It's that time, North American gamers, for the weekly news on the download goodies coming to Wii U and 3DS. This week brings the latest retail offering from Intelligent Systems, retro F-Zero, a much-anticipated Wii U eShop adventure platformer and a stone-cold classic in the Sega 3D Classics range. There's plenty to consider, so let's get to it.
Did you miss the European Nintendo Download details earlier this week? There's no need to wail in despair, as the information is all right here.
Wii U eShop
Trine Enchanted Edition (Frozenbyte, $14.99) - Its Wii U release has taken a little longer than originally expected, but this will allow fans of Trine 2: Director's Cut to become acquainted with the start of this franchise. Featuring online and local co-op just like its successor, this improved version of the original brings its visuals and more in line with the standard set in the sequel, enhancing what was already a rather attractive game. We'll get working on a review soon.
Don't Touch Anything Red (Helix Games, $1.79) - This is a runner / platformer with a basic aesthetic in which you, very simply, jump over and dodge any red obstacles, either in single or local multiplayer. We'll see whether this concept is an enjoyable budget experience for a review.
My Style Studio: Notebook (Cypronia, $2.99) - This offers the opportunity to take notes (obviously), draw, paint or make flipbooks on your GamePad, with Miiverse sharing thrown in. It'll go up against some similar apps on Wii U (with others on 3DS), but we'll get meta by taking review notes in the game as we work on letting you know what we think.
Wii U Virtual Console
F-Zero: GP Legend (Nintendo, $6.99) - This is the odd-one-out of the limited F-Zero franchise entries, as it was based on an anime series of the same name and developed externally. With a different visual style and narrative driving some of the challenges it's certainly a unique offering compared to the other entries; we rather liked it in our F-Zero: GP Legend review.
Wii U eShop Frozenbyte Promotion
Get 20% off Trine Enchanted Edition if you own Trine 2: Director's Cut on the same Wii U, and vice-versa.

ZaciSa's Last Stand (ZenFa Productions, $0.99 until 2nd April, normally $1.99)
Breezeblox (Pugsley, $4.99 until 19th March, normally $9.99)
Arrow Time U (Xenohorizon, $0.99 until 25th March, normally $1.99)
3DS eShop
3D Out Run (Sega, $5.99) - Sega's range of 3D remasters continues with this classic arcade racer, which was enormously popular in its time while pushing truly impressive visuals. We can look forward to the usual M2 upgrades here, with this particular release boasting a Special mode with new tracks and smoother framerate, all with the classic high-tempo driving action. We've given this a hearty recommendation in our 3D Out Run review.
50 PINCH BARRAGE!! (MOBILE & GAME STUDIO Inc, $2.99) - With rather simplistic visuals, this is an action title with elements of puzzle solving as you use a basic moveset to avoid a wide range of dangers, with the emphasis seemingly on multiple deaths and learning from mistakes. We'll die many times in the cause of bringing you a review.
Monster Combine TD (Collavier Corporation, $3.99) - A blend of tower defence and card / board game, this is the latest title from the increasingly prolific Collavier Corporation. You use cards to summon a range of monsters, having to take care to utilise the right abilities; there are elements of Plants vs. Zombies and tower defence combined. While we think the concept is interesting, a range of flaws hold this back - we explain fully in our Monster Combine TD review.
Music On: Electric Guitar (Abylight, $1.99) - Originally part of a series of releases on DSiWare, this allows you to recreate chords, pedal effects and more on your 3DS, a virtual stylus-based guitar to replace your air variation. Back in the day we thought this was solid enough, but will bust out some tunes for a review of this updated version.
Shanghai Mahjong (Bigben Interactive, $7.99) - There are so many Mahjong games to choose from on the 3DS, with this one promising five modes; we'll see whether it can stand out from the crowd in our review.
3DS Retail Download
Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. (Nintendo, $39.99) - A new IP developed by Intelligent Systems, this takes place in an alternate history of literary heroes and Abraham Lincoln fighting to defend a Steampunk London. With over-the-shoulder strategy this is a fresh approach, and in addition to the campaign includes local and online multiplayer modes. Despite the occasional design flaw we are big fans of this in our Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. review. Available from 13th March.

