@Kingy I don't know about sexist, but in terms of what Nintendo showcased they can do with their side characters? Super Princess Peach got the short end of the stick.
@Carlore_Preventis Actually, I don't think how you acted is cool at all. You really went too far with nothing to warrant it.
I'm just curious as to why? I could understand if the person responded to you in such a way that warranted it, but you just went from 0-100 out of nowhere.
@-wc- I hope that's a bit of sarcasm on your end. Just because something was different back then, doesn't equal it's aged well with time. It was just the limitation of then vs now.
Not all nostalgic things are good things. You can like certain aspects while admitting others aren't as good as we once remembered.
Some of my favorite games have parts that are still great, and parts that have been modernized by even better games. Tomb raider has enough games in it's library that you aren't forced to play the old games. You can like any version of Tomb Raider and be a fan.
@russell-marlow Did Rocksteady even know Kevin was ill? I find it hard to put blame on them when the actor himself never publicly disclosed his illness to begin with.
You may not have liked Batman how when out, but how can you put the blame on the devs who didn't even know the man was sick, and suddenly died.
By the time of his death, the game was in the late stages of development.
Im sorry, but when actors don't disclose they are ill, and pass, it's not the fault of people behind the scenes nor should they be burden with any guilt.
Conroy read the script, and knew before signing on, what would happen to his character, and how it would be portrayed.
@Solomon_Rambling Hey, nothing wrong with feeling down about getting fired. However, she is correct that as an actor your disposable.
It's a career choice that millions pursue, and millions crash without leaving the start. It's choice to choose such an unstable career with no promises or guarantees. I can't say I feel too bad for her. She got to voice an iconic character for nearly 8 years. And manged to land back her feet.
Sucks what happened to her, but acting isn't a promise of forever. Gotta be strong in a field where dreams vanish as soon as they are born.
@Baker1000 Why? Nintendo, Sony, Xbox, and other companies are doing ports and remasters. Why is it's embarrassing Sega is as well?
No one said, claimed, or pretended Generations is perfect. Even diehard Sonic fans can admit it's shortcomings. However the game got decent reviews and it was meant to be a celebration of Sega's mascot. So, yeah Sonic Generations is a mix of levels from past games by design.
Lastly, Sonic Superstars features all original new levels. And Sonic Dream Team released for Apple, is an entirely new game with original levels as well.
@HeadPirate You keep defending it without pointing out the actual cons and problems with it. "There are no negatives only positives" is pretty much your defense.
You haven't directly answered any concerns related to the bad sides of it, as pointed out by your detractors. You just keep dancing around all the cons.
@aaronsullivan I know im in the minority here, but just good enough is not a standard that I want to become the norm for videogame adaptions.
I'm personally not looking forward to the Zelda film, even more so after reading the films the writer is behind. If just barely passable is the standard, then videogames movies will have a very long way until they actually reach great.
Into the Spider-verse is great example, and that movie only made 385 million at the box office. While it couldn't compete box office wise with Pixar's Incredible's 2, it beat the film quality wise by setting a new standard for what animation can do. Every award it won, it deserved.
Inspiring such films are Puss in Boots, And Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
If comic book adaptions can achieve such feats, I see no reason why videogames movies can't do the same.
@JohnnyMind It's not though. Atleast not to me. I guess extreme has different meanings for everyone.
Someone saying the film is terrible and calling for the beheading of everyone involved? Extreme
Someone being a **hat? Eh, i don't think so.
I will concede and say the person who removed all Mario references of Mario over a movie is being dramatic though. But then again, I've known people to say things for dramatic flair. I still think this is a pretty tame comment section so far. Atleast the Mario guy is generous and responding back, explaining why they disliked the film. Even if it is over the top.
Again, just different perspectives. I don't see it as bad.
@JohnnyMind I read this entire comment section, even before the removed comments. Nothing about them were extreme. Not to be mean, but you using that word out of context in this case.
Maybe it's this new generation's way of seeing things, but growing up we call what's going on here, a passionate heated argument. Until it devolves into people mud slinging, nothing about it is extreme.
Yes, there are cases with extreme views that can be applied, but none are to be found here.
