Toy Soldiers HD, an upcoming remaster of the Xbox Live Arcade game, just can't seem to catch a break. After being announced in May 2021 for an August 2021 release, the game was delayed until October of the same year owing to leaderboard issues.
The developers said at the time that they were "absolutely positive" that they would release all versions on October 21st, 2021, which was true for all versions except the Switch. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch release was pushed back, and it wasn't until July 2022 that the developers felt confident enough to pin down an exact release date: August 5th, 2022.
"We share your frustration. We pushed ourselves to achieve a simultaneous release. We believed we could do it."
- Accelerate Games, following the Switch delay announcement in October 2021
Now, the August 5th release date has been scrapped once more, as Accelerate Games have announced that the Switch release will be further delayed — although the game passed "extensive quality assurance testing", there were communication issues in multiplayer mode that have led to the team deciding to withhold the game for a little while longer.
"We all want you to be able to enjoy the full Toy Soldiers HD experience. Whether in single or multiplayer, we want you to experience the game’s hybrid FPS tower defense gameplay."
- Accelerate Games in a statement on the 27th July, 2022
No new release date has been given, but we send our best wishes to the team at Accelerate Games.

It's just simulating real life war: you wait ages for it to be over and it just goes on and on and on.
UUHHHGGGG..... I WANT THIS NOW!!!!!!
@Fizza Good one.
Was anyone actually asking for this game for Switch though?
@Serpenterror the game's never been properly portable before (this side of laptops and micro PCs, at least, but I don't think I need to reiterate that domain's fine print), so the Switch port value is kinda obvious.
@Serpenterror I was asking for this game!! But then I remembered that the game I was actually thinking of was Army Men for the PS1, where you play as the plastic green soldier toys. So no... no I wasn't asking for this after all, but am still asking for that other one.
Strange how this war game can come out, with delays being technical, but Goldeneye and the other war game I can’t recall the name are delayed.
I feel like if going to delay games on the grounds on a real conflict then ALL games that show war should be delayed.
Is someone’s job going “Yeah, it shows war, but it does it in a fun way, so that’s ok. This game, it’s fun, but uses the colour red, so that’s a no”
Either make the stand or don’t.
Forgot about this game's existence tbh. That's alright I'm actually enjoying The Binding of Issac or rather the Binding of Eevee as someone made a playable Eevee mod and I love it.
@Desrever Ha! I actually came in here thinking it was the isometric Army Men for PC (which was also awesome) and was disappointed when it wasn’t.
Anybody here played this game? Is it fun and, if so, in what way? Never played it but I used to like Advance Wars and (before that) Cannon Fodder for Amiga.
@Knightrider1 Nintendo's Advance War reboot?
Played this on the Xbox 360. It was fun. Probably about time to give the game another shot. I never did try any of the DLC.
@MitchaK That’s the game I was trying to remember. Thank you.
My point is, when you start really thinking about why is this game allowed and that isn’t things get a little morally debatable.
I.E. Some might some Advanced Wars is more realistic than Toy Soldiers, but then someone might argue why is there a game around war so kid friendly as to desensitize and make light of war.
So, that’s why if games based on war are banned due to real life conflict I think you have to ban them all as you can find a justification when you think hard enough
@Clankylad
Thanks for sorting it out! Not a day one for me for that price, definitely.
@Knightrider1
I would say Toy Soldiers is ever so slightly more mature than Advance Wars in that enemy infantry has obvious death animations. In AW human units just fly off the screen when shot with no unique "dying."
It really is interesting looking into how these HD ports are made and even getting delayed, I'm still holding out for a later 2022 release however!
