In all fairness tho, i dont blame him. I ordered a Series S yesterday as a gamepass machine after vowing 7 years ago that i would never own another xbox.

I was lucky to get one last year just before Christmas, when my local store got a small shipment. Was sold out again within a couple hours.

At the right place and right time kind of thing.

It's really a beast of a console and pairs well with my 4K OLED TV.
But the very best is that all games I already had for my XBox One X and XBOX360 with save files could be transferred right over to the new console.

@Kidfunkadelic83 I picked up the series s last year for the exact same purpose as you and this last year alone Ive played to a finish more games than I ever bough and played on ps3-5 and the wii u and switch combined. And theres a whole bunch of more games Ive checked out but didnt fall for.
I know this is a nintendo site but since the article is xbox related Im just gonna say it. Gamepass is awesome for expanding my gaming horizon and finding games I probably wouldnt have bought and thus missed out on.
Dont worry, I also love my Switch and PS5. I use those strictly for exclusives now. Xbox for everything else on top of their own exclusives.

I'm also thinking of picking up a Series X just for GamePass.

That makes him the most important thing ever so if I could only grasp at that spark I’d be up there with him. Series X/S is doing considerably pretty well in japan compared to XB One. Gamepass is a killer service, that only Microsoft could afford looking at the big picture. I dont know if it would be good for small developers, probably not but wish Nintendo could offer something similar. New AAA PS5 games cost like 80$, for sure its bad for the consumer

Not thinking about upgrading right away as my PS4 has mileage yet but I think I’d go with the Series X for Gamepass and backwards compatibility. When it comes to exclusive games, Nintendo’s are really the only ones that pique my interest.

Well now we know the identity of one of the ten people who own a SeXbox in Japan.

It's finally got some quality console exclusives ppl are hyped to play. Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite. I bought on Steam (gotta have Gyro aiming otherwise I can't stand Halo) but many ppl are still sleeping on gyro.

That said, can we get a lengthy article next time he buys a pair of socks? Fruit of the Loom, or Hanes? I'm sure we're all dying to find out...

Good for him, but not everything Sakurai does is newsworthy because he isn't working on Smash Bros Ultimate DLC anymore.

It's a great machine. I'd love to see MarioKart 9 be more Forza Horizon open world over the mushroom kingdom. The upgrade path from older games is brilliant, especially compared to nintendo.

The series S/X are great but only for gamepass, and how long is this "samurai does this" going to go on for? Just create a seperate website with news dedicated to him and call it SakuraiLife

Lucky man, I couldn’t obtain an Xbox Series X since launch. I think it’s easier for an average 70 year old man to find a 25 year old woman to successfully date than finding an Xbox Series X right now.

I found 3 series X at launch so sold two plus my one x. Then bought two ps5s at launch and sold the extra plus my ps4 pro. So i came away with 2 next gen consoles without spending an extra dollar and had enough left over for a few games and a bottle of scotch. Sucks people are still having trouble a year later and worse that ps5 production is dropping a million units in 2022.

Fighter Pass 3 so far has 2 confirmed fighters: yesterday Epona and now Master Chief.

I still am not sure myself which I am wanting to go with this generation. There are positives and negatives to both of the consoles this generation so I just have to figure out what I want to give up. I don't like the overall aesthetics of the PS5 but at the same time I could just get a gaming PC when I decide I want to play some Xbox games, and still be able to keep playing some of my favorite franchises on PlayStation 5. With all of Xbox's acquisitions though, a good chunk of my favorite franchises are now on Microsoft's side. It will still be a good long while before I buy one due to how hard it is to get one right now. I won't pay scalper prices.

Good job Sakurai on finally nabbing a Series X. Xbox has done a great job with the console. He's going to have a blast with Forza and Halo infinite, both truly masterclass games of their genre.

It's refreshing seeing Xbox finally gaining momentum in Japan again. The "Xbox One era" has been an embarrassment to the brand with that idiot Don Mattrick at the helm. Getting rid of that clown and putting Phil Spencer at the reigns was well overdue. Perhaps the best decision they've made.

PlayStation are putting their games on PC as well now, so that applies to both consoles. And Gamepass for Xbox console is not the same as on PC. Some games are exclusive to each platform, so do the research and look into which version is best for you.

