Despite its memetastic name, this one really nails the aesthetics and atmosphere. Highly interested in this one.
I don't usually watch letsplays, but I might make an exception here just for a chance to see YouTubers lament how a fictional company they invested in won't steadily increase its profits. "Goddammit, you wusses, what's with these R&D and QA spendings? Just sell this slightly repackaged product now and fix the issues sometime later!"
running on the "don't buy things named after/relying on memes" rule here
You could just actually trade in the stock/crypto market. It would be a similar experience but you actually make money. Not financial advice but you can paper trade first and see how it goes before putting money in. This is what I do for a living now.
I hesisted clicking on the trailer but after watching it, I actually liked it (just don't ask me why!) I suppose it remains to be seen how shallow this game is. If the name comes from a meme, then their research probably comes from resetera forums and Michael Pachter.
I was - despite having zero interest (no pun) in whatever is going on in the finance sector - always deeply fascinated by the NES game Wall Street Kid. I will check this out too.
I bought GME hard and I currently reside on the moon.
@Ironcore “but you actually make money”
I’m glad you’re doing well out of it, but I’m not sure this is guaranteed…
Let me guess, she removes more of her clothes, the better your investments are?
@Maxz it’s not guaranteed but if you aren’t greedy you can almost certainly protect yourself from any loses (certainly big ones) you need to be calm. You need to not ever panic. Don’t ever invest money you need for something else and you need to pay attention. Having a set of your own rules and sticking to them is the way forward. Don’t get caught up in hype and break your own rules.
Wow, I was JUST thinking about Wall Street Kid for NES yesterday! Will have to keep an eye on this one.
@Maxz Its absolutely not guaranteed, youre right. Thats why to do paper trading etc first. You will never know whats about to happen in the markets just like in a coin toss, you will never know, its about mitigation, probability and risk management. I recommend everyone at least looks into it. Its a great way to hedge against inflation.
@Stocksy This guy gets it.
The Stock Market??? Oh God...
"Do you remember being a kid? Do you remember playing Nintendo? What kinds of things were you interested in? Comic books, video games...uh...the Stock Market??? Yeah, do you think any kid playing this game gives a **** about the ******* Stock market?! Just wha...why? Why make a game that has anything to do with stocks, taxes or politics? You just don't do that! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?" - AVGN (Episode 50) Superman
Please let be a drug war add on !
@GregamanX Doesn't he mention Wall Street Kid in that episode? Lol
@GregamanX I'd rather play Taxman.
hodl for next 3 decades at least or ngmi.
I'm not actually buying this, but I love that it exists.
@GregamanX Excellent post, take my <3
I have no use for this. I have a WeBull account. lol
@GregamanX I dunno dude, I mean when I was a kid I used to play a popular city planning game!
The average age of videogame players is in the 30’s now as well, and in my experience due to crypto buzz, financial independence and teens making a fortune with apps/TikTok/twitch I think young people might be into this, they all seem a lot more interested in business and finance than I was at that age!
Is this game about stocks or boners 😂
@Eddy9000 I was only quoting a youtube show called Angry Video Game Nerd. It was made as a joke, as I found this article a funny coincidence as to what he said.
It looks quite cursor-driven… would be curious to know how it plays using a controller if anyone’s given it a crack.
Why do people try to immortalize memes like this? They always age so poorly and are so specific to the audience that originally experienced them. I havent even seen where this one came from but saw it referenced in a youtube video briefly out of context.
Just come up with a memorable title that people will actually connect with.

This is where the whome meme comes from.
"Meme games" tend to age like milk. I can't imagine this game even being a thought in anyone's head 5 years from now.
I'll pass. I'll use that money to invest in real stocks. At least 5 years from now, choosing a profitable stock in real life will still be relevant and useful.
Also.. the fan service of this game where your assistant strips her clothes over time / depending on your relationship with her is pretty cringe.. But alas, with a game called "Stonks" I'm not surprised.
@GregamanX
Instantly had this in my head as well, great episode!
Nintendo already has a simulator with Turnip selling/buying in AC.
@Stocksy “almost certainly protect yourself from losses if” is the antithesis of “you will make money”
@stipey check out Hypnospace Outlaw - that’s al cursor and it runs great on the Switch (and is an awesome game - you play the admin of a late 90’s era geocities type community)
@DevinRex unbelievably cringe but I mean I guess that’s wish fulfillment “i am rich and wanted”
@GannonBanned / @DevinRex think it's more of an ode to strip mahjong arcade games and the like, which is still embarassing, but it fills a niche
