Slowly and surely third-parties are emerging with a range of Nintendo Switch accessories. Hori is prominent among these, even to the point that it has officially licensed micro SD cards on the way in Japan; that said, the range long available to pre-order in North America has been slow to come to the UK, for example.
The Hori range of Switch accessories has now popped up on Amazon UK, adding some tempting options for upcoming owners in the country. Product pages and details are below (please note that these are affiliate links, so a portion of a purchase may go to Nintendo Life):
- Hori Switch LAN Adapter - £26.99
- Hori Switch Tough Case - £14.99
- Hori Switch Premium Screen Filter - £14.99
- Hori Switch Screen Filter - £8.99
- Hori Switch Compact Play Stand - £9.99

- Hori Switch Game Card Case (Clear) - £8.99
We've produced a few guides to Nintendo Switch extras, too, if you're looking for micro SD cards and various accessories.
Are any of you UK Switch fans tempted by these?

27 pounds for something that should be built into the switch anyway, great deal
I'm hoping that my classic Wii LAN adaptor will work, since it was okay with the Wii U.. fingers crossed the same happens for the Switch.
I'm going to assume my LAN adapter for the Wii will work for this as well since it's the same USB to Ethernet setup. That's how it worked for the Wii U.
I pre-ordered the case. For £14.99 you can't go wrong. And in future I'll get a game case, but when I'm only getting 1 retail game at launch, I'm not in dire need right now...
I'm eyeing that compact yet sturdy case. Seems perfect for the most portable switch experience I can buy.
Wii U production has officially ended.
The Compact Play Stand is a must-buy for me. I can imagine myself wanting the play away from the TV, but also wanting to charge the console while using the Pro Controller. Thankfully, this stand makes it possible.
@wiggleronacid It likely will, but I can't recall if that Wii LAN adapter is USB 1.1 or USB 2.0. Either way, I wouldn't grab the "Switch" LAN adapter, not at that price.
I pre-ordered the Tough Case, Premium Screen Filter and Compact Play Stand a few days ago through Amazon. Can't go wrong with Hori.
Personally, I see no reason for LAN when it supports 802.11ac
Where did the arcade stick go??? I mean, we are getting beat em ups and arcade archives etc...SHOW ME THE STICK dagnabit.
I am just waiting for the Official Nintendo Switch Play & Charge Car Charger.
@GrailUK It's coming
@JamesR Not everyone has access to stable wi-fi. Even if you believe you do, a wired connection is infinitely more stable.
@kamikazilucas I reckon <10% of people would use the LAN port even if it had one built-in. And 99% of those would also have Wi-Fi.
I don't even know if my PS4 has a LAN socket, and it sits 30cm away from a router with spare ports.
@Discostew I think it supported both 1.1 and 2.0 actually.
@kamikazilucas So how would it have fit in a console that size? The smallest Ethernet adaptor for the Wii and the Wii U is already a couple of times thicker than the console itself. If the intention is to put it in the base, not enough people would use the base anyways as the console is perceived as a portable at the moment.
Also, the Vita did not have an Ethernet port. The Vita is also going to be the device that draws the most number of comparisons, as yet again, the public is viewing the Switch as a portable.
@Skunkfish everything but nintendo consoles have lan ports
The LAN adapter will be interesting. Wii U was not gigabit and was then slower than the 802.11n, but latency was much better with LAN adapter. I really hope it is USB3 with gigabit. I also note in the description on amazon it talks about its usefulness for 4K! Did I miss the release of the 4K Switch? 😝
@Ernest_The_Crab so what no one would use it it should be there like how its there for everything else, the cheapest laptop has a ethernet port, the xbox 360 has a ethernet port, we shouldn't have to pay 30 pounds more for it
@kamikazilucas So should the Switch just cost $30 more and everyone who won't want/need Ethernet will have to part with an additional $30? The casual gamer will hardly want Ethernet and absolutely should not have to pay for it, but for those who competitively play games like the upcoming Splatoon now have the ability to chose a better online experience. Basically you dislike the consumers freedom of choice....that's naughty!
