Update #2 [Sun 21st Feb, 2021 14:30 GMT]: SNK has now locked in a release date for Cham Cham. This fighter will be arriving in Samurai Shodown on 16th March as part of Season Pass 3. See her in action in the trailer above.
In addition to this, it's also been revealed the fourth Season Pass 3 spot will go to a character from the Guilty Gear series. The launch date for this will be announced at a later date.
Update #1 [Fri 8th Jan, 2021 05:35 GMT]: After some delays, SNK has now revealed the first two fighters on the way to Samurai Shodown's Season Pass 3 are Cham Cham (arriving mid-March) and Hibiki Takane from The Last Blade 2.
In addition to this, it gave the world a first look at King of Fighters XV and confirmed it would be arriving this year. No platforms have been announced yet. King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match was also announced for PS4. Get the rundown in SNK's full broadcast video.
Original article [Thu 7th Jan, 2021 05:45 GMT]: SNK has pulled the plug on its big reveal of King of Fighters 15 and the Samurai Shodown Season Pass 3 at the last minute.
While the reason behind the decision is still unknown, what we do know is that SNK plans to reschedule a new time and date as soon as it can, and is appreciative of fans for understanding. Here's the official word from the company Twitter account:
While the KOFXV announcement might not necessarily include the Switch, the Samurai Shodown Season Pass 3 is something owners of the hybrid handheld can look forward to.
While we wait for a new time and date, why not check out our review of the latest entry in the Samurai Shodown series, if you don't already own the game. The classic KOF games are also available on the Switch eShop.

Odd. I wonder if they'll ever say why they moved the reveal date.
Honestly really looking forward to playing as Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in SamSho.
@Tourtus I guess because everybody is looking at other fighting related news right now, SNK might think that it would just be ignored.
@Yanina That’s very true actually. I didn’t think about that when I saw the original announcement. I dunno if it was postponed before or after Western civilisation collapsed though.
“The Future is Later“
LMFAO!! Well played!!
I'd love to see a new KOF game.
The last new entry I played was ages ago.
My favourite is still KOF 98. Great game!
@tourjeff kof Legacy ended with kof 2003...the lady good episode
@Retro_Player_77 two of the three examples you listed have 3D sprites...
Probably not able to show due to a bug which needs ironing out.
@Zanzox I don't know, what I feel is like after 99 things started to go a bit down hill.
The most striking thing for me is the soundtrack, up to 99 KOF always had amazing tracks.
Best ones in my opinion are from 95 and 96 (which I still listen!) then, from 2000s everything turned into generic: music tracks, backgrounds, graphics etc.
It didn't have the same care as previous entries if you know what I mean?
@tourjeff perfectly agree with you... orochi saga and 99 are the very best... but I like also from 2000 to 2003 even with toned down and generic musics, backgrounds and new characters... (often ugly... not generic)
@Zanzox Kof XIV is my favourite to actually play. The new one just needs better stages, more colour and rollback online multiplayer.
So weird they cancelled the event so last second.
@Wargoose de gustibus 😀
@Zanzox I didn't check the time history but the generic SNK phase might be linked to the time they were having a hard time in terms of business.
My guess would be that they didn't have the $$$ to produce better quality games.
If you played other IPs from them you will notice that the quality declined across the board and not only with KOF.
But, again, I didn't check the time line so don't know for sure.
@Wargoose had that KOF but never played due to lack of time.
I'm hoping the new one will be on the Switch.
I've been playing the new Samurai Shodown and it's great in handheld mode.
@Tourtus @Retro_Player_77 Yes it is because of what has been happening in the US. I have seen various community managers saying to suspend all marketing and scheduled tweets etc. This was not the time to make announcements.
@tourjeff you're right...but of snk doesn't have enough Money... maybe Is Better to stop producing mediocre game, the Legacy Is ended Years ago... For me Is Better to play their old games instead...
@tourjeff even samurai, Is good (I also have It on switch) ... but Is far far away from the old episodes... ss2 for example is a 1994 game but Is far far Better...
@Zanzox They have enough money now, or have had since 2015. What they've been struggling for the longest with is 3D graphics and lighting. I mean XIV was ok as a game, but if they can't impress the casual crowd with the graphics, then you pretty much just chopped off the game's success at the knees. SamSho7 did better in that aspect, at the very least, keeping it all stylized. But gameplay-wise, since they've looped the game's timeline to just before the first game, they must have felt that they had to scale back the number of moves (mostly for the returning characters that will show up in the "sequel", the 1st game, plus Genjuro) and the special game mechanics are reduced to just Rage, Rage Explosion, weapon flip tech, and Issen. I mean, it's ok as a relaunch point, but they could have done more. Like adding the evasive maneuvers from SS2 (rolling, hopping, prone position). SS2 is my favorite for sure, unfortunately that was the last time they used that style for SS, changing the game forever since SS3.
I hope that KoF VX really will be playable in Switch, but, well, it's a wish.
Cham Cham and Hibiki announced! I was hoping for Hibiki, so day one season pass purchase. Time to cut some fools.
Nice to see Cham Cham back.
It'd be hilarious if they ever revisited Nicotine Caffeine, but I imagine his name (and being the chief priest of Koka-in) are considered in poor taste now.
Haven't seen Cham Cham in a while, good to see her making a return.
Well King of Fighters looks more colourful, hopefully gameplay trailer is out soon. Looking at supers is nice, but they looked cool in the previous game.
KOF Trailer is available now:

