As many of you are aware, practitioners of particularly effective datamining techniques have recently uncovered the existence of data that seems to indicate that Nintendo is gearing up for an HD remake of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Additionally, there seems to be similar data that suggests that there will be more downloadable Wii titles on the way at some point in the future. Excitingly enough, the information doesn't stop there, as an entire list of supposedly upcoming releases has just been posted.
Keep in mind that while all of this was actually pulled off of Nintendo's own servers, nothing is set in stone until we hear official confirmation straight from the horse's mouth. All the same, many of these – like New Super Mario Bros. Wii or The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass – do seem to be a matter of when, not if. Not one game listed for America, huh.
@maukenboost That's what I was wondering about, too. Nonetheless, the fact that these games are present on the EU eShop at least leaves the door open for them to bring them over to this side of the pond.
Why is the salt even on the table? This is undeniable.
So hyped about the possibility of Twilight Princess HD!! My favorite game of all time!! I know it is a rumor but even the thought of it is awesome
I really do wish they would continue the 3DS VC.
@MitchVogel That's true and I hope they do. Thanks for the response.
insert robot chicken mother 3 E3 scene
Why do some Japanese releases have the english title? Is that for our convenience?
Theres a bit in one of the ds zelda games (think it's in hourglass) where you have to close the ds so that something imprints on the other screen. Will be interesting to see how they get around that on the wii u if this list has some truth in it.
Would love those Starfy games...
@MitchVogel Uh...as far as first and second party games are concerned, they will launch in NA at some point "at least the ones that released in our region".
To think otherwise is really bizarre. No salt required, it's just a matter of time.
@Bass_X0 They want to make sure the rest of us know what we're missing.
@MitchVogel All the same, many of these – like New Super Mario Bros. Wii or The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass – do seem to be a matter of "if, not when." Here's the list, grouped according to region and platform:
Uh...don't you mean when, not if?
As long as Twilight Princess is based upon the gamecube version I'm in, any hint of a wii remote and forget it. Seriously though it's an awesome game
No Wave Race 64
Japan Wii U would be quite hardcore by having three ways to play Ace Attorney games.
I mean why would you buy the GBA version when the DS one is superior in every way?
I'm sure people would only care if they put Apollo or the Edgeworth games.
It's nice to see Sonic Advance trilogy there. If anything I'm a bit sad that there's no trace of Hotel Dusk or Trace Memory, these two game make use of closing the DS to solve at least one puzzle. Even if they add a workaround, presenting it to the player would be so weird. Opening the VC Menu could trigger it + a warning screen to make the player aware of it. Can't imagine Nintendo going to such lengths though.
Oh, the Nintendo Update Server datamine is done for right now. Obviously, it can be datamined in the future to check for more titles, as Nintendo can add them at anytime.
Is NSMB Wii really needed when Super Mario Maker exists? It just feels pointless.
nothing for NA. great!
@Neko_Rukiafan Ha! Good catch!
Quite a few of those VC titles I'd buy. I don't normally buy the Wii releases as I have them all on disc but Super Sluggers never came out in Europe so that and Trauma Team would be like brand new games for me.
@placidcasual It's in Hourglass, I remember almost every moment from that game. Maybe they'll just use the HOME menu as a substitute?
@Grumblevolcano NMB1, Wii, 2, U and New Super Luigi Bros. are still each unique in their own way, and there are some things Super Mario Maker doesn't offer, like vs. minigames, co-op, Coin Rush, or Challenge Mode.
@Grumblevolcano The purpose of Super Mario Maker was to reinvigorate the past games, not ruin them. Well it is great that we can make our own levels, most of the levels in the originals are still unforgettable.
Are you saying they should remove Super Mario Bros. 1, 2, 3 and Super Mario World from Virtual Console then, since we all have Super Mario Maker?
Moero (not Moeri) Twinbee was released in the US under the name of "Stinger".
@allav866
@Grumblevolcano
more importantly in my opinion, local multiplayer ...
@Grumblevolcano The levels in Super Mario Maker are quite bare bones in terms of assets, compared to the NSMB games. Even with the tools available in Super Mario Maker, you cannot perfectly recreate any level from NSMBWii.