I grew up with friends, and made friends with people where we have heated discussions all the time. We're all still cool at the end of the day. From the things I discuss on the daily, this is the most tame comment section in the world.
If you wanna know about the remove comments, it's just one user made a snarky remark, and another user who started off with a with a snappy comeback, devolved into just tossing shade at everyone. Other than that it's sane here.
For what it's worth, a comment section is a poor place to have any discussion about anything. The problem with an open forum is it invites everyone to give input, so you just have to accept bad actors.
Edit: It also doesn't help, that social sites have like NL have implemented a like system either. You can't have a discussion when a user thinks having more thumbs up than you is a sign they are correct somehow. This is why I prefer joints where no such systems are in place. It forces you actually talk, rather than just say whatevers currently going to get you the most likes possible.
@demacho Im going with the idea it was planned from the get go.
1. Nintendo is well known for taking down anything
2. Youtube is like the 1# platform when it comes to video content
3. Nintendo stalks that platform like a vulture
To be that naive would be incredible, but not impossible. I'm going to say he knew it was going to come down , but atleast got it advertised long enough for sites like NL to post it front and center.
Besides this isn't the first nor last time hackers basically jumped in the lions den. Many of them enjoy the thrill of challenge and baiting companies. It's like a rush.
@FatBeverly Maybe to you, but they mean alot to the people who watch it and to the winners having their work recognized.
An old collegue of mine won an award for his short film highlighting a serious health issue. He spent 7 years working on it as the cause meant alot to him, and that award gave more people an opportunity see his film.
Lame huh? Anyways jokes on no one but the GOTY awards for treating a show that should highlight gaming medium as something to be appreciated giving how it began and where it is now.
A GOTY award show isn't lame or bad. It's just the current one we have that sucks. Maybe day we will get a show isn't run by Geoff, and treats the devs with respect.
@sForzan You are purposely making it sound worse than it is. So let's compare the two:
The MTX if you will, is DLC. That DLC being fully playable characters with movesets, voices, animations that took time to add. All sold for only 5.99 a pack.
Now let's jump to Fortnite: It costs 7.99 for V-bucks which is not enough for alot of the skins in game. Meaning you need to double that just to get the skin you want. It would cost someone almost 20k just to own every skin in the game compared to Smash bros which is not even a fraction of that price tag.
Not to mention, the skins literally do nothing. It's all cosmetic. You are spending real world dollars on a virtual costume that does nothing unique.
You think somehow a overpriced MTX shop with cosmetics that do nothing is somehow on the same level as game with DLC that actually add characters who do something? Surely you jest.
@larryisaman Actually they aren't. VGA are, but others not really. I once asked the question of what was the point, and people within in the industry themselves gave me a proper breakdown on the significance of awards and their place in our culture.
They have meaning, maybe not to certain people, but they have meaning because society gave them meaning. Not only that, certain awards can open doors for some folks. For marginalized groups, awards can give them a wider audience to see their recognition in places where they've been shunned for years.
It's not so black and white to day ultimately awards are meaningless.
That's not to say it's a perfect system. It has plenty of flaws that need correction, but it's not 100% meaningless.
@Maxz As demand for graphics get more and more realistic, I think Japanese devs are struggling to adapt while stay true to their unique styles.
When playing a game like FF7 Remake, you can see they are trying to blend both worlds. Personally, Im not with the making everything as real as possible crowd, as I think it comes with heavy costs that robs a game of any style to help it stand out.
To give an example here, I don't play JRPG's in general. But many of them have such a distinctive style, that I can visually remember them more than some of the realistic open world games I played of recent.
@Samalik There's a difference between a kid dressing as their peers or just being naked due to the need of taking off clothes once in awhile vs advertising a kid as a sexual kink and fetish.
People in general aren't creeped out about nudity. People are creeped out when said nudity is applied to a child out of sexual exploitation.
Think what you wish, but I find nothing appealing about scantly clad fictional kids all sexed up for grown ups. You know good and well Japanese media has a weird fetish for making children as sexual looking as possible.
@Arawn93 The game isn't incomplete. The Switch version is the same version that was released in 2004. The DLC is simply fan volunteered content that was created by fans.
