Super Bomberman R may have a few fans sitting on the fence right now, but the more we see of the game the more we're looking forward to enlisting a selection of friends or family members for some pyrotechnic multiplayer action come March 3rd.
Konami has ramped up the anticipation by releasing the entire introduction sequence for the game's single-player portion, as well as granting Japanese magazine Famitsu permission to livestream a multiplayer session from Nico Nico Tokaigi.
The livestream also contains some footage of the Switch console itself, which is shown without the Joy-Con controllers attached - giving you a clear view of just how tiny it is.
Let us know what you think of this footage - and Bomberman R in general - by posting a comment below.

I think I'd rather have bomber girl.
I wish Konami can revive the futuristic theme for Bomberman, just like Custom Batler Bomberman NDS.
I'll wait for reviews before buying this. Never played Bomberman so I want to make sure I'll get my money's worth and I want to make sure there is enough content. Loving the 2D cutscenes though. Full of colourful personality!
On a Side Note: Suprised to see Konami make a decent looking game rather than another themed pachinko machine! XD
Lol at the other Bombermans.
Their attitudes looks like said " Should we save the world again ? Ah, whatever..."
Btw, I noticed that they were talking in Bomberman language for text speech.
...No Bombergirl gameplay? TwT
I would love this, but the price is just silly! will pick up in a few weeks when price is closer to £25/£30
Love Bomberman on order already so much fun playing the previous Bomberman games I hope nothing has changed and going by the bids doesn't look like it has had GREAT ...😁
Looks pretty fun, and it'll be nice to have SOMETHING other than Zelda as a launch day title, but $50 seems way too much for what looks like an eShop game.
Then again, Konami, at least I don't have to buy the prologue for $50, the game for $60, and I don't have to take my prizes across the street to cash them in....
Can't see this been a huge seller not with everyone playing zelda and mario kart around the corner. Could be wrong but doubt it. Can't see where u would find the time to play it tbh. Also it needs to be cheaper but it will have sales though thx to it been a launch title just not even a million though
Nice! Im really digging the retro style!
Oke at first i wasnt confinced but know, i really want it. Now i am hoping for a sidescroller mega man remake.
I gotta say, the in-game visuals look very proto-typie and unpolished.
I'm remember as a Kid getting a Gameboy Colour with Pocket Bomberman and Tetris DX for my Birthday ... the idea of a New Nintendo Handheld with Super Bomberman R and Puyo Puyo Tertis early in it's lifespan fills me with all kinds of Nostalgia. Can't Wait.
I will probably pick this up at some point, but I might wait for a price drop first - it's not like I'll have any time to play it around launch anyway, what with Zelda and I am Setsuna on day one!
Looks great - a definite buy for me at some point.
Yup, it's overpriced.
But it's also the 2nd most appealing Switch game at launch. And for anyone who played Bomberman on a past system will know that it's a lot of fun, especially in multiplayer. I'm getting it.
super nintendo memories flooding back to me... my cousins thrashing me on this game because i had no idea what to do lol.
Personally liked the intro scene. It had that Saturday Morning vibe and I liked it. And lol at the non-white Bombers
I'm also not concerned about the price at all. I mean, 50 stages with each differing objective, bosses, unlockables, and even a multiplayer mode that looks good enough (if not as good as Bomberman Blast's). Heck, even if the game's price tag doesn't justify, I paid for worse.
I'll get this game in 2020.
@UK-Nintendo Why ?
@Equinox Me too! And people are calling me mad
Bombergirls over this tbh. Also, #ScrewKonami
@Joeynator3000 same
I've never played a Bomberman game before. I've never really seen the appeal, but I've been trying to get hyped about this one and look at it as an opportunity to get into the franchise. However, neither one of the videos make it look appealing, either. It just seems kind of boring. I want to give it a chance, but at $50 and the not so appealing game play, I'm probably going to pass. Plus, I'll be too busy with BotW & I am Setsuna for quite some time (also getting the 3 Tomorrow Corporation games — I love those games)
And about explosion patterns — are they random? They don't make any sense to me.
@Manjushri The screen is turning off; what you're seeing is the reflection of their TV screen. Was confusing me at first, too.
They shot themselves in the foot by making everyone loose all interesting in this game when they announced Bombergirl
The multiplayer look like a blast. Just like in the past.
Watched the video at work and I got a look when I laughed after an out player hit another in the head. Same with the red bomberman getting stuffed into the ship.
I need Switch in my life...
I like Bomberman but it's crazy expensive for what it is. It should be no more than €20, €25 tops for a retail copy.
Price issue aside, Konami has one of the more appealing Switch games for launch with this. I know they can't expect huge sales, but they'll benefit from little launch competition so it could do pretty well for them. Hopefully, their expectations are realistic.
Never played bomberman before so this may be the game for me to jump into.
I want this, but I don't $50 want this.
I'll buy it at $30-$35.
Only game I'm interested in other than Zelda for day 1.
@MrGawain $10 more for Zelda, and third party devs like Konami wonder why their games don't sell well on Nintendo hardware. Konami will need to think long and hard about why this doesn't sell well on the Switch. I mean the last Bomberman we had was Bomberman Land and then Blitz on Wii and it was priced at $19.99 shortly after launch. Granted Bomberman is a Hudson Soft title that Konami had acquired the rights to. This game screams budget title.
@KidRad Yeah it's sad that I have justified getting Mario Kart 8 Deluxe while I can't really justify this game at launch. I'm sure there are some that can, but the cost of entry is a bit high for what is on offer. I'll wait for a $30 or so price point.
@sdelfin Yes this game looks great and the only 4 player co-op game at launch. There looks to be an okay amount of content but it just feels like price gouging. There are obviously some who disagree and will buy this, and if the game sells well I'll eat my words. But I plan on buying Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on release as the battle mode, extra characters, items, and rock solid mobile/ docked gameplay are appealing to me. But there are many who don't think so and have been very vocal about not buying that game either. It would be nice if a digital version could be offered at something like $10 cheaper at launch as their is obviously a production cost to the cartridges that returns on a digital library could offset for Konami. Thanks for letting me grumble some more about this.
@Nico07 I had a good laugh on your last sentence. Glad I could help. For the record, I'm in total agreement on the price being too high for that game in this climate. I think the pricing is going to have an impact. The lack of games at and around launch, however, could help to counteract that some.
@KidRad Yeah if you missed on on the Wii U version you are in for a treat as the change of form to the arena style Battle Mode in the first release was disappointing to many. It's prominent return will be a great addition as well as the dual item boxes. Plus the sheer number of courses and DLC courses offered are incredible too.
And then hopefully as this isn't a direct sequel to the Wii U Mario Kart 8, that Mario Kart 9 will release on the Switch. Though I would suspect this likely won't happen for another year or two.
Picking I up for the multiplayer. Bomberman has always excelled there - and that's where you get your money out of this game. I just hope they have included enough stages.
@Nico07 Wasn't Bomberman Blitz a multiplayer only DSiWare game (a budget one too if I remember right)? Also, Bomberman Land was a minigame collection.
It's been awhile since there's been a full fledged Bomberman game with a proper single player mode so it wouldn't be all too surprising if people pick it up.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy This is pretty much what I paid for it, between a coupon and a pre-order discount at Best Buy. $30 feels exactly right, though this game may be the one that convinces me to buy an extra set of Joycons, so my wife and I can play this game with our neighbors!
I loved super bomberman 3. Does this have the kangeroos? Will get once price drops. Currently £40 at grainger games and the game collection.
That's it, I'm sold. Pre-ordering this and a Pro Controller.
I'm having a real problem with the price of this and other Switch titles. A lot of these games are eshop titles with triple A price tags
The game's aesthetic is so disjointed: The cutscenes look OTT kiddie, "Nickelodeon-ish", and "Flash-the-vector-program-ish", much more so than the original cartoon/comic-style art from the 90s that I actually really liked, and the in-game visuals actually look kinda "gritty" and "realistic" at times, with certain shader effects that just look strange, which I don't like for the most part.
Why couldn't they have just made the game look like the original classic cartoon/comic style but in 3D, and had the cutscenes match the in-game visuals too?
Ya know, more like this kind of thing:

