If the game is available on a game key card, people complain and claim to boycott that game. But when a game is available only digitally (not physical or game key card), several break ranks and purchase the game as evidenced by Silksong. I think that the game key card is more for brick and mortar store presence than anything else. More of an advertisement. Yeah, some games like PT might be taken off the digital store, but that is a small percentage. And I will be too busy playing Switch 5 or PS8 to notice.
@LastFootnote It does have to do with the other. Just pointing out how the physical game only people are never truly going to boycott something whether it is digital or key card if they really want to experience something (like Silksong).
Hollow Knight was good, but you would think it was the best thing since sliced bread. I will play Silksong when it comes out, but not in a rush like some here.
@KociolekDoSyta LOL. I kind of laughed when I read your arguement about no internet. I am sure that are some small scenarios of no internet, but it is not as hard to get these days. You can even access the internet on your Switch through your cell phone. Do you watch Netfilx or other streaming services at grandma's? Maybe it is a sign that grandma wants you to spend more time with her and not on your devices.
Stop pretending that you guys (gals) are collecting physical games for the future generations (like one of the letters talks about). If you have kids, they probably will be more interested in future generations console systems not the current ones. They might not even like video games. I have 2 grown kids. They both like the games that I am not interested in. And they play much less than I do. Your hoarder plan for future generations might just be yours and not theirs.
I have a PS5 for the big screen gaming but I love playing in handheld mode. I have Portal in addition to Switch but it ties me down to having to have a connection for streaming. Switch 2 would be perfect to bring those PS5 (or Xbox) games on the go. And before someone says Steam Deck, not interested in that.
@Razzy Unfortunately, the music performers/bands usually want tons of money for their songs to be used in games. Might be more greed from them than from the game maker (Rockstar).
Key card is not an issue for me. I will either get it digitally or on key card. People settling on an inferior Switch 1 version just because it is a key card just blows my mind.
This was great. In line with what I expected for an Indie Showcase. Partner Direct was a disappointment because I expected more AAA games from that one (more games like Cyberpunk 2077 to show off Switch 2 capabilities). So this is a good turnaround.
I love how people will allegedly refuse to buy games. Guess what, people like me will continue to buy and play digital and key card games. You guys can sit on the sidelines and watch people like me continue to play and enjoy games. See how long this self ban lasts.
I participated in it and indicated that I have preference for digital over physical and that I don't mind key cards. But that sales impact my puurchase decisions the most
@BrokenCiv Some of us don't like to play on PC. I have a PC, but all my video gaming has been on consoles and various handhelds for over 3 decades now. I played on PS4, but I would love to play Shadow games on the go on Switch 2.
The EA ones should be remastered in one collection, but knowing EA (not to mention licensing issues), this will never happen. It would be awesome to see Shadow of Mordor on Switch 2.
Unlike many here, I could care less about the key cards and don't mind them. I purchase more digital games these days. PC is all digital and Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are going towards that too. Physical games will become more rare. What worries me more, is the lack of announcements for more games from 3rd parties. Nintendo should be killing it in year 1 with 1st and 3rd party games.
As a Switch owner, I am seeing Nintendo fans blindly defending Nintendo here. Where are the Microsoft ports like on PS5? They promised Call of Duty. Where are the rumored Assassin Creed games and RDR 2? Seems very underwhelming for a partner showcase
Wish list:
NHL
Mass Effect Trilogy
Read Dead Redemption 2
GTA 4 and 5
Fallout 3 and New Vegas Remake
Viewtiful Joe Collection
Psychonauts 1 and 2.
more Microsoft games
All Resident Evil games
That's it for ports and remakes. More new and original announcements
I know that this game is broken, but cooking and gardening are the most boring things to do in real life and in video games. I would prefer another Shadow of Mordor for LOTR.
The full physical cards cost a lot of money. I don't blame the game companies for doing game key cards. Otherwise they would be selling the physical copies for zero or next to no profit.
When they release key cards, they are not targeting the people here on this site. They are targeting parents to get their Johnny something for birthday, Christmas, etc. Something that can be displayed in a brick and mortar stores and which can be wrapped as a present. Harder to do that with digital. These are not meant for older gamers or physical media lovers. If it wasn't for Johnny's parents, we would be digital only right now.
A lot of older gamers here like me refusing to go digital and most of them are vocal on this website. PC games are all digital as are movies and music. Yes, there are the old records and blue rays but those are now considered niche. Sony and Microsoft are starting to make moves towards digital and Nintendo is just following the trend. Can't stop it. The bigger question is: would you be willing to pay $10 or $20 more for physical edition over a digital version that would be cheaper? Because to sustain profit that would be the only option (for now) in my mind to continue with physical media.
@Ralek85 I like your idea to charge more for physical than digital. But I feel like gamers would still complain about having to pay more for a physical copy.
Omg, Switch owners act like they can't delete their games from the memory cards once they are done with a game. You guys know that you can re-download the game if you want to replay the game, right? And the excuse about the store being closed years down the road? Well, I will be too busy playing Switch 5 to care.