Doesn't show much and they promise more for next week.
Oh, God. I hated having Cham Cham as my opponent in SS2! It was the opponent I had the hardest time beating and I never liked using her
I still play the old SS games. I've always loved them but I still haven't bought the 2019 game. Is it worth it? It's so cheap in the Russian eshop right now...
@John_Deacon I feel that. Seiger was always the hardest for me, since that brute had so many different grabs!
Pretty cool the game is still getting more DLC. I personally don't own it, but I play the ever living heck out of some Samurai Shodown V Special!
HIBIKI!!!!!!! Now I don't have to play SNK vs Capcom 2 to have a dream match with a SamSho character against her or vice-versa. Here's hoping for.... Akari, maybe? Also, at the expense of having another fighting game IP to basically become another crossover series', perhaps a character from Soul Calibur (Taki, Xianghua, or Sophitia) since Haohmaru showed up in Soul Calibur 6?
why is this game so blurry?
@John_Deacon I've got it on PS4 and it's great. It's like the old games but the inputs are more lenient, some of the Super Moves are great. I particularly like the kid with the umbrella's super.
Can anyone attest to how Sam Sho is online for Switch? I'd be playing from California, USA.
@stinkyx there is an online mode but I haven't tried it yet and don't know if you need a Nintendo subscription to use it.
@stinkyx It's quite good! It's much better than DBFighterz but not as good as Cross Tag. I've read that is better than on PS4 but I don't have that system so I can't confirm that.
It's a great game!
@Retro_Player_77 Hey, look here

This reveal trailer shows of the 3D graphics after 1 :15
About time Guilty Gear had a crossover. Even though it's just a guest appearance, I hope it's either Sol Badguy, Ky Kiske, or Chipp Zanuff.
Who else thought it was ssb
I was glad to see Fighting EX Layer is getting a Switch port. Gotta support my boys at Arika! They might reward me with a new Endless Ocean.

@Ghost_of_Hasashi I'm personally hoping it's Baiken or the new Vampire Samurai they've added to Strive
Nago hype for Samsho

Fingers crossed on Baiken.
@tourjeff It’s your lucky day!

NINJA APPROVED
@Ghost_of_Hasashi Those are exactly my picks! Good taste!!
NINJA APPROVED
OK, I don't know a whole lot about GG, but when choosing a potential character to crossover with your game, you'd think your options are pretty clear: May or Dizzy.
Nice to see Cham Cham again. I may pick this up now.
@Sabrewing Damn love the Street Fighter EX games, I'll definitely look forward to that too.
I really ***** want Baiken to be the Guilty Gear character.
The companies who put out vintage re-releases don't seem to understand who their audience is. People over the age of 30 aren't interested in season passes, online gaming, and DLC. I don't even know what a season pass even is! Nor do I want to know, because I have enough games already. Don't bother me with all these complications. So, although I'm a huge fan of Phantasy Star I, II, III and IV, I have no interest in the online Phantasy Star game that was recently released on Switch. I have no clue why anyone would want to play videogames online with complete strangers, nor do I care to know. I know I'm not the only one who's like that.
I’ve still not bought any of their seasons passes purely based on the fact PS4 owners got S1 for free. Switch owners had to wait how many months extra for this?
@TheWingedAvenger That’s not an accurate profile of gamers in their 30s. Perhaps their 40’s but anybody in their 30’s watched the DLC/Season Pass/online gaming transition happen. Depending on the age, we were older teenagers when it started. WoW came out in ‘04 for instance (and it wasn’t the first MMO).
People don’t have issues with DLC or online games (I say this as a mostly single player or local gamer); folks have issues with pay to win mechanics/micro transactions and on disk DLC. The fighting game community is also pretty ok with season passes as it adds longevity to a game without the old 90’s new release cycle (main offender is SFII).
I’m not saying what you described doesn’t apply to you but that really doesn’t match up to the 30-39 demographic.
@popey1980 The first season pass was only free on the PS4 if you preordered the game. So it was a reward for people who took a leap of faith slapped down $60 based on a trailer. I'm not saying I like that business model, but that was the deal.
@TheFox yep, I agree, I just feel the Switch owners should have been afforded the same thing given we had to wait months longer for an inferior version of the game (not that it’s a terrible game).
@popey1980 I hope the Switch version lives up to the PS4. I've only played the PS4 version, but if any game could cross over to the Switch with minimal downgrade, it seems like Samurai Shodown would be the one. It's got a cool art style, but on a technical level, of all my PS4 games SS has the least impressive graphics.
It's March 18, 2021 now so where's the Season Pass 3 at? It's nowhere on the NA eShop right now.