@acheater go be stupid somewhere else, you don't realize that 30 dollar laptops have ethernet ports and you really think it would cost them 30 bucks to put it in the dock
@Yorumi Would you not agree that adding the port may be less to do with cost than keeping the for factor as it is to incorporate what they already have? Same reason major Computer manufacturers have started to remove such features and offer an adapter? The adapter itself I agree is over priced, to do right by the consumer Nintendo should offer a home brand for significantly less for the sake of customer satisfaction but I do believe the strategy they are employing is a long term better one for consumers....
Does anybody know if that Hori case fits the Switch with the Joy Cons attached? If so, yummy!!!
I hope they're bringing an arcade stick since Ultra Street Fighter II, a new Blazblue game and at least 5 Neo Geo games are coming to Switch. Hori makes my favourite arcade sticks
Edit: according to a supposedly leaked document, Hori will release their Real Arcade Pro stick for Switch, I hope it's true because those sticks are fantastic(k)!
Yeah, I'd presume so! But haven't seen any pictures of it as of yet. But ultimately prefer it to the official Nintendo one as it has the 3 game spaces!! BoTw in the chamber, snipperclips obviously is digital, 1,2 Switch and MK8 deluxe in the case! Boom!
March is gonna be an expensive month! I used the links (Nintendo Life*) to preorder a Switch compact play stand and a Game card case.
Nintendo life might get a little bit of cash for the links?, whatever you guys make put it towards something nice
Can I not just get a non-nintendo ethernet port, which would likely be cheaper? I've never used ethernet in my life but I know I'll need it when I go back to Uni in September.
Especially when I'm going to be paying for online, I will want to be able to play it online.
Not sure I fully understand the difference between the two screen protectors. "Triple layered and brushed"...wha?
@Nik-Davies The one I'm using now is non-Nintendo, so you can indeed go that route.
@DarkRula Thanks. I think I'll save myself £20 then
(Looking at Clear case of Switch game card box)
Yay....! (Yoshi Wolly World's sound effect)
I got case with my Zelda preorder, but the tough case is pretty nice looking at a reasonable price. I will wait and see what some of the members here have to say about it, but it is on my radar.
I don't know why anyone needs to buy a LAN is it faster than Wi-fi, Silly question I know but is it?
I'm waiting on a range of official HORI Switch toilet paper priced at £50 for 12 rolls because when you're sitting on the loo playing this it won't be authentic enough without some branded loo roll to wipe your backside. It just wouldn't feel the same.
I've an official Wii LAN adapter that more than serves the purpose and even if I didn't there are much cheaper options than buying their overpriced accessory. You can get a generic one for around £5.
@Emperor-Palpsy Agreed. I'm looking forward to the adapter.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE LOL!
@Yorumi Thank You for your answer, I think I will stick with Wi-fi it saves on leads running all over the place. Which is some thing I like to avoid.
@acheater Why would a console need gigabit ethernet, specially one probably without local media center features? Unless you have 100+ Mbs internet (and even then), wired is better for a more stable connection, that's for sure, but I I fail to see the importance of gigabit ethernet in this.
Nintendo maintains that the future is wireless. Ultimately the absense of an enthernet port on the dock doesn't bother me, as I don't keep that sort of cabling handy in my living room.
But seeing how it's a seperate thing like that, specifically meant to stay in place and NOT move around like the console unit itself, it really could easily have been included.
On the other hand, a third party USB/LAN adapter costs very little and is reported to have worked fine with Nintendo systems of the past.
Just checked out Shopto and they have a series of new official cases I haven't seen before including a grey Zelda themed one and a nice compact suitcase that holds the entire switch console including the cables and dock.
@GrailUK still no Tekken 7 announced for switch. No marvel vs Capcom 4, no injustice 2. No king of fighters!
Until I see games announced I am not Going anywhere near that arcade stick
@Yorumi
I've always had rock solid wifi and never felt I was one of the people causing lag in matches.
But then I thought about it and I realized the only way to truly eliminate lag is if everyone agrees to use a wired connection, even the people who think they have rock solid connections, like me. So I decided I wanted to use ethernet but the router is down stairs and needed down there, and I don't have anywhere upstairs to put another one (nor do I want to buy another modem/router). So I make do.