And even this:

It is an order or magnitude better than what you've went for with Super Bomberman R imo.
I just can't see spending $55 on this game.
Yeah, I don't think that I'll bother with this unless it drops to say, $10 or so. Nintendo Land on Wii U was cheaper, and included somewhat similar style of gameplay in the Luigi's Mansion mode, but that was merely 1/12 of the package.
And I can't stand those bored-adults-phoning-in-their-lines "voice actors" who have absolutely zero passion for their work.
It looks enjoyable enough, though I still don't see how a $50 price tag is justified. I do love me some Bomberman. Maybe this will prompt Nintendo to port Bomberman 64, Second Attack, and Hero over.
Since I am waiting a little while on the Switch, but wanted some Bomberman action decided to get Bomberman Blast on the Wii U... technically the Wii. Went to the Wii eshop on my Wii U and downloaded Bomberman blast for $10. The online play doesn't work anymore, I just wanted to play it with my friends and kids. It supports up to 8 local play and there are a crazy amount of game options and modes. And graphically, it holds up pretty well.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Now thats a good way to make Konami lose money! good thinking.
Happy to pay $50 for this because I'm old enough to know that Bomberman is crazy fun. The fact that Nintendo, Hudson Soft, and Konami came together to make this game justifies the price IMO.
30fps Bomberman and for being a simplistic looking one at that is already unacceptable to me and I wouldn't even spend $20 on it.
I'll hold out for a possible Steam port of the new Bombergirl arcade game.
Some people are concerned about the graphics and price. Im only worried about surviving on a level with a destructable floor!
This Bomberman game will be great. Yes it is not jaw dropping graphics but it's not Act Zero. I also do not think videos are going to show it justice. This game will most likely have vibrant colors on your tv and on the console.
It is Bomberman not 1,2 Switch. I like the idea of 1, 2 Switch but I don't think there will be alot of substance to it.
This is basically Bomberman going back to its roots. I just wish the louies (kangaroos) from Super Bomberman 94 were in this game!
I'm honestly super excited for this game, and I'm glad to see Nintendo Life covering it!! It's kind of disappointing to see others aren't so into it though (and even more disappointing to see some prefer Bombergirl, but that's another story and to each their own). This is the only other Switch exclusive aside from 1-2-Switch at launch, so it's unfortunate people don't see its potential. I wish Konami would promote this game more too; then maybe people might understand its full appeal.
If your friend circle is not silly enough to play 1-2-Switch, this game is a much more comfortable alternative. Similar to 1-2-Switch, explaining Bomberman's controls and how to play is relatively simple. It's family-friendly too, so you can play with your children or they can play with their friends. Also, the levels shouldn't take too long to complete, so you can play in short bursts if you're the busy type (as I am). This game is perfect for the Switch, so it's truly unfortunate to see that it's not gaining as much traction as it should.
So the name's Buggler! And here I was thinking it was Burglar. Pffft.
So hyped for this!
Have to say, that Bomberman game definitely doesn't look like a full price game.
@Ernest_The_Crab Sorry meant to say Bomberman Blast (not Blitz, it's been a few years) that was released back in 2008.
