Pokémon GO is past the viral stage, during which all sorts of craziness occurred, and is now another popular app among many competing for our time. With Halloween upon us, though, Niantic is keen to make sure players keep catching 'mon as they go tricking and treating.
It's been confirmed that there'll be more candy and 'spooky' 'mon to catch from 26th October up to 1st November.
From October 26th to November 1st, you'll earn double the amount of Candy every time you catch, hatch and transfer Pokémon! Don't forget your Buddy Pokémon, because they will help you earn Candy four times as fast.
Will you be keeping up with Pokémon GO this Halloween?

YES!!! Finally an event to get the PokéGO community playing again!!! BRILLIANT!!!!!
Only need 44 more candy to get an Ivysaur! Glad to know I'll be able to make a dent in that! Been stuck non 137 for soooooo long now
We are all gonna have CP 3,000 Golbats by the end of the week!
I'm kind of done with it... I was never able to get anywhere with it as I couldn't even beat gyms of my own color or another. BUT I do like they're doing this! Maybe I'll download it again... who knows. In any case, this is a good/smart move for them to keep people engaged!
I'm so hung up on the main series games and highly prefer them over the mobile game(s).
Holding events like these is pretty important for the game's longevity. This is sure to help the waning popularity (at least for a week or two)
Now, ignorant American question:
Is Halloween celebrated in all the countries with access to the game? If not, will the event still be active and 'spooky halloween' themed?

Bad timing since I'm at a place where there are no Pokémon in 3km radius.
My family was just discussing this the other day but we were thinking just on Halloween itself. This is nice! Extra candy is perfect which is what we were thinking. Spooky pokemon is fun though, too.
@TerrapinJess
For what it's worth, training gyms of your own color is a bit easier now because you can use six pokemon like is possible when you are taking over opposing gyms.
@Late Bummer. I noticed that the last update did seem to spread them out a bit more. We were never able to reach any from our home but now there is one location within range.
Cool, I was thinking it would be a huge missed opportunity to not run into some Gastly on Halloween
Pumpkaboo is the most Halloweeny Pokémon in the series, I wonder why they don't update the roster of available Pokémon to include it for Halloween?
I'll redownload the app once they add more content.
I'm in the US and I've never seen a Drowzee in the wild.
Yay more Zubats, just what I always wanted.
Nice, should be useful to get those last few evolution's I need to finish up my Pokedex.
Drowzee is common as fudge here in the UK. If the update makes Drowzee even more common, well, I think all spawns will end up being more sodding Drowzee!!!
The candy boost is nice though. I've only found a single Dratini so far, and since he's my favourite I'm desperate for a Dragonite. So I'll need to do a ton of walking over the next week to make a decent dent in my buddy candy count!
Anyone know where you have the best chances of locating Tangela, Lapra and Hitmonchan?
Nice
Dis update is de_Sp00ky
@Desrever There are many countries that celebrate Halloween throughout the world. Canada celebrates it. Most European countries and some countries in Asia celebrate it. Australia and New Zealand also celebrate it. I'm sure they will have the same (or similar) event as the US. I'm not sure how other countries will participate in the event. This event will also occur during the first day of the Day of the Dead, which occurs on November 1-2. Maybe that is how they will have the event in Mexico and South America.
No interest in playing this after I uninstalled the app months ago.
Candy bonuses is grey. But MORE Drowzee? Please no! >_<
@Ogbert
I'd be more worried about more zubats if I were you.
I wonder what will happen for other holidays (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, ETC.).
and I also wonder what might happen on February 27th. (when Pokémon first started.)
yeah no thanks, my game was already Zubat Go since launch so this won't change anything
This would be perfect to give kids something to do while they walk around neighborhoods trick-or-treating, but I doubt many kids still play the game.
Until they add PVP battles I'm only playing to catch Pokémon and fill up my Pokédex. My Pokémon aren't strong enough for gyms anyway :/
... I've yet to get any of these besides one Gastly, so yay me.
I'll be in the city for a couple days next week so this is great timing. Can stock up on items and get catching some ghosts.
A ghost....!
Btw, I will check later.
@LuigiMan123 no Zubats are not so common near me. Drowzee on the other hand are more common that Pidgey and Rattata and I have many friends who have the same infestations in their area.
Why no Cubone?
[edit] Just checked my Pokedex:
Zubat: 164
Pidgey: 317
Rattata: 293
Drowzee: 571!
And that's caught not just seen >_<
@Aerona I was in Seattle for PAX and they were everywhere!
Zubat... Seen 356... Caught 269
Golbat... Seen 42... Caught 33
Gastly... Seen 174... Caught 129
Haunter... Seen 29... Caught 24
Gengar... Seen 2... Caught 2
Drowzee... Seen 891... Caught 634
Hypno... Seen 83... Caught 70
There is no need for those Pokémon to get a spawn boost, and they'd just be spawning instead of other Pokémon which would be far more worthwhile to catch while the candy boost is in effect.
It seems like Niantic can't do anything right without doing something wrong at the same time.
I am loving this! Just got the update tonight and have caught many I didn't have. The double candy helps a lot also.
My Pokemon Go plus hasn't been working correctly since the update, anyone else?
@Ogbert I noticed today that there are more than just what is displayed above. I've seen more Cubones, Marowaks, and Meowths as well!
@DragonEleven Where are you located? The only thing I see a lot of out of that list are Zubats. We mainly have normal pokemon around here, but when I went to Denver, CO I noticed a crap ton more fire and rock type along with more Abras and Drowzees.
@FiveDigitLP I'm in the UK... those numbers are nothing compared to normal types (although Drowzee are probably close... they're all over the place here), but we do get a lot of water types in my area as there is a river running through the town, while fire and rock types are probably some of the rarest... mainly only appearing in nests.
Fortunately they seem to have adapted the halloween spawns, with Gastly, Cubone and their evolutions having gotten the boost (in my area at least) instead of Drowzee, Zubat, etc. so the halloween event is currently looking better than I first thought.
@FiveDigitLP yeah thankfully I've been seeing more Cubone than anything, which is good for me as I'd only caught a couple before. Still a lot of Drowzee but doesn't seem more than usual thankfully!
@Ogbert woah.
