Nintendo's American website has today removed all traces of certain video game generations. To be precise, there are no longer game listings for Wii, WiiWare, DS and DSiWare. The Wii U information page has also been removed.
It means you'll have to look elsewhere if you're wanting more information about these games from certain generations, such as this lovely website. A post over on Reddit also points out how information about DSiWare games is still available on the 3DS eShop. The DS was originally released in 2004 and the Wii arrived a few years later in 2006.

The DS came out in 2004, I assumed that if they hadn't deleted them already they never would. But, they should have at least kept the DSiWare games up there since they are still selling them on the 3DS eShop
I might eventually pick up a DS to play all the exclusive rpgs that I have missed out on.
Maybe this means Switch will get rewards options soon. But it better not be a sign that the wii u shop is coming down soon.
"Were you still buying older games from the official Nintendo website?"
Um... No, but i bought them from playasia or Ebay. 😀
I still want to add my Wii, Wii U, NDS and 3DS games that i haven't get yet.
Meanwhile, Nintendo's Japanese page is still gladly hosting GameCube-era pages like the one for Eternal Darkness. XD https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ngc/gedj/index.html
I think the only thing I ever bought from the Nintendo site directly was a replacement Poke-walker for Heart Gold after I accidentally ruined mine by washing it with the laundry.
@ALinkttPresent Could have been an oversight on their part.
@Anti-Matter So you mean, no, you weren't buying them from the official website. You said yourself you were buying them from Ebay and Play Asia.
@Morrow Get a 3ds instead, they can also play ds games.
@Heavyarms55
Fixed.
@Sabrewing I'd rather read about theVirtual Boy.

Well, crap.
Procrastinators: Get ready to buy everything you wanted from the Wii U eShop before it's taken down.
That's a bummer. I actually liked the Wii and Wii U.
...but I guess good things must come to an end at some point.
Press F to pay respects
DS, Wii, Wii U: "Reggie, I don't feel so good..."
@KingMike Now you're playing with power.
Open gamefaqs if you need information about game titles. 👍
If you hadn't bought Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 (which came with all the e-Reader levels) and EarthBound Beginnings on Wii U VC then now is the time to get them otherwise once they gone they gone for good.
i'll sadly missed on what i've played on my older Wii (before it stop working, and had to get a replacement to continued playing all my Wii Games)
but, i'm glad that i got Smash Bros 64. Pokemon Rumble and Snowpack Park, before they we're gone for good. i've enjoy all three quite well.
But the DSi games are still available on the 3DS eshop, right? And Wii U eshop just got a new game last week, so surely that’s not coming down for a while, right? They gave us like 2 years notice with the Wii Shop closing, right? Right?!?
I'll miss the ol' Kirby's Return to Dream Land microsite. It's archived if I ever want to look at it again, but it was so neat.
Fun fact: Last year I spearheaded a project on Kirby Wiki to have all the Kirby Flash games documented. Two months after I thoroughly covered Kirby's Epic Patchifyer, NoE deleted the unarchived game. Good thing I got to it when I did, huh?
@Morrow pick a 2ds/3ds
Much better console with 100% backwards compatibility
@ReaderRagfish Thanks!
@Tantani @Strumpan I don't want to support 3ds because they got rid of so many features on it. (screenshots, miiverse, notepass, messaging) That's why I'd rather get a DS. Can't remove what was never there. I like taking screenshots, so it's not something I can ignore, knowing they once had it.
@Morrow
Also, I have both DS Lite, DSi, N3DS and N2DS and for DS games the colors look less washed out on the DS Lite than all the others.. However my hands have gotten too big to use the DS Lite over time without no hand grip attached... Plus the DS Lite is insanely cheap. Not that the DSi can't be found for cheap now. One benefit to it is that a very few games have enhancements, like Pokémon Black 2/White 2 allowing wifi through WPA connection, and btw there's a fully functioning wfc replacement up and running that just requires some adjustments in the settings.
So happy emulation preserves. Now to play fire emblem shadow dragon and save mid-battle, combine low durability weapons and rotate classes.
It seems stupid to remove the DS as the 3DS is backwards compatible, and DSiWare games continue to be available via the 3DS eShop.
