Nintendo's E3 Direct this year kicked off with the reveal of Tekken's Kazuya for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
As part of this announcement, it's a Smash Bros. tradition to add the latest fighter to the game's famous (and stunning) mural, and he slots in nicely between Daisy and Byleth.
More about Kazuya in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be revealed by Masahiro Sakurai later this month on 28th June.
What do you think of the latest DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate? Is this a fighter you've been waiting for? Leave a comment down below.

Never fails to amaze me how they find the room!
Now when are we going to get a Tekken game on the Switch?
@Clyde_Radcliffe I assume the same day we get Persona 5 on Switch.
This mural is the Sistine Chapel of videogames.
Lol the part with kirby made me laugh, dont know why, but kirby was like, you know i can eat you alive dont you?
Ah yes, Kazuya and his little band of Miis.
@limitbreakfull don’t forget Tekken Advance or Tekken 3D. But any of the core games wouldn’t go amiss.
Tekken is great, I love the games, its just, we don't have any on the switch. ):
@HotGoomba technically, persona 5 is on the switch console not just the one we asked for.
I know it's looking doubtful, but man, I hope we get a Fighter's Pass 3. None of the DLC characters have really been anyone I've been hoping for. Still holding out hopes for the likes of Crash, Spyro, Rayman, and Waluigi.
Jeez...no one asked for him! How about some god dam diversity Nintendo! Ugh
@Travisemo007 I actually did.
@Clyde_Radcliffe Well, we have Pokken Tournament which kind of is a Tekken game
I can’t believe Nintendo would end the fighters pass on a down note. You would imagine it would be something shocking but recognisable to everyone.
Where is my Tingle?!
@Travisemo007 lol, crying about diversity. Most divers roster ever. Maybe u should join resetera.
@MrGawain Kazuya is recognizable to everyone. He had to be a favorite to someone at Nintendo for him to made it to the game.
Good character but not a character I would like in Smash for obvious reason it’s like they love to add characters no one ask instead of what people would love to see in the game just to annoy the fan base
To this day, I still don't understand why the mural is no longer featured at the end of each Fighter reveal.
@MrGawain The fighter pass isn't over.
@Northwind Tekken is one of the biggest fighters out there, easily up there with SF and MK. Majority of Switch owners who aren't kids or casual folk no doubt have owned or do own a PS console. The current Tekken game is pretty popular. Smash is a fighter and Tekken is a fighter.
I get your point but i feel its part of the minority of those what still play Smash regularly.
@Reaktor
Considering most games are almost entirely white and male 'most diverse ever' isn't really an achievement.
I guess diversity is an issue that's easier to notice when it's your group that's getting little to no recognition.
@MrGawain just because YOU don't recognize him doesn't mean plenty of us don't. Tekken is a super famous series from way on the original Playstation as well as an arcade game. I'm 33 years old and I Def knew who Kazuya was from having played games since before the PS1 Era and having been at arcades. You all will be like "who even knows this character!?" any time a character older then Steve comes out as if there weren't a brilliant age of arcades and other instances when genres beyond battle royales dominated
@GKO900 People want meme characters like Goku, Shrek, and Waluigi. Steve and Banjo are enough for that. I’m not a big Tekken person personally but I appreciate the pedigree.
Always nice to see the mural updated!
@Spiders from where is your profile pic if i may ask. It seems familiar
@acNewUpdates One, there is legacy issue for the medium. There’s not a lot of “diverse”. characters to choose from. I think Twintelle was the better pick over Min-Min, but that’s from a Western POV.
I also have an issue (and I mean a confusion not a “beef) with the idea of representation in that I don’t feel represented by any of these characters by how they match my appearance. The characters that resonate with me in Smash are Samus, DDD, and Falco because of how they feel to play and allow me to express myself in the game. I feel that way about every game.
I understand the idea that “if your not the one being represented...”., but I honestly think it’s a mistake to assume that white people feel represented by these characters. I think it’s asking for a feeling that they are not getting. That’s not to say people don’t deserve it and it’s not a generally better idea to have more kinds of characters (which I think is happening slowly but steadily), but l think better to leave the so-called represented out of the issue. It’s don’t believe it’s symmetrical.
@BrintaPap I got it off a random fan art page - it’s an Inkling dressed like R. Mika from Street Fighter.
@acNewUpdates @acNewUpdates
I’m a gay black man, maybe people should stop thinking about “groups” we are all humans. When I was young we learned that everyone is the same, now-a-days everyone wants to be different and be locked in a “group”. People are crazy.
If they don’t sell this in some capacity after the last fighter is revealed, it’ll be such a missed opportunity.