Wish they would make a new 1080 and wave race
Disappointing list of N64 games
Nintendo really love their home!
God, I just wanna know what the story is with TPHD, is it real or not.
Direct is badly needed! Been a long time now.
Is it just me or are most of those only listed for Japan? Can't see anything in this story that links them all to Europe.
Sigh, all the worthwhile ones are Japan only, as usual. Unless the eShop for NX becomes the same for every country or at least more fair, I won't bother buying one.
Why are none of the Japanese releases under their Japanese names? Bayou Billy should be called "Mad City".
Hiiiighly suspect.
@Octane We know that updates are coming to Super Mario Maker though. By the end of its lifespan you'd probably be able to recreate virtually any level from SMB, SMB2 JP, SMB3, SMW, NSMBWii and NSMBU. So it feels like a waste of a release where instead they could release a game like Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn which the Wii U has no TRPGs outside of a few VC games. Even considering RPGs in general, XCX is the first one for Wii U.
Twilight Princess HD would make me so happy, I love that game. I've been dreaming of an HD remake for a while now, maybe it could actually happen.
An ok selection. Still no Mario Party 2
Super Mario All Stars, about time!
No Brawl? Ouch.
I've been waiting for a digital release for Brawl for a while now, considering I could give my physical Super Smash Bros. Brawl copy to a friend of mine then.
The inclusion of the Ace Attorney games makes me question the validity of this list. In addition to what AlienX said, I can't see them taking focus away from the Ace Attorney Trilogy compilation.
C'mon Legendary Starfy for EU! Sonic Advance 1-3 and the GBA Shining games might also be nice.
@Grumblevolcano
Makes perfect sense to keep releasing 2D Mario games. I want levels designed by Nintendo, not just random Yahoo's on the internet.
I can't believe they haven't got Fire Emblem on there though. Two 3DS games but not an easy Wii re-rrlease. Bizarre again, Nintendo.
Kamen Rider for the EU? That sounds very unlikely, especially as that's a Skylanders style game.
Hopefully they come to the US. Looking forward to replaying Adventures Of Bayou Billy and Hogan's Alley, since my original nintendo nes died over 8 years ago. If they end up eventually adding the Goonies 2 and Ducktales 2 and even Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers, I'll be even more happy! Please, have these also come to the US.
Remind me why DS games aren't available on 3DS/N3DS again?!!
I'd love to have digital versions of Chrono Trigger, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and The World Ends With You on my 3DS. Heck, even the physical cart versions are getting real tough to find.
I love you to bits Nintendo, honest I do, but isn't my money good enough for you?
@Grumblevolcano It is not nice to ignore people.
At any rate, you are still in the wrong. Do you hear yourself talking? "We know that updates are coming to Super Mario Maker though" yeah, but Nintendo would not add MULTIPLAYER to it within these updates, so it still makes sense to re-release that entry. I am pretty certain that their aim is for the single-player department due to that feeling the most retro as this was not really an existing feature until the Wii iteration of the popular reboot, New Super Mario Bros.
Honestly, most of my friends actually hated the co-op in the Wii iteration and we never actually played it that often at all; the last time was probably half a decade ago. Actually pretty sad, but what can you do?
We all grew up from Mario games and have moved on with our lives; only coming back to the ones we did grow up with, that Super Mario Maker conveniently provides through its various graphical options.
So, in my opinion, they are not losing a whole lot with it being exclusively single-player and they are CERTAINLY not doing anything wrong by re-releasing the old ones again onto the Virtual Console. The Nintendo-made levels are still phenomenally fun whenever I play them.
As I said before, not that you read it given how obvious it was that you scoffed me off, you are basically saying that they should go ahead and remove all the originals due to them "mimicking" Super Mario Maker.
I'm very disappointed by the VC games, hardly any truly appeal. I'd rather they put out more N64 instead of all the GBA and DS games.
Why would Nintendo add so much info into their Eshop servers when they know already data-miners may find it?It's not exactly the first time it's happened.Obviously it needs to be added in advance but you'd think they'd leave it until closer to release.Any chance of a surprise VC release in the coming weeks and months is out the window now.
