For those of us that already own L.A. Noire on PC / PS3 / Xbox 360, it's tough to justify buying it again for the Nintendo Switch. Then you see Rockstar's new Switch trailer and realise how cool it is to have the game on a portable device, and suddenly it's time to check the bank balance.
Assuming these are real Switch visuals and performance levels it's looking pretty good on the diminutive screen - 720p when undocked, of course, but it looks smooth. Naturally some will doubt it's legit Switch footage, but let's remember this is a last-gen game, so Nintendo's hybrid should theoretically be able to handle it rather well.
Check it out for yourself below.
It's out on 14th November; are you tempted to pick it up?

Apparently it runs at 1080p docked and 720p undocked. If this is true and the framerate is solid it's a nice open world port imo. Now can we get GTAV over here as well?
LA Noire is still an amazing game six years after the original release.
And to be honest, I believe it's only a matter of time until we see GTA V on the Switch.
I was already convinced and think it looks gorgeous. Starting tomorrow it's going to be one busy week/rest of the year!!
Already preordered it, didn't have a chance to play it originally so now it's the perfect moment to give it a chance.
Looks very good on handheld mode.
This and Doom are the best examples on the ports that you can put on Switch despite complex visual complications
Yep got this pre-ordered! Cannot wait. I haven't played it since it first came out... and can't remember anything about it. So I hope it doesn't come flooding back so I can enjoy it all over again.
I know next to nothing about this game. If I had a Switch, I'd definitely be getting it. Along with DOOM, Skyrim, Mario Odyssey, FE Warriors and XC2. My bank is glad I don't have a Switch.
So hyped for this.
@rewindxrepeat Its all going to depend on the sales of LA Noire. In short, if you want GTAV on Switvh, you better buy LA Noire. Otherwise Rockstar will just say the usual "oh well third party doesnt sell on Nintendo consoles so we arent supporting the Switch any more".
Same goes for Doom, Skyrim and Wolfenstein, If we want go see Fallout 4 on Switch.
When the new trailer tells you that the doubt meme is dead.
The Good Cop/Bad Cop choice makes waaaay more sense for some of the protagonist reactions though. I remember being quite displeased by some violent actions. Come on dude, I said doubt, not beat the crap out of.
I've been overlooking this game, but it's probably something I'd rather like. Maybe I'll get it on PS4 eventually.
@Marshi Obviously that's true. LA Noire should be played on the Switch by anyone who owns one. Me personally, I played it on the PS3 but I'll probably try it again.
Doom and Wolfenstein, however, I'm definitely gonna buy!
Looks great
Was looking forward to this until i saw the 14gb caveat so that was one pre order cancelled which is a major bummer as i wanted a physical copy, but on the plus side can now get bethesdas offerings instead.
@Nintendoforlife considering GTA V was made for PS3 and Xbox360 and then ported to other systems then yes, easy peasy.
But even if Switch gets GTA V which would be awesome, it's an older game and looking at time between GTA releases you could say GTA 6 is around the corner
Really wanted to get this but, call me old fashioned, I am not a fan of full nudity and a ton of F-bombs in games. Especially with snall kids in my house. Sadly, I'll have to pass.
Hated this on 360 so it's a no for me
I can’t wait. I don’t care if it looks worse then it was on my PS3, still was a great game and now I can play it portable
@Randomlight you do realize Doom has a huge extra download as well (not to mention it will need a patch to fix some audio and frame rate issues eventually)? Required downloads will be a thing moving forward especially if we continue to get more 3rd party games. I am realizing now the switch is set up for people to be using MULTIPLE microSD cards for expanded space. Even if you buy physical these days downloads are required like 97% of the time for patches and updates. We live in an internet connected society and that is not going to change any time soon. I collect the physical games for switch, but I know that I need expanded storage and room for downloads in 2017 and into the future. I won't blame the publisher from only using a 8 or 16 gb cart because from what i have read it is the same price for a 50gb Blu Ray and an 8gb switch cart. When it comes to business they are not going to spend extra money for a game that might not even sell as well as other platforms. It's just unfortunate that switch carts are so expensive, but they will get cheaper over time so hopefully some of these issues will be alleviated in the future.
I'll pick this up for sure. Was a bloody good game.
I have £19 of Tesco clubcard vouchers to spend, and considering this is only £36 there, would reduce the price to £17 which is pretty much a steal. I did enjoy my short time with the original before I traded in my Xbox 360 BUT do I have enough time to play it between 100% - ing Mario Odyssey and the release of XC2. Probably not enough time but I have a weird feeling that there won't be many copies of this going around and the price may stick or even go up.
Gamespot have said the framerate isn’t great whilst docked. That’s a little worrying, surely they should drop the resolution slightly from 1080p so it’s stays at a stable 30fps. They said it plays better in handheld mode, which is odd as there’s less power, but obviously a lower resolution, seems it was made mainly optimised for handheld use.
sigh to get Skyrim or LA Noire... I've played 100 hours on the former but would love to get back in the world. But this looks brilliant!
Super excited for this one. Hopefylly I'll be done with Odyssey until it releases (less than a couple hundred moons to go).
What is amazon’s holdup with putting a pre order up.
I protest. That Irish guy - I don't remember his nickname - hasn't showed up yet to comment negatively.