But it would make things a lot more reliable especially with a gaming PC running on a wireless dongle
@Miketeevee76
After realizing how awesome the Sheika Slate Switch case is (even has a handle which I love, 12 cartridge slots and a wire mesh big enough for AC adapter and other accessories) I cancelled both my other cases I'd preordered.
This case is just too awesome not to use

@kobashi100 Well, there IS a KoF coming to the Switch :https://www.engadget.com/2017/01/13/nintendo-switch-neo-geo-games-waku-waku-7-kof/
...but you were probably asking for XIV
Accessories, accessories, accessories!
@Miketeevee76 Thanks for this, I've been waiting for a UK retailer to stock the Big Ben Switch cases! Now I just need to cancel my Hori Tough Case order...
@JaxonH that is indeed an awesome case and I'm really disappointed that Nintendo didn't include it in the limited edition of Botw here in the U.K., I'd love to know why tbh as I'd have been all over it.
@Miketeevee76
Oh you guys aren't getting this case in the Special Edition? That sucks. That really sucks...
I guess being region free importing is always an option now though, of course it's long been sold out at this point
@Loui no worries, I'm going have to cancel my original official case order but first I have to decide whether to get the plain version or the Zelda edition. I'd love that little suit case too but I don't think my funds will extend that far, March is going to be a costly month!
@JaxonH it was too late when I discovered the differences, like you said they were all sold out. I checked on eBay and the prices were ridiculous, especially with shipping on top. I love the case but not that much!
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy Where's your sense of whimsical synchronicity, you should be in here.
@WolfyWardark
Logged in to say the same thing!
I can sort of understand the console itself might not have room for an ethernet port (probably have to make the console slightly more thicker to fit it in), but not having a built in ethernet port on the dock itself is ridiculous. Adding it shouldn't cost that much, and it might justify the price of the dock (nah I'm kidding, that price is still criminal even if they added one in).
@JaxonH You couldn't figure out a way to run a wire from downstairs to upstairs? My router is on my 2nd floor in a closet, I ran a cable with a splitter at both ends thru a hole in the wall, down next to the waste pipe, along the basement ceiling, down thru the wall around the electrical box and out behind the PS4 and Wii U. I had it plugged into another router for awhile but I needed the electrical outlet for the PS4.
Nice case, good choice canceling the other ones.
@rjejr
Ya it's the slickest case I've ever seen. Screw all those other cases, this here is all one needs.
Besides, it saves another $20 purchase for a separate case (x2 for both Switches so $40 plus tax so $45)
Dude. I've been playing Tales of Berseria and I love it. I skipped the CE cause when I got Zesteria CE it went half price within weeks, lots of extra stock. So I saw Berseria CE on BestBuy with GCU discount and said nah, I'll wait.
Well, it sells out in half a day. Turns out its limited to 10k print run. Ya. So I break down and just ordered one from eBay for an extra $80 above MSRP. Used $20 eBay Bucks to keep it in the $50 extra range.
Well, the SAME NIGHT I order it, the CE comes BACK IN STOCK at BestBuy with GCU discount.... and I miss it. Next day it comes back in stock at GameStop! So I grab one there just cause. I'll have to sell the other one I just bought for same price I paid and hope to just lose out on the eBay seller fees.
My luck... you wouldn't believe
@rjejr Can't someone enjoy the evening with their family in peace?
In all seriousness though, that LAN adaptor is way overpriced. I got my Wii adaptor for $10, not $30! Get your act together HORI! Yeah, I'm usually the guy that thinks things aren't overpriced, but this is highway robbery.
@nab1 I guess it may be the way I do things but I do have a gigabit connection and I do not buy physical games, only eshop so the flexibility to not need storage for my entire game library (future proofing on many titles here) to be able to re download a game utilising the most of my internet connection would be ideal. Although my router is AC the port aggregation on my Switch (network switch not the console) is much better at directing traffic than the router.
@Yorumi fair point on the other components like the controller, I do agree, bit greedy but I guess the market will dictate if it was a good or bad call. Just in defence of the LAN adapter tho, it's not Nintendo peddling it, just a third party filling a gap in the market...
