Well, the end is coming, it was fun while it lasted.
After a number of months of small but occasionally handy gifts through the 'Tips from the Wild' Switch news posts, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has taken its impressive success and online buzz in order to go peak internet. Yep, it's a post about selfies.
It explains that you can press the X button with the camera rune to switch to 'self-portrait' mode, and then press ZL to change poses; we first saw this in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD of course. In what we assume is a parody of the declining value of anything and everything focused on the internet, there's no related gift either. That's right Link, no raw meat to cook and get you through a tough battle, but you can take a selfie with Calamity Ganon before he devours you and destroys Hyrule.
Those poses though, cool right?!

Strike a pose with Ganon
We didn't get this tip on the Wii u version, whine, whine!
Nintendo needs to make a Multiplayer DLC for BotW. Imagine adventuring in this huge map and meeting other players? Nintendo really needs to mod the map for an Online Monster Hunter type game to keep people playing until the next Zelda.
But the gift of selfies would be that people care....right? I see a lot of people taking selfies....and someone cares...for the love of the Goddess, please, someone, tell me that people care!
Seriously, people, stop taking generic selfies.
No star fragments đ¤
I love the fun poses I can do with Link, but I wish we could post them to social media as is. Having to screenshot the photo either before you take it or while it is in the album (with all the other borders and what not) is not ideal. It'd be nice if we could post the pictures much like you could in Wind Waker HD. At least, make it so that you can make the picture full screen in the album and then just screenshot it from there!
I know this sounds like such a minor complaint, but I've done some pretty funny stuff that I'd love to share with people. There was a lot of great stuff that came from Wind Waker, so I thought this seemed like an oversight on Nintendo's part.
But how does this address the issue of third party AAAs on the Switch? Where's Call of Duty? Sorry wrong thread again.
I don't think I've ever taken more pics/screengrabs in a game as I have with BOTW. There's times I just do nothing but stare at the scenery and the sunsets/sunrises.
only commenting for the picture caption
A+
@Henmii I can see an argument for WiiU only owners being unhappy some Switch updates not making the transition. I'm one of the lucky who own said game for my Switch, but had I not been in this fortunate position, yes, I'd be irked somewhat.
Edit: oh, just like to say also this game is a masterpiece, incredible.
When my daughter wants to see the âLink mountain climbing gameâ this is her favorite activity. Climb a mountain, then make Link dance in self portrait mode by rotating the right stick. Minutes of entertainment, and for a toddler; thatâs something.
@WiltonRoots - Youâre not even factoring in hidden costs, ports, and Amiibo. You were getting so good at this too, but I see youâre slipping a bit. Best to have a notepad or word doc open with different scripts you can just copy, paste, and alter slightly for days when youâre feeling uninspired. Itâs really the only way to carefully manicure your online personna.
@Nincompoop I don't agree with this â part of what make BoTW so fun for ME is the feeling of being isolated... I on the other hand would prefer DLC that would let us play the events before the Calamity. All those cutscenes we see... Being able to play through and get to those parts and explore the world before destruction.
Would be awesome to me.
"Well, the end is coming, it was fun while it lasted." Wait....does this mean you're ending the Zelda tips series because.......winter is coming?
@Nincompoop I've thought about a Zelda MMO on more than one occassion. There is plenty lore and a big enough world for it.
Where are the Wii U complainers?? This is weird.
@Henmii That feature is going to be broken when MiiVerse is shuttered for Wii U users. To my knowledge, there is no export to SD Card built in.
@MoonKnight7 It didn't come with a free gift so they are still trying to decide if they should complain or not. Of course if this tip came with a free tree branch you know they would have come out in full force.
@gokev13
Haha, amen to that.
You know, when these tips first got announced (not fully knowing what angle they were going for), I was on their side cause I thought Nintendo could have found a way to give them special items through the eshop or something. Then, we a learned what this actually was, and is for brand new players just picking up the game. New players aren't playing on a Wii U at this point.
