ala Panera restaurants. I’m a bit of a minimalist in many ways but I do think it has run its course in mainstream art and advertising, which should always be evolving.

And Switch 2 and Nintendo beyond will likely have to save console gaming and physical gaming media into the future all on their own. Nintendo is the best, may they prosper forever.

Keep wanting to finally play a Fire Emblem game. Feels like required reading for any Nintendo fan. Usually I like to start with an early or original game in such cases. My old 3DS has the ambassador games on it so I think I will start with Sacred Stones. Is that a decent entry game?

Video game industry should have lobbied harder to get the ugly and glaring age ratings to be put on the back of boxes instead of the front. I always think this when examining every box art for these box art battles. Frank Zappa tried his hardest in this realm, love that guy.

I would not scalp-buy this. They are going to make plenty of them I bet. And they will release an oled + better battery in 2-3 years. Maybe a Mario red themed console when next Mario comes out in late 2028

The floaty fairy trails of green dots kind of bothered me. Like they somewhat seemed to follow/surround Link? I dunno maybe they have some meaning but probably just extra flare and it’s too much imo

The best part of Ravenous is they will likely quickly redeem the Metroid franchise after Prime 4. Although I’m not as big of a hater of MP4 as most. I found the desert uniquely memorable in a way. I always argue the desert carried the Metroid vibe of a mysteriously creepy solitude and isolation that Metroid is known for. In a new way. Glass half full, sure.

The amiibo looks nothing like Samus imo. Wouldn’t even know it was until I zoomed in a bit. I’m guessing it will be exclusive since they didn’t show it with the two amiibo they showed separately. I’m good with my Metroid Dread combo pack amiibo either way. Same blue suit for the most part

I never thought they were going to change up too much. Game is a bit too sacred and revered.

The good thing if it’s just an overhaul graphically and they don’t add or change it up too much, is that they are more likely to also do Majora’s Mask imo. Now that they will have the engine and style already built

@fenlix I hope they trim the roster way down and try to really change up the formula in general for the next Smash. Like MK8 vs World, people can always continue to play Ultimate if they want. Ultimate should be a bookend, time for some new ideas in Smash. Stop worrying about massive rosters.

Say what you will about the game, but the biking desert in Metroid Prime 4 had a vibe. IMO the desert not the “levels” captured the solitude of classic Metroid best. Don’t think it belongs on list of course, just a comment on the open-world aspect it introduced. It’s one of the few things I think of when I recall that game.

I think of Xenoblade Chronicles X as being open world for sure. It’s actually maybe my favorite on this list. I had more fun exploring it’s map than BoTW/Tears. Felt a lot more verticality, with the huge cliffs and especially how fast and far you could jump was so fun for that map. I do get the argument in a way, but it’s a pretty big or “open” world to run around freely from the start.

Having the coin simply titled “Pokemon” definitely fooled some people into thinking this was official. But meme coins aren’t something big companies do… yet. Any likely buyers would already be into cryptocurrencies and recognize quickly it was a hack

Violence, blood, gore, etc. have absolutely nothing to do with what makes a video GAME good. That’s something a middle schooler would care about. Nintendo has stuck with focusing on gameplay not flashy or cheap thrills. There is a depth and quality to Nintendo games not found in the dime a dozen games that frankly all look exactly the same on other consoles/PC. Glad Nintendo never cared about that and continue to do their own thing.

Still chipping away at Skyrim. Up to mid 40s level. Most of the missions/combat I found too hard a while back I can now achieve so I think I’m getting towards the end but have no idea. Just found the shout that slows down time for a few seconds and it’s a game-changer.