@wiggleronacid Isn't the Wii LAN Adaptor like 10 Mbit/s? The WiFi will be way faster than that.
This is usb 2.0. Hori will release a usb 3.0 one right around when Nin updates the dock to open up its 3.0 intake thus causing this one to drop in price. So I would wait on the 3.0 usb or if you already have one then you are good for when the update happens.
@JamesR I'll be using the Wi-Fi, I'm glad they made it good for a change.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE : That'll go great with one of those $100 Switch waters.
@G0dlike The official case also has room for a few carts, according to the Japanese Nintendo site. Check out these pictures from the official site:
https://www.nintendo.co.jp/hardware/switch/accessories/img/pic_03_02.png
Notice the flap holding up the Switch tablet in the second pic? The official case looks like it has the same game-storage flap as the Hori Tough Case.
Ha ha ha ha, no, Hori, pfft, screw that. I'll get cheaper, but equally good products, thank you.
@burninmylight Yes.. ^0^;;;
The case and screen protectors are all I'd be interested in, but the accessory set from Nintendo themselves seems just as good... and better value.
I might have been more tempted by the premium screen protector if the Switch used a stylus like the DS/3DS or gamepad, due to the additional scratch protection, but I doubt it will be as necessary when just using fingers.
@Mega_Yarn_Poochy Please apologize to your family for me, tell them the crazy guy on the Internet won't bother you again, I just got caught up in the moment.
@JaxonH ok, I get 2 Switches, but do you really need 2 cases? Can't you just leave 1 at home and take one with you? When are you going to need to carry around 2 at the same time?
Well I'm sure you have your reasons, I'm going to bed.
@JamesR I would tend to agree on the 802.11ac, but wireless connection speeds can flucuate and vary with range. So a dedicated LAN adapter in some situations would be ideal, though I would also assume a more generic adapter would work fine.
In relation to the LAN adapter, please don't waste ur money on it; there r much better options. Anker has a great one for around half the price, or for a little more one that's also a USB 3.0 hub. Heck even the amazon basics one is USB 3.0 w/ gigabit at literally half the price of hori's.
I can see the need for a LAN adapter. If you dwell in an apartment complex rather than the suburbs, there may be 20-30 wifi connections competing for 2.4Ghz bandwidth. Sometimes the timeouts can be excruciating. I might get 2Mbps on the wifi, 25Mbps on the LAN. Sometimes web browsers hang. Heck I've seen local congestion get so bad that PS3 controllers are borderline unusable unless you plug it into the console. Lost controller packets can be devastating.
And Bluetooth is a bit more robust than wifi simply because the packets transmit at a lower baud rate. It is worse because my fiance has an older laptop with no Wireless N connection. Even with N, most cheaper routers don't use the 5Ghz band which is vastly less crowded than 2.4Ghz.
If you live in suburbia with your own house, you absolutely don't have to deal with those issues, and depending on how many devices you actively use in your house, you may never get degraded performance. Something as simple as someone streaming video one room over can be devastating on the lag.
@Yorumi actually it's not always better in everything. What if your router isn't in the same room as your TV? A wired connection would be a bad idea also wired connections using Ethernet degrade fast over long distance.
Not paying that for the LAN Adaptor. Wired is better though, no question. I used to use Wi-fi but wiring my consoles has brought a significant increase in speed (haven't got the figures to hand but it was about 20%).
@samuelvictor
Thanks for the thorough explanation!
I'm curious as to how the glass ones are easier to put on without getting dust underneath?
I used the standard hoya protectors for both my 3dsxl and wii u. Despite my best efforts, I still got bits of crud under them, even with Hoyas special application method.
@Setery10 Ethernet works great over cat5 for 100meters. Farther with better cable.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_over_twisted_pair
It's great to have an opinion, but it disolves to nothing when faced with facts.
@Skunkfish That's just criminal.
I'm getting a USB-RJ45 adapter, but not Hori's expensive version. This one works as well https://www.amazon.es/dp/B00MYTSN18 (gigabit > wii/wiiu adapter).
Also, the stand is a MUST. I always bring my switch to work, so I can play at "lunch". I need something safer that the weak stand of the switch