Surprise, surprise! The Wii title Secret Files: Tunguska is suddenly scheduled for an eShop release in Europe TODAY. While it cannot yet be downloaded by the time I write this, it's listed in the eShop already. I think that's the first third party release of a Wii game on the eShop. Makes one hope for more, especially as publisher Deep Silver was a fairly strong supporter of the Wii, including high quality mature games.
On the other hand, Konamy Krazy Racers is yet missing. Perhaps it'll appear later or Nintendo made some last minute release changes.
Why spend money on producing Nintendo Directs when you can have leaks like this happen for free?
I was more surprised by the sheer number of titles more than anything. Granted, several will never make it out of Japan, but the list is much longer than I thought.
All I know is that I would love to replay Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword with no motion controls. Dont have anything against motion controls, I thought they were fine in both games, but I would love to replay them with just traditional buttons on WiiU. An HD upgrade for both would be a dream come true.
Probably legit. Just add NA to the mix and it seems true.
@Sabrewing They are up with their Japanese names, looks like they've been translated for this article so that people know what they are... because what is Mad City? Hell if I know...
@AlexSora89 I imagine a digital version of Brawl would be difficult, because of Snake. I can see Konami making things frustrating.
@BertoFlyingFox Skyward Sword without motion controls is likely impossible. The game was built from the ground up to use the Wiimote.
@Firlow yeah that'd work. Hourglass is a great game but i prefer spirit tracks- think im in the minority on that one though
@Notshane Sorry, didn't notice your comment. My answer is no because it's already available and has been long on Wii U VC before Super Mario Maker was even announced. Nintendo should be trying to make the Wii U's library more varied with these VC releases, not multiple clones. By the way NSMBWii isn't the only game I have an issue with on the list, Super Mario All Stars is another.
@Nintendo_Ninja without NA it makes it more due to it takes a year to get them over here
@AlienX There's one major puzzle in Zelda: Phantom Hourglass that required the DS to be closed as well, so it must be possible.
As much as I loved playing Bayou Billy back in the day (I'm old) I don't think I could get into it now. All those old games that use to be fun aren't quite the same anymore after 30 years of evolution. Fingers crossed for that Twilight Princess HD though. Day one and a good reason to play it all over again. As much as I would love to see it in 3d on my 3ds an HD port makes way more sense since it would look virtually identical on the 3ds to its Wii counterpart.
Oh and the ds Zelda games never happened......ok they weren't that bad but as Zelda games they rank one and 2 as last on my list for favorite Zelda games behind all others but only the Nintendo system ones and not the unmentionables.
Not gonna lie, there are quite a few games on that list that I'd buy.
@IceClimbers I had a sense of you and Deja vu when I saw that list.
No Super Mario Sunshine? Isn't that the one game everybody seems to always ask for? And Luigi Mansion, with gyro control? And no NA?
So when's the next announcement about an upcoming announcement about an upcoming bit of actual game information? This nonsense is getting so old. Like Chinese water torture of non news.
@kage_88 I know but these guys arent really strangers to grabbing an old release and re-building it.
I know this is under "rumor" status, but a lot of these make complete sense. I believe a couple of these are out already in other regions (I think EU has Shadow Dragon?), which lends the list some credibility.
You know we're overdue for a Direct when hype levels are this crazy!
Why not the GameBoy Advance version of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team?
...But no Super Mario Sunshine.
Sonic Advance 2 & 3 are most likely real, the first one is alredy on Japan's VC.
I hope the trilogy come to America's and Europe's VC,
And yet, still no MOTHER 3...
I mean don't get me wrong, I'm happy when any VC games come out but I freaking LOVE that game.
To people wondering what the salt part of the article was about. I'd say it's silently referring to how often American Nintendo fans get trolled by the company they support.
We all know it isn't referring to the "Take it with a grain of salt" for data mining because, well. Remind me the current score of datamining being true to false?
Blehhhh not Twilight Princess its so BORING AND DULL. Make Super Mario Sunshine HD instead.
That's...a long list.
I just got my hands on Sunshine last week. Playing it on my Wii with Smash controller. I would love to invert the C-stick.
Not seeing any Secret of Mana, Mana 2 or Evermore on that list.
Or and N64 editions of Mystical Ninja.
Or Chrono Trigger
Or <enter more game names here>
Worst list ever...
No Secret of Mana....