You might want to add that the Hyrule Warriors Boss Pack DLC for $2.99 comes out today to that list.
"Let's see how many people voted for 'nothing for me this week'... Oh, it's 100%. Oh, I'm the only voter." That was a trip.
I'm getting the game I've wanted since the Sega 3D ports were announced, and my afternoon will thank me for it.
I'll be getting the Pokémon Themes and Mighty Switch Force: Hyper Drive Edition.
Besides the Hyrule Warriors boss pack dlc (got the Hero of Hyrule pack), I'll probably just get one or two of the new Pokémon 3DS themes.
What's wrong with Atlus? Their games are on sale almost every week on the eShop and PS Store.
I WANT METROID!!!
Aww, I was hoping SmileBASIC might release today since Petit Computer was removed from the eShop earlier this week... Whelp, time to keep waiting...
@OMC79 Putting their games on sale almost all the time puts their games on the front page most of the time. It's for exposure really.
TRINE. Also, 50 Pinch Barrage also looks hilarious so I'll probably grab that as well.
so what better than last week
we got outrun 3d classics
also why we did not get shahtae as part of the wayforword sale on the 3ds I mean the GBC version
next when are we getting more virtual console games like turbo grafx 16 and 3rd party games on the 3ds
@majinx07 I was wondering same thing.
Otherwise, I have nothing to vote for in the poll.
I wanted to give you 8 dollars and some change for Metroid: Zero Mission this week, Nintendo of America, but now I shall give you nothing, just like I have for the past month or so.
Picking up 3D Outrun. Still on the fence about Code Name STEAM, but if I do buy it, I'll pick up a physical copy. Was hoping we'd get that Sega 3D Classics sale that EU got this week... Ah well.
Wake me up when NoA finally decides to release Metroid: Zero Mission on the eShop.
Nothing for me since my XL is busted. Would have loved to get SMT IV and one of the other Atlus discounts.
Was hoping for Zero Mission. I can wait, though. Maybe I'll finally go for mighty switch force 2
So, when are going to get that Kirby game for Wii in the US, I wonder? My kids loved that one but they were borrowing it :/
@andrew20
Nintendo really underestimated the VC on the current generation. So many portable systems they could've picked from for the 3DS, how about the WonderSwan?. Saturn or even DC games could have been great on the WiiU. We don't even get imports. Shame on you, Nintendo!
Very jealous of those Atlus discounts.
I might consider getting the Phoenix Wright Trilogy, depending on the discount.
3D Outrun and F-Zero (maybe) for me!
Was hoping we'd get them Sega 3D Classics on sale like the Europe did but it looks like a spending spree was not to be.
Both Mighty Switch Force 3DS games for me.
I can always use more Sega 3D classics. Which sadly brings to mind how badly Nintendo has done at making their own 3D classics.
Hyrule Warriors at noon eastern today and not midnight last night then? (somehow it seemed less hard to ask on here than walk down stairs and turn on my Wii U)
Trine 1, 3D OutRun, F-Zero and S.T.E.A.M = very good week.
I'm glad GP Legend is finally out. A while ago, I bought Maximum Atrocity... er... Velocity... by mistake thinking it was that.
how much are the wayforward games? hard to do a voting poll if you dont evenly let us know the discounts.. like if shantae was 1 dollar, im sure everyone would pick it up.
we need BONK 3D Classic
Never tried Sega's Outrun, so it seems 3D Outrun is the game to play this week. I would be disappointed about no Metroid: Zero Mission, but next week is another week. And man these weeks fly by.
According to WayForward, 75% for the Mighty Switch games and 25% for Shantae. Sadly, that doesn't include the GBC version, it's still a good deal, though, considering the prices for the real thing.
@aaronsullivan kirby for wii... don't you mean wii u version because both of them been out for awhile now,
No love for F-Zero.