After the first gift of a slab of meat and 2 apples, and I saw people complaining, I said to myself, "Really?" Even just last week SLIGEACH weighed in on his usual broken record cause he couldn't get a rusty broadsword? Really? Seriously? I pinned a spot on my map after getting off the plateau within a few hours and you can have all the rusty broadswords you want! I get that the Wii U got the short end of the stick for a long time, but come on, seriously? Good lord...
@MoonKnight7 @gokev13 - Funny but true posts. People approach a situation like this in two manners, and each manner says a lot about the person. When one sees another receive something, they either say, âGood for themâ and move on, or they say, âIâve been cheatedâ and complain on the Internet.
So, yesterday Nintendo want more mature content. Today they are playing just the tip!
I'm happy I played this on the Wii U and posted some really nice pics on Miiverse. Best thing about this article is it reminded me I still need to sign up for migrating my Miiverse. Hope I didn't miss the deadline.
As for the free items Switch owners got with the tips, good for them, they were paid for being beta testers for Nintendo News. As long as we get the DLC.
@bimmy-lee I've been cheated! Not everyone can splash out âŹ800 on a Switch, battery pack, screen protector, 512GB SD card, pro controller etc etc....rinse and repeat tomorrow.
@WiltonRoots - Perfect form! People on the internet are really learning about your opinion now. Given that youâre an 8 foot tall, golden Aztec sun god, Iâm a touch nervous about you undertaking the delicate job of installing the screen protector. Youâre probably going to crush that thing in your massive, powerful hands like so many cheap joy con.
I will say this though, I was a little disappointed with the selfie option because I thought Link should be actually holding the Sheikah Slate in his hand so that the selfie pictures show Link's face and torso with his arm extending to the camera. You should then have the option to change his facial expression, like make him do "duck lips" for instance. If another character/enemy/animal is beside Link taking a selfie they should automatically move their heads together for the selfie and allow you to pick from different facial expressions or poses, like "cheek to cheek" or arms around each other. Just imagine taking a selfie with a Lynel in mid battle with their cheeks together both making the "duck lips" face. It could have been magical.
Finally these useless 'tips' have come to an end. How fitting that they concluded with the worst and most unfitting feature of BotW.
I really don't get why the devs put it in there in the first place and up to this day I refuse to use that stupid feature.
@Nincompoop I was thinking about multiplayer Zelda for a while since BotW launch. Maybe added as a DLC, which was something that came to my mind. Or as a new Zelda game that features a lot of what the Zelda game has + the rpg elements online games have. I think it will be perfect if done right and works well into the Switch with it's new online payment features when it's out.
Oh man, if only there was somewhere us Wii U owners could have discovered this! I tried looking up Breath of the Wild on my Wii U YouTube app and only found thousands of results, but that doesn't count because it's not in the chuffing news icon at the bottom of the gamepad. Also, I am fairly convinced that the grass where I live is less green than in places where I do not live. If nobody sees the link to that, this is a Zelda post; the link will always be there! (note to self - don't write stuff online in the morning unless caffeine has first been consumed)
@shani
It was useless for people like us, assuming you are finished or close to finished with the game. Nintendo should have told us that this was going to be for brand new players, so we all kinda got a little too amped up about it. Still, this should have been there on March 3rd. I guess they ran out of time, or thought of it too late to implement it when the bulk of players were playing.
@MoonKnight7 Yeah exactly, these things ar epretty time-sensitive, so for it to be useful for the majority of players, they should've started at the game's release.
I'm actually playing the game again in master mode on the Switch after finishing it on Wii U a few months ago.
@Pazuzu666,
Lol, I was just joking! Some people on this site whine about this feature missing from the Wii u version, but so far it only delivered items you can easily find on your own. And this time it didn't even deliver a item, just a commonknown piece of information.
We Wii u owners won't be missing out on anything. The season-pass is available on both versions.
