Unlike many here, I could care less about the key cards and don't mind them. I purchase more digital games these days. PC is all digital and Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are going towards that too. Physical games will become more rare. What worries me more, is the lack of announcements for more games from 3rd parties. Nintendo should be killing it in year 1 with 1st and 3rd party games.
As a Switch owner, I am seeing Nintendo fans blindly defending Nintendo here. Where are the Microsoft ports like on PS5? They promised Call of Duty. Where are the rumored Assassin Creed games and RDR 2? Seems very underwhelming for a partner showcase
Wish list:
NHL
Mass Effect Trilogy
Read Dead Redemption 2
GTA 4 and 5
Fallout 3 and New Vegas Remake
Viewtiful Joe Collection
Psychonauts 1 and 2.
more Microsoft games
All Resident Evil games
That's it for ports and remakes. More new and original announcements
I know that this game is broken, but cooking and gardening are the most boring things to do in real life and in video games. I would prefer another Shadow of Mordor for LOTR.
The full physical cards cost a lot of money. I don't blame the game companies for doing game key cards. Otherwise they would be selling the physical copies for zero or next to no profit.
When they release key cards, they are not targeting the people here on this site. They are targeting parents to get their Johnny something for birthday, Christmas, etc. Something that can be displayed in a brick and mortar stores and which can be wrapped as a present. Harder to do that with digital. These are not meant for older gamers or physical media lovers. If it wasn't for Johnny's parents, we would be digital only right now.
A lot of older gamers here like me refusing to go digital and most of them are vocal on this website. PC games are all digital as are movies and music. Yes, there are the old records and blue rays but those are now considered niche. Sony and Microsoft are starting to make moves towards digital and Nintendo is just following the trend. Can't stop it. The bigger question is: would you be willing to pay $10 or $20 more for physical edition over a digital version that would be cheaper? Because to sustain profit that would be the only option (for now) in my mind to continue with physical media.
@Ralek85 I like your idea to charge more for physical than digital. But I feel like gamers would still complain about having to pay more for a physical copy.
Omg, Switch owners act like they can't delete their games from the memory cards once they are done with a game. You guys know that you can re-download the game if you want to replay the game, right? And the excuse about the store being closed years down the road? Well, I will be too busy playing Switch 5 to care.
@Truegamer79 I am happy that you are enjoying this game on Wii-U. But you must realize that many of the Switch 1 or 2 gamers might not own a Wii-U? I never bought it at the time and don't intend to buy it now just to play a better version of this Zelda Wind Waker game. So, I get to play the more inferior version instead.
@Solid_Python I agree with you. Most on this site seem more concerned about the physical cartridge than enjoying the actual games. Key cards are just a way to have presence in brick and mortar stores. I can see Microsoft and Sony doing their versions of key discs, as evidenced by the recent Doom game.
This past weekend, I donated a bunch of my DVDs and bluerays as I never watched them due in part to having streaming services. I no longer have music CDs. I feel that video games are going to the same place and I have already given in. Life is too short to try boycott games for being on key cards or being digital. I still buy whatever happens to be cheaper but these days tend to favor digital over physical.
@Wisps I always owned a PS console and occasionally an Xbox. I was a huge fan of PSP and Vita because those were more tailored towards the older audience. When Sony abandoned the handheld, I replaced my handheld playing with Switch (and will get Switch 2 in the future). I have my PS5 to play games on the TV, but I also love handhelds. Games like this Yakuza are a dream for me, because I can continue to play these games on the go while dabbling in Mario and Zelda. And no, I am not interested in PC (aka Steam deck). I can play these on my PS5 on the big screen but now get to bring them on the go (without being tied to streaming games).
@PikminMarioKirby technically it is the first year for Madden on Nintendo in over a decade. Next year we we can argue that argument about Madden games looking the same each year.
@SillyG swapping microSD cards? I have several AAA games at any given time on my card. Once I finish a game, I delete it and if I get an inkling to replay, I just make room on my card and re-download again. No need for multiple cards. And if Nintendo shuts down the store decades from now, I will be too busy playing Switch 8 to care.
I think physical games are going to become a thing of the past. Game key cartridges allow store presence for parents to buy games for their kids. And you can resell them. If you can afford a Switch 2, you can afford a higher memory card. I don't see a big deal. Digital is the future whether we like or not.
I am thinking people complaining about key carts, probably owned an Atari console or Commodore 64 back in the day. I am from that generation but I embrace the digital future and have no issue with buying these.
No big deal to me. I will purchase whatever is cheapest, but these days prefer digital. Used to prefer physical, but find digital more convenient these days
It was interesting to see more Sony games come to switch. But overall, it was poor. I thought maybe there’d be another port or remake of Nintendo’s first party games
It is safe to presume that everyone here will get one. It really depends what their year 1 game lineup is going to look like. For me, it comes down to the games. If it has a killer line up, I will want it sooner than later.

And this is exactly why physical Switch 2 games would be sold at a loss and why key cartridges are more preferable by 3rd parties