Nothing for me...
steaaaaaaaaaaaaam
hmm depending on how much i get next month i might get Legend of Kay and Codename Steam,
Saving my eshop credit again. Come on, Zero Mission...
damn why didnt we get the sega 3d sale like EU got? i was set to pick up all the ones i didnt have yet. lame. ive been waiting for days thinking i would get all of them finally. oh well i'll have to wait. what a bunch of crap.
Eventually I will pick up Trine, since my PC copy runs bad on my ancient machine.
The 20% off discount on Trine:EE if you own Trine 2 is nice, but for those looking to save even more money you can buy T:EE for $2.24 on Steam, or 1 and 2 bundled for $3.74 both offers only good thru Saturday so don't delay.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/35700/
That's what happens when Wii U gets games 6 years later (Trine came out in 2009)
And for those who want to pay the full $14.99 there's also a Steam demo so you can try it out first. Trine 2 was 1 of the first games to get a Wii U demo, I'm surprised this edition didn't get 1 as well.
Atlus has a lot of good titles and on top of that they do discounts often. I have more from Atlus than any other series/publisher and every game is excellent.
First on my list is that Pokémon Friends theme, then I'll lend my service to one of my nation's president in Project S.T.E.A.M at midnight.
Edit: I didn't know the next Hyrule Warriors dlc is today. I guess that's a automatic download.
I will be downloading OutRun 3D, but it does piss me off that we are not getting the same discounts that Europe got for the Sega 3D Classics.
I will pay full price for OutRun and Super Hang-On, if we would of got the same discount as Europe I would of bought all the rest.
Trine 2 was one of the prettiest games on my early Wii U library, but I just couldn't really get into it. Something about the controls, I guess. This means I can't really justify getting the original.
3D Outrun! What a great day! 3D Outrun and Mighty Switchforce 2
Might get Trine Enchated Edition later on when it is on sale, so nothing for me this week. Also has Nintendo of America forgot that they can actually release Wii games on the Eshop now?
MIght be time to try out Might Switch Force. Question is WiiU or 3DS version.
A Sega 3D Classics sale would be fantastic. I don't have any of them but with a decent enough sale I'd almost be willing to grab all or most of them anyway.
For me I'll be grabbing Mighty Switch Force 1 & 2 I just don't know which system to get them on. I'm thinking I'll grab the Hyperdrive edition on the Wii U. Which system is MSF 2 better on? Is 1 worth getting on both systems?
Can't believe we don't get the SEGA 3D sale. I thought of getting Super Hang-On, but I guess this solves that issue. Just Outrun for me then.
Outrun and Pinch for me.
I was not expecting those Pokemon themes to be available outside of Japan so soon. I'll definitely be getting the Rayquaza theme along with Shantae and the Pirate's Curse.
Getting a retail copy of Code Name STEAM soon
When can we get Turbografx, Neo Geo and N64 in WiiU / 3DS VC?
Ordering STEAM along with Rainbow Curse physical.
From the eShop 3D Outrun, Afterburner 2, the HW DLC and possibly MSF 2. I would like to know what the discount for the AA games is.
That mega rayquaza to go with pokemon TCG or trozei. I can't decide. Can someone help me. 😩
No Metroid Zero Mission, WTF Nintendo!?!?
No wonder Nintendo isn't making a new F Zero- nobody cares about that franchise anymore. Nintendo knew this all along, but people must just be in denial I guess. Maybe this poll will bring a healthy dose of reality to the table. Sucks too cause I'd love to see a new one. But with interest ranging somewhere between a teaspoon and tablespoon, that's likely never going to happen.
@OMC79 I bet it works out better for them that way. There are WayForward games i think look good, but ehh i'll wait til they're on sale. Pikmin, Wario Wii U? Eh they look nice, but $60 each, pass.
$10 for an Atlus RPG? $15? Who can say no!
I own every Atlus title and have likely beaten only one.
I'd like to get Etrian Oddysey IV at some point, already have Shin Megami Tensei IV.
No Metroid... instead, we get an inferior VC title as usual.
@firstnesfan IKR? I was hoping that would be in the mix as well.
North American eShop sale prices for:
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies: $16.79
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy - $22.49
Come on Nintendo! How am I possibly supposed to have time for Codename STEAM before Xenoblade 3D comes out next month while I'm still knees deep in Monster Hunter?!