@BravelyDavid
The doom download is optional not necessary to play the game out of the box, la noir is an old game, yes this is an updated port but the amount of work required would be much less than a full game so arguably should be ready at purchase. I buy physical to play games not to have some useless display case with a plastic cartride the serves no purpose once the patch is no longer available, I can blame publisher for being cheap I pre ordered the game ar 45 quid and would have paid it. Games should be finished before release I didn't need a day one patch to play mario so why should I part money for half a product, you dont buy a film with only 80 percent present then download the end in a update at a later date why should games be treated any less. Also as a consumer I must decide where my money goes I'd rather buy two games immediately rather than 1 and expanded memory just to play that.
The 14GB download was really off-putting and made me consider cancelling my preorder but I'm actually pretty keen to give this one a go and I found it for a reasonable price so I'm just gonna bite the bullet on this one. At least it looks like it might be a good port. I appreciate the touch screen controls given I'm likely to be playing mostly in handheld mode.
Another last gen overpriced game. If I wanted to replay old games would just get Okami HD for $19 dollars on the PS4/PC. Now that makes sense.
I'm never that bored on my way to work where I pay $50-$60 dollars to replay games I can get for $10 dollars at home.
We'll see if the Switch version becomes the definitive version of the game, but already it looks like the changes made in the game are really smart. It's really nice to see it isn't just a port of the old version, but an actual enhanced edition. Keep flip flopping on this. The mandatory download isn't great, but better box art, portability, enhanced gameplay, etc. ? Plus since it was a previous gen game, performance shouldn't be an issue. Getting harder to pass up.
i have never played it despite i bought it on Steam ....
@tsdenizen what? dream on....this is a PS3 port, the definitive version is coming to PS4 and XONE
@BlackenedHalo not correct. Gameplay-wise, it's closer to the XB1 and PS4 versions. The differences between them is those can go 4K while the Switch version has portable and touchscreen capability but can only go 1080p. The new decisions during interrogation, new outfits, new everything is consistent with the PS4/XB1 version. Not simply a PS3 port.
Day 1 for me. Never did play it on the 360
Funny, I played this game alot, then sold it now i want it again, will buy it for the switch and finish it again and again. This game is a masterpiece! And nice touch (screen) to enhance it like that, love it.
That's a good trailer. I'd like to play this at some point.
Day one. Absolutely.
Never played this so it's brand new for me. And after GCU discount it was just $39.99 which feels like a pretty good deal for a full $60 AAA game, and even more so being on Switch.
@Agramonte If I want to replay old games I'll pull them out and replay them for free. Now that makes sense.
I don't what's there to doubt about. L.A. Noire is an old game with outdated graphics, of course it runs on the Switch.
Is this game good? Like what type of games is this similar to?
@AG_Awesome It’s been available to pre order it on Amazon for ages, not sure what you mean
@JJ286 You play as a detective, but you have to work your way up the ranks. You solve crimes by looking for clues, you also interview witnesses and suspects, it’s a brilliant game.
@Hughesy American here. Lol. Our amazon site hasn’t had it listed at all
@Hughesy not in the USA. They only have the new strategy guide lol!
@JJ286 you also get to drive all over an open LA in the 1940s. Each case is like a detective movie. You see a crime happen and you go figure it out... Takes you all over the city and you drive random cars from the era to get there like GTA. But there is also a bigger underline murder story at play. (ANd your character experience in the war) You also get new Partners as you go that ads to the narrative with random banter. Sometimes you need to chase suspects down the streets of LA (in car races and on foot) and even beat them in fist fights.
As you do missions you slso get calls via the squad car radio (Bank robbery and stuf), you can choose to do. Again just like GTA - You drive to the location on the map and a side non story event takes place. A shoot out, hostage situation, officer down support.
It is a shame it is the old game and not a part 2. You kind a know How to solve all the cases if you play it again.
Never played it and no very little. This trailer has me intrigued. Adding to the wishlist.....another addition!
Why is this $20 more than the PS4 or Xbox version?
Just be wary of where you're playing this in handheld mode: there is nudity in it!
Doubt you want to be taking your lunch break at work only for someone to walk in and see that...
It's PS3 level graphics, no advance lighting or DoF like Doom so of course it can run in 1080 docked. Why doubt it's Switch in game graphics? After Doom, this one just looks dated.
@Agramonte Oh really, my apologies, that is stupid.
I just left this message on the RockStar's L.A. Noire support section:
"I'll get the remaster for the Xbox One and I'd triple dip it (since I bought it on the X360 - and even on PC but I don't count it because it's a mere licence on Steam) on Switch if RockStar if it were released on a 32Gb cartridge instead of a 16Gb one that requires downloading game files.
That being said (or written), hey RockStar, you should release games for Nintendo Switch in the future fully digital or fully on the cartridge.
Stop doing that "bs" we have to swallow on the PS4/XONE, ok?
I could argue a lot about how idiotic doing that on Switch (that it has only 32Gb for internal memory and users are forced to buy a SD card and all) but don't be cheap in the future and deliver your games on a forking 32Gb card. We're paying the costs, anyway, just do it right and clean, capisci?"
https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115008151807-A-little-word-for-L-A-Noire-on-the-Nintendo-Switch-and-a-idea-for-future-Switch-releases
I'd totally get in the future a re-re-release on a 32Gb card with all the game required data on it, not needing a forking download to play it on the Switch.
@Agramonte thanks! I have never play this game and by your description sounds pretty cool. Going to check some videos now. I think I can get behind this game.