Sucks not to see games for America but that leaves the element of surprise intact which is cool.
I really wish they'd release Excitebike 64 already. I need to make insanely large hills and hear them scream "Jumpin' Jim Rivers with the whole shot!"
For now I'll carry on dreaming for Twilight Princess HD. As we have the Gamecube adaptor on Wii U it would make sense to let players have the option of using it too,
@Grumblevolcano They're definitely going to need to try harder for the next one. If its reused BGs and music and similar power ups, people will just remake the levels on Maker.
Mario Allstars is an interested one, are we sure Nintendo's not going to count it as a Wii download and make us pay £18 for it........again?
That's it?? Sure, The Adventures of Bayou Billy is great but I surely hope there are more games than just what's on this list. Sort of wish I hadn't seen it now.......
I wish the first Chibi-Robo would come to the eshop.
I couldn't care less about anything else on this list because the greatest Zelda game of all time is getting an HD re-release and my life is now complete.
Also, TP getting an HD re-release on Wii U is pretty much the final indicator that, at the very least, Zelda U is getting a dual release and at worst skipping Wii U entirely. No matter. TP will soon be in HD!
Really? They want to rerelease the Adventures of Bayou Billy? I have that game, and it's not great. It's a combo of a bad version of Double Dragon, a bad version of Rad Racer, and a bad version of Hogan's Alley. Trust me, if you want a good NES beat-em-up, get Double Dragon.
am I reading this right, is this leak saying that Kamen Rider Summon Ride is coming to the EU?
that makes me think this is fake. Kamen Rider is effectively power rangers and doesn't get releases over here and a friend of mine informs me that Summon ride is a "skylanders" style game. I'd be shocked that title would come west
Here's to hoping North America will get Zelda: Spirit Tracks.
What's stopping F-Zero Climax? That game is mostly in english.
Glad I held off on Twilight Princess. The GC version is expensive and the waggle controls scared me away from the Wii version.
NA doesn't get any love? Twilight Princess HD I'm more excited about,I would love to play it with gamepad controls
@invictus4000 Because I think Secret of Mana is already out on Wii U VC in Japan, the only region S-E has released any VC games this last generation (including the Final Fantasy NES trilogy and several Taito games on 3DS, as well as a 3DS version of FF1)
If they're not going to release the rest of the gba Mario games then Mario all stars works for me... Hopefully the US will get some of this stuff.
@invictus4000 if only! Simply the best snes rpg, controversial i know but the music, setting, levelling system and characters are just perfect
Would def buy day one Spirit tracks, been dying for a reason to replay it, I guess playing it on a 50inch tv is reason/novelty enough,
also, Twilight Princess HD?? YES!
You have to be joking. Maybe when the wii u is 75 years old they'll have released this many games.
Super Mario All Stars come soon to Europe (60Hz)!
Where is Wave Race...?
No listings for NA ... which makes this even more legit seeing how we been treated in the States .
I agree hcfwesker. I agree.
@placidcasual I would completely agree with the exceptions of Chrono Trigger and FF6. Mana just had this charm and was so much fun it will never get old. And yeah...the music is AMAZING.
Sad that NONE of these are for 3DS...how about some Virtual Boy VC titles please?!
Alright, back to my Playstation 3, nothing to see here. Maybe in a few years when they release one of these games in North America.
Would be good to see more VC releases.
FZero 64 and some releases on the 3ds would be nice.
I want sanic advance
I really want Star Fox 64 on the NA Wii U virtual console!
Too bad Star Fox SNES isn't on that list...
Very good list of games I would be happy for any or all too be released over the next or so from now.
None for America. Screw you, Reggie.
Well if this is true, there are a lot of games I'd buy from that list:
1080°, F-Zero Climax, Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Star Fox 64, Star Fox Command.
An HD remake of TP would also be great, although I'd prefer (or more precisely, I'd like both) Skyward Sword HD.
But what I don't understand: Why are so many people here complaining about "no games for America"? Where do you get this from? The article doesn't say anything about where those games will be released.
I mean, the [JP] behind every title only indicates which version will be emulated, not which market will get that game, right?
Don't know if anybody's suggested this already, but...Wild Gunman for October 21st, 2015 anyone?
no NA games? boo!!!