@JaxonH
I don't think demand for the GBA title can really be used to judge demand for the series in general. I love F-Zero X and F-Zero GX, and would pick up a VC release of either of those titles, but I don't really have any interest in the SNES or GBA titles.
3D Out Run!! Can't wait to hear good old Splash Wave and Magical Sound Shower coming out of my system... Apparently they made more music for it too, Color Ocean, Shining Wind and Midnight Highway.. I hope Shining Wind sounds like Shiny World from OutRun 2 (For some reason, the sequel put both words together for the title..).
I'm downloading the Hyrule Warriors Boss Pack today since it came with my season pass.
The link to the F-Zero: GP Legend review does not seem to work.
Definitely excited about Outrun and F-Zero this week! Don't worry everybody. We should get Zero Mission before Christmas at least.
I was really hoping for Zero Mission and/or a Wii download. Nothing for me this week!
Nothing for me this week, but ad soon as I get the money I will be getting Codname Steam.
Oh, boo. I had enough credit for Might Switch Force 1 & 2 on Wii U is they were both 75% off... but the second game isn't. Maybe pricing in the US is different than Canada?
(Both are still great value at $2.50 per game, but I'm not sure if I want to buy extra funds to double-dip on the first game when I already own it via 3DS.)
Trine and STEAM for me. Still waiting on oh about half a dozen GBA games that EU already has.
I'll be checking out Steam, & GP Legend.
Um... damn, ok? We all have different tastes, agreed, and I didn't read most of the above posts, but... this collectively has to be one of the THE BEST weeks I've seen for both Wii U AND 3DS. From discounts, to new releases, to VC, there's not a lot of "bad" in this line up. Here's my run down of "to get":
Trine Enchanted Edition
Trine 2: Director's Cut (never got it the first go around)
My Style Studio: Notebook (It intrigues me, will wait for review first)
F-Zero: GP Legend
Shantae And The Pirate's Curse (I'm beating the first Shantae currently)
3D Out Run
The rest are ones I either played or ones I will get once my list clears out a bit. If only Nintendo could pull this EVERY week....
@JaxonH X and GX are the only F-Zero games that would be a reliable gauge of interest. That said, neither of them will coming anytime soon given Nintendo's denial of N64 and GC VC.
Getting Phoenix Wright Trilogy and adding 3D OutRun on the wishlist.
So many things to buy... I don't even know what I'll end up downloading but this is a great week and you can't tell me otherwise
Outrun for me! I'm still good on vc games since the Dkc&land blow out sale. If Nintendo could do releases like that once a month, I'd be one happy gamer.
really hoping the pokemon themes come out in the uk soon. cant wait for codename steam but we still have to wait another couple of months
@Grumblevolcano I'd love Nintendo do to give F-Zero GX/AX the remake treatment akin to Wind Wake. With the implementation of online and leader boards, ghosts, I think that would allow Nintendo a good gauge of the market. Plus that game was possible the best, most difficult racer ever built.
Ace attorney trilogy and ill start a marathon
If you haven't yet bought Shantea Pirate's Curse, now is your chance!
Go, download immediately! You will not regret it...
If I were to get one of the Phoenix Wright games above that are on sale, which would anyone recommend? Is it worthwhile to start from the beginning with the trilogy or should I try something newer? I've never played anything in the series...
@OMC79 the Wiiu vc hasn't recived any imports other than mario 2 Japanese edition but the 3ds has had a few like summer carnival reca and that samurai top down game plus a few others
Bought both of the Mighty Switch Forces for $1.50 each, and I'm considering Aeternoblade, which is on sale for $6.00 right now. Think it's worth it? I already have Code of Princess and Senran Kagura, not sure I need another side scrolling beat em up.
@FiveDigitLP the trilogy is a better value seeing as how it's three games plus added content.
Huh...nothing again. My wallet lives another day.
Is there any way to buy Phoenix Wright Dual Destinies if your NNID age is under 17? I really want to buy it once it's on sale but I'm 16, and was wondering if there was a parental lock or something so I can buy it, since as it is I'm not even able to look at it on the eshop. I really wish there were a physical version...