@Travisemo007 How dare they put in a character from one of the most celebrated fighting game franchises in their fighting game franchise who is also from the developer co-developing said fighting game franchise with Nintendo
Really, there were so many better, wholly original picks like Waluigi or Geno
XD..seems I was wrong. Still would've prefered someone less generic and more unique, funnily enough, Goku WOULDVE been a better pick BY THE GODS of smash. Ppl know him too, and Lord would he be a fun character to play as.
@TheFrenchiestFry agreed. So many better picks! XD honestly Tekken is the least flashiest fighting game I've played and tho I had fun playing it on Wii u, other fighting games were more appealing to me as flashier movesets are more candy for my eyes.
@Travisemo007 Goku will never come to Smash.
Smash is a celebration of videogames. Not pop culture characters.
@link3710
@Kirby_Girl
@Ghost_of_Hasashi
Sorry, I didn’t make myself clear. I know who Kazuya is, and have played lots of Tekken. I was referring to the final reveal after. I was just remarking that the final one has to be a very popular character like Banjo and Kazooie.
I was hoping for Kazuya or King, really glad we got at least one Tekken rep! Yoshimitsu would have also been interesting given his unusual playing style, and as a double feature for Soul Calibur as well, but Kazuya looks fantastic!
I really hope they bring some Tekken games to switch....
@acNewUpdates
Technically the ones in Smash who are said to be white are are shulk, pyra/mythra, the Belmonts, terry, snake, little Mac, and Bayonetta. Possibly Samus, and Lucas.
everyone else is never disclosed or if going by the country they were made, (for the majority of them) asian... They just have anime eyes.
@WallyWest I'm in my 30's and have had multiple Sony consoles. Never bothered to get any Tekken games. They aren't my jam.
I think Smash has had enough support. Time for Nintendo to move on to something else and use the resources on another game.
Personally, the lack of a grey alien character with purple eyes in this video game deeply disturbs me and other open-minded grey aliens with purple eyes like myself who can only appreciate titles that feature characters who look exactly like I look in real life despite it being a video game that features characters which require the suspension of disbelief, such as bipedal bears who carry talking birds in their backpack and talking blue hedgehogs capable of going fast, or little round pink balls with eyes who pull microphones out of thin air and sing people to sleep. Perhaps one needs to be a grey alien with purple eyes to understand why the lack of grey aliens in this random video game is a terrible, brazen injustice. No, Mewtwo doesn't count, and neither does Ridley, per me. Representation matters! Be reasonable, Nintendo!
@Ttim3r You forgot Ness is American and possibly white and the Mario Bros along with Wario are Italian so they are white too. Also Hyrule is based on Europe, granted the Gerudo are supposed to take Middle Eastern influence.
@malcire and? I'm 28 and have owned multiple Sony consoles and Tekken 2 and Tekken 3 were my childhood fighting game of choice. Fact is Tekken is one of the biggest fighting series out there and Smash Ultimate is the biggest fighting game ever if we go by sales, it makes sense to add a character from another popular fighting game to another.
@acNewUpdates Typical thought process of the "west", Nintendo is Japanese and like most of Japan they aren't really concerned about real world representation like the West is, in fact Nintendo are more about representing other games series what are popular and have history in gaming. Looking at Smash's roster most of it is from Japanese games with the majority being Nintendo's own franchises like Mario, Zelda, Pokemon and Fire Emblem. I agree representation is important for black people (i'm going to assume your black but please correct if i'm wrong) and others but expecting Smash to do it is stupid because its more about celebrating gaming as a whole now and all the popular series and characters. Smash has the most diverse gaming line up in fighting game history, we have multiple Pokemon, Mario, Sonic, Solid Snake, Bayonetta, Cloud, Ryu, Terry, Steve from Minecraft, Zelda, Samus, Banjo and so on, name another fighting game what can top Smash's roster.
@Travisemo007 Guess I'm no one then. This seems diverse enough to me. We were all complaining about the preponderance of sword users, and we get another bare-knuckle martial artist.
@MrGawain If you're going by popularity, Tekken is easily up there with Banjo-Kazooie, if not moreso. Not long ago, Tekken 7, the latest game in the series and the one whose version of Kazuya heavily inspired his Smash Ultimate moveset, had a celebration that honored 7 million sales since its 2015 debut.
I hope his stage has more variety than Tekken 7's stages. How about the airport from Tekken Tag!
I really want a Mortal Kombat representative next. These fighting game characters make more sense to me than someone like Snake. It's great seeing them all come together.
@Spiders Actually Goku does make sense since it has some games in Nintendo history and it’s a historic character the rest a do agree that they are memes but most people expected waluigi, crash, Rayman or bomberman, yet we get characters that don’t have anything to do with Nintendo that don’t really fit with the franchise
All this back-and-forth in the comments and I'm just here, happy over the fact that they put the Devil Gene carrier next to the Ashen Demon.
@MrGawain There was already - Sephiroth.