Nintendo Website: "Let's shift our focus away from our older consoles and hone in on the current generation of Switch games"
MyNintendo Website: "Hey, you want Kirby's Epic Yarn for 30% off on WiiU? I also got Triforce Heroes if you need it"
@Desrever Well stated. Where's the Retweet button?
@Liam_Doolan Am I missing something? I just went to the online "Game Store" and can still filter by Wii U. I was wondering how they were going to make this work when they often link to the store from My Nintendo Rewards...
https://www.nintendo.com/games/game-guide/#filter/:q=&dFR[platform][0]=Wii%20U
Perhaps it was a fluke and they put it back up today? Though I would wonder if it was still a sign of things to come and was just prematurely done by accident...
Obligatory why I'm against online and digital only..
I would imagine at this point, the Wii U is only hanging on for the last of the Shovel Knight releases. It is not surprising however that Nintendo is removing products that you can technically no longer purchase new in stores.
@FiveDigitLP The Wii U information page was removed, not the games.
https://www.nintendo.com/wiiu/what-is-wiiu/
@gaga64 Yeah I don't think this means they're gonna shut down the Wii U eShop without warning. I think the Wii U eShop uses the same infrastructure as the 3DS one so they'll probably shut down at the same time, which I think will be several years from now since the 3DS is still getting a few new games.
@Morrow you might want to hurry before they get too expensive
@Liam_Doolan Ah, my bad. I realize now that when you linked to the Games Store you were referring to the other DS and Wii games. Thanks for clarifying!
@SetupDisk Everything that happens is not a sign that the Switch will be getting something.
Sarcastic Example: 'I had donuts for breakfast, I wonder if that means that the Switch is getting a Donut Shop Sim.' /s
Sad DSi and Wii nostalgia noises
@Liam_Doolan
looks about right to me.
Just for fun, I removed "what-is-wiiu/" from the Wii U info address. I was taken to the Switch home page instead. Heaven forbid we even know one thing about the Wii U! XD
https://www.nintendo.com/wiiu/
@Morrow if DS games are your main target then I would also avoid 3ds/2ds because of the blurry graphics, it's not huge problem but an actual DS/DSi will look sooo much better.
Removing the Wii and Wii U stuff makes sense, but removing some of the DS stuff poses a head scratcher; while it's true that most of those games aren't available anymore, the 3DS is still backwards compatible. Heck, I just ordered a DS game off of Amazon.
...Time goes on I suppose.
when/if the wii u eshop goes down, will we still be able to play games purchased on it? i was considering buying one just to get minish cap but not sure anymore.
"This neeever happened! OOooooOOoWWowooO"
@Crono1973
What an ignorant comment.
Seeing this news reminds me, I miss the master game list Nintendo of America's site had. Yeah, it had basic info like title, release, and publisher info, it was kind of cool Nintendo had an official list of all games released on their systems..
@Sabrewing ©2002 😂
@SetupDisk Even though the Wii Shop Channel lasted for such a long time there we loads more people who owned a Wii so sometimes I do worry they will close the Wii U Shop a lot sooner as it wasn't very popular. Here's hoping the Wii U Shop will be around for quite some time.
@AlienX Yeah, I'll prob do that
I never really found the official Nintendo website that useful. If I want info on old games, I find sites like Nintendo Life or even Amazon much more informative. The real tragedy was the closure of the Wii e-shop. It's virtual console selection was a goldmine.
@retro_player_22
Whoa! I didnt realize that mario advance had the ereader levels!
Wondering what else I should pick up before they kill the VC
@AlienX
really?
@Strumpan I agree. The 3DS is still one of my favorite portable all-in-one consoles of all time. If the rumored Switch Mini was actually a new iteration of the 3DS with larger screen and upgraded power, I'd buy one in a heart beat.
I love my Switch, but the 3DS with it's clam shell design is 100% more portable than the Switch. I want a switch with clam shell and dual screen design.
@Arbor
absolutely. I still have my og wii with world of goo, and mario kart 64. Also I think we will get ample warning when they decide to shut it down.
Eh "let the past die" ?
I think its very bad business.
well thats the end of a generation...