@Aozz101x I was talking Kirby Return to Dreamland which hasn't been released for Wii U in the US yet. It's one of those digital Wii releases I just couldn't remember the name.
Soooo excited for 3D OutRun finally!
No Metroid Zero Mission, no sale.
Disappointed that we didn't get the sega 3D classic sales this week like EU.
Nice week! Can we please start putting the price for the titles on sale though?
I'm gonna take advantage of the mighty switch force sales.
Great week! My wallet doesn't agree though. lol
Getting the Phoenix Wright trilogy for sure, 3D Outrun, and Mighty Switch Force. I might get Dual Destinies too later on when I have a bit more cash. Not sure about Shantae and STEAM as they don't seem like games I'll get around to playing anytime soon.
$1.50 for the mighty games? count me in!
When NOA releases Metroid Zero Mission, which should have been done already, is when I'll take interest in purchasing from the eShop.
I just bought Phoenix Wright Dual Destinies last week! Ah well, bought Outrun and I'm loving the heck out of it.
I knew not to get my hopes up on NoA getting Zero Mission this week. Please Understand
@I-U I hope we get zero mission by the end of March.
I'm really disappointed, I finally cracked and bought the Ace Attorney Trilogy last week, and now it's discounted. :1
Hmmmmm Ace Attorney or finally taking the time plunge and getting shin megami....
I hope we see a 3D version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Streets of Rage 2.
No Metroid... instead, we get an inferior VC title as usual.
GP Legend is decent enough for a GBA F-Zero game.
@Bones00 Man, I would have bit on the AA Trilogy @ $14.99. I had a feeling it was going to only be 25% off...
Hyrule Warriors "Boss Pack", as I already pre-ordered the full season pass and I think maybe 3D outrun for me...
Mighty Switch Force today, and then Dual Destinies later when I have a bit more money. ^^'
@90sRetroGaming I think I would have bit on that price too seeing as I've not played any Phoenix Wright game.
Getting both Mighty Switch Force games for a little over 3 bucks is a deal so good I couldn't pass it up!
CODENAME STEAM!!!!!!!!!!
Pokemon: Hanafuda theme for me. I'm glad I never bought the regular Hanafuda theme, despite being tempted.
Looks like Mighty Switch Force is....$1.49!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I enjoyed the first one, and for a $1.50ish???? Can't say no to Wayforward!
I DL'ed Shantae on Wii U, I want to play the game on a console.
@IceClimbers "on the front page." As well they should be.
Good week and like always some people hate it for no reason.
I paid $5.00 for F-Zero GP Legend brand new at Toys R Us back in the day, so this is a rip off to me for a digital copy.
I'm getting Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. but only as a retail purchase
Shin Megami Tensei IV was tempting me but I'm broke and anyway I can't stay away from MH4U enough to play anything else so I'd be throwing money away.
Love the idea of Shanghai Mahjong but thinking the price is absolutely ridiculous. Half that price makes sense. It's only Mahjong!
WTF SMTIV is soooo low.
I'm in America so I get this tomorrow. But what I find ironic is that in the game you start off in London
I voted for F-Zero GP Legend because I already got it, but I'll pick up Outrun 3D and double dip on Mighty Switch Force for 3DS tomorrow. The HD version on Wii U is excellent and very highly recommended!
It's all about OutRun.
Guys, please pick Pinch 50! This game is wonderful . Perfect for people who are searching challenge. The ambiance is unforgetable.
I finally bought both Mighty Switch Force games for like $1.50 each haha.
The review of F-Zero GP Legends is not working; it gives me a crazy error message when I click on the link.
Outrun for me!! One of my all time favorites!!
I hope sega jumps on the wii u vc soon. They're wasting those piles of classics sitting there in their vault doin nothing!! Cmon sega!! At least put them on ps4 and xone if you're turned off to wii u!!!
There's no discount on Etrian Odyssey IV
The Sega 3D Classics line rarely disappoints. So happy they are continuing to put these titles out.