@GKO900 Except a character has to come from video games, Goku wasn't born from a VG so yeah he's never coming to Smash. Fact is every Tekken character has more claim to appear then Goku ever will due to being born as VG characters, also they fit in fine with Smash considering its a crossover between fighting games, makes way more sense then Crash or Spyro who aren't fighting game franchises.
@Travisemo007 I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic.
Only one more to add before I buy this sucker and put it on my wall.
Happy that he’s a villain! Smash needed another bad guy. So that’s cool.
@MrGawain
"the final one has to be a very popular character like Banjo and Kazooie"
I like B&K but they're not "popular" outside the Nintendo bubble. Their last commercial successes were more than 20 years ago, not at all comparable to the likes of Minecraft, Final Fantasy, Tekken and other juggernauts represented in DLC.
@Northwind You make a decent point - Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat are on Switch and both frequently show up on Nintendo systems. Tekken is more PlayStation, hence why Heihachi showed up on PlayStation All-Stars.
HOWEVER, Kazuya isn't "balanced combo-centric middleweight shoto archetype". That goes to Paul Phoenix, who even has a gi and a quarter circle move. Kazuya is a Mishima not a shoto, which is a completely different archetype.
@GKO900 But alot of people asked for it actually.
@GKO900 Has to come from a video game, and even if he had some video games, How many of those games made actual video game history?
@acNewUpdates It is a JP game, and last time I checked, asian people are white, so it makes sense that alot of the characters would be.
Kazuya is ok but Forest Law... cough cough Bruce Lee cough cough would have been a much better choice 🐉 👊
I've had a PS3, 4, 5, PSP and Vita. I'm aware of the Tekken franchise (it's huge!) But the only one I've ever played was on WiiU. I don't remember this guy he didn't stand out to me at all, untill it was shown he could turn into a demon I was disappointed. Now I'm mildly curious.
I'm not sure why people are suddenly saying things like "he's from another fighting game it makes more sense than (insert character)"? Does it? Since when has Smash been about fighting game crossovers? It's always been about taking characters from Nintendo, and then later gaming, history and adding them to this Fighting/Party/Brawler title. Half the fun of Smash was seeing how they could take elements from a game and work them into a move set. If we just took fighting game characters we'd have Ryu, Ken, MinMin and now this guy.
I've been wanting more Nintendo characters as I still feel that there are glaring omissions and it's what the series was about when it began.
But I'm more excited about Kazuya than I expected.
Not bad. I'd still rather have Doom guy, Master chief, or Twintelle though.
@Kriven
Bomberman is a big one for me.
Just seems he would work so well.
The inclusion of Bayonetta just looks stranger year on year.
@Kriven
Would fit better in Smash as well I think.
@Kriven I disagree, big names help solidify Smash's status as the celebration of gaming history. Besides, remember that the first third-party character in Smash was Snake, when there's only one MGS game on Nintendo.
Fun fact: of all the Smash third-parties, the one with the most Nintendo legacy is Hero. Dragon Quest has been on Nintendo since 1986, almost single-handedly made the Famicom and Super Famicom a massive success, and you can play the entire series on 3DS. Bet ya didn't know that huh?
@Dman10
This is why i stopped buying nintendo. The constant repetitiveness! How many zeldas are we going to get? Samus? Mariokart? Marioparty? Smashbros? Kirby? Donkey kong? Im 30 now but with 5 older siblings i’ve got to play nes when i was 5yrs old! These games are 20+yrs old!
I have literally witnessed these games being full games at purchase to buying dlc after you bought the game get the full thing.
I remember on smash you did not have to pay for characters! Now they got us idiots paying for them… Im done with nintendo personally they play consistent games with us and we still supporting them because of nostalgia.
Some one please tell me a new nintendo game that rivals god of war? Halo? Gears of war? Spiderman? Final fantasy? Forza horizon4? Sea of theives? Horizon dawn zero?
None…
For those of you who enjoy nintendo im glad and real happy for you!
I guess i’ve out grown nintendo. Heck even my sons 10,5,3,2, 7month old don’t touch the switches.
@Kriven I already said i dont care for nintendo and stated why. Im not grasping at straws. I literally threw up facts. Nintendo is not exciting anymore. Maybe one day they’ll bring out a dope game with good story progress with each new installment.
Hahahahaha id throw my 15yr of martial arts all up on your face hahaha!
And there wont be no restart button for you like nintendo games haha.
@WallyWest I mean it's Smash, being well known is hardly a requirement to be included (since they added Fire Emblem characters at a time when no FE games were released outside of Japan).
@WallyWest I would have went with the Kangaroo or Panda though.
@Kriven hahahahaha thats what i thought. Keep hitting that abxy and your fav zl and zr. Hahaha how that nintend nut? Hahaha
@Kriven mhm haha! Got your card pulled.
@Ogbert What about Terry Board?
@Lanmanna Oh yeah and Terry! So 5 of 80 odd characters.