Also, having a console for either has it's advantages if you play any multiplayer games. Hackers are a real problem on the platform and don't get me started on scalpers for graphics cards and components. Saying this as a PC gamer with a 3090 rig, an Xbox Series X, and a Nintendo Switch. Play on whatever platform you want, particularly whatever platform is the most accessible, and preferably the least infested by scalpers at the time.

I got gamepass for 1$ to play the new Age of Empires on my PC.. It's great. Too bad i got access to Forza 5 but my pc can't run it. Also Xbox Cloud not available everywhere yet

I really want to know what Sakurai’s going to be up to next. I’d hope for something new but you know Nintendo are going to want a new Smash game for their next platform which we’re surely inching towards. Hopefully they have a team port Ultimate over and Sakurai oversees some bonus content while he works on something different; I really don’t think we need a proper new Smash game for a long time. We’ve gone this long without a new Mario Kart and who even knows if we’ll get 9 on Switch so it wouldn’t be unprecedented to not get a brand new game in a core franchise for a generation.

Microsoft has done a way better job advertising their Xbox platform being more PC friendly than Sony has, and they kind of been pretty hushed about adding their games onto places like steam, so people often aren't aware of the PlayStation games making their way to PC just like Xbox has. I found this out myself when I discovered that Horizon Zero Dawn (and soon GOW) are making their way to Steam. Good times for all here.

I mean, also on Twitter, former Terranigma staff have started a petition to bring Terranigma to current consoles (with more Quintet games - Robotrek, along with it.) Signed it in a heartbeat.

It feels almost like a reverse. Sony seems to be taking western audiences into priority whereas Microsoft is leaning towards Japanese audiences.

You could say it is, considering the Japanese audiences generally prefer Nintendo or Sony over Microsoft. Sakurai purchasing an Xbox Series X means more people there would try it out.

There's been a lot of damage to the Xbox brand during the One/Kinect era, and it's nice seeing someone like Phil who actually cares about games and repairing the damage that was done... Not selling you TV and gimmicks instead of games like that slimeball Mattrick has done before him.

@farrgazer there are quite alot of exclusives in game pass but most are from xbox one and 360 era. Id imagine most have gone to Windows bar the odd few. Not kept in the loop with anything xbox for the past 6 years. The series S was an impulse buy after seeing the game pass list. Its pretty bloody extensive.

XBOX Series X cannot even play DDR Ultramix games, Barbie games, Spongebob games, Carmen San Diego from OG XBOX.

Can the Switch or PS5 play those games from the previous generations natively or any game at all for that matter? Backwards compatibility is a big feature that is missing from those two consoles. If the Switch was backwards compatible with previous generations, I would at least have a reason to take it out of its box more often.

@Anti-Matter Yeah and PS5 can't play any PS3, PS2 or PS game nor can Switch play any non-Switch game. Series X/S plays tons of 360 and Xbox games... for free, if you have them.

Personally, I'll wait a few years before getting a Series X. At least he can play Rare Replay, if he didn't have it before. I recommend Conker's Bad Fur Day, it's excellent, so much that famous 3D Model Maker JC Thornton made models of Conker, Berri, and other characters from the game.

@hadrian technically Sakurai doesn't have to work on the Switch if he doesn't want to, after all he is a freelancer. Nintendo asked him to do Smash but Sora ltd is nothing to do with Nintendo.

But Series X/S still unable to play DDR Ultramix games from OG XBOX, DDR UNIVERSE games and Kinect games from XBOX 360 by disc emulating like Wii U to play Wii disc games.
And none of OG XBOX and XBOX 360 games by backward compatible update I like to play. Too many adult games, no DDR games, no Kinect games, no Barbie games, no Spongebob games, very horrible BC games list to play. Just look at the BC list for OG XBOX and XBOX 360, I don't even like any of them.

Maybe the joke went over your head. See, the joke is that people who complain about certain articles, still take the time out of their day to click and comment. Some of them do this a lot. A few seem to comment on every article just to complain. The irony is that not only are they wasting their own time to accuse the staff of that very same offense, they're actually ensuring that the kind of content they don't like only continues to get posted, because every click generates revenue for the website, which is kinda how they stay in business. And boy do these Sakurai Twitter articles get a lot of clicks!

@kobashi100 I paid £60. I've already played so many games that technically, if we take retail price into consideration, that what I'm now playing is free. Forza retails at £59.99. Psychonauts 2 around the same.
